Mitt Talking Points

For those of us talking to friends about why Mitt over Obama, I thought I’d compile a few talking points:

1. National Debt.

national debt

–Obama has significantly added to our now $16 trillion in national debt and has had over $1 trillion in deficits in each of his four years, after promises to cut deficit in half. Obama still has no plan, unless you count the glossy photo brochure with re-tread unfulfilled promises from 2008. Romney / Ryan do have a plan.

2. Bipartisanship.

–Mitt has been a model of bi-partisanship, which will be needed to reduce the deficit. Obama has blamed a GOP Congress for his failures.

3. Mitt’s a Model of Success.

–Mitt’s business, personal and government life are models of success. He’s actually done what Obama has promised: balanced budgets, turned broken enterprises around. Obama can’t seem to get past his own pride.

4. Four More Years?

–We have experienced 4 years of Obama. To expect better the 2d term is, by definition, insane. He knows he can’t change Washington from the outside.

5. Historically Low Employment.

–3.5 years of unemployment over 8%. If people hadn’t left workforce unemployment today would be over 10%.

6. Obama’s Work Ethic.

–Obama seems to show up about half the time (famously missing security briefings, unbelievable number of golf games). Mitt is already preparing just in case he wins the election, so he’ll be ready to hit the ground running.

7. Obamacare.

–This is our last chance to unwind Obamacare. Otherwise all the taxes, future healthcare rationing, lack of doctors and other problems will be permanent.

8. Supreme Court.

–Between 2 and 3 Supreme Court justices are likely to retire during the next 4 years, a liberal, a conservative and a swing justice. The next president will likely stack the court for a generation, either right or left.

9. Mitt Has a Plan.

–Mitt has a 5 point plan for economic success, Obama only attacks Mitt; does not have a real plan. Mitt’s plan: expand energy, build workers’ skills, cut deficit, focus on small business, promote fair trade. Obama’s: raise taxes, keep spending.

10. Stuff Obama Says (Odd Priorities; Egotism).

–Stuff Obama says: 4 deaths in Libya were a “bump in the road.” “If you have a small business, you didn’t build that.” Conservatives cling to guns and religion. He tells the Des Moines Register he has a plan to deal with immigration but wants to keep it off the record. Telling the Russian president he’ll have more flexibility when he doesn’t face re-election. I could go on.

11. Newspaper Endorsements.

–Reno Gazette Journal and a slew of other papers just endorsed Mitt.

12. Weak Foreign Policy.

–Obama’s foreign policy isn’t working; projecting an image of weakness has invited attack. First US ambassador to be killed in 30 years after security assistance was requested; the White House was alerted but did nothing while a drone watched. Stories out of the administration were inconsistent for weeks.

13. Twelve Million Jobs.

–Mitt has promised to create 12 million jobs in his first term.

14. President Biden?

–If anything happens to Obama, Joe Biden would be president.

I know there are others. My imagination tends to wane in the wee hours of the night. Add to comments what your talking points are…

OPINION: Romney Enhanced His Role as Credible Alternative to Obama – On Style and Substance

“Obama came back swinging,” was Wolf Blitzer’s outburst as the debate concluded. As a matter of fact, Obama was indeed there; he actually showed up. Problem is, it was the same exact Obama that has been president for the past four years.

Romney stayed on course in presenting the facts about Obama and his record, and even pulled a Newt when confronting the moderator in getting a fair share of time to respond. Under no circumstances did Romney allow Obama to run away from his record.

In my opinion, if the first debate was a game changer, the second simply was a game maintainer. If Romney had to win the first debate to remain relevant as a candidate, Obama had to win big this time, in overcoming the arguments about his bad record, and successfully portray Romney as worse than him or at least get Romney to stumble and shift in defense mode. That didn’t happen. Obama came back scoring a few political points and added some fuel to his unenthusiastic campaign. But, Romney won on style, looking presidential, and at the same time hitting the President over his record, and boy, was that a long list.

The post-debate CNN poll of debate viewers felt Obama edged out Romney in the 2nd debate with 46% to Romney’s 39%. But, they expressed greater confidence in Romney’s ability to lead, especially on the economy.

Romney enhanced his role as an effective alternative to President Barack Obama.

In Record Fashion, Obama Burns His Cash

Obama spends his campaign money like he spends taxpayer money…

A common maxim in politics is that you can see how well a candidate will manage the economy by observing how they manage their campaign expenses.

Here is the story from the New York Times:

President Obama has spent more campaign cash more quickly than any incumbent in recent history . . .

The price tag: about $400 million from the beginning of last year to June 30 this year, according to a New York Times analysis of Federal Election Commission records, including $86 million on advertising.

With less than a month to go before the national party conventions begin, the president’s once commanding cash advantage has evaporated, leaving Mitt Romney and the Republican National Committee with about $25 million more cash on hand than the Democrats as of the beginning of July.

And with August a traditionally slow month for fund-raising, Mr. Obama has bombarded his supporters in recent weeks with increasingly urgent pleas for money, mindful that he will need to drastically raise his cash intake in the coming months merely to equal his record-breaking haul from 2008.

“My upcoming birthday next week could be the last one I celebrate as president of the United States, but that’s not up to me — it’s up to you,” Mr. Obama wrote last week as the campaign’s latest fund-raising deadline and his Aug. 4 birthday approached. “This July deadline is our most urgent yet, coming after two consecutive months of being significantly outraised by Romney and the Republicans.”

Mr. Obama’s heavy expenditures — and his campaign’s pressure on bundlers to find and groom new donors — have stirred worries among other Democrats, who have long taken Mr. Obama’s financial supremacy for granted.

There are a couple of key take-home messages from this article.

1. Obama is setting records for spending so much money so quickly.

2. Obama will be the first sitting president in history to be out-raised by his rival.

3. Obama will unlikely match his fundraising numbers from his 2008 campaign.

4. Obama’s pleading for campaign donations signals real desperation from the Obama team.

5. There is a serious image problem of a president so desperate that he is pleading for cash.

BOOM! Romney Refutes Obama’s LITANY of LIES (Felon?!) New Ad

New lows from Obama…

Deceptions once lobbed through Obama’s presidential peashooter are now coming fast and furiously through misinformation missiles – aimed at Mitt Romney.

Remember Obama’s Scheme Team memo last summer to kill Mitt Romney? They weren’t kidding. Here are the latest character assassination slams from Obama’s lie launchers…

Slam! Today we’re hearing from Nancy Pelosi and liberal talking heads that Governor Romney engaged in race baiting yesterday while speaking to the NAACP. (The avalanche of positive reviews for that speech has obviously rattled them.)

Slam! Now Romney could be a criminal. Yes, we could be supporting a felon! (*eye-roll*) From lie-launcher Stephanie Cutter (Obama Deputy Campaign Manager):

In a conference call with reporters this morning, the Obama campaign focused on this morning’s Boston Globe story arguing that Mitt Romney remained at Bain through 2002. The Romney campaign has called the story “not accurate.”

“Either Mitt Romney, through his own words and his own signature, was misrepresenting his position at Bain to the SEC, which is a felony, or he was misrepresenting his position at Bain to the American people to avoid responsibility for some of the consequences of his investment,” Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter asserted.

“If he was lying to the American people,” she added. “then that’s a real character and trust issue that the American people need to take very seriously.”

“If he’s legally responsible for everything that happened inside those Bain deals, seems to me that he’s also politically responsible for the consequences of those deals in terms of people losing their jobs, losing their pensions and their health care, and American jobs being shipped overseas,” she said.

Slam! Cutter also reiterated the too-stupid-for-words claim that Governor Romney is the most secretive presidential candidate since Richard Nixon. Another attempt to define The Gov by invoking a name attached with great scandal… Yes, the Obama lie launchers have obviously memorized the Alinsky playbook.

Slam! In pre-emptive worminess to negate positive press coming Romney’s way from his attendance at the summer Olympics in London in a couple of weeks, Cutter tried to get some bang with this one:

Cutter also took a swipe at his work related to the 2002 Olympics, commenting that Romney’s Olympic record was “less than wholesome, shall we say, in terms of the decisions that were made there, the contracts that were signed, and the basic operation of how Mitt Romney ran the Olympics.”

Slam! Obama’s lie-launchers are not giving up on the Romney is an outsourcer meme, either.

Yes, Ms. Cutter. LYING is a real character and trust issue the American people need to take very seriously. The fact that you and your boss are deceiving America IS BEING TAKEN VERY SERIOUSLY. So, stand back liars! Romney and team are firing back with explosions of TRUTH…

BOOM!

In a conference call Monday morning, senior staff said Romney’s surrogates would stop shying away from the word “lie” in responding to Democrats’ attacks on his business record, and plan to go on TV to call Obama a “liar,” the source said.

They are very fed up with these attacks,” said the source.

To spread the message, the source said, the campaign is going to start circulating a document to press that compiles “presidential falsehoods and exaggerations.”

BOOM!

Misleading, unfair, and untrue… Romney For President today released a new ad titled ‘No Evidence’:

Get the all the facts here.

BOOM!

Two days ago Team Romney shared this: The Truth Hurts.

BOOM!

The Romney press shop today released ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER OBAMA CAMPAIGN FALSEHOOD:

“The Obama campaign must think Mitt Romney is Superman. He was, in reality, rescuing the Olympics by working in Utah 24/7 for the years the Obama campaign also alleges he was running Bain Capital. Even though the Obama campaign may be wrong about his involvement in Bain Capital, it shows that even they can admit Mitt Romney is a great leader.”Former Governor John Sununu

Today, The Obama Campaign Launched Even More False Attacks On Governor Romney’s Business Career:

Today, The Obama Campaign Falsely Alleged That Governor Romney Was Managing Bain Capital After February 1999. “The Obama campaign said a Boston Globe report Thursday proves Mitt Romney hasn’t been truthful about when he left Bain Capital. The Globe story cites SEC filings to prove Romney stayed on as head of Bain Capital after 1999.” (Pema Levy, “Obama Camp: Romney ‘Wasn’t Telling The Truth’,” Talking Points Memo, 7/12/12)

Multiple Non-Partisan Fact Checkers Have Already Confirmed Mitt Romney Left Bain Capital When He Actually Did – In February 1999:

“The Massachusetts-Based Firm Notes That Romney Retired More Than 13 Years Ago.” (Steve Peoples, “Bain Capital Defends Record In Light Of Criticism,” The Associated Press, 5/16/12)

**Updated** Romney Breaks Republican Record – $106.1 million in June

The Romney campaign just announced having raised with the RNC, $106.1 million for the month of June. Having outraised the Obama campaign in May by $17 million, it will be interesting to see how the Obama campaign does in June. According to the Romney campaign, most of the monies raised came from new donors with states coast to coast out-performing their targets. A clear message that there is dissatisfaction with the status quo, and that Mitt Romney is trusted to turn around the economy.

Key facts:
$106.1 million raised
94% of all donations received in June were under $250
$22.3 million raised in June by donations under $250
536,729 donations received were under $250
$160 million cash on hand

Obama’s campaign is conspicuous by their absence!

UPDATE BY LUKE: Reports say that the Obama campaign has raised $71 million in June, $35 million below Mitt Romney’s stellar performance. Ouch. AND, HOW MUCH ON HAND?

Obama’s Methodical Mud Slinging – Now It’s Bain Capital ● New Romney Ad

These are serious times for America.

Every time we pass a home foreclosure sign, pull up to the gas pump, grab a grocery cart, or grapple with monthly bills, we’re gut-punched with the worst economic recovery since the Great Depression.

Polls show approval for America’s gutter-sliding direction is way down.

That rattles Obama.

The Obama economy is not a winning referendum and many a ‘time we’ve seen how adoration loss sends the President and buddies into a tizzy.

Obama and operatives are digging deep. Their politicking has turned into a mud grab and they’re pelting fast and furiously at Mitt Romney.

Which conjured-up fetid glob will stick? A ridiculous hit job report about a 50-year-old incident that allegedly took place when Romney was a teenager? Romney hates dogs? Romney is waging war on women? His wife never worked a day in her life? She’s like Hitler? Greedy, out-of-touch, corporate raider Romney?

The latest slime comes in the form of a new Obama ad portraying Romney at Bain Capital as a job-destroying vampire. It’s the first attack on Romney’s business record:

The ad, at the unusual length of two minutes, will run in five battleground states—Iowa, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Colorado—and is part of a larger $25 million, monthlong ad campaign. Republican officials tracking the ad buy said the Obama team was only airing the two-minute spot on Wednesday in the five states. The ad was expected to air during the evening news and direct viewers to an Obama website about Romney’s economic record and a longer, six-minute version of the ad appearing online.

The commercial will be coupled with a series of events Obama’s campaign is holding this week in Florida, Missouri, Iowa, Nevada and North Carolina to highlight Romney’s role at Bain Capital, a company he co-founded. Deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter said in a call with reporters that Obama’s team would highlight Romney’s Bain record “during next few weeks.”

Surprise! The ad is not accurate:

That picture is not accurate, as Mike Flynn reports today in an article on Breitbart.com. Bain Capital shut down GST Steel in 2001, two years after Mitt Romney left the company to accept the job as CEO of the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Flynn reports the key decision-maker at Bain Capital, when GST Steel was closed, was Jonathan Lavine. Lavine is an Obama supporter and bundler who raised more than $100,000 for the president’s reelection campaign. Lavine started working for Bain in 1993.

Even Steve Rattner, former Obama adviser, says Obama’s new ad is sludge:

It [Bain Capital] did it superbly well, acting within the rules, acting very responsibly, and was a leading firm,” Rattner noted. “I do think to pick out an example of somebody who lost their job, unfortunately, this is part of capitalism, this is part of life. And I don’t think there’s anything Bain Capital did that they need to be embarrassed about.”

The ad cost around $83,000. If the mud ball sticks, Team Obama will buy more air time (dip into some of that $15 million Hollywood/George Clooney money).

Romney’s campaign welcomes the attention on jobs:

“Mitt Romney helped create more jobs in his private sector experience and more jobs as governor of Massachusetts than President Obama has for the entire nation,” Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul said in a statement.

Romney for President blocked the Obama gunk with a new web video ‘American Dream’:

The investment that Mitt Romney and others made in Steel Dynamics helped to grow the company and create jobs. For the workers of Steel Dynamics, this is a perfect example of the American Dream.

A mud bomb thrown today is so lame it plopped on the thrower’s shoes even as it was flung from his hand:

“Romney wants to create the illusion that somehow his experience equips him to lead the economy but there’s nothing about the record that would support that.” – David Axelrod, Obama campaign Senior Adviser

Thanks for the belly laugh, Axelrod!

In an interview with Newsmax TV, Ed Conard, a former Bain Capital business partner with Governor Romney, says Romney has a “deep understanding” of the economy:

Mitt Romney understands how the economy works and he is ready to focus on long-term growth by encouraging private investment in innovation, author Ed Conard told Newsmax TV.

Conard, a former partner in Romney’s Bain Capital, is the author of “Unintended Consequences: Why Everything You’ve Been Told About the Economy Is Wrong.” In the book, he argues that the Obama administration has discouraged risk-taking, with the result that the economic recovery is stuck at a snail’s pace.

He told Newsmax TV the Obama administration has discouraged investment by trying to penalize the wealthy and successful.

Conard continues:

“They threatened all the successful risk-takers with much higher taxes,” he said.

Romney, on the other hand, is an experienced businessman who knows how to look at the big picture, said Conard. He praised Romney’s leadership skills at Bain.

He made tough decisions when he had to make tough decisions. And he always made them with the highest level of integrity, which was aiming at what is the most valuable in the long run,” Conard said.

Conard comments on liberals’ view of the economy:

…[L]iberals still see the economy as it was back in the 1950s, not as it is now. And the current reality, he says, is that people with big ideas need investors with deep pockets.

The people who need to take risks are the most talented people in the economy,” he said. “People who have a lot of equity have to start underwriting risk with that equity.”

He said conservatives, unlike liberals, understand the importance of equity. “We don’t want to take that equity, redistribute and consume it.

Conrad said Romney is an extraordinary executive:

“He has a deep understanding of business. He has a deep understanding of the economy. He had one objective, and that was to dig down and find the truth. … He worked hard to build consensus…”

Obama would be thrilled if we forgot he was a drug-using, Bill Ayers-fraternizing, community organizing, ‘present’-voting, now school record-hiding, trillions in debt-amassing, triple AAA rating-losing, illegal immigrant-excusing, un-read bill-passing, foreign leader-bowing, “I’ll get back to you Medvedev-ing”, crony-capitalizing, cornhusker kick-backing, class envy-stoking, job-losing, food stamp-increasing, opponent donor name-publishing, vacation-taking Golfer-in-Chief.

Mud slinging is Obama’s only defense.

Mitt Romney believes in the American Dream and is uniquely qualified to keep it alive.

That rattles Obama.

Spin, Spin… Let’s Get Real! Defeat Obama For His Record

Once again, President Obama leads from behind. Vice President Joe Biden (the first major decision Obama made before being elected) committed the ‘oopsie’ by spilling the beans on same-sex marriage. And boy, this guy does not stop making gaffes, speaking his mind out of the blue, and creating some serious trouble for the President. Biden forced the President to do what he basically knows best – react.

Not that Obama took a dramatic turn, or as reported, evolved on the issue of same sex marriage. As Buzzfeed reports, Obama had the same position in 1996, before he opposed it in 2008. My observation is that Obama will do anything possible to energize the base, to get liberals out to vote, by diverting the conversation and taking a lead on some issue that matters to them as an ideology but not as a mainstream, citizen-caring theme.

Mitt Romney successfully defeated his primary rivals largely by running a disciplined campaign centering around a dominating issue – the state of the economy. Romney’s strength against Obama is his ability to draw a sharp contrast with the President’s experience on job creation, the economy, and operating the federal government. Americans are mostly concerned with jobs and the economy.

Obama ain’t dumb; he’s at least as clever as me. Obama and his campaign observed over the past month the President’s eroding support among key elements and voting blocs (which contributed to his 2008 victory). The only way out was to avoid defending his record and go on offense – to portray his opponent as out of touch and energize the Obama base by giving them the needed red meat.

As brilliant as they might be, for every trap Messina and Axelrod set for Romney, he avoided them. And the only spin that seems to work or at least pick up traction is the same sex marriage issue. (Social issues handed Bush a second term.)

Romney and we Republicans must not fall into same-sex marriage trap. (Obama tried to rally his supporters by spiking the Osama Bin Laden football and it didn’t work.) Why help Obama unite his base, which in my eyes is more fractured than the GOP base? Look at what happened with Judd’s 42% in West Virginia’s primary and the 200K votes against the President in North Carolina.

We must continue to examine and hammer Obama’s record, not his evolving positions or fresh baked promises. Obama is the incumbent who must pay the price for not leading this country in the right direction. And only if we draw that sharp contrast on fiscal issues and appeal to the broader suffering base will we be able to carry that message through to November and replace the Obama administration for good.

We should not debate Obama’s every whim.

What Do Obama, Gingrich & Santorum Have in Common? They Fear Romney and Are Willing to Spread Lies to Defeat Him

Santorum, Gingrich, And Obama Are Launching False Attacks:

The accusers ignore facts

National Review: “The Obama Administration Is Driving Conscience Violations As Mandated Policy Whereas Romney Vetoed A Bill That Would Require Catholic Hospitals To Provide Abortifacient Drugs.” “A Boston Globe sub-headline this morning declares: Mitt Romney’s ‘’05 contraception stance similar to Obama’s now.’ Except that the Obama administration is driving conscience violations as mandated policy whereas Romney vetoed a bill that would require Catholic hospitals to provide abortifacient drugs. Of course, as governor of Massachusetts, he vetoed the bill without a lot of support for his position — and his veto was overturned. That’s quite different than the overreaching attack on religious liberty the Obama administration is driving. It’s also a reminder of how crucial it is to support leaders when they’re trying to do the right thing, as Romney was at the time. (Komen this week comes to mind.)” (Kathryn Jean Lopez, National Review Online, 2/3/12)

Gingrich Is “Mischaracterizing Romney’s Record.” “Newt Gingrich had his debate moment or two helping to clarify the danger our religious liberty is in in America today. But he only added to the confusion when he started mischaracterizing Romney’s record here.” (Kathryn Jean Lopez, National Review Online, 2/3/12)

The Washington Post Rated Santorum And Gingrich’s Attacks As Having “Significant Omissions And/Or Exaggerations.” “[It] is a stretch for Santorum and Gingrich to claim he demanded this shift or imposed this on hospitals, in what they characterize as an attack on religion.” (Glenn Kessler, “Romney And Plan B: The Santorum And Gingrich Claims,” The Washington Post, 2/8/12)

________________________________________________________________________________________

Ambassador Mary Ann Glendon comes out to bat for Mitt:

The charge that Mitt Romney has not stood tall to defend freedom of religion is preposterous. The truth is that Mitt Romney has been fighting assaults on religious freedom for a long time, and at moments and in places where it was not popular, to say the least.

When Catholic Charities in Massachusetts was being forced out of the adoption business because they were trying to provide adoption services for needy children while staying true to their beliefs, it was Governor Mitt Romney who stood shoulder to shoulder with the Catholic Church and filed a bill to protect religious liberty.

It was precisely for his courageous efforts in defense of religious freedom that the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty awarded him its prestigious Canterbury Medal in 2008.

