Quartet of Speakers Revealed for GOP Convention: Bush, Fallin, Paul, Santorum

A view of beautiful downtown Tampa, Florida where Republicans will converge for the GOP National Convention on August 27 - 30, 2012.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus today heralded a second round of speakers to participate in the GOP National Convention August 27-30. Prieubus has stated that the RNC and Romney camp have a great working relationship and are coordinating together to “make a truly memorable and momentous event.”

A notable quartet of speakers: Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, 43rd governor of Florida and current chairman of the Foundation for Florida’s Future; Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin, the first woman to serve as both Oklahoma lieutenant governor and governor, and the first woman elected to Congress from Oklahoma since the 1920s; U.S. Senator Rand Paul, junior senator from Kentucky and founder of the U.S. Senate Tea Party Caucus; and former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum, 2012 presidential primary candidate, U.S. Senator (1995-2007), and U.S. Representative (1991-1995) from Pennsylvania.

I am thrilled to announce Governor Bush, Governor Fallin, Senator Paul and Senator Santorum will address our convention,” said Priebus. “As our party unites around Governor Romney, these four great leaders will lend their voices in support of his vision to get America back on track.”

“Governors Bush and Fallin, and Senators Paul and Santorum are among our party’s most respected leaders, and their participation at the Republican Convention will help generate enthusiasm for Governor Romney’s plans to strengthen our economy,” said convention Chief Executive Officer William Harris.

★ Former Governor Jeb Bush

This election comes down to a fundamental choice - between Mitt Romney’s commitment to business innovation and job growth and the president’s record of government taxation and takeovers. This choice comes at a critical time for our country. We are facing tremendous challenges and our response to them will determine the course of our nation for generations to come. There is a lot at stake for us in November and that is why I am proud to support Governor Mitt Romney as the next president of the United States and I look forward to being a part of his nomination at the Republican National Convention in my home state of Florida,” said Jeb Bush.

★ Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin

The election this November is about much more than politics. It is a decision we have to make about the direction of America - are we going to continue to tax and spend and grow government far past the point of sustainability, or are we going to restore fiscal sanity to Washington, D.C. and force government to live within its means? In Oklahoma, we work to make government serve the people and not the other way around. Our next president has to share this same commitment and that is why I am so proud to be a part of the Republican National Convention to officially nominate Mitt Romney,” said Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin.

★ U.S. Senator Rand Paul

“In the past four years, we have seen the national debt soar at the hands of failed Democrat policies. We are nearing a fiscal cliff and are in desperate need of a change of direction. Whether it is Obamacare, Dodd-Frank or the EPA’s war on coal, American jobs and growth are being stifled by the current policies. I believe Governor Romney would help our country start a new path, where job creators are encouraged not punished, and where the size and scope of government are brought under control. I am honored to speak about our Republican vision for the future at the national convention in Tampa,” said Senator Rand Paul.

★ Former Senator Rick Santorum

I am so passionate about this election because the core principles of our country are at stake. The Republican National Convention is an important time for us to rally behind Mitt Romney and his vision to put our country back on track. We need a leader in the White House who is committed to reforming government. Republicans believe that removing the incentive to work will destroy welfare reform as we know it, costing taxpayers millions and leading the poor to a life of dependency. The contrast between President Obama and Mitt Romney could not be greater. Conservatives from across the country are rallying together and we will make our voices heard in a few weeks in Tampa,” said Senator Rick Santorum.

Governor Romney kicks off a mult-state bus tour this Saturday which will take him to Florida on Monday. He is expected to stop in Jacksonville, Orlando, and Miami.

Stay tuned for additional convention speakers, including the illustrious keynote speaker, to be announced in the coming days!

Obama Talks Out of Both Sides of Mouth, Continues Dishonest, Shameful Smear Campaign

Note: Rather than list in this article all the lies from Obama, Romney supporters are invited to leave comments exposing the outsourcing Obama has done and the many lies coming from him, his administration, and his campaign.

“President Obama continues to talk out of both sides of his mouth. While lamenting negative ads and calling for a debate on the issues, his campaign is running a dishonest, shameful smear campaign with no plans to get Americans back to work. The American people deserve the truth and they certainly deserve better from their president.”
– Andrea Saul, Romney Campaign Spokesperson

Obama continued his unrelenting lying today…

On the campaign trail the President still unabashedly proclaimed “Mr. Romney” as an outsourcer - that he, Obama, is an insourcer. When one is in the deceit business, saying preposterous things seem normal. He’s the emperor with no clothes - a preposterous President whose lies roll so easily off his tongue.

