Specifics Mitt Romney Rarely Discusses About His Past

The Los Angeles Times published a front page article in its Sunday edition yesterday. It is titled, “Image Gap” [The Romney we see on the campaign trail doesn’t seem to be the one revered by friends and colleagues], by Maeve Reston. I highly recommend reading the entire article by clicking the link above: “Image Gap.”

Those of us that have studied for years the life and career of Mitt Romney are well aware of the many stories that clearly define him as generous with his time; as someone who is patient and genuinely kind to others — a man of service. I have heard some people voice frustration that he does not speak of these experiences and they wish he would. Any student of “servant leadership” knows that a characteristic attribute of such leaders is humility.

Following are excerpts from the article:

Mitt Romney visits with a future voter at a fundraising event in Nantucket, Mass. (Photo: Evan Vucci, Associated Press / August 26, 201)

The article starts off by describing how Mitt Romney gave a bridge loan to save the home of an executive of Staples at a critical time.

That was the Mitt Romney known to friends and business associates: a man generous to those in need, whose charitable acts stemmed from a deeply rooted sense of duty to help his neighbors.
[…]
If the country knows little about what makes Mitt Romney tick, that is in large part because the campaign has walled off large swaths of his background, including some of the most humanizing components, to public discussion.
[…]
As a result, 10 weeks before the election Romney remains an enigma to many Americans.
[…]
Romney’s advisors have long shrugged off his likability problem, arguing that voters care most about competence and insisting that Obama’s middling job approval rating is a far more important number.
[…]
While some might see a contradiction between Romney’s private acts of generosity and his plans to shrink government programs that help the poor or college students, those close to him say there is none. It stems from his belief in individual responsibility and self-reliance, and the view that every American has a duty to help others either through their community or through their church.

“He believes government has a certain role as far as helping people, or helping provide an infrastructure in areas where you can help create opportunities,” Romney advisor Kevin Madden said. But his guiding principle is a belief in “putting our faith in individuals and free markets and free enterprise” rather than “government being the only engine.”
[…]
To date, many of the stories friends and advisors tell of Romney emphasize his tendency, as one put it, to personally “run at problems and fix them.” One often-cited episode was his decision to shut down Bain Capital and organize a multiday search party to find a partner’s teenage daughter, who had vanished after a party. After he recruited Bain’s lawyers, accountants and other business associates to walk the streets of Manhattan showing her picture, authorities found the girl in a New Jersey basement. (Notably, the story was used by Romney in advertising for an earlier campaign, before Bain became the focus of months of Democratic gibes.)

Cindy Gillespie, who worked closely with Romney when he ran the Salt Lake City Olympics and then moved to Massachusetts to work with him, recalled a less dramatic illustration of Romney’s approach. When movers left her bedroom set stranded in the driveway of her new town house after failing to maneuver it up a narrow staircase, Romney — then the governor — arrived with three of his sons and

Obama Administration Sued for His Decree: “Unconstitutional”

Last month, President Obama directed all law enforcement officers to stand down and to not enforce existing laws governing policies of illegal immigrants detained in the United States. He bypassed all established legislative procedures and processes and simply used executive order to eviscerate existing statutes requiring deportation of illegal immigrants.

Agents of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency filed suit in federal court this week against the Obama Administration charging it illegally directed ICE agents to break the law. As you will see in this short video clip, the backers of this lawsuit say there is no question President Obama, by executive order, has instituted unconstitutional policies and procedures:

President Obama, when sworn in on the Capitol steps, vowed to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States. There is a reason our founders established that changes like these, under the Constitution, are to be made in the legislative branch. President Obama clearly thinks he can make monarch-like decrees by fiat when it suits him politically or even if he wishes to change the national debate.

What other executive orders from President Obama can we expect between today and election day in November? President Obama obviously considers himself exempt from constitutional checks and balances requiring that laws be changed in the legislative branch of government.

Fundraising and Spending: Management in Microcosm

The latest news of the campaigns’ cash on hand is telling: Mitt Romney is not only very good at raising money, he’s very frugal in spending it.

Reports indicate that despite President Obama holding a record number of fundraisers while in office (nearly twice that of the next president on the list), the Romney campaign and the Republican National Committee are significantly financially better off than their Democratic counterparts. From Reuters:

Romney, the Republican National Committee and the Victory Fund they use jointly said they had $186 million left in cash on hand at the end of July. Disclosures filed on Monday showed Obama, the Democratic National Committee and their own joint funds having a total of $127 million left in cash on hand.