At this moment when religious liberty is under attack from many quarters, people of all faiths won’t find a more ardent or effective advocate than Mitt Romney. He has shown backbone on every critical issue at every juncture when it counted.

Ambassador Mary Ann Glendon is the Founder of Women Affirming Life and Chair of the Board of the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty as well as the Canterbury Medal recipient in 2003.

Mitt Romney Most Popular Among Tea Partiers; Outpolls Palin, Gingrich and Huckabee Among This Group

A new Pew Research Poll finds Mitt Romney has support of a plurality of Tea Party members:

“Twenty four percent of Tea Party backers have named the former Massachusetts Governor as the number one choice as a potential GOP presidential contender, the New York Daily News reports.

Romney beat out Tea Party favorites by double digits; Ron Paul received 13 percent and Palin received 12 percent. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee garnered 19 percent of the Tea Partiers’ support, while former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich received 15 percent.”

This is consistent with previous polls measuring which potential 2012 candidates tea partiers support. An earlier Mitt Romney Central article, “Who Says Tea Partiers Don’t Support Mitt Romney?!“, points out that the former Governor of Massachusetts has consistently had strong support of Tea Party members.

Lets do a quick poll review. Last September, a McClatchy poll showed favorable numbers for Romney among Tea Party supporters on a national level:

Voters who call themselves conservative preferred Romney to Palin. So did self-described supporters of the tea party movement; 25 percent preferred Romney and 19 percent Palin.”

A Marist poll (released November 2010) shows Romney edging out potential rivals with 19% of Tea Party support, compared to Huckabee’s 17% and Palin’s 16%, respectively.

Finally, a  New Hampshire poll also indicates strong Tea Party support for Mitt Romney:

“In a new WMUR poll, [Romney's] favorability among supporters of the Tea Party is strikingly high – 77 percent and far exceeds any other [potential] candidate.

Romney’s fiscal message of reducing taxes and cutting spending resonates with Tea Party philosophy.

Among New Hampshire Tea Party supporters, Romney’s favorability numbers were far higher than even candidates who are viewed as closely aligned with the movement, such as Sarah Palin, Ron Paul, and Newt Gingrich.”

The Washington Post explains that Mitt Romney is gaining support across the wide spectrum of conservatives:

“The Pew poll comes less than two weeks after a Washington Post/ABC News survey showed Romney running strong among the party’s conservatives; more than seven in 10 Republicans who described themselves as “very” conservative had a favorable opinion of Romney.

“In the Pew survey, Romney’s numbers are not only strong among tea party types but across the board. He took 20 percent among self-identified conservatives — tied with Huckabee for first — and 23 percent among moderate-to-liberal GOPers. The only group where Romney lagged even slightly was among white evangelical Protestants, where he received 15 percent to Huckabee’s 29 percemt

The Pew and Post results — coming so close to one another — seem to make clear that Romney, who has largely been cast as an establishment pick, has wider reach within the party than first imagined. It’s not entirely clear where Romney’s power among tea party activists originates, although his strong fiscal conservatism likely endears him to that bloc of voters.”

Romney is the ideal candidate for conservatives, moderates, independents, tea partiers and even those liberals concerned about the fiscal health of our nation. They know he has experience in lifting companies out of debt. More importantly, they know he pulled Massachusetts out of debt.

When Gov Romney took office in 2003, he faced a massive deficit of approximately $3 billion. However, he was able to balance the state budget for each year of his administration by implementing a mixture of aggressive reduction in the size and cost of government, along with bold strategies to spur economic growth.

By 2005, Romney created a budget surplus of $1 billion and by the time he left office in 2007, Massachusetts had a $2 billion surplus.

To shed greater light on Romney’s record, one would have to understand what happened to Massachusetts after he left. The picture isn’t very pretty; Governor Patrick Deval has squandered the Romney surplus. Massachusetts is now back in debt with a $1 billion state deficit and faces a potential 1.5 or 2 billion dollar deficit. What’s even more amazing is that Governor Deval has been receiving $7 billion in federal stimulus funds for the last two years. By the time this summer arrives, the $2 billion in debt Duval has racked up will have grown back to the same level of debt before Romney became Governor of MA.

The fact that Romney created a $2 billion surplus for Massachusetts which was tucked in between two episodes of major debt creation demonstrates that Romney was a unique leader in MA’s financial history. The comparison/contrast shows how capable and effective Romney is.

Romney’s amazing record of reining in government debt is just one indisputable reason why Tea Partiers support him.
