Clint Eastwood Endorses Mitt: “More Important Than Ever That We Need Gov. Romney”

Movie actor Clint Eastwood has endorsed GOP presidential candidate Governor Mitt Romney. August 3, 2021

Mitt Romney has received the official nod… from Clint Eastwood.

The icon of macho movie stars attended a Romney fundraiser tonight in Sun Valley, Idaho, where he told the Associated Press he was endorsing the GOP presidential candidate.

“I think the country needs a boost somewhere.”

Politico’s Ginger Gibson reports:

Romney appeared pleased by the endorsement from Eastwood, whose Chrysler ad during the Super Bowl earlier this year was widely seen as a tacit nod to President Obama, even though he never said anything specifically about the campaign.

From Gibson’s report, a transcription of Eastwood’s ode to his film Mystic River and how it brought him to Romney:

Romney: “There is a guy here from the world of acting, who has pursed his dreams in a very unsuual way, he stood up to the industry and did things his own way.”

The crowd applauded and some pointed to Eastwood.

Romney: “Can I get Clint Eastwood to come up here and say hi to everybody?”

Eastwood walked up and said something inaudible and Romney laughed.

Eastwood: “This is very nice to be here today, tonight, today. Let’s clear the smoke.

“I was doing a picture in early 2000s called Mystic River in his home state. At that time Gov. Romney was running for governor. I said, God this guy is too handsome to be governor but he does look like he could be president. As the years have gone by I’m beginning to think even more so that.”

“He’s going to restore a decent tax system that we need badly so that there is a fairness and people are not pitted against one another of whose paying taxes and who isn’t.”

“Also we don’t want anybody taking away the Olympic medals, tax wise, from the Olympic athletes. The government is talking about getting a couple of nickles.”

It’s now more important than ever that we need Gov. Romney and I’m going to be voting for him as I know most of you will be … we’ve got to just spread the word and get the whole country behind this…”

Note Eastwood’s aversion for Obama’s class warfare…

The Gov then took back the microphone:

He just made my day. What a guy.”

Romney Fundraiser Hosted by Idaho Gov Butch Otter, Senator Jim Risch, George Argyros, Other Notables

Mountain bikers take advantage of the dirt roads in Ketchum, Idaho. Mitt Romney will attend a fundraiser with Governor Butch Otter and supporters in the scenic Gem State town today. Aug 19, 2021

Governor Romney continues his hard work through the intermountain west today. As busy as he is, he’s got to love the rugged surroundings he finds himself in. He’ll be meeting Governor Butch Otter and other notables for lunch today in scenic Ketchum, Idaho:

Republican presidential front-runner Mitt Romney will make his second fund-raising trip to Idaho in two months — a $2,500 photo op and a $500 lunch at the Ketchum vacation home of a California investor.

Bob Beyer, a former Wall Street investment banker, is hosting the event with his wife, Catherine, on Old Mill Road in Ketchum.

In the second quarter of 2011, Romney raised 80 percent of all the presidential contributions made by Idahoans, about $215,000. His June trip featured a breakfast in Boise and lunch in Idaho Falls.

The Aug. 19 event is likely to include more givers with legal addresses in other states, who flock to their Wood River Valley vacation homes in August, often bringing friends.

Among today’s hosts:

George Argyros, former ambassador to Spain and former owner of the Seattle Mariners; Spencer Eccles, former First Security Corp. CEO; Carol and Earl Holding, who own Sinclair Oil and the Sun Valley Co.; former Navy Secretary John Lehman; Rock Schnabel, co-founder of Trident Capital and former ambassador to Finland; and former Los Angeles Mayor Dick Riordan.

GOP Gov. Butch Otter and Sen. Jim Risch, R-Idaho, are also supporting the event.

The Gov will travel to northern Utah later today.

Romney Out West: CO & ID Today, Tops CA Poll, Names NV Campaign Co-Chairs

Governor Romney is continuing western work

After spending time in *Nevada last week, he’s in Colorado today. Then, he’ll be heading to California for a few days and will be in Utah on June 24th.

Here’s a look at early good news for Romney from The Golden State..

Mitt Romney fares well in California Field Poll

Mitt Romney is getting some good news as he arrives to spend three days fundraising in California this week: He holds a solid lead over his 2012 GOP presidential rivals among the state’s Republican voters, a new Field Poll shows.

Romney is preferred by 25 percent of registered GOP voters, giving the former Massachusetts governor a double-digit lead over each of his challengers.[…]

Mitt Romney - 25 %
Rudy Giuliani - 17 %
Sarah Palin - 10%
Ron Paul - 7%
Newt Gingrich - 6%
Herman Cain - 6%
Rick Perry - 5%
Michele Bachmann - 4%
Tim Pawlenty - 3%
Rick Santorum - 2%
Jon Huntsman - 1%

Romney’s closest competition comes from two candidates who haven’t even joined the race to deny Democratic President Obama a second term: former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (17 percent), and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (10 percent). If Giuliani is taken out of the field, Romney’s lead widens - to 30 percent and a more than 2-to-1 lead over Palin at 12 percent in second position, the poll shows.

