After learning of some of the distortions and lies slamming out of the first day of the Democratic National Convention, GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney today interrupted his debate prep to speak with FOX News’ chief political correspondent Carl Cameron.
Cameron characterized Romney as “chomping at the bit” to speak. The interview place took before Democrats this afternoon stunningly flip-flopped on removing ‘God’ and Jerusalem as the capitol of Israel in their platform. (‘God’ and ‘Jerusalem’ were restored; the vote took three times. Even then, the majority call was questionable.)
Cameron asked Mitt Romney specifically about the president’s recent comments giving himself an incomplete grade for his first term. Romney responded, “Incomplete usually means that you’ve got to go back and take the course again. I don’t think the American people want to see this president get another four years. The last four years have not been good for the middle class in America. There’s no question but that his policies have led to more people falling out of the middle class into poverty.”
Romney continued, “Those who think that they’re better off than they were four years ago, they may decide to vote for him, but the great majority of Americans, who recognize we’re not better off than we were four years ago, recognize his policies are not what is needed to get the middle class growing with more take-home pay and more jobs.”
Here’s Governor Romney (location was in an auto supply building in New Lebanon, New Hampshire):
Not one speaker at the Democrat convention has said Americans are better off today than they were four years ago. Another statistic they’re ignoring is when Obama took office, the number of Americans on food stamps was 32 million. Today, 47 MILLION Americans rely on food stamps. And, not a peep from them today about Obama’s latest staggering whoop-ti-doo accomplishment… America has passed the $16 trillion debt mark.
From the Democratic Natl Convention in Charlotte, NC…
By Glenn Foden – Sept 3, 2012
Obama isn’t an “incomplete” president, he’s disastrous (completely).
After listening last night to the angry, distorted rhetoric coming out of Charlotte, NC, it’s great to see Romney speak out today.
It’s also imperative we share this interview far and wide.
Slam! Now Romney could be a criminal. Yes, we could be supporting a felon! (*eye-roll*) From lie-launcher Stephanie Cutter (Obama Deputy Campaign Manager):
In a conference call with reporters this morning, the Obama campaign focused on this morning’s Boston Globe story arguing that Mitt Romney remained at Bain through 2002. The Romney campaign has called the story “not accurate.”
“Either Mitt Romney, through his own words and his own signature, was misrepresenting his position at Bain to the SEC, which is a felony, or he was misrepresenting his position at Bain to the American people to avoid responsibility for some of the consequences of his investment,” Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter asserted.
“If he was lying to the American people,” she added. “then that’s a real character and trust issue that the American people need to take very seriously.”
“If he’s legally responsible for everything that happened inside those Bain deals, seems to me that he’s also politically responsible for the consequences of those deals in terms of people losing their jobs, losing their pensions and their health care, and American jobs being shipped overseas,” she said.
Slam! Cutter also reiterated the too-stupid-for-words claim that Governor Romney is the most secretive presidential candidate since Richard Nixon. Another attempt to define The Gov by invoking a name attached with great scandal… Yes, the Obama lie launchers have obviously memorized the Alinsky playbook.
Slam! In pre-emptive worminess to negate positive press coming Romney’s way from his attendance at the summer Olympics in London in a couple of weeks, Cutter tried to get some bang with this one:
Cutter also took a swipe at his work related to the 2002 Olympics, commenting that Romney’s Olympic record was “less than wholesome, shall we say, in terms of the decisions that were made there, the contracts that were signed, and the basic operation of how Mitt Romney ran the Olympics.”
Slam! Obama’s lie-launchers are not giving up on the Romney is an outsourcer meme, either.
Yes, Ms. Cutter. LYING is a real character and trust issue the American people need to take very seriously. The fact that you and your boss are deceiving America IS BEING TAKEN VERY SERIOUSLY. So, stand back liars! Romney and team are firing back with explosions of TRUTH…
In a conference call Monday morning, senior staff said Romney’s surrogates would stop shying away from the word “lie” in responding to Democrats’ attacks on his business record, and plan to go on TV to call Obama a “liar,” the source said.
They are very fed up with these attacks,” said the source.
To spread the message, the source said, the campaign is going to start circulating a document to press that compiles “presidential falsehoods and exaggerations.”
NUMBER ONE: The Obama Campaign’s Discredited Attack On Governor Romney’s Record Of Job Creation
NUMBER TWO: President Obama Falsely Claimed Obamacare Was “Absolutely Not A Tax Increase”
NUMBER THREE: The Obama Campaign’s Attempt To Deflect Blame For The Failed Solyndra Investment
NUMBER FOUR: President Obama’s False Claim About His Record Of Creating Manufacturing Jobs
NUMBER FIVE: The Obama Campaign Distorted Governor Romney’s Position On Abortion
NUMBER SIX: The Obama Campaign’s Distorted Attacks About Massachusetts Contracts For Foreign Jobs
NUMBER SEVEN: The Obama Campaign’s Misleading Claim About Massachusetts’ Debt Burden
NUMBER EIGHT: The Obama Campaign’s False Attack About Governor Romney’s Position On Student Loan Rates
NUMBER NINE: President Obama’s Misinformation About His Own Record Of Job Creation
NUMBER TEN: President Obama’s “Ridiculous” Claim On Tax Cuts
The Romney press shop today released ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER OBAMA CAMPAIGN FALSEHOOD:
“The Obama campaign must think Mitt Romney is Superman. He was, in reality, rescuing the Olympics by working in Utah 24/7 for the years the Obama campaign also alleges he was running Bain Capital. Even though the Obama campaign may be wrong about his involvement in Bain Capital, it shows that even they can admit Mitt Romney is a great leader.” –Former Governor John Sununu
Today, The Obama Campaign Launched Even More False Attacks On Governor Romney’s Business Career:
Today, The Obama Campaign Falsely Alleged That Governor Romney Was Managing Bain Capital After February 1999. “The Obama campaign said a Boston Globe report Thursday proves Mitt Romney hasn’t been truthful about when he left Bain Capital. The Globe story cites SEC filings to prove Romney stayed on as head of Bain Capital after 1999.” (Pema Levy, “Obama Camp: Romney ‘Wasn’t Telling The Truth’,” Talking Points Memo, 7/12/12)
Multiple Non-Partisan Fact Checkers Have Already Confirmed Mitt Romney Left Bain Capital When He Actually Did – In February 1999:
“The Massachusetts-Based Firm Notes That Romney Retired More Than 13 Years Ago.” (Steve Peoples, “Bain Capital Defends Record In Light Of Criticism,” The Associated Press, 5/16/12)
Sean Hannity welcomed Governor Mitt Romney to his radio program yesterday to talk about an article released yesterday by the Romney press team titled The Truth Hurts. For weeks Obama and surrogates have been telling lies about Romney’s record; this fact-filled article debunks Team Obama’s despicable distortions and fabrications.
Romney called in from Grand Junction, Colorado; you don’t want to miss this excellent interview:
A few highlights from Romney…
@ 2:19 – The challenge for this president is in a lot of respects he’s an old-style Democrat; the old liberals were always in favor of more government programs, more spending, more borrowing when things were difficult. And, we’ve found that has not worked. The right course for America is not to raise taxes on people, not to go out and borrow excessively, but instead to live within our means and to have tax policies that encourage job creators and small businesses to grow their business and add employees.
@7:30 – I have a five-step plan to see jobs recover in this country.
1. Take advantage of our energy resources – oil, coal, gas, renewables.
2. Open trade – particularly in Latin America and crack down on China when they cheat.
3. Put us on track to have a balanced budget.
4. Make sure we have schools and training programs that prepare us for the jobs of today and tomorrow.
5. Restore economic freedom in this country. The taxes, the regulations, the burdens applied by government are crushing economic freedom, are crushing entrepreneurs. That has to end. We have to restore the American dream or our economy will stay in the doldrums.
@9:45 – …I would make the Bush tax cuts permanent, but then go to work to reform our tax code altogether…
@11:28 – Isn’t it amazing that the President of the United States – who by the way, called me and congratulated me when I got a pretty good lock on the nomination – he called me and said, “The country is going to benefit by an honest and important debate on the future direction of the country.“ That’s what he said. And yet, what he has done has been one attack after the other on items that deflect interest from a real debate on the issues the nation faces. This most recent one suggesting that I would engage in something that is illegal, that is criminal, that I would hide assets and not pay fair taxes, not pay the taxes that are owed – I mean it’s unbelievable. He said, “Well, it’s a matter of transparency.” Well, how about the transparency of a president who through executive privilege is preventing the American people from finding out what happened in the Fast & Furious program? If there is transparency that needs to be condemned here it’s the lack of transparency in his administration to let the American people know what has happened in a scandalous activity known as Fast & Furious. So Sean, I can assure you of this – I have followed the law, I have paid my taxes as due, I have also disclosed through all the requirements of the government every asset which I own – fairly and honestly – recognizing, of course, not to do so would be not only wrong, but illegal and criminal. It is this president however, that must explain why he has resorted to executive privilege to hide from the American people the truth about Fast & Furious.
UPDATE – After delivering his speech today to the NAACP, Romney was interviewed by Neil Cavuto (FOX News). The Hill reports:
Romney also discussed the state of the campaign, downplaying concerns voiced by some Republicans that his campaign had not been aggressive enough in combating attacks from Democrats. But Romney said his campaign was better served by trying to focus on issues they saw as relevant to voters.
“I respond to the attacks that come, but they say in politics if you are responding, you are losing,” Romney said. “I think the better course for our campaign is to respond to the attacks as being completely off-base. People are tired of this petty attack that comes from politicians and they want to see someone who talks about the issues they care about.”
Romney also dismissed calls from the Obama campaign to release additional years of tax returns, calling the issue a distraction. The Obama campaign issued a new commercial Wednesday calling on Romney to disclose more information about his financial holdings.
“The Democrats are always going to be critics,” Romney said. “We have released all of the financial statements required by law and two years of tax returns. The most recent year we will be releasing as soon as that’s prepared. Tax information is there, other financial disclosure is there; the same level of information that [Sens.] John McCain [(R-Ariz.)] and John Kerry [(D-Mass.)] for that matter released when they were running for president.”
Let’s get the truth out there! Share far and wide The Truth Hurts and this interview.
As we consider our choice in November, America needs to reflect upon our nation’s founding, remembering what has made America, America! This is not the time to be swayed by the progressive’s, whose diatribes of division and distortion lead us down paths of debt and destruction. This is not a time to fall prey to flattery and promises of entitlement. This is not a time to abide mediocrity, thinking that we should be coddled and cared for by a duplicitous, oppressive and burdensome sovereign. This is not a time for passivity. If we think about it, we are like a ship having sailed many, many miles only to find that we have been one degree off course. That one degree has caused us to miss the mark and we now find that we are many, many miles away from where we intended to be.
We are, after all, Americans. We stand where few have stood, which is why we kneel in grateful appreciation. We have a stewardship to stand for liberty and freedom – to defend the downtrodden and care for the needy. To do so, we need to be a free and self-reliant people, remembering who we are and the divine entreaty given to each of us, and to this land we call America. This is a time to stand together against those who would lead us into bondage and oppression, in the name of “fairness” and government dependency. This is a time for serious reflection, a time for remembering. This election is a time for men of faith to lead us as they have before. Ronald Reagan was such a man.
Mitt Romney is no less. His life has been a preparation for this pivotal moment in our America. His life is a reflection of all that is good in America. He has lived, with constancy, abiding by true and correct principles; principles that have made our nation the light of the world. We have a choice in November; the arrogance of flattery and accommodation, or the divine declaration of freedom and liberty! Barack Obama represents the arrogance of flattery, while Mitt Romney is the epitome, in meekness, of the divine declaration given to each American and to America.
When comparing the hearts and minds of men who seek to lead America, and observing their experience and choices in life, it is clear – Barack Obama cares deeply about Barack Obama and his ideology of dependency, while Mitt Romney cares deeply about America and Americans, and the needed interdependency of freedom.
Rick Perry was in metro Atlanta today and his traveling companion, Pinocchio, wasn’t far behind…
“Governor Perry is desperate to shift attention away from his liberal policies that encourage illegal immigration. His repeated use of distortions and fabrications on the campaign trail shows that Rick Perry can’t be trusted to tell the truth.” – Ryan Williams, Romney Spokesperson
Rick Perry’s Pinocchio shadow: Inferring that Mitt Romney implemented Cap-And-Trade in Massachusetts. PERRY: “Another state – Massachusetts – was one of the first states to implement its own cap-and-trade program which included limits on carbon emissions for power plants.” (Rick Perry, Remarks, Atlanta, GA, 9/30/11)
The truth: Romney did not implement Cap-And-Trade in Massachusetts. “Former Gov. Mitt Romney opted out of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative in 2005, saying it could drive up energy costs for consumers.” (Steve LeBlanc, “Massachusetts Governor Patrick Signs First Multistate Greenhouse Gas Initiative,” The Associated Press, 1/18/07)
• Romney’s Democratic successor – not Romney – signed the state on to the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. “Deval Patrick making good on a campaign pledge, signed an agreement Thursday committing Massachusetts to the nation’s first multistate program to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming.” (Steve LeBlanc, “Massachusetts Governor Patrick Signs First Multistate Greenhouse Gas Initiative,” The Associated Press, 1/18/07)
• “Former Gov. Mitt Romney Declined To Sign The Agreement In 2005 Because He Said It Would Lead To Higher Energy Costs.” (“Patrick Signs Up Bay State For Battle Vs. Global Warming,” The Lowell Sun, 1/21/07)
Attorney General Sam Olens: “Our country has a problem with illegal immigration. Programs like Rick Perry’s in-state tuition breaks for illegal immigrants only make it worse. Instead of providing special benefits for illegal immigrants, our nominee must be someone who will secure the border and end incentives for illegal immigration.”
State Representative Bruce Williamson: “Why does Rick Perry support tuition breaks for illegal immigrants that aren’t available to legal American citizens? It is clear that he is not committed to stopping the incentives that have created our illegal immigration problem. In order to stop illegal immigration, we must have a president who has a record of enforcing immigration laws, not one who has a record creating policies that encourage illegal immigration.”
State Representative Wendell Willard: “Why is Rick Perry in favor of taxpayer subsidies for illegal immigrants? Programs such as his tuition breaks for illegal immigrants only make the problem worse by providing incentives for people to break the law. It makes no sense to use taxpayer dollars to fund benefits for illegal immigrants over Americans from out-of-state.”
State Representative Lynne Riley: “Rick Perry’s support for in-state tuition does not line up with the values of Georgia voters. Georgians support enforcing immigration laws, securing our border, and stopping the practices that draw illegal immigrants to our country. Providing in-state tuition for illegal immigrants incentivizes illegal immigration and makes it harder for our country to stop a growing problem.”
