Which Convention was “strange, full of insults”? Romney Weighs In (Baier Interview – VIDEO)

Well, they’re over.

In an attempt to woo voters, Republicans and Democrats have put their best convention feet forward.

After just the first day of the Republican National Convention (a full day of activity was cancelled due to developing storm Isaac), Obama’s top adviser Robert Gibbs characterized the GOP gathering as “angry” and “strange” and “full of insults. His remarks must have been festering in a folded paper in his hip pocket for weeks; he was pretty pleased to grab a few headlines. What Gibbs wrote turned out to be a prognostication of his own party’s convention goings-on a few days later in Charlotte, NC…

In spite of the sensitive and well-handled Republican convention storm adaptations, some rabble-rousing Democrats called for a cancellation of the entire convention. But, once the Democratic National Convention got underway a few days later, there was no reference from speakers of Hurricane Isaac or helping the victims.

Our President’s re-election insecurity prompted a ‘save-me’ call to former president Bill Clinton. Team O thought he was needed to take center-stage to plaster some pizazz over Obama’s putrid economy. Yes, that Bill Clinton who once called Obama “the chief executor of good intentions” and formerly said of Obama “A few years ago, this guy would have been carrying our bags.” Yikes. Clinton jumped at the chance to appear be a team player while visions of Hillary in the White House (and himself) danced in his head.

Obama, in spite of doing his best to rattle the rafters, delivered a flat, warmed-over class-warfare speech we’ve numbingly heard before. Maybe knowing the jobs report numbers that were to be released today messed with his head.

ADDENDUM - A comment on Michelle Obama’s speech: One got the feeling Mrs. O spent a month of Sundays at studied speech practice in front of her ‘make-up’ mirror getting those inserted smiles and practiced pauses just right. The drama… Her “Obama hunched over his desk” (hunched – mind you!) poring over letters from people having a hard go in this hardship economy (no mention of Obama’s part in it) was that which made listening to her barely tolerable. But, the cake-taker for me was her affected stammers – meant to pepper following prose with dramatic sincerity but only highlighting insincerity – that relegated her to the category of ‘First Lady Duping-The-Folks Academy Award’. She laid it on too, too thick. Charles Krauthammer thought so, too:

Most brilliantly manipulative:

Michelle Obama, by three touchdowns. Beautifully structured, delivered with studied emotion — the feigned stammer to render natural a finely written telepromptered text was a touch of genius — she made the case for why her husband governed as he has.

Because he cares. He loves his wife, loves his children, loves his family — therefore he loves you. The syllogism, a total non sequitur, was laid on with panache.

It worked. She managed to drain her husband’s entire first term of any hint of ideological or personal motivation. He is driven by his caring, giving soul — not by a deeply felt ideology developed in youth: redistributionist, government-centered, disdainful of success, committed to his social-democratic view of social justice.

Only a wife can turn a ruthlessly ambitious pol, who undid the Clintons four years ago and today relentlessly demonizes Romney, into a care bear. She pulled it off.

Read more here and here.

How about that floor flight spectacle over including “Jerusalem” and “God” in their platform?! They actually BOOED God. Plus, those numerous, hissing references to Republicans as Nazis were a turn-off and deeply insulting to those who have actually endured Nazism.

Don’t forget the featured steel worker who claimed he worked for Bain Capitol. He embellished his story against Bain by stating he lost his job when the Bain-controlled company GST steel filed for bankruptcy in the early 1990s. A big LIE.

In the end, Democrats tried to razzle-dazzle with actresses and musicians James Taylor, Mary J. Blige, and the Foo Fighters. An array of liberal speakers brought forth a parade of theatrical over-the-top rhetoric, misrepresentations, and outright lies about Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan. (Did you know Republicans are plotting to take the vote away from women? And, will do all within their power to stop women from using contraceptives? NOT.) Did you happen to catch former MI Governor Jennifer Granholm’s meltdown?

It was a circus of slander.

Mr. Gibbs, YOUR convention was angry, full of insults, and very strange.

FOX New’s Bret Baier caught up with Mitt Romney today in Sioux City, Iowa to ask him about Obama’s acceptance speech last night, today’s jobs report, repeated false claims he didn’t care about the American auto industry, doesn’t care about the U.S. military, and more:

UPDATE – Another Romney interview with FOX News’ Carl Cameron:

► With only 96,000 jobs created in August (down from 141,000 jobs in July), Obama’s hoped-for convention re-gilding isn’t going to happen:

The economy created only 96,000 jobs in August, the unemployment rate remains above 8 percent, and more than 350,000 Americans have dropped out of the work force. While some may focus on the jobs that were created last month, this jobs report is nothing but horrendous. I welcome any jobs, but American workers giving up on employment in the weakest recovery since the Great Depression is cause for alarm, not celebration.

The unemployment rate has not fallen below 8 percent for the past 43 months. The labor force participation rate is at the lowest level in 31 years. If the labor force participation rate were at the same level it was before the recession started, the unemployment rate would be 11.6 percent today. And the rate of “underemployment” or “real unemployment,” including the unemployed, those who want work but have stopped searching in this economy, and those who are forced to work part-time because they cannot find full-time employment is actually at 14.7 percent. We’re still experiencing a significant jobs crisis, whether President Obama recognizes it or not.

President Obama’s policies of more spending, more debt and more taxes haven’t worked. It’s way past time for a course correction. The country needs responsible leadership, not the President’s boasts over anemic growth and unending pleas for patience. Americans are looking for a sustained and real recovery. This weak report is nowhere near enough, and this has gone on long enough. Any real jobs plan must stop the regulatory madness and avert the fiscal cliff of tax increases on January 1. The health care law is yet another drag on the economy. Small businesses need tax relief and regulatory certainty to grow and hire.

What about the numbers of those Obama has been systematically slipping onto disability rolls after their unemployment benefits run out? Once on disability? Most always ON disability for life. Also, the Dept. of Labor today did what they usually do; they revised down the job numbers for the two previous months, resulting in 41,000 fewer jobs created than originally reported.

The way Obama opted to defend his record of failure today demeaned himself. Speaking at a rally, this is what he said on Romney, Ryan, and Republicans: “Tax cuts, tax cuts, gut some regulations, oh, and more tax cuts. Tax cuts when times are good, tax cuts when times are bad. Tax cuts to help you lose a few extra pounds. Tax cuts to improve your love life. It’ll cure anything, according to them.”

A few cheap laughs for a failed president.

Let’s turn that around, Obama: “Tax increases, tax increases, inflict more regulations, oh, and more spending increases. Tax increases when times are good, tax increases when times are bad. Spending increases to help you lose a few extra pounds. Tax increases to improve your love life. It’ll cure anything.”

Obama’s got nothin’. The middle class, small businesses, and the one in six Americans who have slipped into poverty are especially fed up. That’s why his manipulative oratory in Charlotte did not include a word about the USA’s staggering, almost incomprehensible debt of over $16 TRILLION and the 47 million Americans who, under his watch, now put groceries on the table with food stamps.

Paul Ryan: Obama like “a ship trying to sail on yesterday’s wind”

We are going to win!

What about Congressman Ryan’s speech last night? My favorite line from his speech came when he was describing how President Obama’s presidency has been all about talk and no results and then he said, “It is like a ship trying to sail on yesterday’s wind.” His speech was filled with outstanding truths that were delivered, as Krauthammer said, with “lethal precision.”

President Obama, trying to sail on yesterday’s wind

Many discussions in which I have been engaged lately, people often say something like, “I don’t know if Obama can be beat. Do you think we have a chance?” The pessimistic observation is based in part on the clear understanding that Mr. Obama has the mainstream media in his back pocket, along with all the resources of incumbency at his disposal.

Remember that Newsweek front cover of President Obama with the title, “HIT THE ROAD, BARACK — Why We Need a New President” from 10 days ago? Well, Wayne Allyn Root wrote a piece for FoxNews.com right after the Newsweek release titled, “What if the mainstream media told the truth?” in which he posits a compelling thesis: That nobody wants to be on a losing team and certainly nobody wants to be predicting an Obama win in November and find out his prediction was horribly wrong. The entire article is outstanding. Here are some excerpts:

Is it possible the mainstream media is finally starting to grasp what I predicted 3 months ago — that Obama will lose in a landslide? The first domino has fallen. Ultra-left Newsweek’s cover story on Monday features a photo of Obama and the headline: “Hit the Road Barack, Why We Need a New President.”

My, how the mighty have fallen. As the mainstream media realizes that Obama will not only lose, but lose big, I predict this will be the first of many negative headlines for Obama. No one likes to bet on a lame horse.

Why the change of heart? The latest Gallup poll has Romney up by 2 points. That’s before the GOP Convention. Rasmussen has had Romney up by 3 to 4 points most days for a solid month. Rasmussen also has Romney winning Indiana, North Carolina, Florida and dead even in Wisconsin (all states Obama won in 2008).

Obama is in deep trouble and that’s before America gets to see Paul Ryan debate Joe Biden, and realizes that Biden is a worn-out union hack with no knowledge of facts whatsoever.

What if the members of the liberal media actually tries playing fair and balanced and telling the truth?

Here is what they’d report:

If the mainstream media told the truth, instead of harping on Romney’s “Female Gap” they’d report on Obama’s “Male Gap,” “White Gap,” “Senior Gap,” “Christian Gap,” and “Military Veteran Gap.” Obama is sinking fast with all these important voting groups. Romney is winning by landslide margins with them all. Obama loses the male vote by as much, or more, than he wins among females. Funny how the liberal media never mentions that?

If the media told the truth, they’d challenge Obama’s lies that his bailout of GM and Chrysler is a model of success. In reality, they are a model of disaster — a $25 billion loss for the American taxpayer. If the media told the truth, they’d report that the much of the $25 billion went to pay off auto unions that contributed heavily to Obama, while stealing bondholder’s entire investment. They’d also report that while Obama used taxpayer money to make whole every pension for every union member of GM and Chrysler, he let the pensions of non-union autoworkers go bankrupt. If the media thinks this is success, I’ve got a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn.

If the media told the truth, they’d report that Obama is the first president in modern history to never pass a budget. How many Americans have heard that Obama’s most recent budget was voted down 99-0 in the US Senate? Obama’s budget was so ridiculous that every single Democrat voted against it. I guess the media just forgot about that.

If the media told the truth, they’d call Vice President Joe Biden a racist and “gutter politician” for telling a primarily black audience that the GOP plan is “to put y’all back in chains.” Cutting spending is hardly akin to slavery. The truth the media should report is that putting American taxpayers over $5 trillion more in debt in only 3 1/2 years is enslaving our children and grandchildren to a lower quality of life. But the media has been careful not to mention that form of slavery.

If the media told the truth, they’d report that Paul Ryan’s plan reforms Medicare and saves it for future generations, with no change for anyone over 55, while President Obama has stolen $716 million from Medicare to pay for ObamaCare, with no plan whatsoever to save this debt-ridden, out-of-control program.

They’d also report that Obama’s massive January tax increase raises taxes on dividends and interest to levels not seen in decades. Seniors live off investment income, interest, and dividends. With Obama cutting their income many seniors will lose their homes and retirement income. If the media told the truth they would report “this guy Obama clearly hates old people.”

Liberal feminists often call men “verbally abusive.” If the media told the truth, they’d report that Obama is the “Verbally Abusive President.” His never-ending punching bags are small business owners and the rich. His off-TelePrompter rants such as “You didn’t build that;” “The private sector is doing fine;” and “We want to spread the wealth around” demonstrate Obama’s total economic incompetence and lack of understanding that America’s business owners provide the jobs and taxes that pays for government.
[...]
If the media told the truth, they’d report Obama is “the Bribery President.” Free contraception to women…amnesty through Executive Order to young Hispanics…advertising campaigns in Mexico to inform illegals in the United States that they qualify for food stamps…creating an Office of African American Education. Every day comes a new bribe to Obama’s voters, all within weeks of the election. Yet the media is silent. They are like Sgt. Shultz of the “Hogan’s Heroes” television series: “I saw nothing! I heard nothing.”
[...]
My advice to the national media: Newsweek did it. You can do it too. Break your Obama addiction. The truth will set you free! More importantly, it will set America free!

Well a guy can dream, can’t he?

[emphasis added]

In the last 10 days, I have noticed several subtle changes in mainstream media delivery. Last Sunday for instance, The Los Angeles Times published a front page article that was very positive revealing a number of stories of service performed behind the scenes by Mitt Romney — I almost tripped on my front porch as I began reading from this liberal newspaper! We all know that MSNBC cherishes its last place in cable TV (viewership) and will never come around, but I have noticed many positive comments coming from the networks and CNN as of late, even prior to the RNC Convention. Have you noticed articles from the MSM that are referring to President Obama in terms of “would’ve” or “could’ve” or “should’ve”? I have seen many like that. The MSM is paving the way to beg off Mr. Obama.

Mr. Root’s dream may be coming true!

Bush Tax Cuts Set to Cease, Teetering Economy at Further Risk

Bigger taxes are coming! Bigger taxes are coming!