Here’s the latest today from Mitt Romney Press:

Days After Accusing Governor Romney Of Being A Felon, The Obama Campaign Now Professes To Want A Real Debate On The Issues:

Obama Campaign Spokesperson Jen Psaki: “Of Course The President Wants To Have A Highbrow Debate About These Policy Issues And What The American People Actually Care About.” (Politico, 7/14/12)

How Can President Obama Have The “Highbrow Debate” He Allegedly Wants? Don’t Spend $100 Million On Overwhelmingly Negative Ads…

The Associated Press: “A Sustained Early Barrage Designed To Create Lasting, Negative Impressions” Of Governor Romney. “President Barack Obama’s campaign has spent nearly $100 million on television commercials in selected battleground states so far, unleashing a sustained early barrage designed to create lasting, negative impressions of Republican Mitt Romney before he and his allies ramp up for the fall.” (“Obama Spending On Attack Ads Soars,” The Associated Press, 7/14/12)

Don’t Allow Your Campaign To Accuse Your Opponent Of Being A Felon…

FactCheck.org: “No Basis For The Obama Campaign’s Claim That Romney Committed A Felony.” “But we see little new in any of these SEC filings, and a University of Pennsylvania Law School professor we spoke to sees no basis for the Obama campaign’s claim that Romney committed a felony.” (Brooks Jackson, “Romney’s Bain Years: New Evidence, Same Conclusion,” FactCheck.org, 7/12/12)

CNN’s Wolf Blitzer: “Before You Make An Accusation, Shouldn’t There Be More Investigation When You Start Raising The Possibility, In [The Obama Campaign’s] Words, Of Committing Felony…?” BLITZER: “So, the question is: why would Stephanie Cutter jump to this felony accusation? No one has ever suggested Mitt Romney did anything ever criminally wrong. … The question is, before you make an accusation, shouldn’t there be more investigation when you start raising the possibility, in her words, of committing felony – potentially this is a felony? That’s a serious accusation.” (CNN’s “The Situation Room,” 7/12/12)

Former Governor And DNC Chair Ed Rendell: The Obama Campaign “Went A Little Bit Too Far With The Felony Business.” RENDELL: “I think Carol also made a very good point about all this attack may be hurting the President’s brand a little bit, too. I think our supporters went a little bit too far with the felony business.” (MSNBC’s “NOW With Alex Wagner,” 7/13/12)

Syndicated Columnist Charles Krauthammer: “When You Get The Obama Campaign Accusing Him Of Being A Felon, You Have Jumped The Shark.” KRAUTHAMMER: “But when you get the Obama campaign accusing him of being a felon, you have jumped the shark. … So when they accuse him of deliberately lying to the SEC and committing a felony, they are then retroactively questioning all the series of charges up to then. That’s jumping the shark. That is a mistake.” (Fox News’ “Special Report,” 7/12/12)

Romney on Hannity Radio: “Obama Attacks Deflect From Issues Nation Faces” / Five-Step Jobs Plan

Sean Hannity welcomed Governor Mitt Romney to his radio program yesterday to talk about an article released yesterday by the Romney press team titled The Truth Hurts. For weeks Obama and surrogates have been telling lies about Romney’s record; this fact-filled article debunks Team Obama’s despicable distortions and fabrications.

Romney called in from Grand Junction, Colorado; you don’t want to miss this excellent interview:

A few highlights from Romney…

@ 2:19 - The challenge for this president is in a lot of respects he’s an old-style Democrat; the old liberals were always in favor of more government programs, more spending, more borrowing when things were difficult. And, we’ve found that has not worked. The right course for America is not to raise taxes on people, not to go out and borrow excessively, but instead to live within our means and to have tax policies that encourage job creators and small businesses to grow their business and add employees.

@7:30 - I have a five-step plan to see jobs recover in this country.
1. Take advantage of our energy resources – oil, coal, gas, renewables.
2. Open trade – particularly in Latin America and crack down on China when they cheat.
3. Put us on track to have a balanced budget.
4. Make sure we have schools and training programs that prepare us for the jobs of today and tomorrow.
5. Restore economic freedom in this country. The taxes, the regulations, the burdens applied by government are crushing economic freedom, are crushing entrepreneurs. That has to end. We have to restore the American dream or our economy will stay in the doldrums.

