Standing Their Posts — The Tomb of the Unknowns

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Arlington Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia (Photographer: Karin Markert)

The following statement is from the Facebook page of the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) [please LIKE their Facebook page]:

“The Sentinels at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier maintain their vigil even as Hurricane Sandy bears down on the Eastern Seaboard. The Old Guard has guarded the tomb every minute of every day since April 6, 1948. Today will be no exception.”

In the past, the soldiers whose duty it is to guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier were granted a pass to stand down in severe storms. To my knowledge, they have never left their post. Hurricane Sandy is expected to be the worst storm to hit this area in our lifetimes. Thank you to Dan Marshall and Dave Anderson for this photograph posted to their Facebook pages.

Note: “Rachelle” left a comment on this post indicating the above photograph was not made during Hurricane Sandy. Based on research she sent, the photograph was made September 2012. I placed a call to Arlington Cemetery the afternoon of 10/29 and spoke to the media relations officer whom I asked whether the guards would remain at their duty stations during Hurricane Sandy. She replied by saying, “Yes sir, they stand guard now and they will remain at their posts the duration of the storm. They stand guard always, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year in all weather conditions.” Thank you to Rachelle for her clarification. While the photograph was not taken during the current storm, it is representative of current conditions under which these men are presently serving at the Tomb of the Unknowns.

Update 1: Please see discussion with Karin Markert in the Facebook and general comments section of this article. Karin is the photographer of this beautiful photograph above. I was informed she is also the wife of the Brigade Commander of The Old Guard.

Update 2: To view photographs of The Old Guard taken Monday, October 29 during Hurricane Sandy, see their Facebook album here.

The Mantle of President of The United States

As the presidential election is now within sight, I chose some of my favorite photographs of Mitt and Ann Romney to share below. I hope you enjoy them as well. In about eight days, “President-elect Romney” will retire “Governor Romney” as the formal title until the third week of January 2013. Lest you think I am too presumptuous, I wish to assure you that none of us will be letting up in our grassroots work until we have surety. All of us will be working harder in the next eight days than we have ever worked in this important endeavor. Nothing is guaranteed. If you have not yet read Ryan Hawkins’ excellent post from yesterday, please take a moment to answer the call to close strong: CALLING ON ALL ROMNEY SUPPORTERS. We will never take anything for granted!

That speech President-elect Obama made following his 2008 election victory was most inspiring to me. It really was. I have to tell you that I was as proud that night as an American as I had ever been in my life to witness our nation coming together to freely elect an African American to our nation’s highest office. I am still proud of the fact we did that! In so many ways, peoples of others nations were truly stunned – I remember reading the interviews of many. The people of the United States of America are great!

I did not vote for Barack Obama in the 2008 election. Race had nothing to do with my decision. To be completely candid, I probably take a rather simplistic approach to my choice for president each election. When weighting various attributes and skill-sets, I place extraordinary emphasis on successful leadership experience. After assessing Barack Obama’s career, I saw very shallow leadership experience, and when combining that fact with his many “present” votes of indecision as a U.S. senator, the decision to vote for McCain was a clear and easy one indeed. There is no question in my mind a large percentage of the American electorate voted for Mr. Obama based solely on the fact he was African American. I have met these voters and read about many others. In fact, I believe Colin Powell is one of these.

History I believe will judge President Obama to be one of the worst presidents in all of American history; certainly the worst in the modern era. Of this I have no doubt. 20, 30, 50 years out, he will be judged on the larger issues of his inability and unwillingness to work in a bi-partisan manner. He will be judged for receiving zero votes from both houses of congress for his budget proposal and for running up obscene, trillion dollar deficits each year with no restraint whatsoever. He will be judged incompetent for raising the expectations of all Americans with lofty promise after lofty promise while blaming others for failure at every turn. I think he will be judged by historians as lazy by in large and as a man with no real passion for the job. Finally, he will be judged much harsher than Mssrs. Johnson and Nixon for his obvious dishonesty with the American public for his intentional evasion of scrutiny of the Benghazi assassinations and subsequent cover-up that continues to this day.

Much has been said of the contrast between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. From my perspective, these two men are polar opposites in just about every aspect of their careers, character, policies, lives, and work ethic. While Barack Obama entered the presidency as one of the most unprepared men to ever take the office, Mitt Romney will be one of the most prepared leaders in the history of the republic to receive the mantle of president.

Though I do not know Mitt Romney personally, I know many who know him well. In the last seven years, I have read just about everything ever written by the man or about him. His leadership talent and reputation for inspiring others to greatness is legendary. His style of leadership is that of the servant leader. It is born of humility and an intense gratitude that emanates from an enduring knowledge that the privilege of receiving authority over others is a blessing from God that is to be exercised with care and wisdom.

The challenges facing the United States of America today are greater than any I can remember in my lifetime. No other person is more prepared and more qualified to face those challenges head on that Mitt Romney. Of this, I have no doubt.

Announcing MRC’s New Campaign: I’m comMITTed!

committed to romney badge

When we launched MittRomneyCentral.com a little over three years ago we had just one purpose in mind: help Mitt Romney become elected President of the United States. In order to achieve that goal, we have worked hard to build our audience by providing an attractive website, informative daily updates, cutting-edge SEO, and outreach into the social media platforms. We continue to have great success and daily growth on Twitter (26K followers) and Facebook (76K likes). Each day we have several thousand return visitors to our website – some of the most engaged, informed and supportive fans of the Romney-Ryan team.

Building an audience is key to reaching our goal – but followers, fans, Facebook likes, and daily visitors are NOT the measuring sticks by which we will gauge our success. Our end purpose is not to entertain insatiable minds with news and commentary.

The purpose of MittRomneyCentral.com is to spur engaged readers into engaged volunteers.

It is an unfortunate reality that so many who are concerned with politics never do anything more than wring their hands with nervous hope that the things that matter will take care of themselves. They won’t, unless we act.

My hope is that YOU, the reader, will:

  1. Contemplate your ability to contribute time and/or money
  2. Have the willingness to act accordingly
  3. Act now!

The time to delay and procrastinate has passed! No more cheering from the sidelines. No more excuses… It is time to get comMITTed!

ComMITTed to putting this country on a course of financial stability!
ComMITTed to handing our posterity a country not burdened with crushing debt!
ComMITTed to fighting the ills of liberalism, starting with firing Barack Obama!
ComMITTed to saving the future of this great country we love!
ComMITTed to do everything you can to elect Romney-Ryan on November 6th!

comMITTed banner

Today we launch this campaign with the hope that all of you will take that crucial last step to activism. We have a static page dedicated to providing information on ways you can best serve the campaign. GET STARTED HERE: http://MittRomneyCentral.com/comMITTed

As part of the “I’m comMITTed” campaign, we will also post daily highlights from volunteers, details of Romney campaign events in swing states, and continued instructions of how you can help. Look for more posts later today, and each day up until election day.

What a difference 90 minutes makes!

It was a Rocky Mountain mauling in the mile-high city last night.

If you missed Mitt Romney’s masterful message to the American people during his first presidential debate between himself and President Obama in Denver, Colorado, here it is:

Be sure to check out and share debate reviews from MRC contributors:

Last night, in spite of all the Obama mob and mainstream media have done to dishonestly disqualify Mitt Romney, the Governor reassured America he is far superior to our current White House occupant.

Romney is the guy for the job.

Tea Party for Romney–”Unity Rally 2012″

(Photo – Robyn Beck/Getty Images)

Last night, several notable “Tea Party-ers” gathered for a “Unity Rally” at The River Church here in Tampa. The list of speakers was impressive and some of the headliners were Neil Boortz, Herman Cain, Michelle Bachman, Pam Bondi, and Rebecca Kleefisch.

Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch (who, like Gov. Scott Walker, got to run and win her office/term TWICE!) did a great job energizing the crowd for the Romney/Ryan ticket (1 minute video below).

Herman Cain was his usual entertaining self and used some of his time to show how hard he’s willing to work for the future of our country by making sure that Obama doesn’t serve another term. He said he doesn’t feel spurned by not getting a speaking slot at GOP convention; that he favors time for younger ABCs (American Black Conservatives) like Mia Love.

Mia, current mayor of Saratoga Springs, is running for Congress in Utah and has been endorsed in that race by Mitt Romney.

The Tea Party Folks here last night seemed genuinely excited to get Romney/Ryan in the White House!

Giuliani & Noonan Call-Out Mainstream Media’s Double Standard — Biden: “Dumb” & “Stupid” (VIDEOS)

I’ll bet you didn’t know there was an MRC TV, did you? Neither did I. But one does exist!

NBC’s Meet The Press Sunday gave us two very short clips; one of Mayor Rudy Giuliani calling out the mainstream media for a double standard and calling Vice President Biden “dumb.” Following Giuliani’s remarks, Peggy Noonan made the same point but effectively calling Mr. Biden “stupid.”

Both videos combined are only about two minutes long:

Can you imagine what the mainstream media would do with Governor Romney or Congressman Ryan if they had made the same kinds of comments Vice President Biden did?

Why Obama is Running from Serious Reporters — (Strassel)

www.MittRomney.com (published in The Wall Street Journal, 8/16/12)

Three days ago, Kimberly Strassel’s weekly column from the Journal nailed it. The piece is titled, Why Republicans Can Win. At the time this MRC post was published, there were 159 really interesting comments at the WSJ article indicating the Democrats are seriously worried about this debate! I love it! Here is the last paragraph from Strassel’s excellent column:

This fear, this fundamentally changed political landscape, does not guarantee a Republican victory. But what it does promise is that if the Romney-Ryan ticket stays on offense—if it can fight to a draw on entitlements and leverage the powerful economic argument—then it has every shot at the White House.

As Paul Ryan would say: “Game on!” or “Bring it on!” or “We welcome this debate!”

So in thrall is the Beltway crowd to its received beliefs that it has missed this (minor) point: America looks nothing like it did even four years ago. The political landscape has been upended. And that is why Republicans can win this year.

As they have been winning. Those who insist the GOP loses when it talks entitlements have yet to explain Mr. Ryan. True fact: You can’t be the House Budget chairman without having won an election. That’s what Mr. Ryan has done, seven times, in a competitive Wisconsin district that contains senior citizens, independents and party moderates—and that voted Obama in 2008.

Kimberly A. Strassel (source: economics.wsj.com)

Save for his first run, he’s never earned less than 63% of the vote. And he’s done that by taking the entitlement fight to his opponents.

Ah, say the pros, but even Mr. Ryan couldn’t win an oldster state like Florida. Senior citizens will flip out. So they said in 2010, when Marco Rubio, in a debate with opponent Charlie Crist, suggested raising the retirement age and altering benefits to preserve Social Security. “Rubio just lost Florida!” screamed the Twitterverse.

Well, Sen. Marco Rubio is still talking about entitlement reform today. As are Republican Sens. Ron Johnson, Pat Toomey and Rob Portman, who beat Mediscare in swing states in 2010. As are dozens of House freshmen who ran on Mr. Ryan’s budget.

They won because something fundamental has changed in the electorate. Our country has been through recessions before. What it has not experienced is an administration that used an economic slowdown to spend America into a debt crisis. The debt numbers are today so extreme ($16 trillion, 70% of GDP), the consequences so real (credit downgrades, default), that voters are scared.

As Messrs. Obama and Biden continue to smile and swirl and squirm in their attempts to scare seniors and other Americans about Governor Romney’s plans to preserve Medicare, just refer back to Strassel’s simple logic and reasoning here. In the meantime, R&R will be taking it to O&B aggressively and relentlessly until they square with the American voter, or more likely, keep running from press conferences and experienced, serious reporters! I love it! Watch ‘em do the dance.

Add to this the creeping nearness of an entitlement explosion. Social Security payouts already exceed revenue. Medicare could be bankrupt in eight years. In a 2011 Gallup poll, 67% of Americans agreed that Social Security and Medicare would create a financial crisis within a decade. Voters are willing to have this debate.

Then there’s the other dramatic political change, more recent: Voters for the first time have an honest entitlement choice. Democrats have for years claimed that the choice was between the status quo and GOP cuts. Then they passed ObamaCare. In doing so, they put themselves on record with their real plans for Medicare.

The president’s Affordable Care Act uses Medicare as a piggy bank, stripping today’s program of $716 billion. And the law’s way of dealing with the ensuing Medicare shortages is to empower a group of 15 individuals to make decisions on what medical services will need to be cut. So how does the Democratic Party intend to fix Medicare? Cut Medicare dollars, ration care. Now we know.

It is this Obama Medicare plan—not the status quo—that Republicans are running against. It is against this that they are contrasting Mr. Romney’s proposal to restore that $716 billion, to preserve existing benefits for those 55 and above, and to give younger Americans more options and continued quality care.

There is only one candidate gutting Medicare today: Mr. Obama. There is only one candidate who will preserve Medicare for future generations: Mr. Romney. That comparison is striking, and it blows up conventional wisdom.

In a Rasmussen survey this week, Florida voters were asked, “When it comes to the future of Medicare, which scares you more: President Obama’s health-care law or Paul Ryan’s proposal?” By 48% to 41%, Floridians were more scared of Mr. Obama’s $716 billion cut. And Floridians age 65 and up? By 54% to 34%—a 20 percentage-point difference—Florida seniors feared most an Obama future.

Democrats may not have good ideas, but they aren’t blind. They’ve felt the shifting landscape, lived through 2010, and they understand the threat of a bold reform politician.

That’s why Mr. Obama has personally spent such time the past two years publicly working to isolate and discredit Mr. Ryan. He’s not thrilled by the Ryan pick, oh no. He fears it.

[emphasis added]

Would you like another clue as to why we may win in November, with your help? Guess what happened in these key swing states last year? [Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina and Pennsylvania] What is your guess? 825,000 Democrats left the party and went Independent. Guess where Independent voters will likely go? Usually to the challenger, especially when the incumbent POTUS is not working and has done a terrible job in the saddle. For details, read this. R&R are excited as they should be. We need them to stay on offense, keep increasing the intensity, and never let up!

President Obama No Longer Fit to be Commander in Chief

Active duty military personnel cannot speak out against deplorable practices of the executive branch of The United States of America. However, veterans, friends, and former intelligence operatives of America can speak out on their behalf. They are doing so now.

[This editorial is the sole opinion of its author and is not intended to represent the opinions of any other person or entity]

Every branch of The United States military was involved in the operation that ended the reign of Osama bin Laden, as were many men and women of the intelligence services. It is they to whom this post is dedicated.

Normally, MRC would not post a video longer than a few minutes. I made an exception due to the importance of the message of this one. I don’t believe most Americans understand the grave nature of what President Obama has allowed to occur from the White House. Please watch this video, especially the last half (see caption below they symbol of the Navy SEAL at bottom).

Quote from the video:

“If we tell a **** terrorist we are coming to get him, how we find him, who is coming, how we are going to do it, me or some of my friends are going to die.” (~ Anonymous SOF Operator)

The extent to which President Obama exploited the bin Laden operation first came to my attention in February upon reading a powerful op-ed by former Navy SEAL, Leif Babin (see post here). I have been researching the extensive leaks ever since. Later this video was produced by a veterans group denouncing President Obama for his glory run.

DUTY – HONOR – COUNTRY

The men and women of our armed forces and intelligence services, by oath, place their lives ahead of self interest and are committed to lay down their lives to save those working next to them and for their country. President Obama also gave an oath to protect the Constitution of The United States of America. It is obvious that by consistently allowing senior White House officials to leak methods of operations and other classified secrets for political gain, Mr. Obama is no longer fit to be Commander in Chief. For he alone has reduced his standing to pedantic politician. His motives are purely political now. Evidence: Since Labor Day 2011, he has spent virtually no time attempting to do his job as POTUS; rather he has been campaigning or resting (golfing) from his campaign ever since.

A true leader gives all the credit to those he or she leads. A true leader takes full responsibility for his failures under his charge. President Obama has done neither of these. President Obama is not a leader and never has been a leader in the classic definition of that word.

Thousands of dedicated women and men of America’s armed forces and intelligence services were involved in the bin Laden raid. I believe the caption below typifies the state of mind of these, our patriots, and all American service members:

Humility: The Trident is a symbol of that humility. In the Trident of a Navy SEAL, the majestic eagle has his head bowed. Without humility, the Navy SEAL knows he cannot learn. Without humility, the Navy SEAL in all likelihood will die on the battlefield. Humility helps them to learn and live to their full potential.
