The Harry Reid Style of Politics — Born of Las Vegas — That’s the Way We Roll

Senator Harry Mislead Reid

Harry Reid crossed the line this week! I have followed American politics closely since about 1968 and I can think of few people that have stooped as low as Reid in the execution of their job in the Senate. Forget the fact that any bill promoted to the Senate from the House dies in the Senate at his hands. Or the fact he completely disobeys the law to not submit an annual budget. Now this! (See Luke’s post just below.)

The opening segment of the Hannity Show last night is classic. His guest was Ann Coulter and she tells it like it is. Good for Governor Romney for calling Reid out. In my opinion, Governor Romney should not let up until he is able to flush Harry Reid out from the rock under which he loves to hide. Governor Romney comes right out and states Reid’s source is probably the White House — good for him for calling him out! It is completely appropriate that he used the word “dishonest” to describe Harry Reid’s assertion.

In this video clip, Ann Coulter describes seven people that Mr. Obama maligned in his political career in his no holds barred, take no prisoners approach to politics. His ambition for power knows no bounds. Truth has not been an important requirement for Mr. Obama.

What we are seeing this week from Reid is the kind of politics in which he feels most comfortable: “Wrong…Untrue…Dishonest…Inaccurate” as stated by Governor Romney (I think we need to do an investigative report on David Axelrod; what do you think?):

Lest you have forgotten, take a look at this excerpt from Harry Reid’s current Wikipedia web page:

Reid apologized on January 9, 2010, for racially tinged comments he had made when Obama was campaigning for president. In private conversations, Reid had remarked that Obama could win the Presidency because the country was ready to embrace a black presidential candidate, especially one such as Obama—to whom he referred as being “light-skinned” and “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one”. These comments had been recently revealed by journalists Mark Halperin and John Heilemann in Game Change, their book about the 2008 election.

If you have not listened to liberal talk shows lately, their drumbeat now is that conservatives are trying to run Obama out of office because of racism. Please!

Is there any rhetoric beneath Harry Reid? Obviously there is not.

Let’s use a little logic here for a moment. Remember that Gov. Romney ran for president in 2007-08 and would have publicly released his tax returns as the GOP nominee had he beat McCain, correct? The probability that his 2006 and 2007 tax returns contain anything even remotely dishonest, illegal, or unpaid is so remote it is laughable! What would be discovered if we could see multiple years of tax returns? That Governor and Mrs. Romney paid a higher percentage of their income to charities than all the Democrats in the Senate combined? Also, let’s go with reputation. I would line Governor Romney up against the likes of Harry Reid any day of the week (and a year of Sundays) as to reputation. Harry Reid has never had a real job and he has been a politician in Las Vegas since 1968. 44 years in Vegas! Since 1968! Need I say more? If you had to take a wild guess, which of the two reputations is most trustworthy overall do you think? Think of what would fall out of Mr. Reid’s closet if he were ever attempt to run for POTUS! Seriously!

Obama is stooping to the lowest levels to use the likes of Harry Reid to do his bidding! What more is there to say? It was totally appropriate that Governor Romney used the words ‘wrong,’ ‘untrue,’ ‘dishonest,’ and ‘inaccurate’ to describe Mr. Reid’s false accusations. By the way, we have not seen the lowest levels of where the Democrats will take this election cycle. They are desperate and they are scared. Power is their goal and they see it slipping away.

It is all about distraction. Never forget the Democrat strategy. Consider the sources: Harry Reid of Las Vegas politics and Barack Obama of Chicago politics.

Next, we may see Obama take military action somewhere in the world just to stay in the saddle. I would never put it past this man.

Romney Unplugged and Revealed (a comparative to Obama)

The choice between these two gentlemen is clear, as they are distinctly different candidates, in experience, in ideology, in capacity and integrity, and in seasoning. Although I have observed Barack Obama from afar and in the media (his advocates), I have known Governor Romney and seen him from a much closer vantage point. I know those that know him even more so, and without exception, he is as genuine, real and true to what matters to each of us. He is a valiant friend to those who know him and a caring and committed advocate for what is right. Some say he is a little quirky and/or corny, but he is who he is and stands uniquely qualified in his belief system and the principles that he espouses, to lead us as few have or can. In my experience there are certain key factors that define a great and successful leader and correspondingly, a great President. Below is what I see in Mitt Romney and, contrasted with Barack Obama, why he will be one of our finest Presidents.

