Mitt Romney will not raise taxes on the middle class, nor will he lower the tax contributions of the most wealthy!
Today, David Gregory interviewed Mitt and Ann Romney on Meet the Press (see the full interview below). This is the first time in the history of Meet the Press that the wife of a a Presidential Candidate was also interviewed. And in spite of Gregory’s continued public pursuit of an agenda seemingly shaped by the disbelieving and jaundiced left, both Mitt and Ann Romney revealed their true character, charm, capacity and competence!
It is apparent that the media seems to struggle with the Romney’s constancy amid the situational standards of our society – the anomalous Romney’s live and serve by constants and principles of integrity and truth with a sincere and tangible sense of duty. They do not succumb to the typical political pandering and posturing we see in many of today’s politicians. It is human nature to project on others what we see in ourselves, hence the media’s challenge with Mitt and Ann Romney. What the media tries to project on Mitt and Ann is wholly inconsistent with who Mitt and Ann are. We get a sense that the media is so blinded by the beams in their own eyes that they struggle to see the sincere strength and resolute nature of Mitt and Ann Romney, and their foundations for dutiful service; they are truly committed to a cause greater than self. Mitt stated such in his interview – it is about serving the nation, fixing our economy and restoring foundational principles of freedom and liberty! No more, no less.
Ann expressed how life’s experiences are tutorial in shaping our capacity to empathize with those in need, and to the surprise of the interviewer it had nothing to do with our station in life. As a cancer survivor I get it! Ann Romney, and Mitt by virtue of shared experiences with Ann, clearly understand the suffering of others and how to succor and serve those in need. Further, after the Republican Convention in Tampa and the tender expressions of so many touched by Mitt and Ann Romney, the story of unpurchased service by the Romney’s should no longer be challenged, but elevated as an example for all to follow. Bill Bennett said it best today after the Meet the Press interview; paraphrased, conservatives are more charitable and more giving, they are more willing to offer selfless compassionate service than their liberal counterparts. If anyone wants to consider the point, look to the charitable service and contributions of the Romney’s compared to that of the Obama’s and Biden’s combined. The liberals seem to want to be far more generous with the taxpayer’s money (our money) than their own.
Mr. Gregory then began to press Governor Romney on his economic recovery/jobs plan, seeking for greater granularity. I find it fascinating that when Mitt Romney put a 59 point plan together the media was cynical; when he distilled it down to a more simple five point plan, they demanded more specifics. It is clear that the media is lacking in its capacity to understand, or they just have a specific agenda as the PR machine for the sitting President.
The message came through loud and clear from Mitt Romney today, as it was repeated no less than three times – Mitt Romney will not raise taxes on the middle class, nor will he lower the tax contributions of the most wealthy! Among other things, Mitt went on to juxtapose his foreign policy agenda against Obama’s biggest foreign policy failure, a nuclear Iran.
What I find of interest is a want from the media for Mitt Romney to be granular in his plans without a similar press to Obama, who has yet to present a credible budget in 4 years, or a plan to fix our economy, and he is the President of the United States! What I do know is that I can look to Mitt Romney’s track record and history and know that he will govern and execute a plan based upon principles and pragmatism. He has done it innumerable times and will apply the same disciplines as President. His past is prologue which is equally said for Obama. Only in Mitt Romney’s case his past successes are prologue for future successes, and Obama’s past failures are prologue for future failures.
The back-to-school season is here, and as parents take their children to shop for school supplies, I suspect that many of them will be visiting a Staples store. I’m very familiar with those stores because Staples is one of many businesses we helped create and expand at Bain Capital, a firm that my colleagues and I built. The firm succeeded by growing and fixing companies.
The lessons I learned over my 15 years at Bain Capital were valuable in helping me turn around the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. They also helped me as governor of Massachusetts to turn a budget deficit into a surplus and reduce our unemployment rate to 4.7%. The lessons from that time would help me as president to fix our economy, create jobs and get things done in Washington.
A broad message emerges from my Bain Capital days: A good idea is not enough for a business to succeed. It requires a talented team, a good business plan and capital to execute it. That was true of companies we helped start, like Staples and the Bright Horizons child-care provider, and several of the struggling companies we helped turn around, like the Brookstone retailer and the contact-lens maker Wesley Jessen.
My presidency would make it easier for entrepreneurs and small businesses to get the investment dollars they need to grow, by reducing and simplifying taxes; replacing Obamacare with real health-care reform that contains costs and improves care; and by stemming the flood of new regulations that are tying small businesses in knots.