@9:45 – …I would make the Bush tax cuts permanent, but then go to work to reform our tax code altogether

@11:28 – Isn’t it amazing that the President of the United States – who by the way, called me and congratulated me when I got a pretty good lock on the nomination – he called me and said, “The country is going to benefit by an honest and important debate on the future direction of the country.“ That’s what he said. And yet, what he has done has been one attack after the other on items that deflect interest from a real debate on the issues the nation faces. This most recent one suggesting that I would engage in something that is illegal, that is criminal, that I would hide assets and not pay fair taxes, not pay the taxes that are owed - I mean it’s unbelievable. He said, “Well, it’s a matter of transparency.” Well, how about the transparency of a president who through executive privilege is preventing the American people from finding out what happened in the Fast & Furious program? If there is transparency that needs to be condemned here it’s the lack of transparency in his administration to let the American people know what has happened in a scandalous activity known as Fast & Furious. So Sean, I can assure you of this – I have followed the law, I have paid my taxes as due, I have also disclosed through all the requirements of the government every asset which I own – fairly and honestly – recognizing, of course, not to do so would be not only wrong, but illegal and criminal. It is this president however, that must explain why he has resorted to executive privilege to hide from the American people the truth about Fast & Furious.

UPDATE - After delivering his speech today to the NAACP, Romney was interviewed by Neil Cavuto (FOX News). The Hill reports:

Romney also discussed the state of the campaign, downplaying concerns voiced by some Republicans that his campaign had not been aggressive enough in combating attacks from Democrats. But Romney said his campaign was better served by trying to focus on issues they saw as relevant to voters.

“I respond to the attacks that come, but they say in politics if you are responding, you are losing,” Romney said. “I think the better course for our campaign is to respond to the attacks as being completely off-base. People are tired of this petty attack that comes from politicians and they want to see someone who talks about the issues they care about.”

Romney also dismissed calls from the Obama campaign to release additional years of tax returns, calling the issue a distraction. The Obama campaign issued a new commercial Wednesday calling on Romney to disclose more information about his financial holdings.

The Democrats are always going to be critics,” Romney said. “We have released all of the financial statements required by law and two years of tax returns. The most recent year we will be releasing as soon as that’s prepared. Tax information is there, other financial disclosure is there; the same level of information that [Sens.] John McCain [(R-Ariz.)] and John Kerry [(D-Mass.)] for that matter released when they were running for president.

Mitt Romney’s Economic Reality - The ‘Presidential Corollary’ (Part II)

Notwithstanding the media’s protestations to the contrary, Governor Romney has stated his plan for Jobs and Economic Growth (here), and it isn’t by government largesse but by empowerment of society! He released his plan in late 2011, early 2012, and it is very specific. The complaint from the media and many others is that it is too detailed, and too specific. Really? They have said it adds too much complexity to the equation and isn’t understood by the majority - maybe so. Part of our problem in society is that we want pablum rather than meat and potatoes; we want celebrity over competency; we want sound bites rather than detail, depth and specifics. To solve our challenges we need substance, not sound bites; we need a President who will lead with principle and competency, not celebrity and situational standards; we need detail, depth and specifics! The POTUS can and does affect the economy and jobs with LEADERSHIP and sound policies!

So here are the basics of Governor Romney’s plan in summary -

DAY ONE, JOB ONE.
When Mitt Romney says that fostering job creation through economic growth will be his top priority from his first day in office, he means it. While some elements of his plan will take time to set in motion, much can be done from a running start. On Inauguration Day, he will submit a jobs package to Congress consisting of at least five major proposals and will demand that Congress act on the package within 30 days, using every power at his disposal to ensure its passage. He will also take immediate and specific steps within his sole authority as president by issuing a series of executive orders that gets the U.S. government out of the economy’s way. The goal: restore America to the path of robust economic growth necessary to create jobs.

FIVE BILLS FOR DAY ONE
American Competitiveness Act
• Reduces the corporate income tax rate to 25 percent

The Open Markets Act
• Implements the Colombia, Panama, and South Korea Free Trade Agreements

The Domestic Energy Act
• Directs the Department of the Interior to undertake a comprehensive survey of American energy reserves in partnership with exploration companies and initiates leasing in all areas currently approved for exploration

The Retraining Reform Act
• Consolidates the sprawl of federal retraining programs and returns funding and responsibility for these programs to the states

The Down Payment on Fiscal Sanity Act
• Immediately cuts non-security discretionary spending by 5 percent, reducing the annual federal budget by $20 billion

FIVE EXECUTIVE ORDERS FOR DAY ONE
An Order to Pave the Way to End Obamacare
• Directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services and all relevant federal officials to return the maximum possible authority to the states to innovate and design health care solutions that work best for them

An Order to Cut Red Tape
• Directs all agencies to immediately initiate the elimination of Obama-era regulations that unduly burden the economy or job creation, and then caps annual increases in regulatory costs at zero dollars

An Order to Boost Domestic Energy Production
• Directs the Department of the Interior to implement a process for rapid issuance of drilling permits to developers with established safety records seeking to use pre-approved techniques in pre-approved areas

An Order to Sanction China for Unfair Trade Practices
• Directs the Department of the Treasury to list China as a currency manipulator in its biannual report and directs the Department of Commerce to assess countervailing duties on Chinese imports if China does not quickly move to float its currency

An Order to Empower American Businesses and Workers
• Reverses the executive orders issued by President Obama that tilt the playing field in favor of organized labor, including the one encouraging the use of union labor on major government construction projects

After day one, job one, President Romney will address, with focus and capacity, the following key areas each of which will favorably impact our economy: Tax Policy, Regulatory Policy, Trade Policy, Energy Policy, Labor Policy, Human Capital Policy, Fiscal Policy, each of which are further addressed in his plan linked above. He will further address our Military and Foreign Policy by defining policies that are currently absent in the present administration. Bottom line - HE WILL LEAD!

The results of his leadership will be manifest in:
1) Restoring CONFIDENCE and STABILITY where it has been absent;
2) CAPITAL being released and flowing back into our economy from abundant corporate reserves held on and offshore, and bank’s whose abundant capital has been held hostage by oppressive regulation;
3) JOB creation escalating because of 1 and 2 above;
4) Reduction in energy costs as markets see, with confidence, a dynamic and growing future energy market in the US;
5) Renewed respect globally as rogue nations see a Strong America with Strong Leadership; and
6) A Renewal of American Prosperity and Patriotism!

As with Ronald Reagan in 1980, we will see a resurgent and prosperous America under President Romney. America’s best days are ahead if we choose wisely in November. Mitt Romney’s plan for America is a proven plan! Mitt Romney’s, Believe in America, a Plan for Jobs and Economic Growth, and his vision for our future is sound and based upon correct principles. Mitt Romney has the proven experience and capacity to LEAD this exceptional nation, a nation where men are free and liberty is fundamental. We will be again, the hope of the world.

Got Broccoli?

If not, the government can apparently tax you into buying some.

Of course if you’ve been following the news, or even just the posts on this site, you know the Supreme Court today upheld the individual mandate of Obamacare under Congress’ power to tax, but not under the Constitution’s commerce clause.

While the news is welcome that the commerce clause has its limits, it’s very disturbing to find out that Justice Roberts believes the government can tax you into buying a product it wants you to. Never mind Obama’s promise that the Affordable Care Act’s mandate was not a tax.

While there’s lots more analysis to come, and please read Jayde’s post below for more detail and Mitt’s statement, I’m simultaneously discouraged at the Court’s ruling the government can force me to buy a product, yet encouraged to know that we can still fix the immediate problem of the Affordable Care Act’s mandate by electing Mitt and a GOP majority in the Senate. If it wasn’t your goal before, get on board, donate to the campaign and get yourself involved. See Nate’s post above this one. If you don’t, after 2012, if you can’t answer the question correctly, it may cost you.

Got broccoli?

Democrats Believe Obama Can Lose, Worry Warts Growing

What are those little bumps growing on Democrats?

Check out the first paragraph of Mark Halperin’s article today on Time.com:

Between the Lines

With five months until Election Day, Barack Obama faces a grim new reality: Republicans now believe Mitt Romney can win, and Democrats believe Obama can lose … Last week’s anemic job-creation and economic-growth data was sandwiched between two Bill Clinton specials: in one television interview, the 42nd President lauded Romney’s business record as “sterling”; in another, he veered from the Obama line on the extension of Bush-era tax cuts … The failure to unseat Wisconsin’s Republican governor Scott Walker in a recall election was another bad sign for Democrats since it will rev up conservatives nationwide, including the kind of millionaires who gave big bucks to Walker’s effort … Veteran Democratic strategists from previous presidential bids and on Capitol Hill now wonder if the Obama re-election crew is working with the right message … The White House remains on a rough political trajectory, with a potentially adverse Supreme Court decision on the Obama health care law looming, additional bad economic news from Europe coming and more worrisome polling pending … Another danger for the President: the media freak show. Stalking that circus’ center ring is Matt Drudge, whose caustic website continues to help drive the news cycle with an emphasis on negative, mocking items about Obama and Vice President Joe Biden and their wives. The latest sign of Drudge’s potency: Ed Klein, the author of the virulently anti-Obama book The Amateur, was barred from major TV appearances and mostly ignored by the mainstream media, but the book’s prominence on Drudge’s website propelled it to the No. 1 slot on the New York Times nonfiction list.

(emphasis added)

Besides former President Bill Clinton, other Democrats are ringing the warning bell: Gov Ed Rendell (D-PA), retiring Rep Barney Frank (D-MA), Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Sen. Chris Coons, (D-DE), ex-Rep Harold Ford Jr. (D-TN), Mayor Cory Booker (D- Newark, NJ), former Rep Artur Davis (D-AL), Sen Mark Warner (D-VA), former Obama Economic Adviser Steve Rattner, and Obama bundler Don Peebles.

Yes, it’s early. Yes, a lot can and will happen in five months. And, Americans worried about the direction America is going must work harder than ever to elect Governor Mitt Romney. But…

The next time you see Obama or Axelrod, look closely.

Worry warts are growing.

Caused by growing woes... Worryoma Warticus.

Obama Unplugged and Revealed (Updated)

Remember, Remember! This has been a weekend of tender remembrance and reflection on the precious treasure spilt in defending our freedoms and liberties. To each who has given the ultimate sacrifice, even their very lives, in preserving and defending our freedoms; to their families and to each of the willing who has served or is serving, words are wholly inadequate. Even so, THANK YOU!

Given the sacrifices born for our freedom, we not only need to be appreciative and grateful, but responsible and accountable to the price paid for freedom. Therefore, as we consider the choices before us in the current Presidential election, may we further consider certain constants or truths that may be applicable in our pondering, and hopefully help shape our decision in the course forward? Some constants that have come to mind this weekend, to consider in our choice:

“Flattery and cunning words are the tools most often used to gain power, advantage, influence and control.”
“What you do speaks so loud; I cannot hear what you say.”
“By their fruits ye shall know them.”

In November, America faces a ‘defining moment’, an inflection point where we are making a choice, not just for an economic turnaround, but a choice for our very freedoms and liberty. We are choosing a leader who will either, guide our nation with experience and integrity, and abide an agenda that preserves our exceptionalism and freedom, or a ‘leader’ who, with flattery and guile, subtly advocates an ideology that seeks to destroy the very fabric of our Nation’s foundation – our freedom, liberty and exceptionalism.

Disappointed as I was with the outcome of the elections in 2008, I deemed Barack Obama a good man, but one unprepared and untested to lead. After all, with little experience, how much damage could he really do? Was I ever wrong! Look how far we are off course because of his incompetence, or his duplicity, or both?

It reminds of the boiling frog where the water temperature subtly rises without warning until it is too late. The frog enjoys the warmth with mediocrity unknowing what is about to befall him in his ultimate demise. Wake up America!

Let’s take a look at Barack Obama unplugged and revealed –

Referencing the worst President in history for business, in the American Spectator, Gary Shapiro addresses a list of 50 things (could be more) Obama has done in the past three years to undermine our economic fabric, HERE.

The Republican National Committee further provides a brief glimpse at Obama gone wild when it comes to the discipline, or lack thereof, of managing our economy below – willful intent, duplicity, incompetence? You choose!

As telling and revealing as these things are, consider “The Obama Constants” and applications below. In each instance, there is more that could be said.

Flattery: President Obama seems to heap flattery upon selected American societies hopeful that they will be blinded by his praise and turn a contrary course against another. The President’s unstated objective of waging class warfare for preserving his position as POTUS is offensive at best.
(Definition - a compliment or speech; excessive, insincere praise. Synonyms - sycophancy, toadying, fawning, pandering. Constant - Flattery and cunning words are the tools most often used to gain power, advantage, influence and control.)

Duplicity/Guile: President Obama has stated that his Presidency would be the most transparent of any in American history – it has been anything but transparent. Whether in the advocacy of Obamacare, or management of foreign policy, Obama has stated one thing and done the opposite. His social mandate on the Catholic Church contrary to their tenets while proffering otherwise; his statement to Medvedev on a ‘hot’ microphone and the subsequent cover-up; his appointment of czars to get around the Constitutional checks and balances of Congress; in each case, Obama has pursued a secret agenda contrary to transparency.
(Definition – insidious cunning in attaining a goal; crafty or artful deception; duplicity; deceitfulness in speech or conduct, as by speaking or acting in two different ways to different people concerning the same matter; double-dealing. Synonyms – deceit, deception, dissimulation, fraud, hypocrisy, trickery. Constants - What you do speaks so loud; I cannot hear what you say. By their fruits ye shall know them.)

Hypocrisy: President and Mrs. Obama advocate for provident and responsible living for all Americans while they choose to live lavishly on the backs of the American people – citing the 16+ vacations costing taxpayers millions, and millions of dollars. It seems that the Obama’s find comfort in a “let them eat cake” mindset. Further, President Obama amazingly stated that sometimes he even forgets that Americans are suffering a recession; really? (see previous post here). President Obama’s attacks on American enterprise and private equity are unequaled and duplicitous at best; and yet, he has no qualms about ‘public equity’ wherein he invests America’s dollars into his ‘crony capital’ equity projects, i.e., Solyndra, Fisker and others - to what end? If given a choice of who I would trust with America’s dollars, it is Mitt Romney. Mitt Romney’s return on capital investment to his investors far surpasses anything President Obama could hope for, thankfully. President Obama’s failure to understand economics is irresponsible - he fails to understand simple economics, that in wealth creation, jobs are created - they are inextricably linked.
(Definition – a pretense of having a virtuous character, moral or religious beliefs or principles, etc., that one does not really possess. 2. a pretense of having some desirable or publicly approved attitude. Synonym – deceit. Constants - What you do speaks so loud; I cannot hear what you say. By their fruits ye shall know them.)

Indecisive: Throughout Barack Obama’s term as President he has and continues to vacillate on important decisions, even being pressed by his advisors on certain key decisions like pursuing Osama Bin Laden and others. Obama’s vacillation on the Arab Spring and other critical foreign policy matters has undermined America’s leadership position in the world; why else have we seen a diminishing of respect for America? Our President has not held constant to our core principles and values, and has undermined us by apology and subordination. When leadership and decisiveness were needed most critically at the beginning of his term, in dealing with our economy and domestic policy, he deferred to Congress (Pelosi and Reid) while opting for his ‘apology tour’. His lack of resolve on our deficit and spending has left us without, economically; his failure to be decisive is an unbridled failure of leadership and exposes his inexperience and incapacity to serve as POTUS. Never has one been so ill-prepared.
(Definition – characterized by indecision, as persons; irresolute; undecided. Synonyms – vacillating, hesitant, wavering. Constants - What you do speaks so loud; I cannot hear what you say. By their fruits ye shall know them.)

Most importantly - see the comparative illustrated below.

Thanks to Vic Lundquist for the link - this epitomizes the character comparative of pride vs humility/meekness. Like unto George Bush, Mitt Romney reflects humility.

Pride: With Obama, it is all about Obama! It doesn’t matter that the Navy SEALs took out Bin Laden, it was Obama who took credit. Is there anything he doesn’t take credit for, besides the economy which isn’t about him - it is Bush’s fault. Pride is a terrible disease and one of, if not the most destructive character traits an individual can aspire to, and is always preceded with the letter ‘I’. There is no letter ‘I’ in ‘we’. Contrarily, Mitt Romney, who has every basis for pride through his accomplishments, always defers to others and their successes.
(Definition - a high or inordinate opinion of one’s own dignity, importance, merit, or superiority, whether as cherished in the mind or as displayed in bearing, conduct, etc. the state or feeling of being proud. Synonyms - Pride, conceit, self-esteem, egotism, vanity, vainglory imply an unduly favorable idea of one’s own appearance, advantages, achievements, etc., and often apply to offensive characteristics. Pride is a lofty and often arrogant assumption of superiority in some respect: Pride must have a fall. Conceit implies an exaggerated estimate of one’s own abilities or attainments, together with pride: blinded by conceit. Self-esteem may imply an estimate of oneself that is higher than that held by others: a ridiculous self-esteem. Egotism implies an excessive preoccupation with oneself or with one’s own concerns, usually but not always accompanied by pride or conceit: His egotism blinded him to others’ difficulties. Vanity implies self-admiration and an excessive desire to be admired by others: His vanity was easily flattered. Vainglory, somewhat literary, implies an inordinate and therefore empty or unjustified pride: puffed up by vainglory. boast. Constants - What you do speaks so loud; I cannot hear what you say. By their fruits ye shall know them.)

A further comparative with Governor Romney will follow in a subsequent post, wherein we can compare with the same constants noted above.

A new book by David Parker

Obama: “Since I’ve Been President, Federal Spending Has Risen at Lowest Pace in Nearly 60 Years”

I confess - I thought this headline was a joke when I first saw it.

Nope - Obama really made that outlandish claim this week in Denver, Colorado.

Once again - anyone can fact-check him at www.gao.gov/financial.html…but spending was $3.4 trillion in 2009, $4.3 trillion in 2010, and $3.6 trillion in 2011. That’s an average of $3.7 trillion/year under Obama.

Even the unprecedented spending of George W. Bush (which averaged $2.7 trillion/year) pales in comparison to the Obama administration. This isn’t funny anymore - it is pathetic. I can’t believe I’ve even dignified such an outrageous Obama lie by responding. Americans should be livid.

I don’t even think someone as capable and qualified as Mitt Romney can fix the problems America will have if an Obama administration gets another four years of outrageous, reckless, and immoral spending.

What is Mitt’s approach? First of all, Mitt doesn’t lie about a dire situation. Here’s Mitt’s approach (straight from the horse’s mouth):

Getting our fiscal house in order has become more than just an economic issue; it’s a moral imperative. Every dollar of deficit spending must be borrowed, with the bill sent to our children to pay back. As president, Mitt Romney will ask a simple question about every federal program: Is it so important, so critical, that it is worth borrowing money from China to pay for it?” See more here.

This country cannot afford 4 more years with Obama at the helm.

UPDATE
Some are defending Obama’s remarks with the claim that 2009 is a “baseline” year from which we should measure Obama’s annual spending increases…and that because 2009 is such an inflated baseline year, Obama’s remarks ‘technically’ aren’t inaccurate. Those arguments are still a very misleading way to pass blame away from Obama for some of the most significant spending increases ever. There is a very good analysis by Dan Mitchell of the Cato Institute, which further analyzes this from multiple angles. I disagree with Mitchell’s exclusion of spending items such as interest, TARP, defense spending, etc. from a president’s spending record - I think these are all part of the hand a president is dealt…but Dan ultimately agrees that Obama’s tugboat is still pulling America in the wrong direction.

BROKEN PROMISES: Part One - Obama Promised to Cut the Deficit 6 Times

A new article on the website Buzzfeed by Andrew Kaczynski is great and I recommend all to read it. In the article, Kaczynski has video of 6 different times Obama promised to cut the national debt and reduce the deficit when he was campaigning for president in 2008.

This is a perfect example of the difference between Obama’s rhetoric on the campaign trail and his reality as president. Obama can talk the good talk, but all too often he can’t deliver on his promises.

When Obama took office, the national debt was 10.6 trillion dollars. Today it is currently 15.7 trillion.

The federal deficit, which is not the same as the national debt, shows that the amount of money the US government has to borrow year to year, has remained unchanged at extremely high levels. Much higher on average than the Bush years.

Here are Obama’s words when he ran for president in 2008:

1. Obama in 2008: “Adding $4 trillion to the debt is unpatriotic and irresponsible.”

2. Obama in 2008: “Everything we will do, we will pay for.”

3. Obama in 2008: “I will go through the budget line by line. Once the economic crisis is over we can’t go back to big spending.”

4. Obama in 2008: “We will streamline the budget and stop runaway spending.”

5. Obama in 2008: “We will cut through the budget line by line and cut programs that don’t work and make others work better.”

6. Obama in 2010: “We will cut the deficit in half by the end of my first term in office.”

Here are a couple of the videos:

Today’s discussion on Obama’s failure to reduce the deficit is Part One in a series of ongoing articles we will publish here on Mitt Romney Central. Each article will discuss one of the many promises President Obama has broken.

Update:
Here’s an ironic quote -

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies….. Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, “the buck stops here.” Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”

Romney Responds to Obama’s Three Year Budget Fail: “Extraordinary, Unfortunate” (radio interview)

Obama got a big ‘F’ smackdown on his budget plan - again. Fail.

On Wednesday, U.S. senators voted 99-0 to resoundingly defeat the president’s offering. In March, the House rejected his plan 414-0. That equals not a single vote of support.

Trounced:

Republicans forced the vote by offering the president’s plan on the Senate floor.

Democrats disputed that it was actually the president’s plan, arguing that the slim amendment didn’t actually match Mr. Obama’s budget document, which ran thousands of pages. But Republicans said they used all of the president’s numbers in the proposal, so it faithfully represented his plan.

Sen. Jeff Sessions, Alabama Republican, even challenged Democrats to point out any errors in the numbers and he would correct them — a challenge no Democrats took up.

“A stunning development for the president of the United States in his fourth year in office,” Mr. Sessions said of the unanimous opposition.

Amazingly, not one Senate Democrat has voted in favor of any budget for three years and they have not offered a plan of their own. Imagine that. For three years in a row, the federal government has operated WITHOUT A BUDGET.

On Hugh Hewitt’s national radio program last night, guest-hosts Guy Benson (Townhall) and Mary Katharine Ham (Townhall alum ) interviewed Governor Mitt Romney. Romney responded to Obama’s budget being bounced to the curb:

Guy Benson: Okay, Governor, last night, something extraordinary happened in the United States Senate. President Obama’s budget for the second consecutive year was defeated unanimously. This time around, it was 99-0. I’m curious what you think the implications of that vote are, and whether you see it as an indictment of this president’s leadership?

Mitt Romney: There’s no question in my view, Guy, but this is a underscoring of the president’s failure to lead. This is, after all, a body which is held by Democrats. If he wanted to see a budget passed, he should have worked with them. If they wanted to make adjustments, to make it more palatable, he should have found ways to make those adjustments. We’ve now gone on for three years without a federal budget? This is absolutely extraordinary. There’s not a business in this country that could operate the way the federal government is operating. And the fact that we have a president who is so inexperienced as a leader that he doesn’t know how to lead his own party, let alone reach across the aisle and work with Republicans, is a very unfortunate and potentially damaging element to our nation and to our economy. It’s something which I really think may well be unprecedented to have the president’s budget defeated in both the House and the Senate by unanimous votes. It’s very amazing.

GB: Right, right. It was 513-0 this year in those two bodies combined. You mentioned this failure over the last three years to have a federal budget, and this in an era of $16 trillion dollars of the national debt and growing. I know your campaign’s been spending a lot of time focusing on deficits and debt. So I really have to know, as you watch Europe, because the Euro Zone again is experiencing significant tremors this week. Greece appears to be teetering on the brink. I know the easy conservative talking point is to frame all of that, and the implosion of the European welfare state, as a cautionary tale for us here. But setting that aside, if you were president today, what would you be doing, what would you be watching over there, and how is it possible, if at all, for a president to help shield the U.S. economy from a potential damaging series of shock waves coming across the Atlantic Ocean?

MR: Well, when there is turbulence in industrial and financial markets, the best thing you can do is make America the place that people want to come both with their capital, with their innovations, with their business expansions. And so this is an opportunity for America to show that we have taken action that Europe did not take, that we have reformed our entitlements to make them solvent long term, that we are dealing with our budget crises, that we’re taking action to make America an attractive place for businesses and for job creators. This means that people will be looking to make investments elsewhere, and we want them to look towards us, not looking towards Asia, as in some cases they will be concerned about Europe. So the best thing we can do to help ourselves is to make America a more attractive place for enterprise. And unfortunately, what the president has done is make us less attractive as a place for enterprise, and he’s also failed to be willing to even address seriously either our entitlement crisis or our budget crisis. And so we will, if Europe goes through pains here, we’re going to suffer pains as well, in part because of the failure of this president to improve the attractiveness of America as a place for growth and investment and job creators.

In the 15 minute plum interview with Romney, the wide-ranging conversation not only included Obama’s failed budget, but included Jeremiah Wright, the Euro debt crisis, Biden’s hits on Bain Capitol, Obama’s personal assassination campaign strategy, and how Romney is approaching the task of selecting a vice president:
