Congressman Paul Ryan, Janna, & Family, Thank You!

A magnificent choice…

It was an exciting day when we learned Mitt Romney had chosen Congressman Paul Ryan to be his Vice Presidential running mate. Serving as the House Budget Committee Chairman, we knew of Paul’s reputation for hard work, excellence, and leadership. We knew he was serious about getting government spending under control.

It was a true pleasure getting to know Paul and his wonderful family better as they accepted the call to help Governor Romney restore America.

What a journey!

Election Day! Obama’s Revenge or Romney’s American Restoration?

It’s ELECTION DAY 2012!

For Romney supporters, this day has been long in coming… and we’re thrilled it’s here!

From sea to shining sea, for many, many freedom lovers, it’s going to be a nail-biting, nerve-wracking, back-breaking, whistle-while-we’re-working, NEW FUTURE-making day.

Let the contest begin!

David Limbaugh asks:

Do You Want Revenge Against America or Loving Restoration?

Mitt Romney was very wise to pivot on Barack Obama’s impromptu statement that “voting is the best revenge” and frame the campaign in the final days as a choice between that negative message and Romney’s “love of country.”

I wouldn’t say that if I thought Obama’s statement was merely a slip of the tongue. Rather, I believe that in another unscripted moment, he once again revealed who he really is and the essence of his mindset.

When his soul mate and spouse said that her husband’s ascendancy was the first time she’d been proud of America in her adult life, she wasn’t just throwing out words. She was telling us who she is and what kind of hang-ups she has about pre-Obama America.

At the time she made the statement, she was on the stump representing her husband and speaking for him. They are of one mind on this point.

Without revisiting all the evidence pointing to Obama’s grudge against pre-Obama America, we only need remind ourselves of his pre-election comment that we were “five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.”

That was a chilling statement and unmistakable in its meaning. Obama didn’t like the America that currently existed, and he had ambitions not just to tweak it or implement a few salutary reforms but to fundamentally change it. He wasn’t just talking about getting the economy growing again after the financial meltdown. He was determined to implement structural changes across the board to exact “economic justice” and “social justice” — a pair of familiar lyrics from every leftist radical’s hymnal.

Before Obama was elected, he barked bi-partisanship. Post-election, with a majority in the House and Senate, he rebuffed Republicans – bribing, brow-beating, and twisting many congressional arms to foist his pet projects on ear-splitting objecting Americans. After 2010 midterm elections, when Republicans took the majority of House seats, Obama failed to reach out, failed to lead, then falsely brayed about GOP obstructionism:

In office, Obama has also betrayed his grudge-oriented mindset. He never really sought true bipartisanship. From day one, it was his way or the highway. Nowhere was this more striking than his dictatorial approach to Obamacare, which he willingly crammed down the throats of a dissenting American public. He was not a man who was leading America toward positive change but one who was forcibly imposing his radical will on America and completely unwilling to budge when challenged. “I’m the president.”

Let’s also not forget that during his first two years in office at least, Obama did get his way legislatively. He passed his enormously wasteful stimulus bill, the Dodd-Frank financial reform fiasco and Obamacare, and he pushed through all kinds of green energy projects, attacked and greatly damaged the oil, coal and natural gas industries, expanded dependency programs, stoked racial and class resentments, downscaled our military forces, and otherwise spent federal dollars as if he were determined to bankrupt the United States.

Obama’s failures have caused deep suffering for many Americans:

After all of this, he has nothing positive to show in his record. The economy is still in shambles with no end in sight. Yet he has given us no specifics of what he’d do in a second term except more of the same. In his words, “let’s not turn back now.” Really? Not turn back from policies that are destroying our economy and bankrupting us?

Economic results are not what he’s after, folks. He wants revenge — against an America he believes has been unfair and sinful in the past, a nation that has consumed too much of the world’s resources and been an international bully. And he’s now outright admitted he wants his voters to help him get that revenge.

It’s a relief to be at this place, right here, right now. Today we’ll exercise the right to vote this manipulative, negative, inept, crony cash-slipping, grease-palming, arm-twisting, redistributing, money-wasting, lead-from-behind shyster out of the White House.

We’ll be exercising our right to vote in the capable, confidence-inspiring man many of us have worked for years to put in the Oval Office. David Limbaugh describes him:

Mitt Romney, on the other hand, is bullish on America. He’s proud of its founding and its founding principles. He loves and embraces its free market tradition. He is confident in the private sector and believes that the road to economic recovery lies in unleashing the private sector from the oppressive boot of the federal government. He wants America to be strong again.

There is no question which of the two candidates presented the more convincing final argument. Romney is offering a positive future; Obama is assuring us continued failure. Vote — and pray.

Mitt Talking Points

For those of us talking to friends about why Mitt over Obama, I thought I’d compile a few talking points:

1. National Debt.

national debt

–Obama has significantly added to our now $16 trillion in national debt and has had over $1 trillion in deficits in each of his four years, after promises to cut deficit in half. Obama still has no plan, unless you count the glossy photo brochure with re-tread unfulfilled promises from 2008. Romney / Ryan do have a plan.

2. Bipartisanship.

–Mitt has been a model of bi-partisanship, which will be needed to reduce the deficit. Obama has blamed a GOP Congress for his failures.

3. Mitt’s a Model of Success.

–Mitt’s business, personal and government life are models of success. He’s actually done what Obama has promised: balanced budgets, turned broken enterprises around. Obama can’t seem to get past his own pride.

4. Four More Years?

–We have experienced 4 years of Obama. To expect better the 2d term is, by definition, insane. He knows he can’t change Washington from the outside.

5. Historically Low Employment.

–3.5 years of unemployment over 8%. If people hadn’t left workforce unemployment today would be over 10%.

6. Obama’s Work Ethic.

–Obama seems to show up about half the time (famously missing security briefings, unbelievable number of golf games). Mitt is already preparing just in case he wins the election, so he’ll be ready to hit the ground running.

7. Obamacare.

–This is our last chance to unwind Obamacare. Otherwise all the taxes, future healthcare rationing, lack of doctors and other problems will be permanent.

8. Supreme Court.

–Between 2 and 3 Supreme Court justices are likely to retire during the next 4 years, a liberal, a conservative and a swing justice. The next president will likely stack the court for a generation, either right or left.

9. Mitt Has a Plan.

–Mitt has a 5 point plan for economic success, Obama only attacks Mitt; does not have a real plan. Mitt’s plan: expand energy, build workers’ skills, cut deficit, focus on small business, promote fair trade. Obama’s: raise taxes, keep spending.

10. Stuff Obama Says (Odd Priorities; Egotism).

–Stuff Obama says: 4 deaths in Libya were a “bump in the road.” “If you have a small business, you didn’t build that.” Conservatives cling to guns and religion. He tells the Des Moines Register he has a plan to deal with immigration but wants to keep it off the record. Telling the Russian president he’ll have more flexibility when he doesn’t face re-election. I could go on.

11. Newspaper Endorsements.

–Reno Gazette Journal and a slew of other papers just endorsed Mitt.

12. Weak Foreign Policy.

–Obama’s foreign policy isn’t working; projecting an image of weakness has invited attack. First US ambassador to be killed in 30 years after security assistance was requested; the White House was alerted but did nothing while a drone watched. Stories out of the administration were inconsistent for weeks.

13. Twelve Million Jobs.

–Mitt has promised to create 12 million jobs in his first term.

14. President Biden?

–If anything happens to Obama, Joe Biden would be president.

I know there are others. My imagination tends to wane in the wee hours of the night. Add to comments what your talking points are…

Announcing MRC’s New Campaign: I’m comMITTed!

committed to romney badge

When we launched MittRomneyCentral.com a little over three years ago we had just one purpose in mind: help Mitt Romney become elected President of the United States. In order to achieve that goal, we have worked hard to build our audience by providing an attractive website, informative daily updates, cutting-edge SEO, and outreach into the social media platforms. We continue to have great success and daily growth on Twitter (26K followers) and Facebook (76K likes). Each day we have several thousand return visitors to our website – some of the most engaged, informed and supportive fans of the Romney-Ryan team.

Building an audience is key to reaching our goal – but followers, fans, Facebook likes, and daily visitors are NOT the measuring sticks by which we will gauge our success. Our end purpose is not to entertain insatiable minds with news and commentary.

The purpose of MittRomneyCentral.com is to spur engaged readers into engaged volunteers.

It is an unfortunate reality that so many who are concerned with politics never do anything more than wring their hands with nervous hope that the things that matter will take care of themselves. They won’t, unless we act.

My hope is that YOU, the reader, will:

  1. Contemplate your ability to contribute time and/or money
  2. Have the willingness to act accordingly
  3. Act now!

The time to delay and procrastinate has passed! No more cheering from the sidelines. No more excuses… It is time to get comMITTed!

ComMITTed to putting this country on a course of financial stability!
ComMITTed to handing our posterity a country not burdened with crushing debt!

SWING STATE POLL: Romney Closes Gap in Michigan, Increases Lead Among Independent Voters

Romney edges out Obama in MI

According to The Detroit News, Romney Leads by 1 point in the latest Michigan poll (a statistical tie). The slight lead comes largely from a surge of support among independents, who favor Romney over Obama by a whopping 10 percentage points:

A survey by Mitchell Research & Communications showed the race is a statistical dead heat between President Barack Obama and presumptive Republican challenger Mitt Romney, with Romney leading, 45 percent to Obama’s 44 percent.

The Mitchell poll showed a possible cause for concern for Obama. Romney expanded his lead among independent voters, who are considered a key voting bloc.

In the poll, they preferred Romney by a 44 percent to 34 percent margin. Last month, they liked Romney, 43 percent to 38 percent.

Team Obama is counting on Michigan, among other solidly blue states, to give them an electoral advantage come November. But at this rate, it looks like Michigan may be going red for the first time — in a presidential race — since the Reagan years.

Romney: Attracting the Undecided & Inspiring the Base

Three days ago, The New York Times posted Romney’s Potential Running Mates. The list provides a quick reference to those the media considers on the “short list.”

From time to time, MittRomneyCentral.com publishes the opinions of guests — these views are theirs alone. Following is an opinion of guest Troy Tate of Orange County, California.

—————————————————————————–

Troy Tate

This is the most important election in my lifetime. We have a community activist/agitator (Obama) in the Oval Office, whose overall objectives are to amass power and to spread the wealth so he can create a permanent underclass dependent on government. Four more years will likely tip the balance and forge an era of progressive/liberal rule. Obama has led America down the road to mediocrity and despair at home and to weakness and ambivalence abroad. But Obama’s got the media, Hollywood and an increasingly dependent group of Americans pulling for him. On the other hand, we have a challenger who can and will turn it around and keep us from falling off a cliff—Romney.

What does Romney do to win? Romney needs to fire up his base, including tea party conservatives, to give their all to his campaign at the grassroots level. Romney also needs to win over the hearts of the undecided voters who either voted for Obama in 2008 or didn’t vote at all. This undecided group of voters either might reluctantly vote for Obama or not vote at all in November. Yes, these voters may be dissatisfied with what’s happening with the government deficits, the economy, immigration and America’s loss of power and influence in the world but they don’t want to take a chance on another candidate who may make things worse. They’re not sure they can trust the challenger any more than they trust the incumbent.

How does Romney persuade these “swing voters” to go his direction? How does he earn their trust? Telling them what policies he will implement when he becomes President will not move the needle. Romney moves the needle when he connects with their hearts and helps them to see what’s at stake with our country, our freedoms, our children’s futures and our security as a sovereign nation. Romney wins them over when he shares from his core what he believes and why he believes it and passionately articulates his overall vision for America. He must focus on his “why”—why he is running and why his winning will matter a lot in their lives and the lives of their loved ones. Conservative principles articulately and passionately shared (especially on fiscal and economic issues) will win over the hearts of those teetering on the fence.

When Romney connects passionately with these voters and they feel his commitment, his beliefs and his vision, they will listen to him share what he will do and how he will do it. If Romney focuses on the policies he will implement without first connecting with their hearts, it will be much more difficult to sway these “on the fence” voters.

So this is what I would tell Governor Romney if we could talk over the phone or face to face about how to win this election:

Governor Romney, people are moved to trust you as a leader when you share those core beliefs, values and principles that are diametrically opposed to those of Obama. People are moved when the importance of what you are saying is not just in the words you select but in your voice, in your eyes and face, and in your gestures. People are moved when you speak from the heart and articulate conservative positions that survive any attacks because they are tied to timeless truths and core principles articulated in the Declaration of Independence. When these undecided voters truly start to sense what is at stake as they hear you describe it and start to feel that you are an advocate of values they hold dear, they will be motivated to support you. That’s what Reagan did so well to beat an incumbent. You can too.

Here’s my second and final suggestion to you, Governor Romney. Pick a running mate who not only is brilliant but also can clearly, effectively and passionately articulate your core beliefs, values and principles about American exceptionalism, limited government, religious freedom and free enterprise. I’ve considered those people who purportedly are on your short list and one stands strongly above the rest. Frankly, this potential running mate is inspiring regardless of the issue he addresses and regardless of whether he speaks contemporaneously at a rally, gives prepared remarks on the Senate floor, or responds to tough questions from the media. That individual is Marco Rubio.

If you haven’t done so already, listen on YouTube to Rubio recently being interviewed by Jon Stewart on the Daily Show. Consider how clearly, boldly and persuasively Rubio articulates conservative principles and positions without making personal attacks or relying on meaningless platitudes. Jon Stewart was left almost speechless because he couldn’t catch Rubio in any of the snares he set up, including the statistics to support his claim that Rubio and his Senate Republican colleagues were the worst obstructionists ever. When Rubio explained why they did what they did, all the air came out of Stewart’s obstructionist charge. Jon couldn’t knock down any of Rubio’s arguments with logic, facts or even emotion. You will probably conclude as I have how Rubio as a running mate can be a critical asset to your winning the Presidency.

Choose Rubio, Governor Romney. Portman and Pawlenty certainly can fill important positions in your administration. Christie and McDonnell can continue to lead out at the state level as Governors of New Jersey and Virginia. Ryan can help us tremendously in the House of Representatives, but Rubio is the one who will fire up your base and who will motivate all those independent swing voters, including Hispanics and other minorities, to vote for your ticket. With America’s future and our prosperity and freedoms literally hanging in the balance, don’t choose a “competent” running mate that doesn’t know how to connect with and inspire the base and the undecided voters. Rubio will do that for you and with you. Besides, he’d make a great Vice President.

Ann Romney in Nevada: America Needs a President who Understands Finance

Mitt Romney had some mighty fine help on the campaign trail this week.

Ann Romney, Mitt’s sweetheart of 42 years, journeyed to northern Nevada to stump for her husband. She held ‘meet and greets’ with GOP party loyalists in Minden and Reno:

NevadaAppeal.com

MINDEN — Ann Romney told Douglas County Republicans on Wednesday that her husband, Mitt, is the most-qualified presidential candidate — and the only one who can win the presidency next year.

“Only one person is out there who is running who will beat Obama, and that’s my husband,” she told the audience of about 20 at GOP headquarters in Minden.

She described next year’s ballot as “a watershed election.”
[...]
Romney also touted her husband’s experience, not only in politics but as a successful businessman, saying his ability to understand finance is critical.

“People who are life-long politicians, bless their hearts, don’t necessarily understand a balance sheet,” she said.

Mrs. Romney reminded the audience that his profession was fixing broken companies.

“He would take struggling companies and come in and turn them around,” she said. “If there is any time when this country needs a turn-around, it’s now. He’s been preparing his whole life for this.”

LehighValleyLive.com

“This election has huge, huge consequences,” she [Ann Romney] said. “There is only one person out there who can beat Obama, and that is my husband.”

Ann Romney touted his experience as former Massachusetts governor and with the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City.

But speaking to a largely female audience in this rural community, she also portrayed him as a husband and father, “my high school sweetheart,” and “the person who stood by my side” when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1998.

“We’ve been married 42 years. I know the guy pretty well,” Ann Romney said.

She was joined by former Nevada first lady Dema Guinn, who tearfully recalled that Wednesday would have been her husband’s 75th birthday. Former Gov. Kenny Guinn died in July 2010 when he fell from the roof of his Las Vegas home while doing repairs.

Kenny Guinn and Mitt Romney met and became friends during their time as governors. Guinn supported Mitt Romney in the 2008 presidential election.

Ann Romney, wife of Gov Mitt Romney, spoke at 'meet & greets' in Minden and Reno, Nevada on Wednesday, Aug 24, 2011. (click on map to enlarge)

“He believed in Mitt so strongly,” Dema Guinn said, “and our country today is in terrible shape.”

“I know if he was here today he’d tell me to get out and do what you need to do to get Mitt Romney elected.” Guinn added later in Reno where 80 people turned out for a similar event. “We need a businessman there who knows what to do and can read a budget.”

Ann Romney said Nevadans will play a critical role as an early caucus state in the selection of the GOP nominee.

“You guys are going to make a huge, huge difference,” she told the group in Reno that included state Assemblyman Pat Hickey, of Reno, former U.S. Rep. Barbara Vucanovich and her daughter, and ex-state treasurer Patty Cafferata.

“Do not only love this country but do something for this country,” Ann Romney said. “Get these people to the caucuses. Our nation is on the line. We need to roll up our sleeves.”

FL Poll: Romney Passes Obama, Romney Preferred Among GOP Field

Polling news from the key battleground state of Florida by Sachs/Mason-Dixon shows President Obama continuing to fade behind Mitt Romney. And, Romney is at the had of the GOP field.

The poll was taken August 18-22:

Barack Obama continues to fade in Florida, with a new poll showing Mitt Romney holding a 51-43 lead over the president and Obama in a dead heat with Rick Perry.

“Unlike 2008, if the election were held today, President Obama would face a stiffer headwind to hold on to Florida and its 29 electoral votes against a top-tier Republican challenger — and that could cost him re-election,” said Sachs Communications president Ron Sachs, citing the Sachs/Mason-Dixon Poll taken Aug. 18-22.
[...]
Romney led all Republican hopefuls with 28 percent, with Perry garnering 21 percent, Bachmann 13 percent, Herman Cain 7 percent, Newt Gingrich 5 percent and Ron Paul 4 percent.

The survey of 625 registered Florida voters also found 56 percent of respondents disapproving of Obama’s job performance vs. 41 percent approving.
