Chris Christie Will Not Receive “A Personality-ectomy” Before Keynote Address

Governor Christie was interviewed yesterday by Peter Haskell on WCBS 880 radio, looking ahead to his keynote address at the Republican National Convention. Christie mentioned that he is currently on his seventh draft:

“I think it’s about the record we’ve established here and I think Gov. Romney is an admirer of that record and I think that’s why he asked me,” Christie told Haskell.

The famously brash governor said he has no plans to tone it down for the national audience.

“I don’t think they have any expectation nor have they requested that I have a personality-ectomy between now and next Tuesday,” Christie told Haskell. “They know what they’re buying,” Christie added.

The governor said he worked on his speech while he was on vacation last week.

The keynote speech is the highest-profile spot for someone not accepting the party’s presidential or vice presidential nomination. The slot has launched many political figures including President Barack Obama, who was the keynote speaker at the Democratic National Convention in 2004. Four years later, he won the White House.

Need a little warm-up to Governor Christie’s keynote address in six days? Try this little video montage of Christie’s greatest hits. My favorite quote from these short clips came while Christie was speaking to a teacher who was complaining about tough decisions the governor had to make to cut funding of a library:

“Unlike The United States, New Jersey cannot print money!”

RNC Delivers Valentine E-Cards, Mitt Romney Delivers Keynote at International Franchise Assoc in Las Vegas

A rather smallish winged fella has been recruited to help the Republican National Committee (RNC) raise a bit of extra cashola. Yes, Cupid is working the internet today and has loaded his quiver with e-card valentines. Not quite the usual messages of affection, they contain bits of humorous barbs toward Obama’s policies. The RNC is feeling the love and cashing in; they’ve sent over 47,000 valentines so far.

The site offers 18 different grin-worthy cards:

President Obama

Harry Reid (Refers to his statement on March 5, 2010: “Today is a big day in America. Only 36,000 people lost their jobs today, which is really good.”)

Nancy Pelosi (Refers to her March 9, 2022 statement on health care “…we have to pass the bill so you can find out what is in it.”)

Cupid has survived all these years because he’s a capitalist…

Meanwhile, Governor Romney is in Las Vegas today to deliver the keynote address at the 51st annual convention of the International Franchise Association. 2,500 members will assemble in the MGM Grand with their theme of “Building the Future Together” very much on their minds. They couldn’t have asked a more qualified guy to inform and inspire them! Read more here (corrected link).

May all of you enjoy a day of goodness and a sweet treat, or two.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

CPAC 2011 Starts Today! Here is What You Need to Know…

Allen West CPAC 2011 Keynote Speaker

CPAC 2011 Keynote Speaker: Florida Rep. Allen West

The annual Conservative Political Action Conference is upon us! Thousands of conservatives are converging on the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC to listen to speakers and discussion panels featuring the most prominent conservative leaders of our nation. The 3-day conference also features a highly anticipated straw poll for GOP 2012 contenders (guess who we are rooting for.)

Let’s do this in Q&A format… (please note all times are Eastern)

Q: JUST TELL US… WHEN IS MITT ROMNEY GOING TO SPEAK?
A: Okay, okay. Romney is set to speak Friday morning at 10:30.

Q: Will I be able to watch somehow if I’m not there in person?
A: I believe live video will be available for the whole conference. Go to http://video.cpac.org/ and register. There are videos of speakers from last year available right now. Update: Live video is also available here: http://www.politico.com/livestream/
Q: Who will be the Keynote Speaker this year?
A: Florida Rep. Allen West was confirmed just yesterday to give the closing Keynote speech on Saturday. Glenn Beck was the Keynote speaker last year, and Rush Limbaugh the year before that. Sarah Palin was actually invited to give the speech, but turned it down last week citing a very busy February schedule.

Q: When does the straw poll voting close?
A: Friday 5:00 PM

Q: When are the results of the straw poll announced?
A: Saturday 5:15 PM

Q: Who will be on the ballot for the straw poll?
A: 1. Michele Bachmann, 2. Haley Barbour, 3. Herman Cain, 4. Chris Christie, 5. Mitch Daniels, 6. Newt Gingrich, 7. Mike Huckabee, 8. Jon Huntsman, 9. Gary Johnson, 10. Sarah Palin, 11. Ron Paul, 12. Tim Pawlenty, 13. Mitt Romney, 14. Rick Santorum, 15. John Thune, 16. Other, 17. Undecided

Q: Will Mitt Romney win the straw poll?
A: Doubtful. Ron Paul won last year and is favored to repeat this year as well. The Campaign for Liberty has made no secret of its intention to flood the poll for Ron Paul, just as they were successful at doing last year. Mitt Romney did win the poll in the years 2007 - 2009. My guess is he’ll take a strong second.

Q: Do you know the results of past years?
A: As a matter of fact I do..
2010: Paul 31, Romney 22, Palin 7, Pawlenty 6, Pence 5, six others
2009: Romney 20, Jindal 14, Paul 13, Palin 13, Gingrich 10, Huckabee 7, four others
2008: Romney* 35, McCain* 34, Huckabee 12, Paul 12
2007: Romney 21, Giuliani 17, Brownback 15, Gingrich 14, McCain 12
2006: George Allen 22, McCain 20, Giuliani 12, Rice 10, Frist 6, Tancredo 5, Romney 5, Gingrich 5, Santorum 3, Pataki 3

** It should be noted that Romney announced the suspension of his campaign during his 2008 speech. Prior to his speech 25% of the votes were already in, with Romney leading McCain 44-27. The remaining votes placed after Romney’s speech were in McCain’s favor 37-32.

Q: Do you have video of Romney’s speeches in past years?
A: Yes, we have 2010, 2009, 2008, and 2007. All include video and transcript.

Q: Will any Team MRC members be there?
A: Yes, there will in fact be 5 of us there on site, and we will be joined by Jeff of NYforMitt as well. Nancy French of Evangelical for Mitt will also be in attendance. Aaron, Ross and David, are already there. Luke and I will be arriving on Friday.

Q: How will you guys be covering the on-goings at the conference?
A: Excellent question. We have been afforded a seat in the blogger’s lounge (yes, we’re legit) where we will do write-up for posting on our blog here. We will also be live-tweeting the entire conference from our mega-smart phones - providing news, insights, photos and video as quick as our stubby thumbs will permit. There is live widget at the top of our home page where you can follow all of our tweets. Another option is to follow the list directly on Twitter.com. Or, for the more impatient (and more adventurous) you can try this pre-configured tweetgrid: http://bit.ly/CPACTwits. The grid follows @RomneyCentral, @AaronGundy, @NateGundy, @C0mm1tt3d (Ross), @DavePulfoo, @LukeGundy, @NYforMitt,and @E4Mitt. Other suggested search terms: ‘#cpac11’, ‘Romney’, and ‘MittRomney’.

Q: Will there be any official meet up for Mitt fans and/or MRC readers?
A: I’m not sure. I’d like to call together a gathering to meet everyone and perhaps enjoy some refreshments, but do not have a time/location yet. We will advise if we pick a time and place to meet up. I would hope to do so Friday since that is when Romney is speaking and most supporters would be there.

Q: Do have a schedule of who is speaking and when?

Donate at the link below, or buy something in our Mitt Romney 2012 store. All of our items in the store are already paid for now so any purchase would go directly to helping us out a CPAC. Romney Wows GOP Delegates in Vancouver, WA

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney takes aim at President Barack Obama while giving the keynote speech at the 2010 Washington State Republican Party Convention at the Hilton Vancouver Washington on Saturday.

Mitt Romney delivering keynote speech at convention. He says its time to “pin the blame on the donkeys.” With regards to Obama’s apology tour, Romney stated, “No, Mr. President, America has not dictated, America has freed other countries from dictators.” Very patriotic stump speech that energized the audience.

More details of the entire event can be read here.

Kathie Durbin from the Columbian wrote a piece about Mitt’s keynote speech. We’ll post video of the event if it becomes available.

I’ve seen some tweets verifying that the speech and the crowd’s reaction to it were both electric. I’d love to see some comments from anyone that was there or knows someone that was.

Mitt Romney to Keynote 2010 Restaurant Leadership Conference

Gov. Mitt Romney

We’ve heard news of Romney keynoting a range of events, from Skiing Industry conventions & Specialty Pharmacy summits to Boy Scout Anniversary dinners; now comes the news that he will also keynote a convention that is ‘catered’ specifically to Owners and Managers of restaurants.

Regarding the conference, I saw one tweeter say, “Seriously? …Mitt Romney?”, perhaps questioning Mitt Romney’s relevance to the restaurant industry. Its evident, however, that Mitt is a respected voice in any industry, with a solid track record of turning around many failed businesses (including Domino’s, the popular pizza giant). Look for keynote spots from Mitt at many more of these types of conferences in the upcoming months.

We’ve read Romney’s resume a million times, but it doesn’t hurt to re-post what they’ve written about Mitt at RestaurantLeadership.com:

Widely recognized for his leadership and accomplishments as a public servant and in private enterprise, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney delivers powerful insight on the current and future challenges facing America and the world, and offers compelling solutions on how America can regain its course.

His is a career marked by success. From 1978 to 1984, Governor Romney enjoyed a successful tenure as Vice President at Bain & Company, a leading management consulting firm, helping businesses grow and improve their operations. In 1984, Romney founded and led Bain Capital, now one of the nation’s most successful venture capital and investment firms. He later took a temporary leave of absence to return to Bain & Company as CEO at a time of financial turmoil to lead the turnaround of the organization.

During the run-up to the 2002 Olympic Games, Romney left the private sector to become President and CEO of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee. Given the task of turning around an Olympics mired in controversy and saddled with debt , Romney galvanized community spirit, erased a $379 million operating deficit, organized 23,000 volunteers, and oversaw an unprecedented security mobilization just months after the September 11th attacks, leading to one of the most successful Olympics in the country’s history.

Romney’s career in public service has been equally distinguished. Elected Governor of Massachusetts in 2002, he presided over a dramatic reversal of state fortunes and sustained economic growth, balancing the state budget without raising taxes, creating tens of thousands of new jobs, and enacting education reform to both reward students and aid failing schools. In 2006, Governor Romney proposed and signed into law private, market-based healthcare reform, ensuring that every Massachusetts citizen receives health insurance—without a government takeover and without raising taxes.

Elected Chairman of the Republican Governors Association during the 2006 election cycle, Romney raised a then-record $27 million for candidates running in state house contests across the country.

Governor Romney has been deeply involved in community and civic affairs, serving in his church and numerous charities including City Year, the Boy Scouts, and the Points of Light Foundation. He was also the Massachusetts Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in 1994 against Ted Kennedy. He received his B.A., with Highest Honors, from Brigham Young University in 1971. In 1975, he was awarded an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was named a Baker Scholar, and a J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School.

Governor Romney and his wife Ann have been married for 40 years and have five sons, five daughters-in-law, and fourteen grandchildren.

Registration info for the event can be found here.

Romney to Keynote at Armada Specialty Pharmacy Summit

After the announcement of Romney’s headline speech at the annual ski industry trade show comes the press release that Romney will also keynote at a pharmacy summit next May.

Across this broad spectrum of industries, what other politician could have more influence then a man who has brought immense success to the private sector, the 2002 Winter Games, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts? Because of his impressive background, Mitt has become recognized as an industry professional in almost every industry out there. There’s no doubt that the organizers of these conventions/summits know of Mitt’s ability to bring success to anything he puts his name on.

In the upcoming months, look for more appearances by Romney at these sort of events:
