Last night, several notable “Tea Party-ers” gathered for a “Unity Rally” at The River Church here in Tampa. The list of speakers was impressive and some of the headliners were Neil Boortz, Herman Cain, Michelle Bachman, Pam Bondi, and Rebecca Kleefisch.

Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch (who, like Gov. Scott Walker, got to run and win her office/term TWICE!) did a great job energizing the crowd for the Romney/Ryan ticket (1 minute video below).

Herman Cain was his usual entertaining self and used some of his time to show how hard he’s willing to work for the future of our country by making sure that Obama doesn’t serve another term. He said he doesn’t feel spurned by not getting a speaking slot at GOP convention; that he favors time for younger ABCs (American Black Conservatives) like Mia Love.

Mia, current mayor of Saratoga Springs, is running for Congress in Utah and has been endorsed in that race by Mitt Romney.

The Tea Party Folks here last night seemed genuinely excited to get Romney/Ryan in the White House!

Romney Brothers in Demand at GOP Convention: FOX & Friends, Megyn Kelly Interview, Speak to Delegates

While tropical storm Isaac churns across the U.S. Gulf Coast into what is expected to be a strong Category 1 or 2 hurricane, formal events cancelled at the GOP convention today in Tampa, FL, afforded a plethora of opportunities for politicians, politicos and attendees to mingle.

The Romney brothers, in full force at the convention, are in high demand. They were interviewed early this morning by FOX & Friends’ Steve Doocy AND also later appeared on FOX News’ America Live with Megyn Kelly.

Here’s the FOX & Friends interview (video of the Megyn Kelly interview is at the end of this article):

During the interview, a viewer tweeted a question: Describe your father using one word…

Craig: “Qualified.”
Ben: “Frugal.”
Josh jokingly chimed in: “Cheap.”
Matt: “Integrity.”
Tagg: “Generous.”

With a changed convention schedule, breakfasts, luncheons, and state delegate meetings were the order of they day. Tagg, Matt, Josh, Ben, and Craig Romney fanned out to lend helping hands:

Tagg Romney spoke to Virginia delegates and was joined by Angelina Jolie’s father, movie star Jon Voight:

Actor Jon Voight, a longtime supporter of the GOP, is in Tampa speaking to delegates and hanging out with the Romney family.

Tagg Romney tweeted a photo of himself, Voight, Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) and Julie Chaffetz addressing the Virginia delegation Monday morning.

Voight introduced Romney at the event and posed for pictures with delegates, according to sightings on Twitter.

The actor, the father of Angelina Jolie, also attended the 2008 Republican National Convention in Minneapolis.

And he has ties to vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan. In 2009, Voight attended a major GOP fundraiser in Washington, where he was introduced by the Wisconsin lawmaker.

One of the most courageous acts in our society today is to stand up in Hollywood and say you’re a conservative Republican,” Ryan said of the actor.

Aug 27, 2021 - After speaking to the Virginia delegation, this photo was taken: (left to right) Jon Voight, Tagg Romney, Julie Chaffetz (wife of UT Congressman Jason Chaffetz) , Jason Chaffetz

Voight also spoke with The Daily Caller and lambasted the mainstream media for being Obama’s lap dogs:

“The media has been taken over by this administration,” Voight, an outspoken Hollywood conservative, said in an interview with TheDC. “It’s not less than what has happened in Venezuela with Hugo Chavez, really, because you can’t get the information through. I’m giving you this because I want to get the press my opinion. You can put it in any way you want to. But, it’s become pure propaganda and we should be appalled.”

“I mean look at the main media is not going to cover the Republican convention?” Voight added as an example. “This is propaganda, pure and simply. They say, ‘well, we’ll give them an hour.’ They’ll edit an hour – well, what will they edit out? What is the story they will tell? Do you understand?”

Guys, you should be appalled,” Voight continued. “America, guys, wake up. You should be appalled that they can get away with it, that they can attack – the Republican Party is a victim of a bias, of a destructive bias against the Republican Party. It’s been going on for all this time and it’s getting worse and worse. And, now this? Come on, people, stand up.”

Voight is courageous and correct.

Matt Romney was scheduled to address the Colorado delegation today (awaiting a report). He attended a Michigan delegate party last night in Tampa and his darling little daughter accompanied him. Here’s a photo of them at the get-together last night with MI Attorney General Bill Schuette:

UPDATE - Matt Romney stresses his father “fixes things” before Colorado GOP delegation:

The friendly crowd of 36 delegates and 33 alternates and their guests reacted positively to Matt Romney’s description of his father as gifted in solving problems at several levels, from fixes around the house, to complex private equity deals with Bain Capital, to the elder Romney’s reformation of Salt Lake City’s hosting of the Winter Olympics.

He also touted Romney’s budget surpluses during his single term as the governor of Massachusetts.

Romney praised his father’s choice of fiscal hawk Rep. Paul Ryan, which drew big cheers from the crowd.

He called for the delegation to get out the vote in the swing state of Colorado, saying his father “believes like you do that we should not spend money we don’t have.

“That’s taxpayers’ money,” Matt Romney said. “That’s your money.”

After speaking to the Colorado delegation, Matt Romney spoke about his Dad with reporters:

Here’s how Josh Romney spent last night (tweet):

Great event tonight with WI and MS. Joined Reince Priebus, Haley Barbour, Scott Walker, Henry Barbour in welcoming delegates to FL

‘Omelets with Orrin’ was Josh’s destination this morning where he spoke to Utah delegates. The event was hosted by Senator Orrin Hatch:

TAMPA, Fla. — Mitt Romney will survive “that meat grinder called a presidential election” and win in November, Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch told members of the Utah delegation to the Republican National Convention at their first breakfast meeting Monday.

“I’m so proud of Mitt Romney,” Utah’s senior senator said at an “Omelets with Orrin” breakfast honoring his 36 years of service that included a rallying speech by Josh Romney, one of two Romney sons who lives in Utah.

Josh Romney, who lives with his family in Millcreek and has considered running for office in Utah, said the same enthusiasm voters had for Obama four years ago has been transferred to his father.

I have yet to meet someone who says, ‘I voted for (2008 GOP nominee Arizona Sen. John) McCain four years ago and this time, I’m going for Obama,’ “ Josh Romney said. “The same thing President Obama had four years ago, we’ve got it now.”

Ari Fleischer also spoke to the Utah delegates.

Ben Romney, the son we don’t get to see as often as the others due to his medical residency in radiology, spoke during a breakfast for the West Virginian delegates. Beth Myers, the capable force known for helping Governor Romney with his V.P. search, also attended.

Craig Romney had the microphone at a breakfast meeting for Michigan delegates:

Craig Romney… recalled for the Michigan delegation to the Republican National Convention a story about Mitt Romney’s character.

As Mitt Romney took control of the troubled 2000 Olympics in Salt Lake City, he wanted to generate excitement by including new events, including skeleton — an event “like the luge” but you go face first (down the track) at 80 mph, Craig explained.

The producers of the “Today” show offered to put Romney on the air with host Katie Couric to talk about turning around the scandal-laden Games, if he learned how to do the skeleton, Craig said of his dad, the presumptive GOP presidential candidate who’s to be nominated here this week.

So Romney recruited the eventual gold-medalist to coach him because he didn’t want to miss the opportunity to drum up support for the Olympics.

“You can imagine he was terrified. He’s not exactly a thrill seeker,” Craig Romney said of his father… “He eventually learned to do the whole track.

“People saw this guy will literally do anything, including risking his own personal health, to make the Games a success.”

Newt Gingrich also spoke to the MI delegates.

Craig, who speaks fluent Spanish, is also featured in a Spanish-language radio ad which was released today.

The Romney brothers weighed in on their Dad’s run for the White House with FOX News’ Megyn Kelly:

Mitt Romney did a morning run-through of his all-important convention speech today at a New Hampshire high school auditorium (I imagine Ann rehearsed her speech, as well.)

When asked by a reporter if he thought the convention should be cancelled due to the hurricane, Governor Romney responded:

“Our sons are already in Tampa and they say it’s terrific there, a lot of great friends. And we’re looking forward to a great convention[.]” …

He said he hoped those in the storm’s path would be “spared any major destruction” but indicated there were no thoughts of canceling the convention in Tampa, where Isaac’s heavy rain had all but passed.

Romney’s running mate, Congressman Paul Ryan, is flying to Tampa today.

The Romney sons are great ambassadors for their parents and Congressman Ryan.

What a grand sight it will be to see the ENTIRE Romney family and the Paul Ryan family on the convention stand this Thursday night!

Full Tampa RNC Convention Schedule

The Tampa RNC Convention Committee has released the full convention schedule for this week. As you may know, the events that were previously scheduled for Monday were all re-scheduled for Tuesday as a safety precaution due to Hurricane Isaac. The convention will still end on Thursday as previously scheduled with Governor Romney as the concluding speaker.

Below is the entire convention schedule in a nicely laid out table for your reference during the week. (In case you are wondering, the late night schedule is designed for prime-time viewing on the major networks.) The schedule is very long so I have hidden it below the fold. If you are viewing this from the home page of our website click the ‘more’ button to view the schedule.

Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are Coming to Michigan!

On the back of some great polling news in Michigan showing the Romney-Ryan ticket surging to the lead, Mitt and Paul Ryan are holding a homecoming rally in Oakland County in Michigan. Oakland County is perhaps the most important county in the country and a win in Mitt’s home county will likely lead to a win in the state of Michigan which will make President’s Obama’s path to victory virtually impossible.

Do everything you can to promote this rally and try to make it to the last big rally before the Republican National Convention where Mitt will officially become the nominee!

Chris Christie Will Not Receive “A Personality-ectomy” Before Keynote Address

Governor Christie was interviewed yesterday by Peter Haskell on WCBS 880 radio, looking ahead to his keynote address at the Republican National Convention. Christie mentioned that he is currently on his seventh draft:

“I think it’s about the record we’ve established here and I think Gov. Romney is an admirer of that record and I think that’s why he asked me,” Christie told Haskell.

The famously brash governor said he has no plans to tone it down for the national audience.

“I don’t think they have any expectation nor have they requested that I have a personality-ectomy between now and next Tuesday,” Christie told Haskell. “They know what they’re buying,” Christie added.

The governor said he worked on his speech while he was on vacation last week.

The keynote speech is the highest-profile spot for someone not accepting the party’s presidential or vice presidential nomination. The slot has launched many political figures including President Barack Obama, who was the keynote speaker at the Democratic National Convention in 2004. Four years later, he won the White House.

Need a little warm-up to Governor Christie’s keynote address in six days? Try this little video montage of Christie’s greatest hits. My favorite quote from these short clips came while Christie was speaking to a teacher who was complaining about tough decisions the governor had to make to cut funding of a library:

“Unlike The United States, New Jersey cannot print money!”

Romney & Ryan: Refuting Team Obama’s Lies With Medicare Truth, FLORIDA

Spreading the truth on Medicare across America is very much the goal of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan. Right now, the focus is on Florida…

A couple of days ago, Mitt Romney was interviewed by Sonni Abatta with FOX 35 TV in Orlando, Florida (Aug 15, 2021). Along with other topics, Romney told it like it is on Medicare, how his plan will affect hispanics, and refuted Obama’s lies. (At the end of the interview, Ms. Abatta also asked Governor Romney “If you’re in the White House, what is your favorite pastime going to be?”) Take a look:

● Romney’s press team today released ‘ONE YEAR LATER, MEDICARE IS STILL GOING BROKE‘:

One Year Ago Today, President Obama Warned That Failing To Fix Medicare Would “Gobble Up Basically The Entire Federal Budget”:

President Obama, One Year Ago Today: “The Bigger Problem Is Medicare And Medicaid. … Medicare And Medicaid Would Gobble Up Basically The Entire Federal Budget.” OBAMA: “The bigger problem is Medicare and Medicaid. And the reason that’s a problem is because health care costs keep on going up faster than inflation, people’s wages, people’s incomes at the same time as folks are getting older, so we’ve got more people into the system. And if we didn’t do anything, then Medicare and Medicaid would gobble up basically the entire federal budget.” (President Barack Obama, Remarks, Alpha, IL, 8/17/11)

What Has President Obama “Achieved” During His Four Years In Office? He’s Failed To Lead On Fixing Medicare And Slashed $716 Billion To Pay For Obamacare:

According To The Nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, Obamacare Cuts $716 Billion From Medicare. (Congressional Budget Office, Letter To Speaker John Boehner, 7/24/12)

The Miami Herald: “Obama’s $700 Billion Medicare-Cut Problem” (Marc Caputo, “Obama’s $700 Billion Medicare-Cut Problem,” The Miami Herald, 8/12/12)

President Obama’s Senior Campaign Aide Bragged That President Obama “Achieved” $700 Billion In “Cuts In Medicare.” CUTTER: “Well, you know ask the wealthy to pay a little bit more. Cut waste from the government. Reform Medicare. More than $300 billion in savings from Medicare. On top of the savings we’ve already achieved. You know I heard Mitt Romney deride the $700 billion cuts in Medicare that the president achieved through health care reform.” (CBS’s “Face The Nation,” 8/12/12)

And Millions Of Seniors Are The Ones Who Will Pay The Price For President Obama’s Medicare Cuts:

FactCheck.org: “The Promise That ‘Benefits Will Remain The Same’ Is Just As Fictional As The Town Of Mayberry…” “Currently, about 1 in every 4 Medicare beneficiary is enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan. For many of them, the words in this ad ring hollow, and the promise that ‘benefits will remain the same’ is just as fictional as the town of Mayberry was when Griffith played the local sheriff.” (Brooks Jackson, “Mayberry Misleads On Medicare,” FactCheck.org, 7/31/10)

VP candidate Paul Ryan will be in important swing state Florida tomorrow to spread Medicare truth at a Victory Rally with senior citizens at ‘The Villages’ - the worlds largest retirement community. 31,860 residents at The Villages received Social Security benefits at the end of 2010. Ryan is bringing along a special guest - country music artist Lee Greenwood. Another noteworthy guest will be there, too - a very important advocate for the Romney/Ryan approach to Medicare - Ryan’s 78 year-old mother, Betty.

Ryan’s stop in Florida will be his first visit there since becoming the VP candidate. The big event is scheduled for 10AM-11AM Eastern time. For televised coverage check C-Span tomorrow.

Lie of the Year - Democrats Omit Key Components of Ryan and Romney’s Medicare Plan

Last year, an unbiased fact-checking organization named Politifact awarded Democrats the honor of telling the “Lie of the Year” about Paul Ryan’s Medicare plan. Democrats were given the award for saying that Paul Ryan wanted to “end Medicare as we know it.”

For the first time in Politifact’s history, it seems that Democrats are eager to repeat the award for the same lie again this year.

Now that Paul Ryan has been nominated as Romney’s V.P., the Democrats are hoping to scare senior citizens away from Ryan and Romney by endlessly repeating that Ryan and Romney want to “end Medicare as we know it.” Even president Obama has been repeating this falsehood.

So why is this a lie? First, Romney and Ryan both have said that they will not eliminate traditional Medicare at all. There will be no changes for seniors who are currently on Medicare. In fact, everyone age 55 and over will not have the option of choosing anything else besides traditional Medicare.

For those Americans who are younger than 55, they will have the choice between traditional Medicare or obtaining private insurance where the government pays for the cost of purchasing private insurance as long as private insurance covers the same benefits and features as traditional Medicare.

That’s it. No one is proposing “ending Medicare as we know it.” No one is proposing eliminating traditional Medicare for anyone.

So during the next few months, you will hear a lot of Democrats saying that Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney want to end Medicare. It is simply not true no matter how many times they say it.

From the sound of the presidential campaign these days, we can anticipate the Democrats earning back-to-back trophies for ”The Lie of the Year.”

In conclusion, Gingrich did a great job discussing this very issue last Sunday during his interview on Face the Nation. I encourage you to watch the whole interview, but he starts talking about health care at 1:26 of the clip below.

Romney Sets Alabama Fundraising Record: $2 Million Evening- Inside Report from MRC Blogger Jeff Fuller

Mitt Romney came to Birmingham, Alabama last night and held a stellar fundraising event … leaving town with a cool $2,000,000 from me and my fellow Alabamians.

Reports are that this is the largest fundraising total for any Alabama political event. Held at The Club, which overlooks downtown, Romney held a VIP photo reception, followed by a general reception, and tied things up with a dinner.

Cool flash effect on my License plate while overlooking downtown Birmingham from The Club. Taken during the record-setting Mitt Romney fundraiser on August 15th, 2012

A write-up of the event highlighted some of our future President’s words:

“The median income for a family has dropped $4,000 in the past four years,” Romney said. “Gasoline prices have doubled. Food prices are up. Health care prices are up. Utility prices are up. People in middle income families are getting crushed and one out six Americans are now living in poverty.

“He is out of ideas. He is out of excuses. And we need to make sure in November we put him out of office,” Romney said to a surge of applause from supporters.

… the crowd included an all-star lineup of the state Republican party. Romney was introduced by U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions, after the crowd was warmed up by U.S. Rep. Spencer Bachus, Alabama House Speaker Mike Hubbard and Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey. Gov. Robert Bentley was there as was former Gov. Bob Riley. Lee Styslinger, CEO of Altec, Inc., hosted the event.

US Senator from Alabama, Jeff Sessions, introduced Mitt Romney at The Club in Birmingham, AL

My wife posted to her Facebook page that the atmosphere was “electric,” and she hit the nail on the head! Mitt had the crowd going, and there were 3-4 times as many people present as at a similar fundraiser held at the same place almost exactly one year ago, last August, which we also attended. The crowd was timid then, as the GOP nomination was being hotly debated and two southerners, Rick Perry and Newt Gingrich were on the rise. In stark contrast, there was no timidity there tonight! These folks are excited to see Romney and Ryan take over the White House and were showing that with their enthusiasm and their pocketbooks.

More from the article above:

Romney cited numerous examples of how individuals, in business and politics and society can make a difference. He saluted Lech Walesa, the Polish labor leader who stood up to the Soviet Union and went on to become president of Poland. He gave a nod to Alabama, mentioning Rosa Parks and her refusal to give up her seat on a Montgomery bus leading to the arrest that helped spark the civil rights movement.
“It is remarkable the impact that one person can have,” Romney said.

And it is the collective activity of individuals free to pursue their ambitions that makes the U.S. economy the envy of the world, Romney said, not government planning.

Our economy runs on freedom,” Romney said. “That is how it works.”

So, Vice President Biden, do you think the man who singles out and praises Rosa Parks at a private GOP fundraiser in Alabama “wants to put y’all back in chains” !?!?! Time for Vice President Ryan, eh?

One other tidbit, not mentioned in the article, is that Mitt said he met recently with Condoleezza Rice (final VP vetting interviews possibly?!?!) and she shared a story with him of the important role one person can play. This individual courage was displayed by an old Romanian woman in a rally crowd who called her authoritarian dictator, Nicolae Ceausescu, a “liar” and started a revolution. As detailed in her book “No Higher Honor,” Dr. Rice (an Alabamian, by the way) recounts:

U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Have a Friend in Romney, NEW COALITION

American ranchers and farmers have formed a new coalition for Governor Mitt Romney…

Having lived a portion of my life among America’s western sagebrushed ranches and farm hayfields, I know what a hardscrabble existence it can be. I also know how VITAL America’s amazing salt-of-the-earth ranchers and farmers are to our nation’s well-being and to the world.

Did you know that farming alone creates 23 MILLION jobs for Americans? That makes agriculture our nation’s largest employer. 23 million jobs is enough to employ every single person in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Portland, Denver, Phoenix, San Diego, Houston, Philadelphia, and Boston - COMBINED. No doubt about it, farmers and ranchers grow our economy.

These are just a few of the reasons I was happy to hear today’s news from Mitt Romney. A dynamic new coalition has been created - ‘Farmers and Ranchers for Romney’:

I’m honored to have so many farmers and ranchers standing with my campaign,” said Mitt Romney. “They are the backbone of America and play a critical role in ensuring Americans across the country have access to safe and affordable food. The fruit of their labor nourishes the world, and I admire their hard work in harvesting our country’s bountiful resources. Our farmers and ranchers also have a critical role in the health of our economy, employingth millions of Americans. I’m grateful to have their support in my efforts to turn around the economy and strengthen the middle class.”

I’ve heard Governor Romney speak of the summer when he was 15 years old and he went to work on his uncle’s ranch in Idaho. He said they raised corn and lots and lots of alfalfa. He recalled how long the days were; it was good, hard work - and a great way to gain real appreciation for the daily rigors of ranching and farming.

Commissioner Adam Putnam said, “As Florida’s Agriculture Commissioner, I’m proud to be supporting Governor Romney’s campaign to get this country moving in the right direction again. While agriculture in America has its own set of unique challenges, farmers are looking for a leader in the White House who knows how the private sector works. Throughout the past three and a half years, President Obama has demonstrated in both his rhetoric and his policies that he lacks that understanding. I’m confident that Governor Romney’s experience and vision will restore a brighter future for all Americans.”

Senator Mike Johanns said, “Having served as U.S. Secretary of Agriculture and represented Nebraskans as both Governor and Senator, I’m familiar with the challenges and opportunities throughout rural America. From ranches to family farms, the heartland helped build this nation and agriculture remains part of the very fabric that binds it together. President Obama’s policies have failed to reinvigorate our economy, and even worse, his regulatory overreach stifled growth and cost jobs. Once a man of soaring rhetoric, his words now diminish the labor and sacrifice of all Americans by saying they didn’t build their businesses. I grew up on a farm and know that success is not the result of government action, but rather individual initiative and hard work. Mitt Romney understands the power of free enterprise and its ability to unleash the entrepreneurial spirit. As president, he will not only jumpstart economic growth in this country, but also carefully tend to the needs of agricultural producers and rural communities.”

Former USDA Deputy Secretary Charles Conner said, “I was raised on a family farm, and having policies which help agriculture thrive is close to my heart. That’s one of the reasons why I’m supporting Mitt Romney. The task of turning around our economy so it works for all Americans will not be an easy one, but I’m confident Governor Romney will deliver. Having spent most of his career in the private sector, he knows why President Obama’s policies have ill-served economic growth and the jobs that only free enterprise can create.”

Iowa Agriculture Secretary Bill Northey said, “Here in Iowa, farmers and ranchers form a key role in powering our economy. Over the course of the past three and a half years, President Obama hasn’t made good on the promises of his campaign four years ago, and the impact of his economic policies has been devastating throughout the country. The need for a new direction and fresh leadership in the White House could not be clearer, and I believe Mitt Romney will provide both.”

What do American farmers grow?
