AUDIO: Mitt Romney’s Remarks on the State of the Economy

Obama Isn't Working

Obama Isn’t Working

Mitt Romney released his weekly podcast on the most recent disappointing economic data, including a decline in household incomes, an increase in unemployment in 44 states, and the devastating impact President Obama’s policies are having on American families. The podcast is available each week on mittromney.com.

Here’s the text:

Hello, I’m Mitt Romney.

In 44 states last month, the unemployment rate went up. The heartbreaking problem of joblessness just got worse in 44 states.

In 44 states, it got harder for an unemployed dad to look his son in the eyes at the dinner table.

In 44 states, a young mother worried that her daughter won’t have the same opportunities as the other kids at school.

In 44 states, a man laid off in the middle of life laced up his best shoes, straightened his tie, and walked out the door to face another long day of hard stares, hard interviews, and hard disappointments.

Last month, more families were shattered, more hearts ached, and more children wondered if they’d ever see their parents smile again … because the hope of a recovery that should have been ours grew dimmer in 44 states.

In six states, people saw the unemployment rate go down or stay the same. But all Americans are hurting. Too many are living paycheck to paycheck. Just this week, we got the unbelievable news that household incomes fell even further during the so-called recovery than they did during the recession itself.

Anxiety has never been higher. Another new report out of Washington warns that higher unemployment and a double-dip recession will be a reality next year unless immediate steps are taken to avert what they’re calling a “fiscal cliff.”

In all 50 states, Americans are looking to the White House for leadership. But all they’re getting from their President is fear, frustration, and blame. Instead of uniting our nation in this time of crisis, President Obama has hit the campaign trail to declare “a stalemate in Washington.”

Think about that. With millions of Americans hurting like never before, the President has admitted defeat. With five months to go before his term his up, he’s saying he won’t even try anymore.

Isn’t this a devastating verdict on his own failure to lead?

I’ve led companies. I’ve overseen an Olympic Games. And I’ve governed a great American state. When people are telling you to give up, that’s when you find a way to try harder. When others are pointing fingers, that’s when you extend an open hand. And when Americans are hurting and families are falling apart, that’s when you put politics aside and find a way to get them some help. In a word, you Lead.

Look to Tampa. Two days from now, leaders from all across the country will gather to show Americans that help is on the way. For that father whose heart cries out for the dignity of work … for that child who needs a stable home … for that mid-career worker who just wants another chance, a better America can be more than just a hope. It can be our future. It must be our future.

THE RYAN FACTOR: Poll Shows Romney Up on Obama In Michigan After Selecting Paul Ryan as VP

The Paul Ryan Bump?

The most recent polling information from Michigan shows Romney leading by nearly four points over Obama. Michigan, a state that traditionally votes democratic in Presidential elections, is Mitt Romney’s home state.

The polling results seem to suggest that Romney has gained support in the state since the announcement of Paul Ryan as his running mate. Ryan is from neighboring Wisconsin, which may have been a factor in the uptick in Michigan support.

“Romney has identified a clear game changer if his strategy is to divide the Midwest and blow a bugle in President Obama’s Midwestern Strategy”, states Eric Foster, chief pollster and President of Foster McCollum White & Associates. “Romney may be attempting to isolate Illinois and Pennsylvania by having Michigan and Wisconsin in play. That also limited Obama’s opportunity to strengthen resource and advertising in Ohio and Indiana if Michigan and Wisconsin are competitive”.

In spite of national criticism of the Ryan selection and budget plan, our findings suggest that Michigan voters are viewing both as positives for Romney. 36.11% of Michigan voters are more likely to vote for Romney because of the Paul Ryan selection while only 27.90% are less likely to vote for Romney. That is a positive statistical advantage for Romney of 8.21 points or 29.42%.

The latest polling from Wisconsin also shows Romney edging out Obama in what is supposed to be Obama-safe territory. What do you think — is this a trend we’ll start seeing across the upper mid-west? Fingers crossed.

Tweet of the Day: Ruh-roh Obama… He Did Build That!

The WaPo has the story here:

Ross Murty likes business, but he doesn’t like President Obama.

And so the co-owner of the Village Corner Deli here agreed to cater Obama’s visit Wednesday — but not before donning a T-shirt blaring the message: “Government didn’t build my business. I did.”

It was a reference to a remark Obama made several weeks ago that his Republican opponent, Mitt Romney, has seized upon to portray Obama as anti-business. Obama, referring to the help government provides to businesses by building roads and providing education and other services, said, “If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that.”

I love this guy!

Poll Shows Romney-Ryan Ticket Making Huge Gains Among Young Voters as Paul Ryan Continues Ohio University Swing

Young Americans for Romney

As crowds gather at Miami University (Ryan’s Alma Mater) in Oxford, Ohio for a Victory event today with Paul Ryan, the campaign announces that America’s next Vice President will attend another rally at an Ohio university tomorrow.

The announcement comes as a new poll is showing Romney making big gains among young voters:

For the first time since he began running for president, Republican Mitt Romney has the support of over 40 percent of America’s youth vote, a troubling sign for President Obama who built his 2008 victory with the overwhelming support of younger, idealistic voters.

Pollster John Zogby of JZ Analytics told Secrets Tuesday that Romney received 41 percent in his weekend poll of 1,117 likely voters, for the first time crossing the 40 percent mark. What’s more, he said that Romney is the only Republican of those who competed in the primaries to score so high among 18-29 year olds.

“This is the first time I am seeing Romney’s numbers this high among 18-29 year olds,” said Zogby. “This could be trouble for Obama who needs every young voter he can get.”

With 50% of recent grad either unemployed or underemployed, it’s no surprise that younger voters are ditching Obama for someone who actually has a plan to create jobs for the next generation.

Tomorrow’s rally will take place at at Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio. The event begins at 9:30AM EDT — get more info and tickets to the event here.

PS: Rick Santorum is also in Ohio today stumping for the Romney-Ryan ticket. Thanks, Rick!
