ROMNEY DID NOT TAKE A "SWIPE" AT PALIN

If you look for the bad in people expecting you’ll find it, you will surely find it. – Abraham Lincoln

I lament the fact that I have to come out of my blogging slumber to write a defensive piece rather than reporting on positive news. There seem to be many spreading the news that there is in-fighting amongst GOP leaders, ie. Governor Romney taking a swipe at Palin. After reading the news here, here, here and especially here, I watched the actual video myself. (Sorry, the video is long but it is in there somewhere.)

Here is the quoted conversation:

KING: As you launch this effort, anyone who picks up “Time” magazine this week and sees the 100 most influential people, will see two Republicans in that magazine. They’ll see Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh. Is that helpful, hurtful, indifferent?

[...]

ROMNEY: John, I’d like to have a lot more influential Republicans. I think there are a lot more influential Republicans than that would suggest. But was that the issue on the most beautiful people or the most influential people? I’m not sure. If it’s the most beautiful, I understand. We’re not real cute.

To think that this is in any form a “swipe,” even a veiled one, is absurd. Romney is not making a dismissive remark about Palin’s appearance, but rather a self-deprecating remark about the GOP in general, and lamenting the fact that there are only two people on the list of 100 most-influential people. Please re-read his words. He is not mentioning the “most beautiful people” because Palin was mentioned, because remember Limbaugh was on that list too. Please don’t tell me that he was inferring that Limbaugh is beautiful. No, he’s saying that because there are only two GOP on the list and the only reason there should only be two on the list is that perhaps it was the wrong list.

To the people of Conservatives for Palin blog I say it’s time to stop the kneejerk, hair-trigger, I-get-offended-anytime-Romney-mentions-Palin reactions. Just think for a moment who is promulgating this false news – mainly biased liberal news sources. Now let’s think to ourselves about why they do this. Because they laugh their heads off whenever they can fabricate a story to cause the GOP to beat themselves up. Things like this and this, are uncalled for and only help to promote the destruction of the party to the benefit of the liberals and the detriment of all. It is shameful and should be avoided.

For the record, though I don’t think Governor Palin is the most qualified for the Office of President of the United States, I like her and was very glad that she was appointed the VP nominee, and I have written to that fact before.