That money is an important gauge of firepower saved up for future advertising or investments in hiring, offices and events.

Why the discrepancy? It’s true that some funds are inaccessible to Mitt until he’s the official GOP nominee. But still, why such a difference when there wasn’t even a primary battle on the Democrat side? First, Jane Mayer in the New Yorker suggests President Obama doesn’t seem to relish fundraising, particularly from wealthy donors.

Ms. Mayer suggests an altruism on the part of Democrats holds them back from doing the same sort of fundraising the GOP does, particularly from, in a youthful Obama’s words, “the enemy” (big business / Wall Street). It’s clear the Obama camp and the left views money and those that possess it with some level of disdain. And as Mitt says, if you vilify something you may very well end up with less of it. Lest you be fooled, however, into believing Ms. Mayer’s suggestion that all the left’s motives are pure, and therefore the right’s are not, Matthew Continetti in the Free Beacon deconstructs Ms. Mayer’s thesis, calling it the “biggest myth of 2012” that Democrat donors don’t expect or receive some form of payback from their politicians. Mr. Continetti’s piece is worth a read. Perhaps it’s not progressive altruism that keeps the Obama campaign from raising funds as much as it’s that Obama’s track record is now a limiting factor.

“Obama’s America” and Dreams from His Father — 2016?

After seeing this movie, please leave a comment at this post to enlighten other readers to your opinion and critique of the film. Your comments can greatly influence others at this critical time of the election cycle.

Early this year, David Parker informed me of a film that would premiere later in the summer revealing the life of Barack Obama, a man few Americans knew or understood. His close friend Gerald R. Molen was producing the film and David informed me that his bringing the documentary to market had been at great personal sacrifice to Mr. Molen. Please take two minutes to read David Parker’s post from June about the film and watch the short trailer there.

After taking my daughter Bree to buy a laptop for college late last night, she asked if I wanted to see the Batman movie. I replied I would, but asked if she might see 2016: Obama’s America, a documentary. Expecting her to reply with a smart “no” she said, “Sure, I like documentaries.” So, I got to see the film a second time during my last daddy-daughter date and loved the film even more!

Barack returning to the grave of his father as depicted in the film, 2016: Obama’s America

Please do not postpone seeing this movie. Do not wait for video. I strongly believe this film is a must-see for all Americans, even for the youth of America that are not old enough today to vote. If you expect to see propaganda, this film is not that. If you expect to see fringe, “birther-type” content, this film is not that. If you expect to see a movie slamming President Obama, you are missing the point. This movie is powerful. Please see it right away and get as many others you know to see it; it is that important. You will be glad you did.

Following is one viewer’s critique of “2016” who goes by the call sign shamusst from Los Angeles:

Being in the entertainment industry, we usually get a stiff gulp of cynicism and self-proposed opinionated bias when watching a documentary. Having seen most of the documentaries made in L.A. and around the world, this one reveals all the relationships with all of Barak’s mentors and close friends that appear to be anti-American, anti-British and anti-Israeli.

The scene that disgusted me the most was when Barak’s preacher of 20 years, said he was offered 150 thousand dollars to shut his mouth about, about his and Barak’s relationship and history. That in it’s self, made me doubt why I voted for Barak, in 2008.

I had never seen or heard, any of this information on any of our networks. It makes me wonder what their agenda is? It definitely makes me wonder why self-proclaimed “Mao-ist,” right-hand woman (Valerie Jarrett)to the President, is in the White house. I love our country. I refuse to be fooled again by someone that has such contempt for our great country and it’s ally’s.

Find out why President Obama blocked oil drilling in and around the United States while using American taxpayer funds for drilling in Brazil, Mexico, and other Latin American countries. And much more.

If you have friends or family members living in any of the battleground states of Ohio, Florida, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Iowa, Nevada, or Wisconsin, please contact them and implore them to see this movie. Much of the movie appears to be made using the words of Barack Obama from his audio book “Dreams From My Father.” The visuals of this film are beautiful and the editing is smart.

Once you have seen the film, please come back to this post and leave your comments so that others might benefit from your insight. If you too have already seen it, please leave your opinion in comments now. Let’s help get the word out so that as many Americans as possible might benefit from critical information that the mainstream media intentionally left out in the 2008 election cycle.

Giuliani & Noonan Call-Out Mainstream Media’s Double Standard — Biden: “Dumb” & “Stupid” (VIDEOS)

I’ll bet you didn’t know there was an MRC TV, did you? Neither did I. But one does exist!

NBC’s Meet The Press Sunday gave us two very short clips; one of Mayor Rudy Giuliani calling out the mainstream media for a double standard and calling Vice President Biden “dumb.” Following Giuliani’s remarks, Peggy Noonan made the same point but effectively calling Mr. Biden “stupid.”

Both videos combined are only about two minutes long:

Can you imagine what the mainstream media would do with Governor Romney or Congressman Ryan if they had made the same kinds of comments Vice President Biden did?

Why Obama is Running from Serious Reporters — (Strassel)

www.MittRomney.com (published in The Wall Street Journal, 8/16/12)

Three days ago, Kimberly Strassel’s weekly column from the Journal nailed it. The piece is titled, Why Republicans Can Win. At the time this MRC post was published, there were 159 really interesting comments at the WSJ article indicating the Democrats are seriously worried about this debate! I love it! Here is the last paragraph from Strassel’s excellent column:

This fear, this fundamentally changed political landscape, does not guarantee a Republican victory. But what it does promise is that if the Romney-Ryan ticket stays on offense—if it can fight to a draw on entitlements and leverage the powerful economic argument—then it has every shot at the White House.

As Paul Ryan would say: “Game on!” or “Bring it on!” or “We welcome this debate!”

So in thrall is the Beltway crowd to its received beliefs that it has missed this (minor) point: America looks nothing like it did even four years ago. The political landscape has been upended. And that is why Republicans can win this year.

As they have been winning. Those who insist the GOP loses when it talks entitlements have yet to explain Mr. Ryan. True fact: You can’t be the House Budget chairman without having won an election. That’s what Mr. Ryan has done, seven times, in a competitive Wisconsin district that contains senior citizens, independents and party moderates—and that voted Obama in 2008.

Kimberly A. Strassel (source: economics.wsj.com)

Save for his first run, he’s never earned less than 63% of the vote. And he’s done that by taking the entitlement fight to his opponents.

Ah, say the pros, but even Mr. Ryan couldn’t win an oldster state like Florida. Senior citizens will flip out. So they said in 2010, when Marco Rubio, in a debate with opponent Charlie Crist, suggested raising the retirement age and altering benefits to preserve Social Security. “Rubio just lost Florida!” screamed the Twitterverse.

Well, Sen. Marco Rubio is still talking about entitlement reform today. As are Republican Sens. Ron Johnson, Pat Toomey and Rob Portman, who beat Mediscare in swing states in 2010. As are dozens of House freshmen who ran on Mr. Ryan’s budget.

They won because something fundamental has changed in the electorate. Our country has been through recessions before. What it has not experienced is an administration that used an economic slowdown to spend America into a debt crisis. The debt numbers are today so extreme ($16 trillion, 70% of GDP), the consequences so real (credit downgrades, default), that voters are scared.

As Messrs. Obama and Biden continue to smile and swirl and squirm in their attempts to scare seniors and other Americans about Governor Romney’s plans to preserve Medicare, just refer back to Strassel’s simple logic and reasoning here. In the meantime, R&R will be taking it to O&B aggressively and relentlessly until they square with the American voter, or more likely, keep running from press conferences and experienced, serious reporters! I love it! Watch ’em do the dance.

Add to this the creeping nearness of an entitlement explosion. Social Security payouts already exceed revenue. Medicare could be bankrupt in eight years. In a 2011 Gallup poll, 67% of Americans agreed that Social Security and Medicare would create a financial crisis within a decade. Voters are willing to have this debate.

Then there’s the other dramatic political change, more recent: Voters for the first time have an honest entitlement choice. Democrats have for years claimed that the choice was between the status quo and GOP cuts. Then they passed ObamaCare. In doing so, they put themselves on record with their real plans for Medicare.

The president’s Affordable Care Act uses Medicare as a piggy bank, stripping today’s program of $716 billion. And the law’s way of dealing with the ensuing Medicare shortages is to empower a group of 15 individuals to make decisions on what medical services will need to be cut. So how does the Democratic Party intend to fix Medicare? Cut Medicare dollars, ration care. Now we know.

It is this Obama Medicare plan—not the status quo—that Republicans are running against. It is against this that they are contrasting Mr. Romney’s proposal to restore that $716 billion, to preserve existing benefits for those 55 and above, and to give younger Americans more options and continued quality care.

There is only one candidate gutting Medicare today: Mr. Obama. There is only one candidate who will preserve Medicare for future generations: Mr. Romney. That comparison is striking, and it blows up conventional wisdom.

In a Rasmussen survey this week, Florida voters were asked, “When it comes to the future of Medicare, which scares you more: President Obama’s health-care law or Paul Ryan’s proposal?” By 48% to 41%, Floridians were more scared of Mr. Obama’s $716 billion cut. And Floridians age 65 and up? By 54% to 34%—a 20 percentage-point difference—Florida seniors feared most an Obama future.

Democrats may not have good ideas, but they aren’t blind. They’ve felt the shifting landscape, lived through 2010, and they understand the threat of a bold reform politician.

That’s why Mr. Obama has personally spent such time the past two years publicly working to isolate and discredit Mr. Ryan. He’s not thrilled by the Ryan pick, oh no. He fears it.

[emphasis added]

Would you like another clue as to why we may win in November, with your help? Guess what happened in these key swing states last year? [Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina and Pennsylvania] What is your guess? 825,000 Democrats left the party and went Independent. Guess where Independent voters will likely go? Usually to the challenger, especially when the incumbent POTUS is not working and has done a terrible job in the saddle. For details, read this. R&R are excited as they should be. We need them to stay on offense, keep increasing the intensity, and never let up!

President Obama No Longer Fit to be Commander in Chief

Active duty military personnel cannot speak out against deplorable practices of the executive branch of The United States of America. However, veterans, friends, and former intelligence operatives of America can speak out on their behalf. They are doing so now.

[This editorial is the sole opinion of its author and is not intended to represent the opinions of any other person or entity]

Every branch of The United States military was involved in the operation that ended the reign of Osama bin Laden, as were many men and women of the intelligence services. It is they to whom this post is dedicated.

Normally, MRC would not post a video longer than a few minutes. I made an exception due to the importance of the message of this one. I don’t believe most Americans understand the grave nature of what President Obama has allowed to occur from the White House. Please watch this video, especially the last half (see caption below they symbol of the Navy SEAL at bottom).

Quote from the video:

“If we tell a **** terrorist we are coming to get him, how we find him, who is coming, how we are going to do it, me or some of my friends are going to die.” (~ Anonymous SOF Operator)

The extent to which President Obama exploited the bin Laden operation first came to my attention in February upon reading a powerful op-ed by former Navy SEAL, Leif Babin (see post here). I have been researching the extensive leaks ever since. Later this video was produced by a veterans group denouncing President Obama for his glory run.

DUTY - HONOR - COUNTRY

The men and women of our armed forces and intelligence services, by oath, place their lives ahead of self interest and are committed to lay down their lives to save those working next to them and for their country. President Obama also gave an oath to protect the Constitution of The United States of America. It is obvious that by consistently allowing senior White House officials to leak methods of operations and other classified secrets for political gain, Mr. Obama is no longer fit to be Commander in Chief. For he alone has reduced his standing to pedantic politician. His motives are purely political now. Evidence: Since Labor Day 2011, he has spent virtually no time attempting to do his job as POTUS; rather he has been campaigning or resting (golfing) from his campaign ever since.

A true leader gives all the credit to those he or she leads. A true leader takes full responsibility for his failures under his charge. President Obama has done neither of these. President Obama is not a leader and never has been a leader in the classic definition of that word.

Thousands of dedicated women and men of America’s armed forces and intelligence services were involved in the bin Laden raid. I believe the caption below typifies the state of mind of these, our patriots, and all American service members:

Humility: The Trident is a symbol of that humility. In the Trident of a Navy SEAL, the majestic eagle has his head bowed. Without humility, the Navy SEAL knows he cannot learn. Without humility, the Navy SEAL in all likelihood will die on the battlefield. Humility helps them to learn and live to their full potential.