Some key contrasts while applying the three constants noted in my previous post –

“Flattery and cunning words are the tools most often used to gain power, advantage, influence and control.”
“What you do speaks so loud; I cannot hear what you say.”
“By their fruits ye shall know them.”

Decision Making – Barack Obama is hesitant and indecisive, whereas Mitt Romney is decisive. It has been said that the cost of a mistake is far less than the cost borne of indecision. We have seen this evidenced during Barack Obama’s term, and America has borne the greater cost. A key to Mitt Romney’s success is his ability to assimilate information, determine a course forward and act thereon with confidence. Mitt Romney gathers information before making a decision as few can. He seems to have the innate ability to gather the just right information without gathering too much, and being able to make the right decision with appropriate foundation. While serving as Governor, a few on his staff had drawn a unanimous conclusion on a state project. When he heard their decision he queried if they were all agreed without dissension, to which they responded yes. He then charged them to bring in the strongest proponent against their position whereupon they addressed the issue and the decision was made. Mitt Romney is not myopic and pre-disposed to ignore critical or even contrary information. What he is disposed to do is make principled decisions based upon metrics and conservative values. He has done so throughout his life, both personally and professionally. Mitt Romney’s successes in business, government and philanthropy are grounded in his principled decision-making, and the disciplines employed therein have set him apart among his peers.

Wicked Smart – I can recall an instance a few years ago after returning from a business trip to China; I was talking with a friend about the trip and sharing an experience with a state-owned-enterprise that dominated the market in renewable energy turning waste into power. Mitt Romney had overheard the conversation, turned around and began to drill down on the details of the renewable energy venture. He was becoming very granular, wanting to know all of the metrics of the transaction. Such is his nature and capacity. Mitt Romney thrives on data, metrics and market dynamics as few can. His command of markets and business dynamics is like none that I have ever encountered, and I have encountered some of the top business minds around the world. I cannot see the same dynamic in Barack Obama.

Economic Experience – Barack Obama has no consequential experience in the economy and markets, whereas Mitt Romney has spent the majority of his career in the economy. Mitt Romney has garnered great wisdom and capacity as a result of his well of experience in business and economic markets. Such is what has enabled his successes in business. He questions everything and is a sponge when it comes to absorbing information; his retention is unparalleled.

Seasoned Executive/Leadership Experience – Barack Obama has had three years of first-time executive experience while on the job, whereas Mitt Romney has successfully led sizable private, public and philanthropic organizations for decades. Mitt Romney is comfortable, confident and without guile. He surrounds himself with the brightest and the best without concern for his own position or ego, and then leads by example. When the Olympic Games were mired in scandal and excess, Mitt Romney stepped in and set the standard without guile. As sponsorships and donations were waning and critically needed, he was first to make a sizable personal donation; when excesses were evident with lavish meals, he called meetings and brought in pizza; when traffic was stalled, he got out of his car and help direct traffic; when the weight of the crisis was overburdening, he clearly delineated a core path to success. To quote Mitt Romney, “the key to a successful turnaround is focus, focus, and focus.” If there was ever a time for critical focus by someone who has been there and done what is needed, it is now.

Business Successes – Given current economic climates, practical business experience would be an asset. Barack Obama has no business successes, whereas Mitt Romney has innumerable business successes. Mitt understands what it means to sign the front and back of a payroll check. Comparing Barack Obama’s public equity investments and failures to Mitt Romney’s private equity investments and successes offers interesting insights.

An interesting note not considered by many – Mitt Romney’s self-made business successes have created personal wealth estimated at $350 million. What isn’t discussed are the billions of dollars of wealth created for so many others. What Mitt Romney garnered in wealth from his business success is nominal compared to what he has created for so many others, including pension fund and retirement accounts for many Americans, charities, employers, employees, individual investors and shareholders and businesses. If one understands the multiplier effect of wealth creation, this means that in his career, Mitt Romney has had a profound and extended impact in the lives of many Americans – far beyond the 100,000 jobs created in and as a result of his work.

Juxtapose that with Barack Obama’s career and how many lives have been positively impacted by his service and dedicated effort.

Qualified – When the facts are considered, to Jack Welch, former Chairman of GE, stated “In my lifetime, Mitt Romney is the most qualified leader I’ve ever seen run for the Presidency of the United States.” Further, see the opinion/editorial by Karen Hughes, former Advisor to President George W. Bush – here.

Personal Character – Mitt Romney’s life reflects selfless service wherein he, without compensation, has served others in charitable service for eighteen years, and led the Olympics and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In fact, during his lifetime, he has served others without personal consideration or gain for approximately 25 years, while at the same time blessed the lives of so many through his business success. His family is a testament of his character, integrity and commitment to American values and principles. Those who have served with him and been associated with him – stand with him today in his aspiration to restore our nation. Barack Obama has spent his life in pursuit of his ideologies, leaving no lasting legacy that has blessed the lives of others. It has been a life of self and ideological pursuit. Those who stand with him are bound in his agenda and want to dismantle what has made America great. In fact, it is challenging the system to identify any legacy of Barack Obama besides his own self.

Ideology –
~Barack Obama has a clear agenda to neuter America’s role in the world, whereas Mitt Romney believes in America’s exceptionalism and leadership in the world.
~Barack Obama seeks to create greater dependency on the US Government by all Americans, thus impinging on our freedom, whereas Mitt Romney defers to, and seeks to restore personal freedom and responsibility.
~Barack Obama seeks to enlarge government, whereas Mitt Romney seeks to shrink and diminish the size of government.
~Barack Obama seeks to shrink the military strength in America, whereas Mitt Romney seeks to increase a strong US military, believing in the principle: peace through strength.
~Barack Obama embraces debt, borrowing and franchising the future of our children with reprehensible government spending, whereas Mitt Romney seeks to cut and cap spending and balance the budget.
~Barack Obama seeks a government solution for US healthcare, whereas Mitt Romney advocates a private solution.
~Barack Obama is not an advocate for traditional marriage and seeks to repeal DOMA, whereas Mitt Romney stands for traditional marriage, including support of DOMA. Marriage is a sacred trust of fidelity between one man and one woman.
~Barack Obama supports abortion, whereas Mitt Romney supports and advocates for life.
~Barack Obama is an advocate for liberal and socialistic type agendas, whereas Mitt Romney advocates conservative social and economic values and center-right positions.
~Barack Obama advocates a weak foreign policy with deference to global governance enterprises like the United Nations, whereas Mitt Romney stands for independence and leadership in the cause of freedom around the world, and will not subordinate or answer to other international agencies or bodies.
~Barack Obama is singularly focused on green energy initiatives, whereas Mitt Romney is an advocate for measure and pragmatism in the energy markets.
~Barack Obama advocates government/sovereign rule, whereas Mitt Romney advocates Constitutional rule.

My personal experience with Governor Romney confirms a deep-seated love for our America and the values and principles that have made it the greatest nation on the earth. He has lived the American dream, having not benefitted from an inheritance, he succeeded the old-fashioned way; he earned it (by very hard work). And yet, he was not without when it came to caring for his family, in time, resource and devotion. Irrespective of the demands on his time in business, to paraphrase Ann, when he was home, he was home. This is further evidenced by his singular devotion and love for Ann. As she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and breast cancer, he stood myopically focused on her care, attending to her every need. Mitt Romney’s capacity to apply his life’s experience to leading and restoring our nation is like none other in recent history – it is a proven track record that is tangible to each and every one of us. What he has done for his family, for his un-purchased service to others, for his business interests, for the Olympic Games, for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, we want him to do for America.

America is facing a choice in November and given the current commotion and challenges before us, we must choose the individual who has a proven history of performance. In his career, Governor Romney has taken on significant challenges, while as Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the leader of the Olympic Games or as a businessman; in each case, he has subordinated his personal interest with an objective to make a profound difference for those whom he has a responsibility and duty. He has been successful in every occasion.

Mitt Romney has been prepared and fortified throughout his career of business and service. His life’s experience has brought him to this pivotal time in our Nation’s history, a time when America requires someone of Governor Romney’s caliber, capacity, and experience to lead with integrity.

Our Nation is on the edge of a precipice and in the midst of this critical inflection point, we will either rise above our challenges, or we will fall. Throughout history we have always risen above our midnight moments. Whether at the founding of our Nation, the fracture resulting in a Civil War, the Great Depression, WWII, the Cold War and subsequent fall of the ‘evil empire’, we have been led by great men prepared through life’s experience for the greater good of our Nation. America is on the edge and the challenges we face are significant, and of equal gravity to events past.

In 2008, we elected a man we didn’t fully know or understand – he was never fully vetted on the national stage. He had very little depth and experience to prepare him for the challenges of the office of POTUS. The demands of the Presidency cannot sustain on-the-job training. Even so, we elected a man that excited the masses, unknown but inspiring nonetheless. Barack Obama was eloquent and drew upon the hopes of the people – he said what they wanted to hear. We have since learned that Barack Obama has always sought for power and position where he could change the course of, and diminish America, and its role in the world. Knowing what we now know, would the Nation have elected Barack Obama – NO! Barack wasn’t the answer then, and he isn’t the answer now. He is incapable of leading our Nation because he doesn’t want what Americans want and stand for. And, at this critical juncture in our history, we need a leader who believes in America, who reflects all that America stands for, an individual who is steeped in experience and capacity to lead and restore that which has been tarnished or lost.

Mitt Romney has spent his life, not in pursuit of becoming POTUS, but in living the American Dream. He has been more successful than many could imagine, in all aspects of his life. His life’s experiences have prepared him for this time, to lead our Nation in crisis. Now is the time to elect an individual who can inspire us once again to the greater good, to the duty and role that America has been divinely entreated. Mitt Romney stands uniquely qualified to lead our Nation at a time when leadership has been absent.

An interesting comparative of experience and capacity elucidates the contrast below.

Leland Bruce is an expatriate currently residing in the nation of Chile (see facts he quotes below contrary to Herman Cain’s assertions of his “999″ plan). I admit it. I am frustrated. However, unlike many of the self-proclaimed conservatives that make up the GOP base, I am not frustrated with the “weak field of Republican candidates” as FOX News would have me believe or the lack of “stance on issues” that the GOP base continues to air on left leaning media outlets or the constant mantra “I don’t know what he believes in” that talking head street conservatives encountered by CNN will spout out at a moment’s notice.

Leland Bruce

No, I am not frustrated with the horrible media coverage that constantly berates, injures, typifies, castigates, and bemoans the field of Republican candidates (including and most importantly FOX News) because after all, it’s expected. In summation, it’s not all of those frustrations that bother and annoy me, get under my skin, drive me crazy or cause me to scratch my head in disbelief.

No, what frustrates me is that the United States of America finally has a candidate who is one of the most prolific chief executive officers in the history of the world, who actually wants to run our country for love of freedom and democracy, who actually has a vision for the future of America and how to rebuild our superpower status, and the media has led the public to be more interested in selling subscriptions to Occupy Wall Street.

Really?

In my world, I believe that “markets” are great predictors of the future. “Smart” money is usually tracking winners and as you all know, the house always wins. Herein lays my confusion. (more…)

#UnravelTheSweater: Rick Santorum - #1 Recipient of Lobby Money

BEHOLDEN TO MANY - TO WHOM?

Santorum has been imitating Gingrich imitating Michael Jackson lately in his interviews and debates when confronted with his ties to lobbyists when he was in the Senate. Facts are tough!

In 2006, Mr. Santorum was the highest recipient of lobbyist funds — BY FAR! No other senator was even close. The second place senator was 28% lower. Open Secrets Fact: CLICK

Check this 45-second clip:

Rick Santorum is beholden to many people and interests. Which favors would a President Santorum have to repay? And to whom?

ABC is reporting that Donald Trump recently recorded a robo-call for Governor Romney that will be heard by tens of thousands of voters in Michigan next Tuesday. Excerpts from the ABC piece:

“This is Donald Trump and I have to tell you that I’m tired of Rick Santorum pretending that he’s some kind of DC outsider,” Trump says on the call.

Trump dismisses the former Pennsylvania senator as a “career politician” who has “never had a job in the private sector.” He accuses Santorum of working as a lobbyist before and after serving in Washington.

“Rick Santorum is completely entrenched in the Washington culture and he has been for decades,” Trump says.