Unless Americans usher a new Congress into office this fall, Obama’s redistribute-the-wealth-bankrupt-America agenda will likely smother our wheezing jobless economic recovery. The Bush tax cuts breathe their last at midnight on December 31, 2010:

The Tax Tsunami On The Horizon

Fiscal Policy: Many voters are looking forward to 2011, hoping a new Congress will put the country back on the right track. But unless something’s done soon, the new year will also come with a raft of tax hikes — including a return of the death tax — that will be real killers.

Through the end of this year, the federal estate tax rate is zero — thanks to the package of broad-based tax cuts that President Bush pushed through to get the economy going earlier in the decade.

But as of midnight Dec. 31, the death tax returns — at a rate of 55% on estates of $1 million or more. The effect this will have on hospital life-support systems is already a matter of conjecture.

Resurrection of the death tax, however, isn’t the only tax problem that will be ushered in Jan. 1. Many other cuts from the Bush administration are set to disappear and a new set of taxes will materialize. And it’s not just the rich who will pay.

The lowest bracket for the personal income tax, for instance, moves up 50% — to 15% from 10%. The next lowest bracket — 25% — will rise to 28%, and the old 28% bracket will be 31%. At the higher end, the 33% bracket is pushed to 36% and the 35% bracket becomes 39.6%.

But the damage doesn’t stop there.

The marriage penalty also makes a comeback, and the capital gains tax will jump 33% — to 20% from 15%. The tax on dividends will go all the way from 15% to 39.6% — a 164% increase.

Both the cap-gains and dividend taxes will go up further in 2013 as the health care reform adds a 3.8% Medicare levy for individuals making more than $200,000 a year and joint filers making more than $250,000. Other tax hikes include: halving the child tax credit to $500 from $1,000 and fixing the standard deduction for couples at the same level as it is for single filers.

Letting the Bush cuts expire will cost taxpayers $115 billion next year alone, according to the Congressional Budget Office, and $2.6 trillion through 2020.

A few other areas where tax changes will occur include: The Medicine Cabinet Tax, HSA Withdrawal Tax Hikes, Brand Name Drug Tax, Economic Substance Doctrine, and the widening net of Alternative Minimum Tax – tax hikes on employers and the loss of deductions for tuition. Behind Capitol Hill doors, some progressives have a gleam in their eyes for the Value Added Tax (VAT) which is especially common throughout the European Union. VAT would give Obama the boost to herald a solution for America’s deficit while allowing him to implement invisible capitalistic destruction.

A VAT is a sales tax imposed on every level of a product’s path from production to consumption. It already exists in Europe and many other struggling countries around the world. It’s a sneaky sucker, too, since it’s essentially built in ahead of time and doesn’t show up on a receipt like a sales tax would. If a VAT were in place that iPad you just bought would be $600 instead of $500.

A VAT would pull in massive revenues. Just think: a 10% VAT would produce 1 trillion in revenues. Cash register sounds go off in the minds of every leftist that hears it.
Obama and the Democrats are spending SO much that they’ll be forced to invoke a VAT. They are creating a crisis so that they can solve it with a mechanism that will serve as the catalyst for future spending on their massive government programs.

And even though our president said he wouldn’t raise taxes on 95% of Americans while he was on the campaign trail, this move would raise taxes on everyone.
[…]
What Obama will say is that he is putting together a commission to find a way to pay down our country’s maxed out credit card.

Expect that commission to recommend the VAT tax after the 2010 midterm elections. By then, we’ll be on the verge of Greece-like catastrophe and we’ll have no choice but to impose a VAT. But only one that will, coincidentally, go into effect after the 2012 presidential election.

Just yesterday Timothy Geithner quashed hopes of a Bush tax cut extension:

Mr. Geithner said there is “still some uncertainty about how strong the recovery is going to be,” which may be impacting spending decisions by businesses and individuals. But he discounted that as a reason to extend the Bush-era tax cuts for top earners, saying most private forecasts show moderate economic growth and increasing public confidence in the recovery.

Meanwhile, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke is warning of unusual economic uncertainty.

No wonder Poll numbers for Obama are slippery sliding into the rocks; 27% of the nation’s voters strongly approve of his presidential performance and 44% strongly disapprove. Obama has a Presidential Approval Index rating of -17.  More and more of his supporters are beginning to feel like this (go full screen and crank up your speakers):

“The Democratic Party is obsessed with spending more, borrowing more, and taxing more, all of which sap our national strength. ~Mitt Romney

Keeping in mind that the real prize is what happens in 2012, we must not underestimate Obama. Let’s do all we can to help Americans find what they’re looking for!

Conservative victory 2010. Mitt Romney 2012.
