Romney talks about the state of Obama on Hannity

November 18th, 2009 GOPToast Comments off
From GOPToast:
This is what a president should sound like. This is what a 2012 contender should sound like. In twelve minutes, Mitt Romney tackles just about every subject America is dealing with today, from the stateside trial of a terrorist mastermind to the economy to Afghanistan … to Sarah Palin. And he does it all without sounding petty or childish. Sarah Palin, this is how you move beyond 2008. Mike Huckabee, this is how you grow up and stop trying to start immature fights with people in your own party.

How many months away does everyone think we are from Romney finally confirming that he’s a candidate in 2012? After the elections next November? End of 2010?

Thanks to ComMITTed to Romney for landing to the audio.

One Nation Under God

November 8th, 2009 Jayde Wyatt Comments off

3517189322_5b7ab58f4bGiven all that is taking place in America, including yesterday’s approval vote of the Affordable Health Care for America Act H.R. 3962 (words that smear lipstick on a pig!) in the House of Representatives, it’s good to step back and reflect on the BIG picture. With that in mind, I want to share an interactive link to a magnificent piece of art that captures the tipping point in which we Americans now find ourselves.

Characterized as what may be the most important new painting of the 21st century, Artist Jon McNaughton’s One Nation Under God came as inspiration to him in the middle of the 2008 elections. The research for this amazing new work took McNaughton about six months to complete; the actual painting was a four month effort. According to the artist, he “had one shot at this and he had to get it right.”

Artist McNaughton describes his painting: “Christ is holding up the U.S. Constitution while behind him are the Founding Fathers and other patriotic heroes from the past two centuries speaking to us from the dust. (Note the symbolism of  dust at their feet.) They are asking us to remember the foundation of our country’s greatness and the liberties defined under the Constitution.”

Summarizing One Nation Under God as something “that would make people talk and think,” McNaughton emphasizes that he doesn’t want people to conclude from his painting that everyone in America has to be a Christian.  He wants his painting to express the origin of our nation’s strength.

Feast your eyes upon One Nation Under God here. Rich in symbolism, it includes over 60 images, including 40 patriotic heroes. McNaughton also depicts figures that lean toward socialism – which is contrary to his belief in the U.S. Constitution. As you run your cursor over each image, a description and reason why it was included in the painting is revealed on the right-hand side of your screen. Taking time to ponder this painting – even down to the scattered papers on the steps – will evoke feelings of deep appreciation for our beloved Republic, the United States Constitution, and the blessings of freedom. It also reminds that our independence and freedoms are eroding. It calls us to action.

“…We can be deeply thankful that we live in a land where reason and religion are friends and allies in the cause of liberty, joined against the evils and dangers of the day. And you can be certain of this: Any believer in religious freedom, any person who has knelt in prayer to the Almighty, has a friend and ally in me. And so it is for hundreds of millions of our countrymen: We do not insist on a single strain of religion — rather, we welcome our nation’s symphony of faith.

Recall the early days of the First Continental Congress in Philadelphia, during the fall of 1774. With Boston occupied by British troops, there were rumors of imminent hostilities and fears of an impending war. In this time of peril, someone suggested that they pray. But there were objections. They were too divided in religious sentiments, what with Episcopalians and Quakers, Anabaptists and Congregationalists, Presbyterians and Catholics.

Then Sam Adams rose, and said he would hear a prayer from anyone of piety and good character, as long as they were a patriot. And so together they prayed, and together they fought, and together, by the grace of God, they founded this great nation.

In that spirit, let us give thanks to the divine author of liberty. And together, let us pray that this land may always be blessed with freedom’s holy light.

God bless this great land, the United States of America.

May we never tire in upholding life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness while defending our United States Constitution.

The health care bill is now in debate and it will be called to a vote in just a few hours. Some reports are that Pelosi and Co. are looking quite confident. I’m feeling some intrepidation and anxiety. I’m wondering what you think the outcome will be:

What Will be the Result of Today's Vote on Health Care?

  • It will pass by more than 5 votes (16%, 6 Votes)
  • It will pass by 5 votes or less (24%, 9 Votes)
  • It will fail by 5 votes or less (24%, 9 Votes)
  • It will fail miserably by more than 5 votes (36%, 13 Votes)

KILL THE BILL!! – House Vote Expected on Health Care Tomorrow

November 6th, 2009 Nate Gunderson Comments off

pelosi-care-house-bill-3962

If you have not yet called any members of congress to express your disgust concerning this uber-expensive monstrosity of a bill known as H.R. 3962, the time is now! Nancy Pelosi has pressed to get a vote by this Saturday. There are rumors that it may not happen. Any delay is a small victory for conservatives. It means they don’t have the votes, otherwise they’d force it to the floor. Delay also means that the members of congress will go home and face their angry constituents again, and that’s something Pelosi can’t afford.

Some H.R. 3962 so-called Affordable Health Care for America Act quick facts:

  • Weighs in at a whopping 1990+ pages
  • 10 year cost estimate at least $1.4 TRILLION, some estimate $1.8T despite previous claims that it would be deficit neutral)
  • Benefits don’t begin until 2013 so that cost is actually for only 7 years of implementation
  • Vastly expands the federal government by adding DOZENS of new bureaucracies (one count was at 110!)
  • Includes a public option – the beginning of the end for private coverage
  • Includes job-killing employer mandates
  • Cuts benefit payments for Medicare by hundreds of billions
  • Individual and employer taxes, fines and penalties are all included, more are imminent
  • Does not contain clear language to forbid federal funding of abortion
  • Does bar illegal immigrants from getting coverage, but no ID verification is required
  • Does not open up insurance markets to sell across state line
  • Does not include any tort reform
  • Does not require members of congress to hold the same insurance it will implement on their constituents
  • Republican are unanimously opposed to it
  • Only 218 of the 258 Democrats need to vote yes for it to pass

Polls have shown that a majority of Americans are opposed to this Health Care Reform. Town Howlers and Tea Partiers have done much to discourage the bill and delay the vote. In fact some 25,000 folks attended an impromptu rally yesterday at the capitol. People left their work places, many traveled long distance to make their voices know heard in person to KILL THIS BILL. The least that you and I can do is to take a few minutes to call some representatives from the comfort of our own homes and and at no cost. Join the national outcry and help defeat this bill. If it goes down in defeat now it will be at least another 8-10 years until it will raises it’s ugly head again. Just think of the trillions of dollars that will be saved in the meantime.

At this point calling will be the most effective. Since all Republican are opposing it I would recommend calling Democrats to make your opposition known. You need not be from the their district to let your opinion be known, but many will refuse to hear you if you are not. Below is a list of the Blue Dog Democrats (50 or so), a fiscally conservative (or moderate) group of Democrats that are the most likely to be persuaded to vote against the bill. Many are in a rock and a hard place with the decision to stand up against their constituents or their party leadership. Nancy Pelosi is effectively asking them to walk the plank if they vote yes on this bill, because most will surely be fired in next years elections if they do. Call them up to convince them they should be more afraid of you than Nancy Pelosi!

Nancy Pelosi Lets the Bats Out of the Belfry

October 29th, 2009 Jayde Wyatt Comments off

bats in belfryA beaming Nancy Pelosi let the bats out of the belfry as she unveiled the HOUSE health care bill this morning. Claiming it will cost $900 billion over the next ten years (as if that’s some kind of bargain and Americans should be happy-dancing in the streets) we’ll see what the Congressional Budget Office has to say after the numbers are crunched. Including a government option and a requirement that all employers must provide health insurance, this batty bill is very similar to health care plans being developed by Senator Harry Reid (D-Nevada) who is working his own voodoo on combining bills passed by two committees.

READ Pelosi’s 1,990 page House Health Care bill here. Good luck! Hope you aren’t mummified before you finish.

From FOX News:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi unveiled a retooled health care overhaul plan Thursday intended to bridge differences among Democrats and open a history-making floor debate on extending health insurance to nearly all Americans.

Speaking on the West Front of the Capitol surrounded by Democratic lawmakers, Pelosi, D-Calif., said the House’s version of a health care reform bill will include a government-run insurance option and extend coverage to 36 million uninsured Americans. She said the bill will lower patient costs and reduce the national deficit.

“The Affordable Health Care Act will ensure, again, affordability for the middle class, security for our seniors, and responsibility to our children,” Pelosi said, adding that the legislation puts a major emphasis on preventative care.

Pelosi wants to have the legislation on the floor next week — with a final vote before Veterans Day, Nov. 11 — which would give President Obama a bill to sign by year’s end, numerous Democratic officials said.

The bill would require nearly everyone by 2013 to sign up through their employer, a government program or a new kind of purchasing pool called an exchange. Tax credits would be available for most of those buying coverage through the exchange. They would have the option of picking a new government plan or private insurance.

During the transition years from 2010-2013, a temporary government program would help people turned down by private insurers because of medical problems, lawmakers said. After that, insurers no longer could refuse to provide coverage to the sick, nor could they charge more because of poor health of the insured.

The plan also calls for a significant expansion of Medicaid, the federal-state health program for low-income people. And it would impose a requirement on employers to offer insurance to their workers or face penalties.

A concession to Democratic moderates appears to have cleared a path for Pelosi to move forward. Democratic leaders agreed to the moderates’ demand that the new government insurance plan must negotiate payment levels with hospitals and doctors, instead of imposing its rates, as liberal lawmakers would have preferred.

“This has always been a matter of trying to pull together 218 votes,” said Rep. Xavier Becerra, D-Calif

Romney Helps Raise $100,000 for Nebraska GOP

October 10th, 2009 Jayde Wyatt Comments off

jkl;As the keynote speaker at a Founders’ Day dinner in Omaha, Nebraska last night, former Governor Mitt Romney continues to be a big fundraising attraction. 600 people contributed to deposit $100,000 into the Nebraskan GOP piggy bank. In these budget-stretching, uncertain economic times, the digging-deep-in-pockets truth is that Republicans are more committed than ever to support the conservative cause. It’s also moneyed approval of Romney’s clout. Also attending were Gov. Dave Heineman, U.S. Sen. Mike Johanns and U.S. Reps. Adrian Smith and Lee Terry.

Mitt’s comments last night on Obama’s health care scheme:

President Obama’s troubles with health care reform rest with his fellow Democrats, and not Republicans, former GOP presidential contender Mitt Romney said Friday in Omaha.

Democrats wary of a public takeover of health care — including Nebraska Democratic U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson — are Obama’s main obstacle, Romney said prior to his appearance at a state GOP fundraising dinner.

“The president doesn’t need one Republican vote to pass a health-care plan,” said Romney, saying there are enough Democrats in Congress to pass a bill.

“If a bill is being delayed or he’s having trouble getting it through, it’s because some Democrats are listening to what people are saying,” Romney said.

On health care reforms Romney implemented in Massachusetts:

As governor of Massachusetts, Romney helped implement health care reform in that state. In fact, Massachusetts is the only state in the union with a government mandate requiring residents to have insurance or face a penalty.

Romney stood behind the Massachusetts approach, saying he continues to support the idea.

Some Republicans object to a mandate, saying the federal government should not be in the business of requiring citizens to buy health insurance.

Romney argued that people who fail to purchase health care insurance make everyone else pay when they get sick. Hospitals cover the costs of treating the uninsured by spreading the expense among people with insurance.

Romney also said he believes the federal government should allow each state to develop its own health care reform bill with dollars currently being spent on Medicaid and Medicare.

Finally, Romney said, he opposes a “public option.” He said a government-run health insurance plan would be a takeover of the health care system.

Instead, he favors the Massachusetts plan, where the state created a pool of insurance companies, which then offered subsidized health insurance to people who could not afford insurance.

A Stick Out Your Tongue and Gag 'Ahhh' Moment

October 5th, 2009 Jayde Wyatt Comments off

say ahh
Gathering at the White House Rose Garden today, 150 white-coated doctors smiled as President Obama applied tepid CPR to his health care plan.

“We have listened to every charge and every counter-charge — from the crazy claims about death panels to misleading warnings about a government takeover of our health care system,” he said.

The Senate Finance Committee wrapped up debate on the overhaul of the $2.5 trillion U.S. healthcare system on Friday and could vote on its plan as soon as Tuesday.

The plan, first put forward by committee chairman Max Baucus, had a price tag of $900 billion.

Passage by the committee will be a major victory, but the overhaul still has a long road ahead. The finance committee’s bill must be merged with another committee’s even before going to the full Senate in mid-October.

Obama’s Democrats are divided on major issues, especially whether to include a government-run insurance plan, the so-called “public option,” strongly supported by liberals but opposed by conservatives and heatedly opposed by the insurance industry.

The finance committee plan does not include a public option, and Obama did not mention one at Monday’s event.

The reform plans have yet to win support from any Republicans as they make their way through Congress.

House Minority Leader Representative John Boehner said the overhaul schemes are too expensive and that “thousands of doctors” have objected to it because it would cripple their ability to care for patients.

“Members of the medical community — who deal with red tape day in and day out — rightly recognize that the Democrats’ government takeover would weaken the doctor-patient relationship that is so critical to making the right health care decisions,” he said.

Read more here.

Behind the scenes, Obama is taking public option temperatures and hoping to revive fever-pitch support . He concluded his speech today by praising the doctors in his audience: “I want to thank every single doctor who is here and I especially want to thank you for agreeing to fan out across the country and make the case about why this reform effort is so desperately needed… If you’re willing to speak out strongly on the things you care about…I’m confident we are going to get health reform passed this year.”

It was a real stick out your tongue and gag ‘ahhh’ moment.

Tom Price, speaking at the AAPS (American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists) 66th Annual Meeting, on October 3rd 2009, urges us to call the White House TODAY and outlines a S.I.M.P.L.E. plan for Americans to follow to stop government takeover of health care:

I – Invest time and resources in groups, organizations you support.
M- Multiply your involvement by recruiting other folks every single day.
P – PetitionPelosi.com Sign up!
L – Look for AAPS YouTube videos and send them to everybody you know.
E - Expand your reach by helping others in congressional elections in 2010.

As Mr. Price reminds us, the work of politics is a battle of ideas and that battle never ends. The opposition is creative. Here’s just one recent idea supporting Obama’s plan: Blogger for Obama’s Organizing for America, Nicole Aro, is calling for college students to jump on the wobbly gurney of nationalized health care by joining her Organize a Health Reform Phone Booth program.

This week is critical. We can’t be complacent. We must be more creative. If you have a clever idea that serves to inspire more to join our cause, please share it here. In the meantime, write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper. Share your opinion on blogs. Email, text, instant message, twitter, and Facebook your friends to ask them to call their congressional reps and the White House TODAY (202-456-1414). Stop the hypodermic needle of big government from injecting socialism into health care!

Governor Romney Visits Children's Hospital

October 2nd, 2009 Jayde Wyatt Comments off

Doctor and child

With compassion for the sick and uninsured, a mind for insurance and medical industry reform, and health care without governmental controls, Governor Romney’s stop at a Mesa, AZ children’s hospital yesterday (funded primarily by  second cousin, Wilford Cardon) is not surprising. While praising the facility’s home-like ambiance for ill children, Governor Romney’s penchant for cost efficiency and superior results were evident in his comments.

Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s first visit to Arizona since the 2008 election was more than just a family visit.

Romney, a second cousin to southeast Valley real-estate developer Wilford Cardon, toured the new home of Cardon Children’s Medical Center with the discerning eye of a former hospital-industry executive.

“I worked as a consultant to a number of hospitals back in the 1980s . . . and therefore find it interesting to see how modern hospitals are being constructed and organized, particularly when many are operating with reduced staffing, ” Romney said. “This is a real tribute to the Cardon family that they would decide to use their resources to help build a hospital like this that will not only treat young people but would make them feel comfortable and more at home,” he added.

During the tour, Peter Fine, president and chief executive officer of Banner Health, said he was impressed with Romney’s questions on the use of technology for medical records. “It’s certainly exciting to have him here. He’s been a very visible figure for the community,” Fine said. “He was far more astute on the issues of a costful environment . . . and I thought he had asked some very good follow-up questions. He was really interested in what we did for the design and the development and the reasons why.”

"MA Healthcare Plan a Winner" – But Not Perfect

September 21st, 2009 Nate Gunderson Comments off

The following is cross-posted at Race 4 2012. It is my first front page post at that site, though I’ve long frequented the site. I’d like to thank Kavon for allowing me join the fabulous blogging pool there to aid in representing those who support Romney. For those of you unfamiliar with that site I recommend it highly. The site has bloggers from all corners of the big tent and is a great insight into all of the potential candidates for President in 2012, and is also an excellent source for conservative news. There has been a great discussion there today concerning this post at Race 4 2012, click here to view the comments. ~Nate G.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Just this afternoon there was a noteworthy article written at Newsmax.com by Ronald Kessler. This article is a much needed clarification of the record of the MA healthcare plan that has received so much criticism as of late, most notably from potential 2012 rivals Tim Pawlenty and Mike Huckabee. Most frequent of the complaints leveled against the plan is that it is just a failure – but seldom are any facts or reasons given and without such there is nothing to argue against. So, the second most common statement is that it is bankrupting the state. This simply is not true. Detractors point to total cost of the program for shock effect, but that value is hardly fair to the overall picture. A more accurate report would be the net cost of the program, since the plan does provide savings in other areas in the budget.

Central to the plan was Romney’s recognition that uninsured individuals were costing the state and federal government money because they showed up in emergency rooms for non-emergency care. If they had health insurance, Romney concluded, those government payments to hospitals could be applied to paying to cover the uninsured.

“We said, let’s take the money that the federal government is giving us and that we’re taking from our own state coffers that we use to give to hospitals to give out free care,’ ” Romney says. “Instead, let’s use that money to help low-income people purchase their own private market-based insurance.”

huck-rom

In this society of one-liners and 140 character encapsulations (Twitter), the full story seldom gets told, but the headlines stick. Someone like Huckabee, whose name has proliferated the conservative halls of this country, should have access to such information and be able to avoid falsely claiming that the MA plan is making the state go belly up. Unfortunately he and other have gleefully sounded the alarm and the echo chambers have sounded in return. The FACT is, the HC plan is little over 1% of the MA’s budget, and it is not the reason for their economic woes. Can someone tell me a state that didn’t have to close a budget deficit the year? Massachusetts is in the same boat, and opponents have in their political opportunism seized upon MA’s woes and said “Look at that! Romney must have done it.” The only thing this indicates to me is that Romney has a huge target on his back going into 2012.

But wait there’s more! Some would like give sole credit to Romney to the MA plan. Remember there was a legislature involved. Remember that this legislature is extremely liberal (what is it 87% Dem?), and they have major override powers, which they used in this plan. More from the article:

As initially proposed by Romney, “The plan would not have cost the state an additional dollar,” Romney says. “However, the legislature decided to add some features, which are ones that I did not support.”

For example, Romney says, “In my proposal, I said that every individual should have to pay some portion of their health care insurance premium. In the final bill, people with low incomes don’t pay anything. Also in my proposal, I said that there should not be any mandates directed to insurance companies as to what insurance policies must include, such as unlimited treatments for in vitro fertilization. Such mandated coverage made the product far more expensive.”

Romney observes that those are legitimate decisions by a legislature.

“I didn’t agree with all of them,” he says. “In some cases, I vetoed those provisions, but they were put back in. And yet in the final analysis, the program is very much in line with the forecasts that were made by the legislature at the time of its passing.”

There were 8 sections in the bill that Romney vetoed, 6 were overridden. One of which is the employer mandate to offer insurance if you had a payroll of X amount of dollars. If you want to do your own research regarding the bill, here it is in it’s entirety. (It’s 39,000 words!) Also noted in the text are the sections he vetoed. Hint: Press CTRL-F in your browser and search for the word ‘veto’.

Other thoughts concerning the MA health-care plan: Does it cover abortions for $50? Yes. Is Romney to blame for that? Definitely not. Will you explain why? Yes, in a future post. Is the MA plan good for the whole nation? No, the health care plans and regulations should be handled at the state level – what’s good for MA is not necessarily good for Alabama. What should national heath care reform entail? Nothing more than provisions to help lower the costs of health care, something an individual state won’t be able to do by itself. What provisions would those be? Open up markets to sell across state lines, tort reform, and reform of the entitlement programs.

Again that article by Newsmax can be found clicking here. It is your civic duty to read the whole thing. :)