(Santorum worked for a law firm that lobbied on behalf of the World Wrestling Federation in the 1980′s and worked as a consultant to several companies after he lost his re-election bid to the U.S. Senate in 2006.)
[...]
“I don’t think they believe it’s going to happen,” Trump said of the possibility that the Republican Party might nominate Santorum, “but boy, would they like it to happen because that would be an easy election.”

On the robo-call, which will begin on Tuesday, Trump calls Romney an “outsider in the race” who “knows how to handle” China and OPEC — two of Trump’s most-frequently cited international bogeymen.

Mitt Romney: Financial & Economic Expert — Chief Executive with Decades of Experience

NOTE: To see my choice as the Romney PHOTOGRAPH OF THE DAY along with a tribute to the men and women of America’s armed forces, click through below the line and scroll to the end.

In my opinion, Chris Wallace of FOX News is one of the best journalists alive. He is tough in his questions, but most fair, I believe. He is equally tough will all those he interviews. He is by far the most prepared of any journalist I have seen on television and is always ready with an intelligent comeback to any answer provided by the person being interviewed. If Wallace has any partisan biases, I have been unable to detect them.

Remember the question that Governor Romney was asked in the last debate about the biggest misconception voters have of him? Remember he chose to answer that question with a more substantive reply, providing information voters could use? In the following video, Wallace asks him that question again and this time he answers it directly.

Governor Romney provides important answers that the voters need to hear in Michigan and Arizona. His answers are unambiguous and I believe outstanding. Wallace asks questions on the following topics:

  • Afghanistan — Obama’s announced withdrawal and recent apology
  • Gov. Romney’s winning margin in Michigan in 2008 & expected margin Tuesday
  • Who’s going to win Michigan Tuesday?
  • Gov. Romney’s recommendation to allow the auto companies to go through bankruptcy
  • Gov. Romney’s more detailed economic plan detailed
  • Two Cadillacs

Governor Romney exudes a high level of confidence in this clip. I realize I am biased, but I think any objective viewer would agree that Governor Romney is the brightest of the four candidates left in the race. Clearly, he is not merely recalling facts as Gingrich does, but is speaking as an economic and financial expert with decades of experience as a chief executive. See next page for the video, photo, and tribute. (more…)

Rick Santorum Adopts the Newtonian Strategy of Whining — BIG TIME!

Mr. Santorum has decided to join Gingrich in the whining gallery. Those who have followed MRC’s coverage of Newt Gingrich know that one word we have used often to describe his rhetoric concerning Governor Romney is “whiner.” In fact, I believe that a Newtonian classic set-up to any of his arguments is almost always the big whine.

Mr. Santorum Donning his Battle Gear

Well, now Mr. Santorum has decided to try that same Newtonian line of reasoning. Isn’t it interesting though that when Santorum is ahead in some poll, he takes all the credit for the lead, but when he drops behind, he starts whining and blaming others for the erosion? Sound familiar? Gingrich is the expert at this. He and his team have probably strategized that the Gingrich whine is the best line of attack now.

Santorum is complaining that Ron Paul seems to be ganging up with Governor Romney to defeat Santorum in upcoming states such as Michigan. From the very beginning of the horse race, we know that Governor Romney has dropped from the lead in the polls a few times as he has been relentlessly attacked using false and completely misleading tidbits of information by all the candidates simultaneously. Has Governor Romney ever complained or whined about their “collusion”?

Never.

Mitt Romney: “The Best…Most Qualified Candidate…Will be an Outstanding President” (guest post)

I LOVE THIS SHOT!

Another great photograph telling a great story!

Occasionally, we will publish opinions submitted to us by visitors that have studied Governor Romney over many years. Gary Chidester is a frequent visitor to MRC and he provided this powerful endorsement of Governor Romney. He informs us that he is a retired Iowa school teacher. This particular opinion carries some additional weight in my mind because Chidester personally spoke to all four candidates while they campaigned in Iowa.

Mr. Chidester’s Op-Ed below nails it! I wish to add that Governor Romney is far superior to any of the remaining candidates in so many ways; but as an executive leader, the other three don’t even come close. Governor Romney has worked most of his career as a chief executive of major organizations. Even if you combined the careers of Santorum, Gingrich, and Paul (~100 years), there is no comparison to the years of executive experience of Governor Romney! Think about it.

By Gary Chester

I have been a Romney Republican, since 2007. He is the BEST candidate we have had in decades! When his issues and vision for America were shown to my friends, (as from Candidate X), almost everyone agreed that ‘this’ was the candidate they would support. When I told them that Gov. Romney was the candidate, nearly everyone started to fudge about their decision.

I am, however, surprised and saddened that some of my dear Iowa Republican friends are still playing the ‘religion’ card. For such an enlightened State, I’m ashamed that this one issue is the Achilles’ heel of the general mindset. Sadly, most Americans are the same way. If Gov. Romney would have been a Methodist or a Baptist, he probably would have been the Republican nominee in 2008 and would have won the election that Fall. (more…)

#UnravelTheSweater: Rick Santorum’s Effusive Promotion of Mitt in 2008

BIG REQUEST: Please forward this post to everyone you know in Michigan and Arizona. Thank you!

PHRASES USED BY SANTORUM IN 2008 to describe Governor Romney:

  • He is speaking with clarity and conviction…with the heart and mind together!
  • There is only one place to go right now and that’s Mitt Romney!
  • He knows what it means to be commander in chief!
  • He has a depth of knowledge about [national security]
  • He was not only curious, but he had some very interesting insights!

…….. And many more ebullient utterances!

Seriously. Mr. Santorum has not been this passionate, even one time in the 2012 race! When you listen to the following interview — given by Santorum on the Laura Ingraham radio show in February 2008 — you will hear that he was so excited about Romney as President of the United States, Laura Ingraham literally had to interrupt him! And why? So she could publicly announce her own endorsement of Governor Romney, right then and there! This is classic. Every Santorum supporter needs to hear how effusive he was in this amazing testimonial of Governor Romney. This entire audio piece is a crescendo, from beginning to the very end! You get the sense that Santorum would have kept raving about Romney for another 20 minutes if allowed.

The last 100 seconds of the audio are the best:

#UnravelTheSweater: Rick Santorum - Unprepared and Unqualified

EXCLUSIVE: See testimonial of Master Mariner, Arthur Grant at the end of this article as he describes the many qualifications required to captain the largest ships of the sea. Santorum’s hope to take over the Ship of State is a stretch by any measure or imagination. In fact, in the opinion of this writer, Santorum’s dream would be humorous if it were not so scary. Please carefully read Arthur’s testimonial before you consider supporting Senator Santorum for any higher office.

Barack Obama's Ship of State

The piloting of a ship as an excellent metaphor to executive leadership experience. Obama’s pre-POTUS leadership perfectly fits the metaphor of rowing a small boat in a lake; Santorum’s to a small motor boat (more years in Congress than Obama); Governor Romney’s, by comparison, is equal to that of the Master Mariner (captain) of the large freighter, oil tanker, or aircraft carrier. The stark differences exposed by this simple metaphor are not minor — they are vast and they are critical!

Of the many weaknesses and other disqualifying attributes possessed by Santorum, none compares with his lack of executive leadership experience. Anybody can run for President. Rarely has any man ever been elected President without extensive executive leadership experience. Santorum hopes to be the exception — as was Obama — how has that experiment worked out? It is my opinion, supported by the team at this site, that Santorum’s complete lack of leadership experience alone should disqualify him outright. (more…)

#UnravelTheSweater: Fleshing Out the Truth About Rick Santorum

This following guest post was submitted by Colleen Loughmiller. An MRC regular.

The Vest

Sweats and sweater vest or designer slacks and Polo’s? Who is the real Rick?

Watching and listening to Rick can be uncomfortable. At times he tilts his head, squints his eyes, and raises his voice a full octave. Next thing I know he’s bobbing his head left and right, making me dizzy watching him in a debate or interview. His clean cut boyish face is pleasant to look at, his loyal wife and children by his side — all looking freshly scrubbed and the all-American Family. Yet, something’s bothering me.

His strongly accented words ring with all the right syllables, “I am a consistent conservative and I have always been….,” words I want to hear. He goes on to say that he is pro-life and for a balanced budget.

But I get a nagging feeling in my head that something isn’t quite right. Lately, since his popularity has soared, all kinds of information is available about Rick as he goes through the normal vetting process, information not available to the average voter before.
