Mitt Romney Remembers World Icon & American Hero Astronaut Neil Armstrong…

One small step for man; one giant leap for mankind.

Neil Armstrong, first man on the moon, has died…

A soft-spoken, humble, amazing historical American hero died today…

82 year old Neil Armstrong, who made history on July 20, 1969 by being the first man to ever walk on the moon, passed away today following complications from cardiovascular procedures.

Mitt Romney’s statement today on the death of Neil Armstrong:

Neil Armstrong today takes his place in the hall of heroes. With courage unmeasured and unbounded love for his country, he walked where man had never walked before. The moon will miss its first son of earth.

I met and spoke with Neil Armstrong just a few weeks ago–his passion for space, science and discovery, and his devotion to America will inspire me through my lifetime.”

A few highlights of Armstrong’s life:

Armstrong was born Aug. 5, 1930, on a farm in Ohio. He took his first airplane ride at age 6 and developed a fascination with aviation that prompted him to build model airplanes and conduct experiments in a homemade wind tunnel. He was licensed to fly at 16, before he got his driver’s license.

Armstrong enrolled in Purdue University to study aeronautical engineering but was called to duty with the U.S. Navy in 1949 and flew 78 combat missions in Korea. After the war, Armstrong finished his degree and later earned a master’s degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Southern California. He became a test pilot with what evolved into the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, flying more than 200 kinds of aircraft from gliders to jets.

Armstrong was accepted into NASA’s second astronaut class in 1962 — the first, including Glenn, was chosen in 1959 — and commanded the Gemini 8 mission in 1966. After the first space docking, he brought the capsule back in an emergency landing in the Pacific Ocean when a wildly firing thruster kicked it out of orbit.

Armstrong was backup commander for the historic Apollo 8 mission at Christmastime in 1968. In that flight, Commander Frank Borman, and Jim Lovell and Bill Anders circled the moon 10 times, and paving the way for the lunar landing seven months later.

It’s estimated that 500 to 600 million people around the world huddled around televisions to watch the moon landing; many more listened on radio.

Looking back

At 9:32 a.m. on July 16, with the world watching, Apollo 11 took off from Kennedy Space Center with astronauts Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin Jr., and Michael Collins aboard. Armstrong, a 38-year-old civilian research pilot, was the commander of the mission. After traveling 240,000 miles in 76 hours, Apollo 11 entered into a lunar orbit on July 19. The next day, at 1:46 p.m., the lunar module Eagle, manned by Armstrong and Aldrin, separated from the command module, where Collins remained. Two hours later, the Eagle began its descent to the lunar surface, and at 4:18 p.m. the craft touched down on the southwestern edge of the Sea of Tranquility. Armstrong immediately radioed to Mission Control in Houston, Texas, a famous message: “The Eagle has landed.”

Apollo 11 Commander Neil Armstrong salutes the American flag firmly planted in the dust of the moon’s surface. July 20, 1969

…[A] fifth of the world’s population — watched and listened to the moon landing, the largest audience for any single event in history.

Parents huddled with their children in front of the family television, mesmerized. Farmers abandoned their nightly milking duties, and motorists pulled off the highway and checked into motels just to watch on TV.

The moment arrives…

At 10:39 p.m., five hours ahead of the original schedule, Armstrong opened the hatch of the lunar module. As he made his way down the lunar module’s ladder, a television camera attached to the craft recorded his progress and beamed the signal back to Earth, where hundreds of millions watched in great anticipation. At 10:56 p.m., Armstrong spoke his famous quote, which he later contended was slightly garbled by his microphone and meant to be “that’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.” He then planted his left foot on the gray, powdery surface, took a cautious step forward, and humanity had walked on the moon.

Here’s video of that historical moment when millions across the earth held their collective breath as America did the unimaginable – put man on the moon:

A man who shunned the cameras, Armstrong described himself:

I am, and ever will be, a white socks, pocket protector, nerdy engineer,” he said in February 2000 in one of his rare public appearances. “And I take a substantial amount of pride in the accomplishments of my profession.”

It’s important to note Astronaut Armstrong was critical of Obama’s space plans. In May 2010, Armstrong testified before before a House panel that exercised jurisdiction over NASA:

The leadership enthusiastically assured the American people that the agency was embarking on an exciting new age of discovery in the cosmos,” Armstrong said. “But the realities of the termination of the shuttle program, the cancellation of existing rocket launcher and spacecraft programs, the layoffs of thousands of aerospace workers, and the outlook for American space activity throughout the next decade were difficult to reconcile with the agency assertions.”

Armstrong said the Obama administration’s cancellation of the back-to-the-moon Constellation program and reliance on commercial spacecraft to service the orbiting International Space Station are contributing to “substantial erosion of the United States’ historically highly regarded space industrial base” and a reduction in the number of students pursuing advanced engineering degrees.

The retired Navy aviator added: “A lead – however earnestly and expensively won — once lost is nearly impossible to regain.”

In 1999, Armstrong wed Carol Knight. He had two adult sons from a previous marriage.

Armstrong’s family issued a simple, beautiful suggestion for anyone who wanted to remember him:

Honor his example of service, accomplishment and modesty, and the next time you walk outside on a clear night and see the moon smiling down at you, think of Neil Armstrong and give him a wink.”

From everyone at MRC

to American hero,

world icon,

Neil Armstrong…

The eagle has landed.

Rest in peace.

President Obama No Longer Fit to be Commander in Chief

Active duty military personnel cannot speak out against deplorable practices of the executive branch of The United States of America. However, veterans, friends, and former intelligence operatives of America can speak out on their behalf. They are doing so now.

[This editorial is the sole opinion of its author and is not intended to represent the opinions of any other person or entity]

Every branch of The United States military was involved in the operation that ended the reign of Osama bin Laden, as were many men and women of the intelligence services. It is they to whom this post is dedicated.

Normally, MRC would not post a video longer than a few minutes. I made an exception due to the importance of the message of this one. I don’t believe most Americans understand the grave nature of what President Obama has allowed to occur from the White House. Please watch this video, especially the last half (see caption below they symbol of the Navy SEAL at bottom).

Quote from the video:

“If we tell a **** terrorist we are coming to get him, how we find him, who is coming, how we are going to do it, me or some of my friends are going to die.” (~ Anonymous SOF Operator)

The extent to which President Obama exploited the bin Laden operation first came to my attention in February upon reading a powerful op-ed by former Navy SEAL, Leif Babin (see post here). I have been researching the extensive leaks ever since. Later this video was produced by a veterans group denouncing President Obama for his glory run.

DUTY – HONOR – COUNTRY

The men and women of our armed forces and intelligence services, by oath, place their lives ahead of self interest and are committed to lay down their lives to save those working next to them and for their country. President Obama also gave an oath to protect the Constitution of The United States of America. It is obvious that by consistently allowing senior White House officials to leak methods of operations and other classified secrets for political gain, Mr. Obama is no longer fit to be Commander in Chief. For he alone has reduced his standing to pedantic politician. His motives are purely political now. Evidence: Since Labor Day 2011, he has spent virtually no time attempting to do his job as POTUS; rather he has been campaigning or resting (golfing) from his campaign ever since.

A true leader gives all the credit to those he or she leads. A true leader takes full responsibility for his failures under his charge. President Obama has done neither of these. President Obama is not a leader and never has been a leader in the classic definition of that word.

Thousands of dedicated women and men of America’s armed forces and intelligence services were involved in the bin Laden raid. I believe the caption below typifies the state of mind of these, our patriots, and all American service members:

Humility: The Trident is a symbol of that humility. In the Trident of a Navy SEAL, the majestic eagle has his head bowed. Without humility, the Navy SEAL knows he cannot learn. Without humility, the Navy SEAL in all likelihood will die on the battlefield. Humility helps them to learn and live to their full potential.

Romney’s New Ads: Obama Econ Not Getting Better, Cherished Friend Israel

Today, Romney for President released two fantastic new television ads.

The first is titled “It’s Just Not Getting Better.” Under President Obama, our economy is just not getting better. Americans are suffering. As former NH Gov John Sununu said, “It’s a DISASTER.”

Governor Romney has a plan and the experience to build a stronger, robust middle class with more jobs and MORE TAKE-HOME PAY. And, regardless of the tiresome, lying rhetoric coming from Obamaville, Romney is NOT going to raise taxes on the middle class. Mitt Romney is the leader we need:

An excerpt from Romney’s radio interview with Sean Hannity on August 2, 2012:

“Help is on the way for the middle class.”

Mitt’s Five-Point Plan (click on image to enlarge):

It’s a shocker.

After nearly four years as President of the United States, Obama hasn’t stepped foot in Israel. To put his turned-up nose in perspective, here’s a list of countries Obama HAS visited: Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Turkey, Iraq, Mexico, Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Russia, Italy, Vatican City, Ghana, Denmark, Japan, Singapore, China, So. Korea, Norway, Afghanistan, India, Indonesia, Portugal, Brazil, Chile, El Salvador, Ireland, Poland, Australia, and Colombia. And, he’s visited some of these countries more than once. Obama can’t be bothered with Israel…

Governor Romney recognizes and values the cherished relationship our nation has with Israel. Our country needs a leader that stands with our allies – and Romney will. Here’s the second new Romney ad ‘Cherished Relationship‘:

Well done!

President Obama Files Lawsuit to Restrict Military Voting

Barack Obama last month filed a lawsuit to restrict voting of active duty military men and women. If successful, the right of service members to vote early will be taken away. (please sign petition below)

Service member voting in Kabul, Afghanistan in 2008 / (AP Photo/Rafiq Maqbool)

The article by Mike Flynn of Breitbart currently shows 85,846 Facebook recommends and over 1,000 Twitter retweets. Americans are clearly outraged by the shamelessness of Obama’s actions in this regard. Governor Romney issued the following press release today to further expose Mr. Obama’s impudence:

Mitt Romney today made the following statement on early voting privileges for military servicemen and women in Ohio:

“President Obama’s lawsuit claiming it is unconstitutional for Ohio to allow servicemen and women extended early voting privileges during the state’s early voting period is an outrage. The brave men and women of our military make tremendous sacrifices to protect and defend our freedoms, and we should do everything we can to protect their fundamental right to vote. I stand with the fifteen military groups that are defending the rights of military voters, and if I’m entrusted to be the commander-in-chief, I’ll work to protect the voting rights of our military, not undermine them.”

Mike Flynn makes the following points in his post two days ago:

I think it’s unconscionable that we as a nation wouldn’t make it as easy as possible for members of the military to vote. They arguably have more right to vote than the rest of us, since it is their service and sacrifice that ensures we have the right to vote in the first place.

If anyone proposes legislation to combat voter fraud, Democrats will loudly scream that the proposal could “disenfranchise” some voter, somewhere. We must ensure, they argue, that voting is easy and accessible to every single voter. Every voter, that is, except the men and women of our military.

Make no mistake, the Democrat lawsuit is intended to disenfranchise some unknown number of military voters. The judge should reject it with prejudice.

Please support our troops by signing this petition to ensure every vote by every woman and man in uniform is counted in November.
We will not allow Obama to restrict the rights of those who preserve ours!

Former SEAL Operator Forms Super PAC Opposing Obama — “Enough is enough!”

Montana State Senator, Ryan Zinke is a former Navy SEAL and member of Team VI and has formed a Super PAC in support of all active duty military personnel and veterans who oppose the commander in chief for the many decisions he has made and actions he has taken to endanger operations, methods, and lives of our military men and women. He is taking the tack Governor Romney has taken many times in his career: He is heading up this initiative as a volunteer with no pay. Why? “For God and Country.”

This is just one of the PACs that have been formed by former military personnel:

We Need Mitt’s Foreign Policy Leadership Now More Than Ever

By Doug Stevens

Much has been written and reported about the lack of leadership by President Obama in matters relating to the economy and his disdain for entrepreneurship. I cannot recall any legislation during his entire term that was passed with some collaboration or cross party support. We have had and continue to have the Win/Lose political leadership of the Chicago style of management. Though a number of initiatives have been proposed, none have been worked collaboratively. This is very troubling, but now more than ever, we see the danger of the leadership void in foreign policy.

Even as I am writing this, the situation has worsened in Syria. We have an international humanitarian and Islamic Fundamentalist takeover in the country of Mali. We see the Muslim Brotherhood extending its influence and control in a number of ‘Arab Spring’ countries, most notably in Egypt. Deployment of chemical and biological weapons is now being actively discussed by Syria. The radical Islamist movement continues to progress. Al Qaeda and its surrogates are certainly not on the run as Secretary Panetta was recently quoted as saying.

Where is the western plan to contain and resist the radical Islamist agenda? Where is our President on dealing with these crises? Yes, I do believe that our pocketbooks may be the most influential single factor in making a Presidential voting decision this fall, but I am becoming increasingly concerned about the decline in the safety of American interests internationally and in the continuously increasing risk to our security by the lack of defined and upheld American foreign policy.

We are in the middle of Governor Romney’s first foreign trip as the presumptive Republican candidate. It gives me great hope that the American public will come to see his resolute determination to a principled and determined approach to American foreign policy. It wasn’t until this week that I understood that Governor Romney has a personal association with Prime Minister Benjamin Netahyahu of Israel. This is a great comfort to me to know that the one country that will always be in the center of the tornado of change in the Middle East will have a personal connection to what I hope will be our future President, Mitt Romney.

I hope in the public discourse of the strengths and weaknesses of the presidential candidates that the differences in approach to foreign policy will take a more prominent position. We need a man of action leading our foreign policy, not a cautious, play both sides against the middle community organizer; notwithstanding the one or two strong positions he has taken, Obama has not led with strength at all or consistently.

There have been some very memorable moments in our country’s history of strong, decisive leaders. One example for me includes the decision of Harry Truman to use a nuclear bomb in Japan. That decision took incredible foresight and courage. John F. Kennedy’s standoff with Nikita Kurshchev over missiles in Cuba took great courage, especially for a new, young, inexperienced President. There is also Ronald Reagan’s powerful and prophetic statement in June of 1987, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”

We must have a leader that exudes this kind of confidence and leadership in order to rally the nation in unity. I believe that Governor Romney is just that kind of leader. We have seen that President Obama prefers a conciliatory leadership style. With radical Islamism on the rise, that weakness just won’t work. We must have a clear foreign policy and the leader of our country must continuously demonstrate the will to carry out that policy. Words in these kind of situations are just not enough. Yes, President Obama can give great speeches, but we are desperately in need of great actions.

I look forward to better foreign policy days with the election of Governor Romney as President of the United States. Please join me in working to see this happen.

Mr. Stevens lives in Laguna Niguel, CA with his wife Susan. He has over 30 years of sales, sales management, marketing and business development experience. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from University of Utah and earned a Masters of Arts in Applied Mathematics from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Romney to Travel to Israel, Germany, Great Britain, Poland

Politico announced yesterday “a major foreign policy offensive” in their article titled, Exclusive: Romney weighs foreign-policy tour by Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Martin.

The article stresses that Governor Romney is still planning exactly which stops to make and may include five or more nations (until I read this, I had not realized that President Obama has never visited Israel as President!). Tentatively, these include Great Britain, Israel, Germany, Poland, and possibly Afghanistan. Plans are expected to be finalized this next week and Romney will kick off the tour with a “news-making” speech at the VFW convention in Reno. Following are excerpts from the Politico article.

Great Britain

The presumptive GOP nominee then is slated to travel to London for the start of the Olympics and to give a speech in Great Britain on U.S. foreign policy.
[...]
The trip to London provides Romney with the chance to both reinforce America’s “special relationship” with the United Kingdom and to remind voters of his leadership role in rescuing the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

Israel (Middle East)

Readers that are new to MRC may have missed two prior posts by Jacob Kornbluh about Israel. His post of April 27th references the 36-year friendship between Governor Romney and Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and just four days ago he wrote about Romney’s plans to visit Israel this summer. The Politico article continues,

Romney next would fly to Israel for a series of meetings and appearances with key Israeli and Palestinian officials.
[...]
Still, he [Bill Kristol] said Romney could make more of his trip to the Mideast with other stops beyond Israel.

“I think it would be nice if he went to Afghanistan,” Kristol said. “I think it would be nice if he visited the troops defending the country. I think it would be nice if he went in a very apolitical way.”
[...]
Then there will be an unspoken if obvious contrast when the Republican visits Israel, a country that Obama has yet to go to as president and the first place abroad Romney has said he’ll travel to if he wins in November.

In Israel, Romney will, as was first reported by The New York Times, meet with people across the ideological spectrum. He’ll sit down with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but also the Labor opposition, Obama’s envoy to Tel Aviv, Ambassador Dan Shapiro, and the head of the Palestinian Authority. These sit-downs will help Romney push back against the idea that he’s merely in the Jewish state to curry favor with an influential political constituency. But even Republicans are candid about what the Israel trip could mean for the campaign.

“There are a lot of donors and potentially a few voters in places like Florida for which it sticks in people’s craw that Obama hasn’t been there yet,” said one informal foreign policy adviser to Romney’s campaign. It is also a place that resonates with the party’s evangelical base.

Germany

Romney officials are hoping to arrange a meeting between the candidate and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin. While Merkel and Obama have been in frequent contact recently over the European debt crisis, she generally favors a policy of austerity that varies from Obama’s support for government stimulus spending.

Poland

Romney’s trek to Poland may not offer the same political dividends but will be as symbolically weighted given recent events and the Republican’s tough talk about Russia.

While Bush famously praised the Polish contribution — “You forgot Poland” — to the Iraq War, the relationship between Obama and Warsaw has not been as warm.

The Poles were angry when Obama in 2009, on the 70th anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Poland, announced plans to back out of a missile shield agreement and have been more generally uneasy about the administration’s “reset” policy toward Moscow.

More recently, Obama infuriated Poles when he misspoke in a White House ceremony and referred to “Polish death camps” when referring to Nazi concentration camps. Then there was the president’s hot mic moment with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev earlier this year where Obama said he’d “have more flexibility” to deal with missile defense in a second term.

“There’s this sense that America is looking elsewhere, and then there are these horrendous misstatements,” said Andrew Michta, senior transatlantic fellow at the German Marshall Fund and director of the think tank’s office in Warsaw, on the view among Polish elites toward the U.S. administration. “There’s a general perception that the United States is putting distance between itself and Europe. In central Europe, you feel this.”

Michta also noted that Obama has yet to speak at a public event in the country — a contrast with both Bush and former President Bill Clinton.

Romney has taken a hard-line stance toward Moscow, saying after Obama’s overheard conversation with Medvedev that Russia is America’s “No. 1 geopolitical foe.” The remark was seized on by Democrats and criticized by some Republicans as an overreach. Still, other Republicans argue there is enough merit to the claim that Russia needs to be viewed with suspicion that Romney shouldn’t abandon the argument altogether.

I was excited to hear about this “foreign-policy” trip Governor Romney is planning. There are so many advantages to such a trip aside from the obvious. Most important to me is the opportunity Governor Romney will have to meet with world leaders, one on one to discuss international issues with an eye to the future.

This reminds me of the naive statements Mr. Obama made in 2007 and 2008 when he scolded President Bush for not solving the Iranian crisis by extending the hand of friendship to Iran and through diplomatic negotiation — how is that working out Mr. President? Americans are embarrassed by Mr. Obama’s passive and apologetic foreign policy. President Romney will not take a passive approach to foreign policy.

Romney: “Obama’s ‘Reset’ Policy Toward Russia Has Clearly Failed”

Kremlin in Moscow, Russia

From Mitt Romney Press:

Mitt Romney today made the following statement on President Obama’s failed Russia policy:

“President Obama’s ‘reset’ policy toward Russia has clearly failed. Russia has openly armed and protected a murderous regime in Syria, frustrated international sanctions on Iran, and opposed American efforts on a range of issues. This is an unfortunate failure of President Obama’s foreign policy.”

Obama met Putin in 2009.

March 25, 2012 - Caught on mic unbeknownst to President Obama at a press conference with then-Russian President Dmitri Medvedev in Seoul:

Obama: “On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this can be solved, but it’s important for him [Putin] to give me space.”

Medvedev: (then out-going Russian President): “Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for you …”

Obama: “This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility.

Medvedev: “I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir.”

SPECIAL OPERATIONS SPEAKS (“SOS”) Takes Action — Needs Our Help!

From time to time, MittRomneyCentral will spotlight other grassroots organizations whose purpose parallels ours — this is one of those times.

MittRomneyCentral.com is a grassroots organization whose purpose is to promote the election of Mitt Romney to be our next President of the United States (MRC is not affiliated with the MR campaign). All like-minded persons also oppose President Barack Obama for many reasons, including his lack of leadership, intentional deception in rhetoric, misguided policies, obscene spending, among countless others. Most outrageous of them is the deliberate leaking of highly sensitive national security intelligence! I consider these leaks criminal in nature.

The first time I became aware of these flagrant leaks of classified information was in February when former Navy SEAL Leif Babin wrote about it in an Op-Ed in The Wall Street Journal. His opinion was included in the piece I wrote here: “Obama: Inexcusable Breach of Sacred Trust — As President.” Since then I have spoken to active duty military who are incensed at Obama’s deliberate leaking of national security secrets (they are precluded from speaking openly because he is their Commander-in-Chief).

An investigation was announced Friday by the Obama administration by AG Holder. Talk about the fox guarding the hen house! Obama thinks all Americans are fools.

Barack Obama has angered one group of Americans he will soon wish he had not: The “Honorably discharged veterans of the Special Operations communities of all the Armed Services” who are now using their intelligence, skills, and experience to “organize and execute operations designed to help elect Mitt Romney and to defeat Barack Hussein Obama.” PERIOD.

These veterans recently formed the “Special Operations Speaks” (“SOS”) organization and website (still evolving). One of their five listed “Raisons d’etre” (reasons for being) is that, “No one foreign or domestic should endanger the secrets, methods or targets of Special Operations” (the inference being that the current commander in chief is included). Their stated mission is as follows:

Honorably discharged veterans of the Special Operations communities of all the Armed Services have organized an effort to elect Mitt Romney President of the United States. This group, “Special Operations Speaks,” or “SOS,” will be structured along quasi-military lines, with an umbrella organization coordinating the efforts of several subordinate Service-unique specialties. The Army will be represented by “Rangers Speak Out” and “Green Berets Speak Out;” the Navy by “SEALs Speak Out;” the Air Force by “Air Commandos Speak Out;” and the Marine Corps by “MARSOC Speaks out.”

SOS is configured as a “Super Political Action Committee” (Super PAC) that will enable it to exert maximum influence as an advocate for the election of Mitt Romney as President of the United States. Subsequent to the 2012 campaign, SOS will continue to exert pressure on behalf of the Special Operations community.

Of particular interest to SOS is the urgency of maintaining the level of secrecy that has heretofore been a hallmark of Special Operations. The recent leaking of highly classified information from the offices of the Commander-in-Chief himself clearly indicates the need to protect sensitive information from the public (and enemy’s) eye. SOS will educate the public and its representatives in the US Congress about this issue.

Until November 6, 2012, SOS will organize and execute operations designed to help elect Mitt Romney and to defeat Barack Hussein Obama.

* * * * * ACTION NEEDED * * * * *

SPECIAL OPERATIONS SPEAKS is asking that as many of us as possible sign their petition to U.S. Representative Peter T. King, Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, requesting that he exercise his authority to open hearings into the many leaks of highly sensitive classified information.

PLEASE take 55 seconds to read and sign this important petition here: SIGN OUR PETITION (by SOS)

Personal Request: I consider this petition to be crucial in holding President Barack Obama accountable and responsible for the many serious leaks and breaches originating within his administration. Please ask all your friends, associates, and family members to sign the SOS petition. And THANK YOU!

Two Fmr Secty’s of State, Condoleeza Rice & George Shultz, Endorse Romney

At a fundraiser in California last night, Condoleeza Rice, former Secretary of State under President George W. Bush, and George Shultz, former Secretary of State under President Ronald Reagan, officially backed Governor Mitt Romney’s bid for the White House:

A few comments from Rice:

“It’s a delight to see so many friends…I’ve now been out of Washington for over three years…how much fun it is when you know you could be in Washington, but you’re here. My life has changed a lot. Now, I get up in the morning and I read the newspaper and I say…isn’t that interesting? “Because I’m no longer responsible for what’s in it.”

“We care about the future of this country, and the future of our world,’’ she said, and I’m “delighted to join so many friends here in supporting, and in my case, endorsing, Gov. Mitt Romney for President of the United States.”

“Today, more than ever, we need U.S. leadership to affirm that the future belongs to free markets and free peoples.”

“To regain that leadership, we’ve got to first and foremost defend the country,’’ she said. After 911, the country was safe because “it was not because the terrorists weren’t trying, it was because of the vigilance…because men and women volunteer to defend us at the front lines of freedom, and we owe them our eternal gratitude.”

More Rice: “We have to defend the country, not just from strength and power, but from a sense of values of who we are,’’ she said. “Friends, who just want to know, that when the chips are down, we are going to be there for them….and that indeed we know the difference between friend and foe.”

More Rice: “The President of the United States has to understand that the American people have a view…and that our leadership can not be (reduced to) “the lowest common denominator postions.”

“The only thing the American people dislike more” than weak leadership, she said, “is no leadership at all.”

“America’s leadership “is craved in the world, and Gov. Romney, you can bring it back,’’ she said to applause. . . .

A few comments from Shultz:

George Shultz and President Ronald Reagan

George Shultz, secretary of state under Ronald Reagan, also endorsed the presumptive nominee at the fundraiser. In his speech, he defended Romney’s record as an executive at Bain Capital LLC, a Boston-based private equity firm.

“What he has done at Bain Capital has been a major contribution to the American economy,” said Shultz, who also served in the cabinet of Richard Nixon with Romney’s father, George.

Venture capital firms “help make our economy more competitive; they learn how to keep costs under control; they are the kind of people who help figure out where to put investments,” Shultz said.

“He has learned and instinctively can feel what it takes to get this huge amount of money that is sitting on the sidelines of our economy to move forward and invest,” he said.

These two endorsements – from two of America’s most powerful and respected arbiters of foreign policy – are very significant pluses for Governor Romney.
