A Tribute to Ann Romney

Ann Romney was touched by the overwhelming cheers and applause she received as she prepared to speak at the Repubican National Convention in Tampa, Florida. Aug 27, 2012

Vigorously campaigning for Mitt and Paul Ryan, Ann Romney’s wonderful warmth, easy-going manner, sense of humor, courage, and compassion endeared her to throngs of Americans across the country.

When team Obama tried to land an uppercut by claiming Ann had never worked a day in her life, she turned them on their heads by defending her work to raise her five sons. Interestingly, I still read comments about the Romney household supposedly being filled with tons of servants and nannies. Before MRC is archived, I want to set the record straight – again. No. Ann Romney did the hard work, ran her own home, raised five great sons, served her community, and was also a magnificent First Lady of Massachusetts. Only after becoming ill with multiple sclerosis was it was determined that an individual to help with housecleaning a couple of times a month would be helpful.

Long-labeled her husband’s ‘secret weapon’ it was thrilling to watch amazing Ann’s popularity take flight throughout the whole campaign process. And that’s where it will remain. (That convention speech of hers… WOW.) She is the neighbor we’d like to know and the mom or sister or friend we’d like to have.

Ann Romney was and is a patriot.

This tribute is for you, Ann. Thank you so much for all you are. Thank you for the joy and hope you gave us along the campaign trail.

War on Women? Guest Post: Barbara Hiller Johnson

Barbara Johnson and her husband Mark Chapin Johnson are dear friends in California. Barbara is quite the satirist, but her Barbs are quite reflective, insightful and strike a chord that resonates with many Americans. She has a unique perspective on the ‘War on Women’! Enjoy.

Warning! All who are offended easily please be warned the contents of this material are written by a satirist.

What ‘War On Women’?

Yesterday I was feeling nostalgic so I started perusing old black and white family pictures from years gone by. I came across a photo of my mother in her late teens lined up with a group of her girlfriends all wearing miniskirts, shorts or pants in the style of the old Annette Funicello movies at a camp ground. You might say, ‘so what?’ Well, this picture was taken in the late 1950′s in Iran. This is the same country where today a woman at the very least would be arrested for such indecent clothing. You see, I hear every day from our President, while hopping from university to university, preaching about this ‘War on Women’, and I keep looking to see where this war is being waged. I could certainly understand if the opposition candidate was a Rick Santorum type, but it’s Mitt Romney! You know, the moderate from Massachusetts! I guess if you say it often enough it becomes fact and there are plenty of young and impressionable women who believe this guy when he says if he’s not re-elected they would forfeit 50 years of progress. Hmmm! I bet there are a few women in Iran who would jump at the opportunity of by passing Jimmy Carter’s foreign policy and go back to those easy days and I have no doubt there are plenty of women in Egypt that are now considering the option of what it might be like if Barry Obama had stopped supporting the Islamists in their country. It is so very difficult to listen to 20 year old college girls trying to scare someone like me about the perils of a Romney Presidency. The poor girls are so brain washed that most of their cells have turned dormant and refuse to process thought on their own. Somehow, their college professors, the media and all the so called women’s groups reached into this immature casing of hormones and emotion and filled it up with the ultimate Halloween boogie man.

I must say I am not the most tolerant person I know, especially when it comes to low forms of IQ in human form. So, you can just imagine how hard it must be to smile and try to put some sense into a mind of a young girl who has not yet had the opportunity to lift a finger to support herself. She has been fed, clothed and educated throughout the years without a moment of doubt that all will be provided for her. She has a cell phone with internet connection, an assortment of computers, all the cute and cuddly accessories of a college life, most likely in pink, and of course the tiniest little skirts assuring the attention of the opposite sex. She speaks passionately about the terrible possibilities of how we might all end up barefoot and pregnant with men in charge of every aspect of our lives. I listen and listen while she spews the Chicago mob machine’s talking points on how to get women’s votes. I’ve heard it all before. I heard it when a 30 year old female law student testified in front of Congress about how she needed her Catholic University to pay for her contraception. I heard it when all the overpaid starlets of Hollywood spoke at the Democratic National Convention. How does one even approach such an empty vessel? My grandfather used to say the worse curse on the planet is be stuck with dumb person, and here I am. Funny, no one paid for my birth control and somehow I managed, and funny how thirty years ago no one I knew complained about paying for services such as a college education and most of us worked, sometimes, at more than two jobs! It’s funny how we all took pride in our achievements and never expected handouts. In my day it was shameful to be on any form of welfare and that included your parents. Our motto was ‘Hear Me Roar!’ and sadly yours is ‘Give Me More!’

I’m not sure what you think you’re achieving for women these days. If it’s equal pay you should look at the White House for paying its women staff 18% less according to government data. If you’re looking for sexual equality, well, you win, I guess. My only conclusion from your level of whining and expectation is that you truly believe that you are not now, or ever will be; competent enough to take care of yourself and that you would need either your parents or the government to provide for your every whim. My generation fought for the freedom to be responsible for ourselves, to achieve as far as we could or wanted to achieve, to be in charge our destiny. I’m saddened to see your generation is about expectations to have others do for you. Who is enslaved with shackles now, you or me? It is interesting that when it came to voting for a woman to reach the White House more women voted for the good looking younger man. Even Oprah, the queen of women’s issues put aside her life’s work to choose color over gender.

So little girl, I feel sorry for you. Not because there might be a chance any real progress in opportunity for women will be thwarted in the future, but for the lack of pride and individual accomplishment I see in you today. We have had a right leaning Supreme Court for decades and there has been no reversal in any legal choices for women. If you survived the farthest to the right President, such as Bush, I have no doubt you can survive Mitt Romney who has only proven in deeds to be a fair and considerate human being. Frankly, I am horribly offended by your lack of respect for the true achievement my generation and ones before mine allowing you to be an independent individual with the right to choose your own destiny. To see all that hard work and sacrifice be squandered by the agenda of one incompetent political figure and his ability to brainwash you is very sad indeed. My dear, you are selling your soul to be at the mercy of a man after all!

Women Alert: Obama Stealing Their Children’s Future, Romney Will Save It

(photographer unknown)

SHOCK!

HORROR…

for the Obama campaign.

Women are coming out in droves to support Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan!

Just last month Obama was favored by women by 18 points over Romney.

Yesterday, Gallup polling showed a virtual tie between the two candidates among female voters in battleground states:

Romney – 48%

Obama – 49%

Recent polling from Pew shows a tie with 47% of women preferring Romney and 47% for Obama.

What caused the dramatic change?

For the first time in this presidential campaign, 70 million Americans were able to see Romney WITHOUT MEDIA FILTER at the first presidential debate in Denver, Colorado. Women did not see the monster Obama and his minions have spent millions to portray. What they did see was someone who DID understand their worries and concerns. Romney related to them. They saw a true, competent, understanding leader with decisive plans to improve America, their lives, and with plans to stop the mountain of debt that will be foisted upon their children.

Good news:

9:06PM EDT October 15, 2012 – WASHINGTON — Mitt Romney leads President Obama by four percentage points among likely voters in the nation’s top battlegrounds, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds, and he has growing enthusiasm among women to thank.

As the presidential campaign heads into its final weeks, the survey of voters in 12 crucial swing states finds female voters much more engaged in the election and increasingly concerned about the deficit and debt issues that favor Romney. The Republican nominee has pulled within one point of the president among women who are likely voters, 48%-49%, and leads by 8 points among men.

Team Obama today had a hissy fit out about left-leaning Gallup’s findings and tried to discredit the numbers. Richard Eichenberg, a Tufts University political scientist who is studying gender differences in state-level polling with Elizabeth Robinson, explains why:

“Romney’s improved standing among female voters is likely to cause major consternation among Obama supporters. If Mr. Romney has tied President Obama among women in swing states, then he has likely taken a step toward winning the election.”

