Why Mitt “Wins the War”

PPP did a snap poll immediately after the debate tonight. The respondents scored it a slight lead for Obama at 53% to 42% (yeah, it was another +6% Democratic oversample and PPP is a democratic pollster … but I think that just strengthens my arguments). That 11% edge is smaller than the numbers Obama got in the 2nd debate, and MUCH smaller than the numbers Mitt received after the 1st debate. (FYI … CNN’s snap poll scored tonight’s debate it a bit closer at 48%-40% in favor of Obama).

That’s bad news then, right?!?! … that Romney didn’t “win” the debate? Not at all. Mitt continued to rise in the national and swing-state polls over the last week despite Obama’s “win” in the last debate. The last two days especially, Democrats have been shocked and are panicking that the President didn’t get a bounce in the polls from that.

Here’s the secret though … People’s judging of who “wins” debates is solely based on who is the most aggressive candidate that night. Snap polls showed that Joe Biden “won” the VP debate over Paul Ryan … but Biden turned off MANY voters with his style and condescension. Obama wasn’t as bad as Biden was, but his intimidating stares, his incessant attacks at Romney, and his petty condescension will NOT play well with undecided voters … especially with undecided women.

Don’t believe me? That same PPP poll linked above has the following interesting question and cross-tab.

“Did the debate tonight make you more or less likely to vote for BO/MR, or did it not make a difference?”

Among Independents for Obama: More likely 32%, Less likely 48%, No Difference 20% … for a net of MINUS 16%

Among Independents for Romney: More likely 47%, Less likely 35%, No Difference 18% … for a net of PLUS 12%

That’s a HUGE advantage among Independents for Romney based on TONIGHT’S debate. Yeah, Obama sure “won” tonight, eh? Team Romney is fighting to “Win The War” … and will take some lumps in individual battles to make sure the end goal occurs. He was confident, optimistic, and Presidential. Obama was petty, insulting, and snarky. Quite the contrast!

In the CNN snap poll mentioned above (which was a +4% D sample) asked:

“Who did the debate make you more likely to vote for?”
Romney 26%
Obama 25%

That is THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION IN THE POLL, really the only one that matters, and Mitt came out on top. Another interesting and important question from CNN:

“Who spent more time attacking his opponent?”
Barack Obama 68%
Mitt Romney 21%

Nothing happened tonight to blunt Mitt’s momentum. Obama was swinging for the fences, but failed to connect. Romney easily cleared the credible Commander-In-Chief bar and avoided ANY gaffes. His last few answers and rebuttals were awesome, and his closing statement was EPIC!

We need to work to help make sure it happens, but Mitt’s well on his way to winning this race. Romney has ALL the momentum, and that’s why Obama was attacking desperately. That alone was telling.

UPDATE 12:02 Central … Over at The Ace of Spades there’s an article “Romney Wins the War, Again” that looks like we copied one another. He published it 30 minutes earlier, but I swear I didn’t see it or steal his ideas. Maybe I’m ready to be a big shot blogger if we’re on the same wavelength like that, eh? :)

It’s pretty scary when an 8-year-old questions your honor.

It doesn’t matter who won the debate.
I think it was a brilliant strategy by Gov Romney for his softer approach on the final debate. If he was aggressive on the issue he could’ve been mistaken by undeciders, independents, as a warmoger. Obama whines!

Obama thinks the world is in a Kumbaya moment right now. He can’t tell in a straight face, the middle east, northern Africa is a better place than 4 years ago. Obama LIED again!

    Obama is not TRUSTWORTHY!!

I can’t stand these debates because I cannot stand the lying and arrogance of BO.

I’ll never listen to words of BO except as a news excerpt. Looking forward to that!

how do you know he’s lying if you don’t listen to him. and why doesn’t mitts lies matter to you?

Charles Krauthammer (FOX News): “It’s unequivocal. Romney won tactically and strategically.”

And, Jeff? You are ready to be a “big shot blogger” but we won’t let you out of your contract with MRC! :)

There was no doubt who was more presidential last night. Gov. Romney showed true leadership, composure, and class when debating. Debates are not just about substance, but how we “read and respond” to what we see. Gov. Romney hit every point that needed to be stated to speak to his base and more importantly the undecided voters. Pres. Obama was curt, condescending, and a bully. These are attributes that turn people off, especially women. Last night revealed character and course ahead. Neither one was evident by Obama. Gov. Romney saw the BIG picture for America and the world. Obama regurgitated his same old talking points of the last 4 years.
Gov. Romney is now on a solid path to being our next President. We would all be so proud and grateful to have a man like Gov. Romney lead us out of decline and onto the path of prosperity. This is what a REAL winner looks like.

The Obumster always say, “this is what we’ve done”, “this is exactly what we’re going to do”, “that’s what we need to do”. All I hear is a lot of talk. Talk with no fruit. Hence no substance and no meaning and no wonder we are still in this economic mess. It’s time we need somebody in the white house who just doesn’t talk, but works. That man is Mitt.

  9. Annette S says:

Romney laid out a solid connection between a strong economy and our national security. Without a strong economy we are looked upon as weak by other countries and we will lose our capacity to be an influence in the world. A prosperous economy makes peace through strength possible with a strong military.

Obama with his disdainful sneering looks at Romney, hit him with distorted taken out of context one liners. Romney looked presidential and drew the big pictures on matters of foreign policy which resonated. Obama went into detail and sometimes trailed off into a different subject. Romney was the clear winner of this debate!

    Romney/Ryan must win!!

  10. Jim Tills says:

Mitt won tonight’s debate hands down! He was always correct and truthful—just the opposite of Obama. The moderator did a decent job although he cut off Mitt’s rebuttal to an entire diatribe of lies Obama leveled before Mitt had a chance to correct the distortions and innuendoes Obama threw out. It didn’t matter that much that time because in the main, Mitt was able to rebut much of what was said before the moderator cut him off most of the evening. Mitt did an outstanding job.
I’m certain Obama was disappointed that Mitt didn’t bring up Libya because he probably spent a good bit of his prep time preparing to dismantle any attack he expected Mitt to bring against him on Libya and turn it into an Obama advantage somehow. The liberal media spent a good part of the six days between the last debate pointing out how Romney would attack Obama on this issue. It didn’t happen and that was brilliant execution on Mitt’s part.

What a giant of a man we have in Mitt with his Presidential bearing, intelligence, virtue, love of Country and mankind. He will prove to be as great or even greater than Reagan. As someone has said, the greatest candidate for President in our lifetime! Fourteen more days and he will win the Presidency in a landslide—provided the election is not stolen through fraud.

lol Jayde! I’ve been so erratic in my blogging that I’m surprised MRC hasn’t offered to buy out my contract! :)