The poll was taken June 3-13 among 950 registered voters, including 322 registered Republicans. The margin of error is 3.3 percentage points on the general sample, and 5.7 percentage points on the GOP sample.

*Nevada News (6/17/11)…

Mitt Romney returns to Las Vegas for fundraiser

Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney is staying close to Nevada’s GOP leaders.

The former Massachusetts governor returned Friday to Las Vegas to collect more campaign donations during a $2,500-per-person fundraiser at a Lawry’s restaurant.

He also named Congressman Joe Heck and Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki as his Nevada campaign co-chairs.

Krolicki told reporters at the fundraiser that Romney is best positioned among the Republican presidential hopefuls to fix the economy.
He is the only major GOP presidential contender focusing on Nevada so far. He has made several visits to the Silver State in recent months.

UPDATE - Romney is also touring The Gem State today:

Associated Press

Romney attended a private campaign fundraiser breakfast in downtown Boise Monday morning before heading off to another event in Idaho Falls.

Romney is no stranger to Idaho. In the last presidential election cycle, Romney made several stops to the Gem State to raise money and support in his bid for the GOP nomination.

The Spokesman-Review reports that Romney also announced his statewide steering committee. The list includes Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter, U.S. Sen. Jim Risch, U.S. Rep. Mike Simpson and Secretary of State Ben Ysursa, among other top Idaho Republicans.

Mitt Romney Coming to Denver Area on Monday - I’ll be there!

There is good news for fans of Mitt Romney in the Denver area! The Governor will be making his first visit to Colorado since announcing his candidacy on June 2nd.

After two events in Idaho, Mitt will be heading over to Brewery Bar IV, a local Mexican restaurant in Aurora, on Monday afternoon. This event is just down the road from my house so I will definitely be there! Any supporters are invited to come to this free public event — and I look forward to meeting some of you there:

  • Be there at 4:30 P.M.
  • The Brewery Bar IV is at 6482 S. Parker Rd, Aurora, CO 80016. Click here for a map.
  • I currently don’t have much more information than that, but anyone is welcome to contact me with questions at

  • The meet and greet in Aurora is only one of four events for Governor Romney on Monday. Immediately after leaving Brewery Bar IV, Mitt will be attending a fundraiser at the home of a prominent supporter (unfortunately no, it’s not me) in Cherry Hills Village. It’s not surprising that he would visit Colorado early on in the primary season. The Denver Post wrote:

Romney proved popular in the West in the 2008 presidential primaries. He carried five Western states, including Colorado, where he beat eventual nominee John McCain 59 percent to 19 percent in Colorado’s GOP presidential caucuses while raising millions of dollars in the region.

Romney made five visits to the state during the 2008 run.

    Bronco Stadium, Boise ID

As I mentioned earlier, Mitt will begin his busy day in Idaho. First, the GOP front-runner will be attending a breakfast fundraiser at Bronco Stadium in Boise. The stadium is the home of the Boise State University football team and their infamous blue “smurf turf” field. Next on Governor Romney’s itinerary is a luncheon at the Snow Eagle Brewery in Idaho Falls. Mitt has already received the endorsements of two Idaho politicians for 2012: U.S. Senator Jim Risch and Congressman Mike Simpson.

These fundraising events, and others like it throughout his June cross-country tour, will add to Mitt’s already impressive 2nd quarter financial totals. The final numbers for this fiscal quarter will be available in July.

After Campaigning in Arizona, Mitt Romney Heads to Utah for PAC Fundraiser

Nestled at the base of the Wasatch Mtns, night falls upon Salt Lake City, Utah.

After campaigning for GOP candidates in Arizona today, Governor Romney will then continue his western wayfaring with a swing north to Utah to raise money for his Free and Strong America PAC. His activities include a roundtable discussion with PAC supporters and a fundraising reception later this evening.

    Deseret News:

SALT LAKE CITY — Mitt Romney will be in Utah Tuesday to raise money for his political action committee at a private event whose hosts include Gov. Gary Herbert.

Herbert, however, won’t see any of the cash collected at the up to $2,500 a person evening reception being held at the Grand America Hotel for Romney’s Free and Strong America PAC, which helps elect GOP candidates nationwide.

Although Romney already endorsed Herbert earlier this year, the governor’s campaign announced Monday evening Romney “”will make a statement offering his full support” for Herbert in this year’s special gubernatorial election
In Utah, it costs $500 a person to attend Wednesday’s reception or $2,500 to also participate in a VIP reception that includes a photo with Romney.

With all the lend-a-hand campaign donations Romney is giving to conservatives across the country, let’s help his worthy work by adding to his PAC’s coffers.

Hope Gov Romney gets a good night’s rest because he’s headed further north to Idaho tomorrow morning!