(photographer unknown)

Obama’s false meme of a Republican War on Women? Romney has proven that FALSE. He cares deeply about the challenges women face and America’s children. Romney is closing the gender gap.

At tonight’s second presidential debate, expect to hear desperate droning from Obama on abortion and contraception.

Women are awakening to the fact Obama that Obama is stealing their children’s future. They are learning that Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan can pull America back from the brink and save the American Dream for their progeny.

Bring it home for us tonight, Governor Romney!

Romney’s New Ad ‘Melanie’: She Believed Obama’s Promises. Got PRANKED.

Back in 2008, when then-Senator Barack Obama and all his charismatic aura swept onto the national stage as a candidate for President of the United States, he promised a lot of things. Among them, he loudly, proudly, proclaimed he’d bring the USA back to prosperity. Melanie McNamara believed in him. He convinced her. Like many, she voted for him. Three and a half years later, Obama has UNconvinced her.

Obama’s proclamations were prattle.

Melanie McNamara got PRANKED.

Now, Melanie wants to MAKE SURE America’s economy is growing again.

Melanie is voting for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.

Today, Romney for President released a new television advertisement titled “Melanie.”

“In 2008, I voted for Barack Obama. He doesn’t have my vote this time.

Why Mitt Romney? Being a woman, you think about your children and you think about their future. And what I want to think about is a future that has jobs. That our economy’s growing again. That’s important to women and it’s important to me.” – Melanie McNamara

The nearly incomprehensible national debt, over SIXTEEN TRILLION DOLLARS and racing, is a HUGE issue for women. Women are appalled that the back-breaking, crippling, immoral national debt will fall upon the young shoulders of the ones they sacrifice so much for – their children. The next generation will absolutely be clobbered with the crushing responsibility to repay the massive dollars borrowed and squandered by crony-concerned, devil-may-care, back-slapping, unaccountable politicians on Capitol Hill. Obama is chief among them. He’s recklessly added more debt than the first 41 presidents combined.

Let’s take a stroll down memory lane…

Back in 2008, when Obama was finagling for the presidency, he ecstatically pinned the ‘unpatriotic, irresponsible’ label on President George W. Bush for his enlargement of the national debt:

“The problem is, is that the way Bush has done it over the last eight years is to take out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children, driving up our national debt from $5 trillion for the first 42 presidents – #43 added $4 trillion by his lonesome, so that we now have over $9 trillion of debt that we are going to have to pay back — $30,000 for every man, woman and child. That’s irresponsible. It’s unpatriotic. – Barack Obama, July 3, 2008

Once ensconced in the Oval Office, Obama put on his heretofore unknown amnesia hat; you know, the one that conveniently makes him forget his promises and do the complete opposite of what he pledged. He couldn’t wait to get his redistributive hands on Uncle Sam’s credit card. Obama couldn’t spend (and waste) fast enough – roughly $6 trillion in 3.5 years.

Townhall’s Guy Benson adds: Romney Ad – Newborn Infants Now Owe $50,000 Toward National Debt:

[E]very “man, woman and child” now owes over $51,000. Obama’s unanimously-rejected budget would explodes that debt by $11 trillion …(more!) over the next decade. So much for his promises to thoroughly examine federal spending “line by line” to achieve a “net spending cut” while slicing the deficit in half by now. It’s almost as if he just says whatever he thinks will help get him elected, then does whatever he pleases once in office. This must stop. Mitt Romney’s new television ad, entitled “Dear Daughter,” makes the issue of inter-generational theft and reckless government spending very personal:

And, what have Obama’s policies done for women? Another ad from Team Romney/Ryan:

Obama’s policies are making it harder on women.

The poverty rate for women is the highest it has been in 17 years.

Over 5.5 million women are unemployed and their individual share of debt is over $50,000.

Fellow Americans, if you truly care about your children’s future, you must reject Barack Obama and Joe Biden. It’s okay to let them go. Don’t let them continue to steal the future from America’s children. You must vote for the two men who know how to get our economy going again, with rising salaries, and who will work with all their might to lower, not increase, our national debt.

