The Detroit News Joins a Host of Powerful Names in Michigan to Endorse Mitt Romney

Mitt Romney picked up the endorsement of the largest right-leaning newspaper in Michigan this morning. The Detroit News joins the Oakland Press as major newspapers endorsing Gov. Romney here in Michigan.

Gov. Romney has garnered a few other endorsements that are having a greater impact than the media realizes. This about this: In 2010, Michigan had a heated primary for Governor which consisted of 4 major candidates. ALL 4 candidates are supporting Gov. Romney. Pete Hoekstra is running for Senate, so he and Mitt have decided to stay away from public endorsements, but behind-the-scenes, they couldn’t be closer. They even go so far as to allow each other’s campaigns to pass items out at each other’s events. Gov. Rick Snyder has endorsed Mitt, Lt. Governor Brian Calley, AG Bill Schuette, Mike Cox, and Mike Bouchard who were the other two main competitors in the Michigan GOP Governor Primary. I’ve never seen such a strong consolidation of support here in Michigan before. It’s basically unanimous among all the top republicans in Michigan that Mitt Romney is the only choice for Michigan voters.

One campaign strategy that has served the campaign amazingly well are the tele-townhalls he and Ann have participated in. Here is the audio of one of those calls. The campaign has run one or two of these calls all week and last week, and people are loving them so much more than the robo-calls.

Somebody in his campaign today must have mustered the courage to finally take Mr. Gingrich aside and tell him about this little website called Intrade (I believe that person still works for the campaign). Intrade has him winning Iowa at a probability of 0.9% today (margin of error?). And to be the Republican nominee? His “fall from grace” from almost 39.0% on December 13th to 5.4% today. So, Mr. Gingrich felt compelled today to inform the world he will not win Iowa. Thank you so much Newt for letting us know ahead of time! Good to know from you directly.

I am right!

Was it Newt’s Howard Dean moment here? Or was it all the news from around America revealing his carry-ons as we reported here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, or here? I think it comes down to his character and integrity issues. Pure and simple. And his inability and unwillingness to answer even the basics of his past and decisions. Stunning on his part.

I have to opine on the nonsense I hear from the MSM and others. First, GMR is not – I repeat – IS NOT capped at 25%! Enough of this. Any simpleton can see 25% is a floor! See how the perspective changes? But more importantly, this is the truth; not what they are reporting. Six other candidates make up 75% at an average of 12.5% each. Watch what happens to GMR’s floor when each candidate drops.

Second, FOX seems to be rooting for anybody but GMR. I think that is true, but so are all the other MSM outlets. Why is that?

As Americans pause to review the past year and look ahead to 2011, I’d like to look back on what I feel were the top 10 articles here on MRC for 2010. The following articles demonstrate why this site has become a go-to source for Conservatives, TEA Partiers and Independents:

10. Nate Gunderson wrote a great article reviewing the first year of Mitt Romney Central and how successful our site has become. I think all of the team members here are grateful for the growth of MRC from a small site to becoming the ultimate destination for all Mitt Romney related news and articles.

9. MRC opened our Mitt Romney 2012 store this year which makes us a convenient source to purchase American-made products to proudly show support for Governor Romney!

8. Governor Romney released his highly anticipated new book in the March of this year. Luke Gunderson gave us sneak peak of No Apology: The Case for American Greatness – a tremendous must-have reference for anyone interested in getting America back on track.

7. Lots of work has been done behind the scenes here at MRC — and we have to give credit where credit is due. Our man Dave P. has researched and compiled tons of relevant info on all the major issues of our time. Dave has put in many hours of tedious work to create a library of recourses, where all Mitt Romney fans can go to get actual Mitt Romney quotes, videos, and links regarding his stance on issues such as Abortion, Immigration, and Health Care Reform.

6. A misconception about Mitt Romney s that he is a RINO. Aaron Gunderson wrote an great article addressing that very issue. It deserves to be read by every conservative as they ponder which 2012 candidate to support for the next presidential election. (I also recommend reading his follow up article explaining how a true conservative like Mitt Romney was a Tea Partier long before the Tea Party exploded onto national politics.)

5. We’ve seen many favorable polls here over the past year. Aaron Gundy’s post about the Marist 2012 GOP poll is a good reminder of why Mitt Romney will be a tough challenger for the 2012 as Mitt Romney as he receives support from diverse groups such as the Tea Party, Independents, college graduates, and women.

4. Bosman has written a series of excellent articles on RomneyCare but I like this article the most in which he clearly explains that we already have a health care mandate in the United States. He explains how Romney’s plan is different and emphasizes a crucial question: Should individuals pay for their own health care or pay for other people’s health care?

3. Rebel Ross’ article, So This is How Liberty Dies…With Thunderous Applause, is a powerful post lamenting loss of freedom that came with the passage of ObamaCare and strongly condemns political leaders in Congress who so foolishly patted themselves on the back for passing a law which undermines the freedoms that Americans enjoy. As one of my top three personal favorite posts on MRC, it is worth reading again.

2.  Vox Patriota’s article The Year of Our Obama is one the most compelling and impressive articles I’ve read on any site for why Barack Obama needs to be a one term president. Nate Gunderson listed this article as one of his favorite articles and its certainly another one of my top three favorite articles on MRC. It perfectly captures the collective frustration and anger that many conservatives, Independents, TEA Partiers, libertarians and growing wave of liberals feel towards him. As the 2012 elections comes closer, its worth reading again to remind ourselves why we need a man like Mitt Romney in office.

1. Jayde Wyatt’s post showing Mitt Romney’s Christmas card generated huge buzz on the internet as websites such as POLITICO, National Review, TIME, Hot Air, a prominent Canadian news site, Wonkette and Comedy Central’s Indecision Forever posted links to her article. It generated approximately 15,000 visitors to our site that day. Way to go, Jayde!!

All of us here look forward to 2011 — it will be an exciting year as the 2012 election starts to heat up and we continue to attract more fans of Mitt Romney. Thank you all for a fabulous 2010; here’s to another great year!

Will Romney Be Invited to Obama’s Jobs Summit?

Barack Obama announced today that come December, he’ll be holding a jobs summit. Looks like the 10.2 percent unemployment rate and the failure of the massive stimulus bill now has the White House grasping at straws, hoping to find something that works now.

Or, at least give Americans the impression that they’re trying to find something that works.

“I’m hoping that this is not just another press conference,” House Republican Whip Eric Cantor told POLITICO. “We’ve seen a lot of these dog and pony shows out of the White House, but there’s no follow through.” Cantor complained that the White House has not listened to Republican ideas on job creation.

When I first heard this news, my immediate thought was, “Mitt Romney has to be invited to this jobs summit, right? It would only make sense.” But then I realized that Obama would never invite Romney to such a thing. Just like Obama never once considered Romney to be his auto czar. While someone who is truly trying to solve these kinds of problems would include Romney, we have to remember that Obama is still playing politics. I will be shocked if Romney is invited to participate in Obama’s jobs summit.

Think of it this way: Obama holds his jobs summit and invites Romney to participate. Jobs summit is successful. Romney is now able to trumpet his success at jobs summit. In the end, Obama gave Romney the means to prove he can accomplish what Obama has failed to do over the past year. Romney now has this to use against Obama in 2012.

So don’t expect to see Romney’s name on the jobs summit roster. Like Cantor said, this is only a dog and pony show.

Romney Builds Political Capital While Biding Time on 2012 Run:

Boston, Massachusetts (CNN) — For a moment, you might think Mitt Romney was still running for office if you look at his travel schedule crisscrossing the country.

Since February, he has attended nine events for senatorial candidates, appeared at more than a dozen rallies or fundraisers for those running for governor this year or next, and spoken at almost two dozen meetings of Republican Party groups or conservative organizations. And he has finished a new book.

“This is a pivotal time in the history of our country,” Romney said at his political action committee’s office.

As the Republican Party searches for ways to rebound from its recent losses and leaders who can be turned to, Romney clearly is trying to position himself to be one of them.

Romney to Speak at Reagan Ranch:

(CNN) – Mitt Romney is heading to Reagan country.

The former Massachusetts governor is scheduled to speak this Friday to the Young America’s Foundation at the Ronald Reagan Ranch Center in Santa Barbara, California. Romney is expected to be the dinner banquet speaker for the foundation’s West Coast Leadership Conference, which consists of young conservatives from 44 colleges and universities across 12 states.

“Young people provide much of the energy in the conservative movement, and if we are going to be successful as a party we need to harness that energy and put it work on behalf of the principles we all believe in – more freedom, lower taxes and limited government,” says Romney Adviser Eric Fehrnstrom.

Surprise! Huckabee Still Resents Romney:

What’s more, [Huckabee] is vastly outworking all of his potential rivals — even the ones who, as he noted, don’t have to work for a living and don’t need to work for a living. Like, just for instance, Romney, who merits 15 entries in the index of Huckabee’s recent campaign memoir, now out in paperback. (“Romney, Mitt: disrespectful attitude of; … flip-flopping on issues; … Iowa concession, lack of; … as left of center; … negative ads.”)

He compares Romney’s attempt to prove himself more conservative than his rivals to “the Kristen Wiig character on ‘Saturday Night Live’ — ‘I’ve been there, too; I’ve been there six times.’”

Romney makes visits to 10 states on behalf of GOP candidates in October

We have several Romney news items to catch up on which I’ll encapsulate into this post. First, via the monthly PAC newsletter, we see that Mitt Romney made trips to help fellow GOP-ers in ten states, including Virginia and New Jersey for the newly elected Governors Bob McDonnell and Chris Christie, respectively. Other state visited by Governor Romney in October include: California, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, and Wisconsin. This rigorous October schedule follows an equally busy schedule had in September. So much for a peaceful retirement and riding off into the sunset. Remember that these travels and endorsements that help keep Romney in the forefront of potential 2012 candidates are made possible by your contributions to the Free and Strong America PAC.

Our other news is likely to make you want to contribute to the link above as well: Mike Huckabee is seen making headway and leading in most recent polls for the GOP 2012 nomination. The most recent was released today by USA Today/Gallup where Huckabee edged Romney by Republican voters when asked which possible 2012 contenders they would seriously consider supporting. The graph below has the results.

Other recent polls and power rankings:

  • After several months atop The Fix’s Rankings, Romney slips to third behind Palin and Pawlenty, and just ahead of Huckabee in 4th.
  • Huckabee edges Romney by 1 point in recent polls by Public Policy Polling (PPP)
  • a mid-October poll by Rasmussen had these results: Huckabee 29%, Romney 24%, Palin 18%

It would be foolish to place a lot of stock in these numbers so far out, but it is of interest at least to see where candidates stand today. Huckabee made a funny and fitting statement when asked about his thoughts on the Gallup poll: “It’s like speculating who’s going to be the best actor next year when we don’t even know what the movies are.” If Huckabee does enter the 2012 race it may be later than most because he want to continue his benefit from the 1.5 million viewers on his FOX talk show as long as possible. The minute he announces any sort of campaign he would have to leave the program. Romney on the other hand continues to keep a low public profile while interjecting only on key issues and continuing to build support for and from GOPers all across the nation. Thought all the rot oozing from ACORN would be enough to permanently spook Congress from ever giving them another tax-payer dime? Uh… trick or treat! On October 31, ACORN ghouls get treated to government REfunding while we, the taxpayers, get tricked.

Homeland Security conjured up $1 million for ACORN during the month of October – for fire prevention. I didn’t know ACORN offices were overgrown with dry brush and filled with gasoline-soaked rags.

For years, ACORN has been funding home loans for illegal aliens and our government has been complicit in ensuring those loans are approved. John Fund (Wall Street Journal) speaks with Fox and Friends’ Steve Doocy, Sept 21, 2009, on the additional rat tails boiling in ACORN’s cauldron: 


John Fund:

“Illegal aliens don’t have social security numbers so Acorn provides taxpayer identification numbers to illegal aliens to obtain no-interest loans, no-down payment loans, and all kinds of subsidies.”

“We’ve not learned the mistakes that caused Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to collapse… We are perpetuating these same problems. We are still propping up home mortgages for people who have defaulted. ..The founder of ACORN has a theory; it’s maximum eligible participation in all the government programs. What social radicals want is to change our system by first overloading it with too many clients, too many people getting government benefits. When the system collapses under the dead weight of all those subsidies and these recipients, then they think they can have dramatic social change – bring in a more egalitarian society.”

3f2b4d100538ba10So far, getting caught enabling pimps and prostitutes, instructing clients how to prevent paying taxes, providing sweet-treat home loan deals to illegal aliens, embezzling funds, and rigging elections isn’t enough to break ACORN’s spell over Congress. This reveals how entrenched the mad Democrat scientists on Capitol Hill are. They know toil and trouble lie ahead in 2010, so preserving the Acorn Frankensteins are the reason they continue to huddle in the lab.

Unless we stay awake and keep wailing, the ghosts and goblins of ACORN will haunt us long into the future. For the sake of fair elections, honest mortgage lending purposes, preventing abuse of tax-payer monies, and before our Republic lands six feet under in the graveyard of ‘Death by Corruption,’ please contact your Reps, Senators, and the White House. Urge them to drive a stake through the heart of STOP FUNDING ACORN.