My business experience confirmed my belief in empowering people. For example, at Bain Capital we bought Accuride, a company that made truck rims and wheels, because we saw untapped potential there. We instituted performance bonuses for the management team, which had a dramatic impact. The managers made the plants more productive, and the company started growing, adding 300 jobs while Bain was involved. My faith in people, not government, is at the foundation of my plan to strengthen America’s middle class.
I also saw firsthand through these investments how energy costs impact the ability of a business to grow. Today, energy costs are weighing on job creators across America because President Obama has limited energy exploration and restricted development in ways that sap economic performance, curtail growth, and kill jobs. I will take a sensible approach to tapping our energy resources, which will both create jobs and make energy more affordable for every sector of our economy.
In the 1990s, when the “old-technology” steel industry in the U.S. was failing, Bain Capital helped build a new steel company, Steel Dynamics, which has grown into one of the largest steel producers in America today, holding its own against Chinese producers. The key to its success? State-of-the-art new technology.
Here are two lessons from the Steel Dynamics story: First, innovation is essential to the competitiveness of U.S. manufacturing. We are the most innovative, entrepreneurial nation in the world. To maintain that lead, we must give people the skills to succeed. My plan for a stronger middle class includes policies to give every family access to great schools and quality teachers, to improve access to higher education, and to attract and retain the best talent from around the world.
The second lesson is that we must have a level playing field in international trade. As president, I will challenge unfair trade practices that are harming American workers.
Running a business also brings lessons in tackling challenges. I was on the board of a medical diagnostic-laboratory company, Damon, when a competitor announced that it had settled with the government over a charge of fraudulent Medicare billing. I and fellow Damon outside board members joined together and immediately hired an independent law firm to examine Damon’s own practices.
The investigation revealed a need to make some changes, which we did. The company, along with several other clinical-laboratory companies, ended up being fined for billing practices. And a Damon manager who was responsible for the fraud went to jail. The experience taught me that when you see a problem, run toward it or it will only get worse.
That will be my approach to our federal budget problem. I am committed to capping federal spending below 20% of GDP and reducing nondefense discretionary spending by 5%. This will surely result in much wailing and gnashing of teeth in Washington. But a failure of leadership has created our debt crisis, and ducking responsibility will only cripple the economy and smother opportunity for our children and grandchildren.
I’m not sure Bain Capital could have grown or turned around some of the companies we invested in had we faced today’s anti-business environment. Andy Puzder, the chief executive of CKE Restaurants Inc., which employs about 21,000 people at Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s restaurants, has said that the “current unfriendly economic environment perhaps best explains why American companies are sitting on over $2 trillion which they could invest.”
President Obama has piled on excessive regulations, proposed massive tax increases, added more than $5 trillion in federal debt, and failed to address the coming fiscal cliff—all of which is miring our nation in sluggish growth and high unemployment.
I know what it takes to turn around difficult situations. And I will put that experience to work, to get our economy back on track, create jobs, strengthen the middle class and lay the groundwork for America’s increased competitiveness in the world.
A few comments from Paul Johnson, if you’ll indulge, about why what Mitt says is so important:
1. Mitt’s succeeded before. We have some serious problems, but Mitt has displayed an unusual ability to solve difficult issues. From his tenure at Bain, to establishing and turning around other companies, to turning around the Olympics, Mitt Romney knows success and how to replicate it. (more…)

Today we heard substantive words we’ve been waiting to hear…
Mitt Romney has a WALLOPING energy independence plan for the USA!
Revving up the crowd in oil-producing town Hobbs, New Mexico, Governor Romney unveiled his BOLD new direction for ending America’s dependence on foreign oil – and more. Choosing Watson Truck & Supply Co., a trucking, oil, and field service company as his backdrop, Romney spoke of getting America energy independent by 2020. It lit the audience on fire.
A portion of his speech:
Governor Romney: “Three million jobs come back to this country by taking advantage of something we have right underneath our feet. That’s oil, and gas, and coal. We’re going to make it happen. We’re going to create those jobs. Let me tell you what else it does. It adds $500 billion to the size of our economy. That is more good wages. That’s an opportunity for more Americans to have a bright and prosperous future. It also means, by the way, tens of billions, potentially hundreds of billions of dollars, of tax revenues going into states and the federal government which can make sure we have a military second to none and schools that lead the world and care for our seniors, better roads and bridges. Accomplishing what I’ve described right there also means lower energy prices for American families and by the way, for American businesses, so that as businesses are thinking about where to build a factory and they look at the cost of production, let’s say, of a particular product, and they look at the energy cost, they see that here in North America, we have ample energy and it is low cost. And that will bring businesses back here. So you are going to see more manufacturing come back to the United States as a result of doing what is so clearly in our best interest.”

UPDATE – PDF ‘The Romney Plan for a stronger Middle Class: ENERGY INDEPENDENCE’
“It is achievable,” Romney said while flanked by heavy equipment used for oil exploration at a trucking facility. “This is not some pie in the sky kind of thing. This is a real, achievable objective.”
Romney’s slimmed-down six-point plan, previewed to reporters Wednesday evening, revolves around increasing domestic oil and gas production in order to spur job growth, while reducing red tape and streamlining federal regulations he argues hinder growth.
Among his proposals, Romney called for increased offshore drilling along the continental shelf, reducing wait times for drilling permits on federally controlled lands, and completing the Keystone XL pipeline to bring in oil from Canada – a constant criticism from Romney who has called its approval “a no brainer.”
The increased production, according a briefing paper released by the Romney campaign, will create 3 million jobs – 1 million of them in the manufacturing sector – and upwards of $500 billion in additional Gross Domestic Product. And for cash strapped municipalities and states, they argue it will increase tax revenues by up to $1 trillion over 10-years.
“That’s more good wages,” Romney said. “That’s an opportunity for more Americans to have a bright and prosperous future.”
In addition to the 15 million barrels already produced in the US daily, Romney said his proposals would produce 2 million barrels from off shore drilling, 2 million barrels from “tight” oil production – oil reached through horizontal drilling and “fracking” – 1 million barrels of bio diesel, and another 2 million barrels in natural gas. The extra production, Romney argues, would leave North America completely self-sufficient.
“The net of all this, as you can see, is by 2020, we’re able to produce somewhere between 23 and 28 million barrels per day of oil and we won’t need to buy any oil from the Middle East or Venezuela or anywhere else that we don’t want to,” Romney said.
Obama’s main energy focus has been on renewable energy and awarding outlandish amounts of taxpayer money to his ‘green‘ cronies – money which has mostly gone *poof* into thin air with few, if any, results – or went to foreign companies. And, surprise! As it turns out, Obama’s so-called “independent” energy loan watchdog, Herb Allison, is an Obama guy and is donating money to reelect him.
Contrary to all the facts and figures Obama is now spouting about his superb energy record, our President implemented a No New Access Energy Plan. Plus, remember back in 2008 when Obama said under his Administration’s policies that coal plants would go bankrupt? Once elected, he sicced the EPA on that right away. Don’t forget Obama’s billions of dollars loan to Brazil to develop their off-shore drilling (while suppressing U.S. off-shore permits) assuring them America would buy their oil. Guess what? Brazil’s oil is going to… CHINA. (Smell a rat? Go see the movie 2016: Obama’s America to understand why Obama does what he does. I guarantee your eyes will be opened.)
Love this photo and these guys! Romney greets some of America’s energy heroes – coal miners – who lined up earlier in the day to support him at his rally at American Energy Corp in Beallsville, Ohio on Aug 14, 2012. (Photo – Toledo Blade)
Romney also approves of renewables, but has the common sense to know that repressing fossil fuels in the hope that windmills and sunbeams will magically supply America’s commercial, military, and private sector needs is short-sighted and very foolish. Obama’s energy actions have STUNTED America and heaped more bills on the mountain of bills he’s racked up for U.S. citizens to pay. Sixteen TRILLION dollars of debt… coming soon to America!
Many Americans have been anxiously awaiting the day we develop our own energy sources in such a capacity that we no longer have to kowtow to oil cartels. Romney’s full-scope, forward-thinking plan to unleash the natural resources we’ve been blessed with, in an expedited yet responsible way, along with the massive resultant benefits, is VERY GOOD NEWS.
Sean Hannity welcomed Governor Mitt Romney to his radio program yesterday to talk about an article released yesterday by the Romney press team titled The Truth Hurts. For weeks Obama and surrogates have been telling lies about Romney’s record; this fact-filled article debunks Team Obama’s despicable distortions and fabrications.