Picture of The Day: Women for Romney Making Calls

P.S. War on Women… Really?!

President Obama’s ‘Closer’ Came Out of the Bullpen Too Early

I love baseball. I love the strategy employed by managers to attempt to control every facet of the game. I love it when things work out in their favor thinking that somehow their decision to pitch their ace right hander against the pinch hitter that hits .106 against righties works out in their favor. Maybe I just like having the odds in my favor.

Leland Bruce

I recall as an aspiring Little League all-star my father taking me out to the school yard daily to throw painted hard balls at me and command that I scream the color of the paint as I swung at his mighty fastball. Try having a dad that is 6’6” and throws a fastball at 80 mph at you when you are still finger painting in 4th period and have feelings of exhilaration for 6th period Spelling Bee’s. Talk about strategy! My dad was just putting the numbers in his favor to ensure that his son could hit a fastball. Excellent execution of a flawless strategy except for the night sweats that I have had for the past 40 years as I see orange, red and blue colored Rawlings hardballs flying past my head while my feet are cemented into the batter’s box!

Yes, I love baseball because one of the key concepts in baseball is to keep your eye on the ball. This artful concept works in politics as well, but since campaign managers wish to employ strategy to control the outcome of the game, oftentimes we are led to take our eye off of the ball. President Obama and his legion of campaign managers, media hacks and public puppet followers are doing all within their power to divert our eyes from the ball and maintain our focus on the pretty new uniforms, the front office, the visiting team and most of all ‘free cap’ night. Free caps for everyone! Hey, that guy has 2 caps! Give me one of yours! Pay your Fair Share! But I bought this one with my own money yells the capitalist fan. Your money is my money comes the reply.

I realize that I am 5,500 miles from home plate, but I cannot believe what I read on print media and what I hear on news outlets. Talk about taking your eye off the ball. Bain Capital? Hey Axelrod, get that one out on our news outlets and see if it sticks. Sorry Barry but Bill Clinton just praised the private equity industry! If that’s his ploy for Hillary 2016 I’ll have his head he screams from Honeywell. OK, retraction, Bill just said you will win by a landslide…. Ann Romney’s blouse? Governor Romney’s record as Governor? The Republican war on women? Dog vacations? 50 year old high school pranks? Willard Romney’s birth certificate? Donald Trump visits? Pay your fair share? Romney doesn’t relate to the middle class? I have eaten cotton candy at the ballpark before but the hyperbole spewing forth from these minions has more air and artificial syrup in it than you could fit into the San Onofre nuclear power plant. Don’t say nuclear Jay Carney, the Left hates that word. I cannot wait for the religious barbs, the man is too handsome, he was a draft dodger, his boys served “Mormon” missions, Ann doesn’t work (Oops, already floated that one and got slammed…… “I know three Hilary Rosen’s; to which do you refer” says Jay Carney… Seriously Mr. President, you didn’t see that question coming?). Mark my words, these curve balls will be forthcoming and will not strike home. Unfortunately for Mr. Obama, the Romney camp and most Americans have their eye on the ball. And I don’t really care what color that Rawlings is painted or how fast it is hurling toward home plate. The message on the ball is simple:

The Economy.

I have to hand it to the Obama administration. They play smart. When your middle relief pitching breaks down you have got to go to your closer and put strategy back in your favor. For those of you who don’t know, this administration only has one closer. It’s called the Bureau of Labor Statistics (“BLS”) and this supposed non-partisan group holds in large part the future of Sir Debt Accumulator in their hands. You see it’s this group that produces the unemployment figures every month as we all anxiously hold our breath to see what falsified number they will actually produce. Unfortunately for Team Obama, the BLS has been more like Mitch Williams of the 90’s as a closer than Mariano Rivera of the 00’s. And much like Rivera’s torn ACL which will impact the Yankees run for the pennant this year, the BLS could become Obama’s Achilles Heel before November. Not that he hasn’t tried to pay off the umpires, hide sandpaper in his mitt (wow what a play on words) or pray for a rain out because he has. Well, maybe not the pray part because he usually golfs on Sundays. Sorry I digress. But yes it’s true, the BLS has been warming up in the bull pen for the past several months and you can bank on the idea that Team Obama will give them the ball at the end of the game. It’s really the only way that they have any chance to win the game. Let me explain…. (more…)

What Hilary Rosen Meant Was Just as Bad

Unless you’ve been under a rock for a week, you’ve heard about Hilary Rosen’s comments Ann Romney didn’t “work a day in her life,” and the firestorm that started.

Ms. Rosen certainly stepped in it. But this post is not about the words she chose. Others have written plenty on that topic. My problem is with what she was really trying to say, which was just as bad, or worse.

Ms. Rosen was unartfully trying to say that because Ann has not held a paid job, or in other words because Ann is wealthy, Ann has no credibility to speak on economic issues. This is wrong. It’s anti-American and undemocratic.

Mitt has been attacked with comments he is “out of touch,” or that he (and now Ann) can’t understand people because of their wealth, or the insupportable statement that he somehow “isn’t connecting.” I could trot out numerous examples of how Mitt’s words have been taken out of context to try and make the point he’s one of “them,” not one of “us,” or, in OWS lingo, part of the one percent.

All of these attacks are meant to create and perpetuate a culture of blame, an us vs. them mentality and to divide us based on our economic circumstances. As pointed out by our own David Parker in another post tonight, they are certainly not in the spirit of Barack Obama’s promise to go above partisan politics as usual and the politics of division. The American dream to me, and I believe to the entire GOP, is that all people should have an opportunity to make of themselves what they will. To point at someone like Ann Romney and tear her down because she is fortunate enough to have had success is clearly what Ms. Rosen was trying to do, and it is just plain wrong. I’m offended because Ms. Rosen’s words try to solidify that economic divide solely to keep a Democrat in the White House. Her comments were mean spirited and misguided. There is no hope in them, only, I believe, a knowing mis-representation intended to solicit the support of the poor, who, ironically, are in the situation they’re in due to President Obama’s failed economic policies.

Mitt has said it very well: if you vilify success, you’ll have less of it. The left has been vilifying Mitt’s success since he started in order to shift the blame from their own failed policies and solidify their hold on power. This just cannot stand.

With those thoughts in mind, here are my top ten reasons why what Ms. Rosen meant was just as bad as what she said: (more…)

Ann Romney / Hilary Rosen: Mommy Wars Day 2 (Cavuto VIDEO: Not Easy For Ann)

Day 2…

When I first heard Democrat adviser Hilary’ Rosen’s comments about Ann Romney, I felt the same as FOX News’ Dana Perino when she heard the news: “Holy cow! This is going to explode!”

It was full-time work yesterday posting updates on the “Ann Romney never worked a day in her life” tempest (and, what I posted was a fraction of the day’s news). With such a hot potato, I also knew political cartoonists would be sketching into the night.

They didn’t disappoint.

Samples of their creativity are interspersed amongst food for thought…

Townhall -The Left’s War on Women is Actually a War on Families
By Demetrius Minor
April 13, 2012

Thanks to liberal Democrat Hilary Rosen’s vicious attack on Ann Romney claiming that she has never had a “real job”, the conservative base of the GOP is now united in one front, to call out liberalism. Ann Romney, mother of 5 boys and a survivor of multiple sclerosis and breast cancer, is a testament to the many mothers who made the selfless service of putting their families first.

This goes beyond attacking the wife of a presidential candidate. This is a vile attack on conservative women nationwide.
[...]
President Obama wants to vocalize his support for women, but the facts say otherwise. Women employees at the White House make 18 percent less of the median salary as do male employees. According to Amy Sullivan of TIME Magazine, the Obama administration is described as a “boy’s club” and suggested that the president has a woman problem. It is reported that senior women staffers are seen and not heard during policy meetings.

It is an outrage that lefties attack women instead of having a constructive dialogue about the core issues affecting Americans today. The REAL war on women is the economic plight that they are experiencing due to big government spending, high unemployment rate, a raking deficit and a President who is opposed to job creation that will benefit many women in the U.S. today.

USA TODAY - Hilary Rosen says Ann Romney never worked ‘day in her life’
By Jackie Kucinich and Martha T. Moore
April 12, 2012

To Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List, which supports candidates who oppose abortion and endorsed Romney on Thursday, Rosen’s comment is one of “a thousand cuts” that will alienate women. “Each cut doesn’t necessarily draw blood, but over a long period of time” it will hurt Democratic candidates with female voters, she said.

Would Hilary Rosen Have Criticized Stay-at-Home Dads as Never Having Worked?
By Rabbi Shmuley Boteach
April 13, 2012

A 2008 US Census publication puts the number of married fathers who work in the home as their children’s primary caregivers at approximately 140,000. Now, would Rosen have said the same thing about these men, that they never worked a single day in their lives, or would she, as have so many others, praised them for their maternal role in putting their children first? Would she have lauded their ability to get beyond the traditional macho-man role and prioritizing their family even before their careers? So if Rosen is going to rail against a war against women, then let’s agree that a gender bias that praises men who put their kids first but punishes women for the same is an unfair assault in that battle.

Christian Science MonitorAnn Romney and Hilary Rosen flap …
By Linda Feldmann
April 13, 2012

According to the latest census data, about 1 in 4 women with children under 15 is not working outside the home. That is a significant voting bloc – and most aren’t wealthy like Ann Romney. Mrs. Romney herself noted on Thursday that she has had struggles of her own, particularly with her health.

In addition, Mrs. Romney has carved out an image as an appealing surrogate for her husband, complete with stories about how exhausting it was to raise five boys. Polls show her favorability rating far exceeds her negatives.

So for Obama, the Rosen comment created a PR emergency on multiple levels: She had disrespected a big voting bloc and had gone after a candidate’s wife. Team Obama pushed the panic button.

“I don’t have a lot of patience for commentary about the spouses of political candidates,” the president said.

[S]he [Rosen] has sparked a “mommy wars” discussion that continued to rage Friday.

Another Left-Wing Hilary Mouths Off
By Monica Crowley (FOX News contributor, Washington Times columnist)
April 12, 2012

Ann Romney, by the way, managed to raise 5 well-adjusted sons, none of whom have been in jail or rehab. Now if that’s not a job, I don’t know what is. And she raised these 5 normal, high-achieving sons while battling MS and breast cancer. She is superwoman. But to Rosen and Team Obama, she’s someone to be targeted, polarized, mocked and humiliated. Or so they thought.

This comment and the ensuing backlash may have reversed all of the gains the Dems made with their phony “Republican war on women,” as more and more women realize that it’s the Democrats ACTUALLY waging that war.

This IS the Left. They run on identity politics: class, race, gender. They clump us in groups, because groups are more easily controllable and because individuals are so unwieldy with those silly minds of their own. The Left is also a bunch of elitist, arrogant, dismissive, power-hungry snobs who believe that they need ever-more power and ever-more of your money because you can’t manage either. And oh yeah: they have utter contempt for traditional America and the values we hold dear.

Ladies—and gentlemen—start your engines. As of today: game on.

Before addressing the NRA today, Governor Romney introduced Ann: “I happen to believe that all moms are working moms…”

DNC Adviser Hilary Rosen Insults Ann Romney, Ann’s Rapid-Fire Response – UPDATES

This incident has caused a media and Twittersphere firestorm! Click on link at the bottom of this article for updates.

Hilary Rosen

They don’t waste any time, do they?

A few months ago, a rancid Democrat plan to “kill Romney” reared its repulsive head. Now, after Governor Romney’s first full day of getting into general campaigning, we’re getting a stinky whiff of their plans for Ann Romney.

On Wednesday evening, Democrat operative/CNN political contributor Hilary Rosen spoke with CNN’s Anderson Cooper. She mockingly snarked about Ann Romney:

“Guess what? His wife [Ann Romney] has never actually worked a day in her life.”

Did you catch Rosen’s accusation that Mitt Romney is “old-fashioned when it comes to women. He just doesn’t see us as equals.” Did you also notice Paul Begala’s nod of approval and big grin when his cohort delivered the talking points? Really, I’m laughing so hard as I type this. What a sorry, ridiculous duo – spouting off ridiculous rhetoric to hide Obama’s sorry economy and ridiculous federal debt. See Vic’s article.

Setting her work record straight, Ann Romney, mother of FIVE boys, grandmother to 16 grandchildren, church, charity, and community volunteer, former Massachusetts First Lady, breast-cancer survivor, and valiant handler of Multiple Sclerosis, fired off her first campaign tweet:

Good natured Ann is garnering high praise for her down-to-earth ability to connect with voters. Because he was losing ground with female voters, Obama operatives have been taking notes. Regarding Ann, think about it: Obama is leading a class war on successful Americans, combine that with a leftist faction that dislikes political Republican women, throw into the mix some Democrats’ disdain for working-at-home mothers and they see fresh meat to attack – on three fronts. Ann is a triple-threat.

Byron York, Chief Political Corespondent (Washington Examiner) and FOX News Contributor jumped on it:

After insult, Romney hits back with lightning speed

. . . Within seconds, Rosen’s statement that Ann Romney has “never worked a day in her life” began to burn up Twitter. Mrs. Romney, after all, had raised five children, as well as dealt with MS and cancer. That was work, no matter how much money her husband made.

The Romney campaign jumped on Rosen’s remarks with a speed that no Republican campaign has shown in the past. First, campaign staffers sent out tweets hitting Rosen. “Obama adviser Hilary Rosen goes on CNN to debut their new ‘kill Ann’ strategy, and in the process insults hard-working moms,” said top Romney adviser Eric Fehrnstrom. The campaign then sent out word that Rosen, who has worked for the Democratic National Committee and other Democratic organizations, is now part of the same firm, SKDKnickerbocker, as Anita Dunn, a prominent member of the Obama circle. And then came word that Rosen had visited the White House at least 35 times, according to publicly-available White House visitors logs. And then that Rosen attended last month’s state dinner at the White House.

Sensing an opportunity, the Romney campaign rolled out the big guns and had Ann Romney, who had never sent out a message on Twitter before, send out her first: “I made a choice to stay home and raise five boys. Believe me, it was hard work.” Mrs. Romney quickly had thousands of followers.

Obama machine scrambles:

The story really took off when Obama campaign officials scrambled to distance themselves from Rosen. Obama campaign manager Jim Messina tweeted: “I could not disagree with Hilary Rosen any more strongly. Her comments were wrong and family should be off limits. She should apologize.” Top Obama aide David Axelrod added, “Also disappointed in Hilary Rosen’s comments about Ann Romney. They were inappropriate and offensive.”

Rosen back-tracked but she didn’t back down. Of course not; she’s a messenger – with a dumb message.

York was impressed:

. . . Presented with an opening, Romney’s staff jumped on the controversy with impressive speed, forcing top Obama officials to respond before most people even knew there was a story. The fracas suggests that Team Romney is determined to aggressively — really aggressively — pursue any chance to press an advantage against Obama. If the president’s re-election team thought they were facing a slow-moving, not-up-to-the-task Republican rival, they learned differently Wednesday night.

UPDATE - Since joining Twitter last night, around 10:19 AM PT Ann Romney reached 20,000 followers.

Excellent article from Townhall’s Carol Platt Liebau (hat tip to Hugh Hewitt):

Yes, yes, we know that the President is working hard to consolidate support among female voters — but Obama adviser Hilary Rosen’s remarks about Ann Romney “never work[ing] a day in her life” are cynical, shameful, appalling, divisive and above all . . . ignorant. They constitute the newest iteration of the long-running, ugly and gratuitous left-wing attack on women who have made the very important choice to stay home in order to raise their children themselves.