Romney called in from Grand Junction, Colorado; you don’t want to miss this excellent interview:
A few highlights from Romney…
@ 2:19 – The challenge for this president is in a lot of respects he’s an old-style Democrat; the old liberals were always in favor of more government programs, more spending, more borrowing when things were difficult. And, we’ve found that has not worked. The right course for America is not to raise taxes on people, not to go out and borrow excessively, but instead to live within our means and to have tax policies that encourage job creators and small businesses to grow their business and add employees.
@7:30 – I have a five-step plan to see jobs recover in this country.
1. Take advantage of our energy resources – oil, coal, gas, renewables.
2. Open trade – particularly in Latin America and crack down on China when they cheat.
3. Put us on track to have a balanced budget.
4. Make sure we have schools and training programs that prepare us for the jobs of today and tomorrow.
5. Restore economic freedom in this country. The taxes, the regulations, the burdens applied by government are crushing economic freedom, are crushing entrepreneurs. That has to end. We have to restore the American dream or our economy will stay in the doldrums.
@9:45 – …I would make the Bush tax cuts permanent, but then go to work to reform our tax code altogether…
@11:28 – Isn’t it amazing that the President of the United States – who by the way, called me and congratulated me when I got a pretty good lock on the nomination – he called me and said, “The country is going to benefit by an honest and important debate on the future direction of the country.“ That’s what he said. And yet, what he has done has been one attack after the other on items that deflect interest from a real debate on the issues the nation faces. This most recent one suggesting that I would engage in something that is illegal, that is criminal, that I would hide assets and not pay fair taxes, not pay the taxes that are owed – I mean it’s unbelievable. He said, “Well, it’s a matter of transparency.” Well, how about the transparency of a president who through executive privilege is preventing the American people from finding out what happened in the Fast & Furious program? If there is transparency that needs to be condemned here it’s the lack of transparency in his administration to let the American people know what has happened in a scandalous activity known as Fast & Furious. So Sean, I can assure you of this – I have followed the law, I have paid my taxes as due, I have also disclosed through all the requirements of the government every asset which I own – fairly and honestly – recognizing, of course, not to do so would be not only wrong, but illegal and criminal. It is this president however, that must explain why he has resorted to executive privilege to hide from the American people the truth about Fast & Furious.
UPDATE – After delivering his speech today to the NAACP, Romney was interviewed by Neil Cavuto (FOX News). The Hill reports:
Romney also discussed the state of the campaign, downplaying concerns voiced by some Republicans that his campaign had not been aggressive enough in combating attacks from Democrats. But Romney said his campaign was better served by trying to focus on issues they saw as relevant to voters.
“I respond to the attacks that come, but they say in politics if you are responding, you are losing,” Romney said. “I think the better course for our campaign is to respond to the attacks as being completely off-base. People are tired of this petty attack that comes from politicians and they want to see someone who talks about the issues they care about.”
Romney also dismissed calls from the Obama campaign to release additional years of tax returns, calling the issue a distraction. The Obama campaign issued a new commercial Wednesday calling on Romney to disclose more information about his financial holdings.
“The Democrats are always going to be critics,” Romney said. “We have released all of the financial statements required by law and two years of tax returns. The most recent year we will be releasing as soon as that’s prepared. Tax information is there, other financial disclosure is there; the same level of information that [Sens.] John McCain [(R-Ariz.)] and John Kerry [(D-Mass.)] for that matter released when they were running for president.”
Let’s get the truth out there! Share far and wide The Truth Hurts and this interview.
Whacked with yesterday’s woeful jobs report, President Obama traveled to Minnesota to jazz up voters and remind America of his current economic stimulus strategy. He pushed his going-nowhere-in-congress mortgage refinance redistributionist strategy. You know, the one he hyped in his last State of the Union address.
Well, yesterday Obama upped the ante.
To prove he’s a real solutions guy – someone who really thinks out of the box – he went a step further by proposing a groundbreaking new idea…
“Buy furnace thingamajigs.”
“I assume there are some folks here who could use $3,000 a year,” Obama said. “Let’s get that done right now. That means they’re — you know, if you got $3,000 a year extra, that helps you pay down your credit cards. That helps you go out and buy some things that your family needs. Which is good for business. Maybe somebody will be replacing some thingamajig for their furnace. They’ve been putting that off. but they got that extra money, they might just go out there and buy that thing.” ~ Barack Obama, June 1, 2012
Oh, yeah. That’s the solution. Let’s get that done right now.
Reminds me of another one of Obama’s brilliant ideas.
In the summer of 2008, while running for president, Obama revealed his energy plan for America. A plan where “we could save ALL the oil they’re talking about getting off drilling”:
“Inflate your tires.”
Looks like this isn’t going to be another one of Obama/Biden’s “summers of recovery.”
It’s going to be the whizbang summer of distraction with doohickeys, whatchamacallits, whoseamajiggers, and thingamabobs.
UPDATE! Mitt Romney responds to today’s dismal jobs report:
ANOTHER MONTH OF DEVASTATING ECONOMIC NEWS FOR AMERICAN WORKERS, FAMILIES
“Today’s weak jobs report is devastating news for American workers and American families. This week has seen a cascade of one bad piece of economic news after another. Slowing GDP growth, plunging consumer confidence, an increase in unemployment claims, and now another dismal jobs report all stand as a harsh indictment of the President’s handling of the economy. It is now clear to everyone that President Obama’s policies have failed to achieve their goals and that the Obama economy is crushing America’s middle class. The President’s re-election slogan may be ‘forward,’ but it seems like we’ve been moving backward. We can do so much better in America. That’s why I’m running for president.” –Mitt Romney

The U.S. Dept. of Labor today released the jobs report for April. Not good, folks.
155,000 jobs were hoped for; only 69,000 jobs were added to the U. S. economy last month. Unemployment has risen to 8.2%. At the first of the year, we were barely breathing at around 200,000 jobs created per month. In April, that number was almost cut in half at around 100,000 jobs created. (Numbers for March and April were revised to reveal unemployment was more prevalent than originally reported.) We are weak and getting weaker. Today’s numbers are almost halved again. Long-term unemployment jumped up by 300,000 last month, as well. Factoring in the UNDER-employed, the real number is at 14.8%. The labor participation rate is clinging to 63.8%, meaning 36.2% are not participating; they’ve given up.
Obama’s economic policies just aren’t cutting the mustard and Americans are not only sick with worry, they’re furious.
Romney for President keeps churning out timely, hard-hitting web ads. Today, they released a new web video using footage from Governor Mitt Romney’s press conference yesterday near Silicon Valley in Fremont, CA. (The image of Romney standing front of bankrupt Solyndra spoke volumes.)
In case you’ve forgotten:
The Obama Administration loaned $535 million to Solyndra – which later went bankrupt and laid Off 1,100 employees. “In a blow to the Obama administration’s efforts to create green jobs, solar-cell maker Solyndra announced Wednesday that it will close its remaining Fremont factory, lay off its 1,100 employees and file for bankruptcy. The news marked an abrupt end for a company once considered among the most innovative in a fast-changing industry. The bankruptcy also represents a high-profile failure for a federal stimulus program that gives loan guarantees to green-tech manufacturers. Solyndra was the first company to win one of the guarantees, receiving $535 million in 2009 to build its second factory in Fremont less than a mile from the company’s original plant.” (David R. Baker and Carolyn Said, “Solyndra Closes Fremont Plant – Stimulus Hopes Dim,” San Francisco Chronicle, 9/1/11)
Romney’s new video is aptly titled Symbol of Failure:
Two years ago, President Obama went to Solyndra and touted it as an example of his initiative to create jobs. Today, the company is bankrupt and the building stands empty as a symbol of the failure of President Obama’s policies.
“Free enterprise to the president means taking money from the taxpayers and giving it freely to his friends.” ~ Mitt Romney, press conference May 31, 2012
Did you happen to watch CNN last night? Former President Bill Clinton was speaking with Harvey Weinstein when he kicked the legs out from under Obama’s main campaign strategy to slice and dice Romney’s record as a businessman:
“So I don’t think that we ought to get in the position where we say this is bad work, this is good work. I think, however, the real issue ought to be what has Governor Romney advocated in the campaign that he will do as president? What has President Obama done and what does he propose to do? How do these things stack up against each other, that’s the most relevant thing. There’s no question that in terms of getting up and going to the office, and you know, basically performing the essential functions of the office, a man who has been governor and had a sterling business career crosses the qualification threshold.”
Thanks for the straight talk, Bill!
UPDATE – Speaking this afternoon on Your World with Neal Cavuto (FOX News), former Democratic pollster Pat Caddell said “Clinton has just done enormous damage to President Obama. … He has just put a torpedo right into the Obama campaign. This is as bad as it gets.”
Townhall’s Mona Charen pretty much summarizes it for me today. She writes about the “straws in the wind” Obama campaign – how bad it’s going. She can add today’s stuck-in-the-mud jobs report to her list.
In an unprecedented action from a sitting president, President Obama lurched straight out of the campaign gate a few weeks ago with a barrage of negative ads against Mitt Romney. At every opportunity, he headbutts private equity/venture capitalists and Romney’s 80% success rate at Bain Capital. Obama says this is his reelection focus. (Don’t look America… Obama raised funds from a private equity group he previously attacked.) The once-resounding Obama message of hope and change isn’t even whispered anymore.
You know it’s bad when even left-leaning ‘Face the Nation’s’ Bob Schieffer notices Obama’s negativity.
Romney’s new web ad, released today, shows he’s noticed, too. It targets the real cause of Obama’s headaches – his borrow-and-tax policies which have lead to… nowhere: Solyndra, First Solar, ECOtality, and SunPower.
Not Even Half
The facts, Ma’am:
► The Obama Administration Loaned Over Half A Billion Dollars To Solyndra – Which Later Went Bankrupt And Laid Off 1,100 Employees.
“In a blow to the Obama administration’s efforts to create green jobs, solar-cell maker Solyndra announced Wednesday that it will close its remaining Fremont factory, layoff its 1,100 employees and file for bankruptcy.
► The Obama Administration Provided More Than $3 Billion In Loan Guarantees That Benefitted First Solar – A Company That Recently Announced Layoffs And Hit Record Lows In Stock Value.
“First Solar. The Obama administration provided First Solar with more than $3 billion in loan guarantees for power plants in Arizona and California. According to a Bloomberg Businessweek report last week, the company ‘fell to a record low in Nasdaq Stock Market trading May 4 after reporting $401 million in restructuring costs tied to firing 30 percent of its workforce.’” (Marc A. Thiessen, “Forget Bain — Obama’s Public-Equity Record Is The Real Scandal,” The Washington Post, 5/24/12)
► After Receiving Approximately $126 Million In Taxpayer Money, ECOtality Has “Incurred More Than $45 Million In Losses.”
The Obama administration gave ECOtality $126.2 million in taxpayer money in 2009 for, among other things, the installation of 14,000 electric car chargers in five states. Obama even hosted the company’s president, Don Karner, in the first lady’s box during the 2010 State of the Union address as an example of a stimulus success story. According to ECOtality’s own SEC filings, the company has since incurred more than $45 million in losses and has told the federal government, ‘We may not achieve or sustain profitability on a quarterly or annual basis in the future.’” (Marc A. Thiessen, “Forget Bain — Obama’s Public-Equity Record Is The Real Scandal,” The Washington Post, 5/24/12)
ECOtality Is Currently “Under Investigation For Insider Trading.” “Worse, according to CBS News the company is ‘under investigation for insider trading,’ and Karner has been subpoenaed ‘for any and all documentation surrounding the public announcement of the first Department of Energy grant to the company.’” (Marc A. Thiessen, “Forget Bain — Obama’s Public-Equity Record Is The Real Scandal,” The Washington Post, 5/24/12)
► “A Company Called SunPower Got A $1.2 Billion Loan Guarantee From The Obama Administration…”
“This is just the tip of the iceberg. A company called SunPower got a $1.2 billion loan guarantee from the Obama administration, and as of January, the company owed more than it was worth.” (Marc A. Thiessen, “Forget Bain — Obama’s Public-Equity Record Is The Real Scandal,” The Washington Post, 5/24/12)
► In 2011, SunPower Lost More Than Half A Billion Dollars And Announced Layoffs.
“Now, San Jose’s SunPower, another solar panel maker, has hit rough waters — a $370 million quarterly loss — which will trigger layoffs and the exit of two top executives. SunPower CEO [Werner] thinks a turn-around won’t happen overnight. ‘We see this as a year to maybe two years, and then we see significant demand, a resumption in significant demand growth,’ Werner said. But the slowdown in sales and a flood of low-cost panels coming in from China have extended SunPower’s losses this year past a half-billion dollars.” (David Louie, “CA’s Solar Industry Continues To Show Signs Of Distress,” KGO-TV [San Francisco, CA], 11/4/11)
► “$16.4 Billion Of The $20.5 Billion In Loans Granted As Of Sept. 15 Went To Companies Either Run By Or Primarily Owned By Obama Financial Backers.”
“In the 1705 government-backed-loan program, for example, $16.4 billion of the $20.5 billion in loans granted as of Sept. 15 went to companies either run by or primarily owned by Obama financial backers-individuals who were bundlers, members of Obama’s National Finance Committee, or large donors to the Democratic Party.” (Peter Schweizer, “Obama Campaign Backers And Bundlers Rewarded With Green Grants And Loans,” Newsweek, 11/12/11)
► The Energy Department’s Inspector General Found That Contracts Were Steered To “Friends And Family.”
“The Department of Energy’s inspector general, Gregory Friedman, who was not a political appointee, chastised the alternative-energy loan and grant programs for their absence of ‘sufficient transparency and accountability.’ He has testified that contracts have been steered to ‘friends and family.’” (Peter Schweizer, “Obama Campaign Backers And Bundlers Rewarded With Green Grants And Loans,” Newsweek, 11/12/11)

Remember, Remember! This has been a weekend of tender remembrance and reflection on the precious treasure spilt in defending our freedoms and liberties. To each who has given the ultimate sacrifice, even their very lives, in preserving and defending our freedoms; to their families and to each of the willing who has served or is serving, words are wholly inadequate. Even so, THANK YOU!
Given the sacrifices born for our freedom, we not only need to be appreciative and grateful, but responsible and accountable to the price paid for freedom. Therefore, as we consider the choices before us in the current Presidential election, may we further consider certain constants or truths that may be applicable in our pondering, and hopefully help shape our decision in the course forward? Some constants that have come to mind this weekend, to consider in our choice:
“Flattery and cunning words are the tools most often used to gain power, advantage, influence and control.”
“What you do speaks so loud; I cannot hear what you say.”
“By their fruits ye shall know them.”
In November, America faces a ‘defining moment’, an inflection point where we are making a choice, not just for an economic turnaround, but a choice for our very freedoms and liberty. We are choosing a leader who will either, guide our nation with experience and integrity, and abide an agenda that preserves our exceptionalism and freedom, or a ‘leader’ who, with flattery and guile, subtly advocates an ideology that seeks to destroy the very fabric of our Nation’s foundation – our freedom, liberty and exceptionalism.
Disappointed as I was with the outcome of the elections in 2008, I deemed Barack Obama a good man, but one unprepared and untested to lead. After all, with little experience, how much damage could he really do? Was I ever wrong! Look how far we are off course because of his incompetence, or his duplicity, or both?
It reminds of the boiling frog where the water temperature subtly rises without warning until it is too late. The frog enjoys the warmth with mediocrity unknowing what is about to befall him in his ultimate demise. Wake up America!
Let’s take a look at Barack Obama unplugged and revealed –
Referencing the worst President in history for business, in the American Spectator, Gary Shapiro addresses a list of 50 things (could be more) Obama has done in the past three years to undermine our economic fabric, HERE.
The Republican National Committee further provides a brief glimpse at Obama gone wild when it comes to the discipline, or lack thereof, of managing our economy below – willful intent, duplicity, incompetence? You choose!
As telling and revealing as these things are, consider “The Obama Constants” and applications below. In each instance, there is more that could be said.
Flattery: President Obama seems to heap flattery upon selected American societies hopeful that they will be blinded by his praise and turn a contrary course against another. The President’s unstated objective of waging class warfare for preserving his position as POTUS is offensive at best.
(Definition – a compliment or speech; excessive, insincere praise. Synonyms – sycophancy, toadying, fawning, pandering. Constant – Flattery and cunning words are the tools most often used to gain power, advantage, influence and control.)
Duplicity/Guile: President Obama has stated that his Presidency would be the most transparent of any in American history – it has been anything but transparent. Whether in the advocacy of Obamacare, or management of foreign policy, Obama has stated one thing and done the opposite. His social mandate on the Catholic Church contrary to their tenets while proffering otherwise; his statement to Medvedev on a ‘hot’ microphone and the subsequent cover-up; his appointment of czars to get around the Constitutional checks and balances of Congress; in each case, Obama has pursued a secret agenda contrary to transparency.
(Definition – insidious cunning in attaining a goal; crafty or artful deception; duplicity; deceitfulness in speech or conduct, as by speaking or acting in two different ways to different people concerning the same matter; double-dealing. Synonyms – deceit, deception, dissimulation, fraud, hypocrisy, trickery. Constants – What you do speaks so loud; I cannot hear what you say. By their fruits ye shall know them.)
Hypocrisy: President and Mrs. Obama advocate for provident and responsible living for all Americans while they choose to live lavishly on the backs of the American people – citing the 16+ vacations costing taxpayers millions, and millions of dollars. It seems that the Obama’s find comfort in a “let them eat cake” mindset. Further, President Obama amazingly stated that sometimes he even forgets that Americans are suffering a recession; really? (see previous post here). President Obama’s attacks on American enterprise and private equity are unequaled and duplicitous at best; and yet, he has no qualms about ‘public equity’ wherein he invests America’s dollars into his ‘crony capital’ equity projects, i.e., Solyndra, Fisker and others – to what end? If given a choice of who I would trust with America’s dollars, it is Mitt Romney. Mitt Romney’s return on capital investment to his investors far surpasses anything President Obama could hope for, thankfully. President Obama’s failure to understand economics is irresponsible – he fails to understand simple economics, that in wealth creation, jobs are created – they are inextricably linked.
(Definition – a pretense of having a virtuous character, moral or religious beliefs or principles, etc., that one does not really possess. 2. a pretense of having some desirable or publicly approved attitude. Synonym – deceit. Constants – What you do speaks so loud; I cannot hear what you say. By their fruits ye shall know them.)
Indecisive: Throughout Barack Obama’s term as President he has and continues to vacillate on important decisions, even being pressed by his advisors on certain key decisions like pursuing Osama Bin Laden and others. Obama’s vacillation on the Arab Spring and other critical foreign policy matters has undermined America’s leadership position in the world; why else have we seen a diminishing of respect for America? Our President has not held constant to our core principles and values, and has undermined us by apology and subordination. When leadership and decisiveness were needed most critically at the beginning of his term, in dealing with our economy and domestic policy, he deferred to Congress (Pelosi and Reid) while opting for his ‘apology tour’. His lack of resolve on our deficit and spending has left us without, economically; his failure to be decisive is an unbridled failure of leadership and exposes his inexperience and incapacity to serve as POTUS. Never has one been so ill-prepared.
(Definition – characterized by indecision, as persons; irresolute; undecided. Synonyms – vacillating, hesitant, wavering. Constants – What you do speaks so loud; I cannot hear what you say. By their fruits ye shall know them.)
Most importantly – see the comparative illustrated below.
Thanks to Vic Lundquist for the link – this epitomizes the character comparative of pride vs humility/meekness. Like unto George Bush, Mitt Romney reflects humility.
Pride: With Obama, it is all about Obama! It doesn’t matter that the Navy SEALs took out Bin Laden, it was Obama who took credit. Is there anything he doesn’t take credit for, besides the economy which isn’t about him – it is Bush’s fault. Pride is a terrible disease and one of, if not the most destructive character traits an individual can aspire to, and is always preceded with the letter ‘I’. There is no letter ‘I’ in ‘we’. Contrarily, Mitt Romney, who has every basis for pride through his accomplishments, always defers to others and their successes.
(Definition – a high or inordinate opinion of one’s own dignity, importance, merit, or superiority, whether as cherished in the mind or as displayed in bearing, conduct, etc. the state or feeling of being proud. Synonyms – Pride, conceit, self-esteem, egotism, vanity, vainglory imply an unduly favorable idea of one’s own appearance, advantages, achievements, etc., and often apply to offensive characteristics. Pride is a lofty and often arrogant assumption of superiority in some respect: Pride must have a fall. Conceit implies an exaggerated estimate of one’s own abilities or attainments, together with pride: blinded by conceit. Self-esteem may imply an estimate of oneself that is higher than that held by others: a ridiculous self-esteem. Egotism implies an excessive preoccupation with oneself or with one’s own concerns, usually but not always accompanied by pride or conceit: His egotism blinded him to others’ difficulties. Vanity implies self-admiration and an excessive desire to be admired by others: His vanity was easily flattered. Vainglory, somewhat literary, implies an inordinate and therefore empty or unjustified pride: puffed up by vainglory. boast. Constants – What you do speaks so loud; I cannot hear what you say. By their fruits ye shall know them.)
A further comparative with Governor Romney will follow in a subsequent post, wherein we can compare with the same constants noted above.
Communications Director for re-elect Obama campaign
The once-Senior Adviser to Obama, now Communications Director for the President’s re-election campaign, David Axelrod, really did a blue ribbon job of communicating this morning…
He told the truth.
On FOX News Sunday with Chris Wallace, Axelrod made the case for electing Governor Mitt Romney:
“The choice in this election is between economy that produces a growing middle class and that gives people a chance to get ahead and their kids a chance to get ahead, and an economy that continues down the road we are on . . . ”
The Romney campaign, quick-as-lightning, released a video of Axelrod’s comments:
