Foreign Policy #ObamaIsntWorking

If President Obama did as bad as he did in the debate on domestic policy, what is going to happen when the debates turn to the topic of foreign policy?

America: Obama’s Reality vs Romney’s Reality

With sufficient frustrations born of the media’s failing of America by not disseminating truth and facts, and with bewilderment over the media’s blindness to truth and substance, I have compared below the realities of America under Obama and Romney. To be fair, Mitt Romney hasn’t led America, yet, but his history and record is clearly indicative of what we might see under a Romney Presidency. Further and notwithstanding my bias towards Mitt Romney, I have tried to be dispassionate in this comparative.

Romney’s America seems to be more robust and more hopeful, in fact, more Free.

What the Media Doesn’t Want You to Know: Obama’s Follies

Below is an historical perspective that the media will diminish and distort, or not even disclose or discuss with America as they strive to protect and promote Barack Obama. Why? Whether in ideological alignment with Obama or striving for relevance and power in our society, the media is wont to attack or undermine Mitt Romney and the conservative movement, at any price without boundary, integrity or principle. What Obama and the media fail to realize in their blindness and pandering for relevance and power, is that they only become relevant and important unto themselves. By and through their misguided actions to become relevant, they become irrelevant. Never before in our history has the media, or our President for that matter, been so irresponsible and caught up in their own self-importance; never before have they been so blatant in their wants and posturing to America’s discredit; never before have they revealed who they really are and abandoned all ethical boundaries; never before have they exposed themselves with reckless and irresponsible abandon. The battle lines have been drawn and the media has joined the opposition. Their insidious lack of integrity and public profile is undermining the very fabric of our society, and all in the name of their principal advocate, Barack Obama. The same could be said for the liberal thinkers in our center-right society. The liberal thinkers and the media have aligned with one another and through their protestations convinced themselves that they are a reflection of American society; again, at the behest of their leading advocate, Barack Obama. They are not a reflection of the majority of American’s, yet – and hopefully they never will! Surely, they and Obama represent some in America, but clearly, truth and ideology be told, it is the minority. By and through their public pulpit each are convinced if they shout loud enough we will be equally convinced. What is tragic is the blatant lies and manipulations in play; with stories suppressed, polls manipulated, and lies promulgated – the media and Obama are trying to sell what is good as bad and what is bad as good. This deception has to stop! History has proven when the majority in society remain silent to the protestations of the extremes, lives and freedoms are lost – Not here, and not in America!

Intentional as the media may be to try and diminish and suppress conservative voter turnout by skewed and distorted polls, deceitful attacks on conservative values and Mitt Romney, or collusion to suppress information and deviate from substance – they will not succeed. I believe the efforts of deception will diminish Democratic turnout and elevate the Conservative turnout!

Noted in the recent post by Vic Lundquist, voices are being raised in opposition and standing on principles, gratefully!

The historical aggregation of some of Obama’s follies without sufficient media disclosure and publication is distressing for many reasons, not the least of which are the lives and freedoms lost.

1) Barack Obama’s failure to act on advance intel to protect our Libyan Ambassador and his colleagues; and his subsequent cover up of known intelligence reports conjunctive with his recent dismissiveness and failure to address and acknowledge terrorism on US territory in Libya and 20 embassies around the world.

2) Lives were lost because of Obama’s failed leadership and inattentions in the Middle East. Today our military is under severe threat because of the undermining attitudes and policies of Barack Obama. Each day we are losing men and women because of political posturing by Obama in Afghanistan – our enemy has infiltrated our ‘allies’ and are killing our soldiers, and nothing is said or done to stop it.

3) Barack Obama’s compromising leaks of national security matters to bolster his foreign policy bona fides, and put our nation at further risk.

4) Barack Obama’s foreign policy priorities to appease and accommodate our enemies; his foreign policy priorities to advocate the LGBT agenda as a condition of American aid, ‘cultural imperialism.’

5) Obama’s abandonment of world leadership; abandonment of Israel; accommodation to a soon-to-be nuclear Iran; accommodation to an Arab Winter and radical Islamic leadership that has put in play a conflagration in the Middle East.

6) Barack Obama’s willful taxes on the poor and middle class when he stated the contrary. (a) Obama stated he wouldn’t raise a dollar of tax on the middle class; and yet, he clearly stated he would wage a war on energy and bankrupt certain industries, including the coal industry. Consequentially, we have seen gasoline prices and home fuel costs more than double in 3 years. American’s are paying at least $1,200-$4,000 more per year in fuel costs because of Obama’s stated policies which is an egregious tax on all. (b) Obama’s debt agenda has imposed a principal borrowing of nearly $6 trillion, plus interest, on all Americans! His spending is one of the most significant taxes he can impose on this and future generations. What isn’t discussed is the cost of interest on this debt when interest rates go up, and they will go up. (c) Obamacare will further impose a minimum tax on all American’s of at least $4,000 per year and in the years to come, and so much more. Additionally, under Obamacare our seniors have to pay an added Obamacare tax on the sale of their homes.

Clinton Global Initiative: Romney Tackles Futile Foreign Aid, Stop Handouts, Give a Hand UP

GOP presidential candidate, former MA Governor Mitt Romney appears on stage with former Pres Bill Clinton at Clinton’s Global Initiative Convention in New York City. Sept 25, 2012 (Photo – Evan Vucci/AP )

Today, Governor Mitt Romney and former President Bill Clinton walked across a stage, side-by-side, to stand together at a lectern before a large crowd. The meeting of the 8th annual Clinton Global Initiative in New York City had begun; Romney was about to speak. Yes, the guy who saved Obama’s bacon at the Democratic National Convention offered kind introductory words for Obama’s opponent, Mitt Romney (see link in next paragraph).

Before getting to the meat of his remarks, Governor Romney began with some humor. After Clinton’s intro, Romney quipped “If there’s one thing we’ve learned this election season, it’s that a few words from Bill Clinton can do a man a lot of good… After that introduction, I guess all I have to do is wait a day or two for the bounce.” (To see Bill Clinton’s introduction and Romney’s good-humored joke click here.)

Drawing from his years of experience in the private sector, Romney offered a fresh, new look at the issue of futile foreign aid. He tied the efficacy of foreign aide to the power of free enterprise: “…[E]conomic freedom is the only force in history that has consistently lifted people out of poverty – and kept people out of poverty.”

In his speech, Romney noted the difference freedom makes in creating prosperous societies:

When I was in business, I traveled to many other countries. I was often struck by the vast difference in wealth among nations. True, some of that was due to geography. Rich countries often had natural resources like mineral deposits or ample waterways. But in some cases, all that separated a rich country from a poor one was a faint line on a map. Countries that were physically right next to each other were economically worlds apart. Just think of North and South Korea.

I became convinced that the crucial difference between these countries wasn’t geography. I noticed the most successful countries shared something in common. They were the freest. They protected the rights of the individual. They enforced the rule of law. And they encouraged free enterprise. They understood that economic freedom is the only force in history that has consistently lifted people out of poverty – and kept people out of poverty.

Romney’s excellent speech:

Romney’s foreign aid plan wouldn’t be just handing out aid packages; he believes in providing a hand UP, not a hand out to needy nations, which would improve people’s lives around the world and be a step toward making the world a safer place for Americans. He continued to extol the virtues of assistance programs that unleash free enterprise, resulting in more durable prosperity:

A temporary aid package can jolt an economy. It can fund some projects. It can pay some bills. It can employ some people some of the time. But it can’t sustain an economy—not for long. It can’t pull the whole cart—because at some point, the money runs out.

But an assistance program that helps unleash free enterprise creates enduring prosperity. Free enterprise is based on mutual exchange—or, rather, millions of exchanges—millions of people trading, buying, selling, building, investing. Yes, it has its ups and downs. It isn’t perfect. But it’s more durable. It’s more reliable. And ultimately, as history shows, it’s more successful.

Romney introduced the idea of ‘Prosperity Pacts’, encouraging microfinance, and more:

Romney said he would negotiate trade agreements and offer “prosperity pacts” in the Middle East and other developing nations to encourage open markets in exchange for U.S. aid. “The aim of a much larger share of our aid must be the promotion of work and the fostering of free enterprise,” Romney said.

In a reflection of his policy on welfare in the United States, Romney said work is the key to lifting people out of poverty abroad by providing self-esteem and a grounding in reality instead of fanaticism.

Main Stream Media & Middle East: Irrationally Vilify Romney to Protect Obama

Protesters rip an American flag pulled down from the U.S. embassy in Cairo as they hoist a black flag similar to an Al Qaeda banner on Sept. 11, 2012. (PHOTO – Mohammed Abu Zaid/AP)

Four Americans, including our Libyan ambassador, have been murdered by radical Islamists. Additional embassy employees have been injured. (No Marines to protect our embassy on the 11th anniversary of 9/11… Huh?) Chaos and violence continues to spread throughout the middle east; angry crowds in Tunisia, Yemen, Iraq, Oman, along with demonstrators in Egypt, continue to fill the streets. The Muslim Mafiahood Brotherhood is calling for DEATH TO AMERICA and a massive protest after prayers on Friday. Our sovereign property, American embassies, have been breached, our fences covered in graffiti, items stolen, vehicles torched, emblems torn down, and our flags are burning. Along with our Egyptian embassy, U.S. embassies in at least nine other countries are warning of further attacks and urge Americans to curtail activities in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Armenia, Burundi, Bangladesh, Kuwait, Sudan, Tunisia and Zambia.

In the midst of this mayhem, pandemonium, and visceral display of hatred for America, guess what bothers the mainstream media the most?

Mitt Romney.

He responded to the chaos.

Headlines, commentary, tweets, etc shout “How dare he?!”

Yes, it’s driving them nuts – more than the attacks themselves.

Thanks to new media, we’ve learned a nasty little secret about the traveling press corp following Romney. They coordinated ‘GOTCHA’ questions to demonize Mitt Romney for having the audacity to issue a statement on Obama’s unguarded reaction to these events. Listen to the voices of CBS reporter Jan Crawford and Ari Shapiro from NPR:

CBS REPORTER: Yeah that’s the question. I would just say do you regret your question.

UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: Your question? Your statement?

CBS REPORTER: I mean your statement. Not even the tone, because then he can go off on…

UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: And then if he does, if we can just follow up and say ‘but this morning your answer is continuing to sound…’ – *becomes unintelligble*

CBS REPORTER: You can’t say that..

The transcript also noted this exchange, with a man Graham said is not Shapiro:

CBS REPORTER: I’m just trying to make sure that we’re just talking about, no matter who he calls on we’re covered on the one question.

UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: Do you stand by your statement or regret your statement?

There is more information here.

Here’s just one example of the relentless mainstream media assault on Romney (from Obama-loving CNN): Richard Williamson, Romney’s Senior Foreign Policy Adviser was interviewed by Chris Lemon yesterday (Hat tip to Matt Hadro on Newsbusters; see transcript and more here.):

Headline from the Wall Street Journal yesterday: Romney Offends the Pundits

Tuesday’s assaults on the U.S. Embassies in Benghazi and Cairo have injected foreign policy into the Presidential campaign, but suddenly the parsons of the press corps are offended by the debate. They’re upset that Mitt Romney had the gall to criticize the State Department for a statement that the White House itself disavowed.

We’re referring to the statement issued Tuesday under the headline “U.S. Embassy Condemns Religious Incitement.”

Mr. Romney reacted late Tuesday with his own statement: “I’m outraged by the attacks on American diplomatic missions in Libya and Egypt and by the death of an American consulate worker in Benghazi. It’s disgraceful that the Obama Administration’s first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks.”

The Obama Presidential campaign jumped on the remarks Wednesday as inappropriate, yet a “senior Administration official” had told the website Politico later on Tuesday night that “The statement by Embassy Cairo was not cleared by Washington and does not reflect the views of the United States government.” So the White House can walk away from its own diplomats, but Mr. Romney can’t criticize them?

As Tuesday’s events showed, pandering to Islamists who would use the video to inflame anti-American sentiment isn’t going to stop the protests.

His political faux pax was to offend a pundit class that wants to cede the foreign policy debate to Mr. Obama without thinking seriously about the trouble for America that is building in the world.

It’s appalling how the mainstream media is tripping over themselves to condemn Romney – especially BEFORE uttering a word of condemnation for the terrorists. We continue to see a shameful lock-step march to shield our call-the-shots-from-behind President. The way they’ve portrayed Romney’s words as far more important than the actual events is insane!

Yesterday, while speaking to CBS News’ 60 Minutes correspondent Steve Kroft, (an institution where Obama walks on water), Obama attempted to minimize Romney for his reaction to the Cairo embassy attack: “Governor Romney seems to have a tendency to shoot first and aim later.” Tripe! Then, with sickening photos of our battered, fallen ambassador racing across the internet and middle east foreign policy unraveling, Obama skipped out on the daily security briefing (he’s missed half of them since being elected) and sashayed off to a fundraiser in Las Vegas.

Crass – just crass.

Here’s a VIDEO timeline of events:

Mitt Romney’s Plan – Protect the Middle Class with Competence, Measure and Integrity

Mitt Romney will not raise taxes on the middle class, nor will he lower the tax contributions of the most wealthy!

Today, David Gregory interviewed Mitt and Ann Romney on Meet the Press (see the full interview below). This is the first time in the history of Meet the Press that the wife of a a Presidential Candidate was also interviewed. And in spite of Gregory’s continued public pursuit of an agenda seemingly shaped by the disbelieving and jaundiced left, both Mitt and Ann Romney revealed their true character, charm, capacity and competence!

It is apparent that the media seems to struggle with the Romney’s constancy amid the situational standards of our society – the anomalous Romney’s live and serve by constants and principles of integrity and truth with a sincere and tangible sense of duty. They do not succumb to the typical political pandering and posturing we see in many of today’s politicians. It is human nature to project on others what we see in ourselves, hence the media’s challenge with Mitt and Ann Romney. What the media tries to project on Mitt and Ann is wholly inconsistent with who Mitt and Ann are. We get a sense that the media is so blinded by the beams in their own eyes that they struggle to see the sincere strength and resolute nature of Mitt and Ann Romney, and their foundations for dutiful service; they are truly committed to a cause greater than self. Mitt stated such in his interview – it is about serving the nation, fixing our economy and restoring foundational principles of freedom and liberty! No more, no less.

,

Ann expressed how life’s experiences are tutorial in shaping our capacity to empathize with those in need, and to the surprise of the interviewer it had nothing to do with our station in life. As a cancer survivor I get it! Ann Romney, and Mitt by virtue of shared experiences with Ann, clearly understand the suffering of others and how to succor and serve those in need. Further, after the Republican Convention in Tampa and the tender expressions of so many touched by Mitt and Ann Romney, the story of unpurchased service by the Romney’s should no longer be challenged, but elevated as an example for all to follow. Bill Bennett said it best today after the Meet the Press interview; paraphrased, conservatives are more charitable and more giving, they are more willing to offer selfless compassionate service than their liberal counterparts. If anyone wants to consider the point, look to the charitable service and contributions of the Romney’s compared to that of the Obama’s and Biden’s combined. The liberals seem to want to be far more generous with the taxpayer’s money (our money) than their own.

Mr. Gregory then began to press Governor Romney on his economic recovery/jobs plan, seeking for greater granularity. I find it fascinating that when Mitt Romney put a 59 point plan together the media was cynical; when he distilled it down to a more simple five point plan, they demanded more specifics. It is clear that the media is lacking in its capacity to understand, or they just have a specific agenda as the PR machine for the sitting President.

The message came through loud and clear from Mitt Romney today, as it was repeated no less than three times – Mitt Romney will not raise taxes on the middle class, nor will he lower the tax contributions of the most wealthy! Among other things, Mitt went on to juxtapose his foreign policy agenda against Obama’s biggest foreign policy failure, a nuclear Iran.

What I find of interest is a want from the media for Mitt Romney to be granular in his plans without a similar press to Obama, who has yet to present a credible budget in 4 years, or a plan to fix our economy, and he is the President of the United States! What I do know is that I can look to Mitt Romney’s track record and history and know that he will govern and execute a plan based upon principles and pragmatism. He has done it innumerable times and will apply the same disciplines as President. His past is prologue which is equally said for Obama. Only in Mitt Romney’s case his past successes are prologue for future successes, and Obama’s past failures are prologue for future failures.

Slaughter in Syria: Romney “Work with partners, arm Syrian opposition groups”

While Americans are busy with Memorial Day activities, shock and horror at the news of massacre in Haoula, Syria is resounding on news reports today.

On mid-day Friday, May 26, 2012, Syrian soldiers and pro-government forces burst upon the rebel-controlled village and began slaughtering residents. Video and photos show rows of dead and mutilated small children among the victims. 116 were killed and 100 were wounded.

The UN Security Council today held an emergency meeting in New York to discuss the attack.

Calling the Syrian regime’s latest slaughter “horrific”, Governor Mitt Romney released the following statement:

“The Assad regime’s massacre of civilians in Haoula—many of them young children—is horrific. After nearly a year and a half of slaughter, it is far past time for the United States to begin to lead and put an end to the Assad regime. President Obama can no longer ignore calls from congressional leaders in both parties to take more assertive steps. The Annan ‘peace’ plan—which President Obama still supports—has merely granted the Assad regime more time to execute its military onslaught. The United States should work with partners to organize and arm Syrian opposition groups so they can defend themselves. The bloodshed in Haoula makes clear that our goal must be a new Syrian government, one that contributes to peace and stability in the Middle East and that truly represents the brave Syrian people.”

~ Addendum from Ross:

Looks like Mitt was right about Iran when he stood up for freedom while President Obama stood silent, and Gov. Romney has again voiced his support for freedom while our President allows tyranny to go unchecked now in Syria.

Obama Voters Who May Vote for Governor Romney: Democrats and Independents

Recently, I extended the invitation to a fellow Californian who will again vote for President Obama. Her name is Pauline Kejmar and she lives in Redlands — she is a Democrat. Her grandson Drew is my son-in-law.

There are still ardent supporters of President Obama and Pauline is one. Through Drew, I asked her if she would give me a TOP 10 list of reasons she believes President Obama is superior to Governor Romney as POTUS and why she plans to support Obama again.

You may ask why I would post subject matter of this type in a grassroots forum such as MittRomneyCentral. My reasoning is that it provides a simple glimpse into the mind of one Democrat and if we are successful here at MRC, we should be able to appeal to the Blue Dog Democrat as well as to the Independent voter (Americans all). To do so, we need to understand their motivations and expectations. I presume that Pauline is far from being a disaffected Democrat as her views below seem to align well with the more liberal wing of the Democrat party.

Governor Huntsman’s likely endorsement of Governor Romney today is the first of four hopefully, which will shift the focus of the campaign away from the Republican competitors to President Obama. WELCOME to any and all supporters of Governor Huntsman and to any of the supporters of Gingrich, Santorum, and Perry who are hoping to join a winning, organized, strong movement to restore America’s standing! Welcome to you!

It is too early to predict of course, but Romney could be on course to beat Reagan’s 1980 win over Carter — impressive indeed. In that race, Reagan won 44 states and 489 electoral votes to Carter’s six states (plus DC) and 49 electoral votes, and America is in far worse shape today. I remember those days. Reagan entered office with a mandate, in part because of Democrats that crossed over to vote for him. By the way, are any of you as sick and tired as I am of hearing Mr. Gingrich invoke the name of Ronald Reagan at every turn? I wish I could ask President Reagan his candid opinion of Gingrich!

President Obama

REQUEST: For any of our readers that voted for Obama who became disillusioned with the direction his lack of leadership has taken America, and who is seriously considering a vote for Governor Romney this time (should he be the Republican nominee), please leave a comment as to why. I may contact you later to invite you to elaborate in a guest post — if you would like.

Following is one Democrat’s opinion as to why President Obama is the superior candidate for POTUS.

By Pauline Kejmar

Ten Reasons why I would vote for Obama over Romney

I. He is better able to bridge the increasing gap between the rich and the poor in this country.

2. He has been very successful in fighting terrorism with the killing of Bin Laden and many other top Al Qaeda leaders and operatives.

3. He fights for consumer financial protection such as regulating credit card fees.

4. He would be less likely to lead us into a armed conflict with Iran using sanctions and cooperation with other allies.

5. He was able to help get Gaddafi out of Libya without using U.S. ground troops.

6. He would be tougher on environmental protection because he believes in global warming.

7. Has a sensible approach to immigration. Illegal immigration numbers have decreased under Obama and deportation of illegal criminals has increased. He has a concern for those young people brought here at an early age to receive a path to legalization.

8. He has brought an end to the nine years of war in Iraq and sent our troops home. He is drawing down in Afghanistan after ten years.

2ND REQUEST: Please leave a comment to this post if you voted for Barack Obama in 2008 but are seriously considering a completely opposite approach by voting for Governor Romney, should he win the nomination. Also, let me know if you would be interested in expounding upon your views and opinions in a guest post to help other readers that have similar concerns. If so, I will contact you via email.

UPDATE – The full debate:

Ahead of His Fiscal Policy Speech, Romney’s Op-ed: “How I’ll Tackle Spending, Debt”

While President Obama is in Cannes, France at the G-20 Summit, the hovering Greek cloud is unmistakable. Obama says U.S. influence hasn’t diminished but the evidence suggests otherwise. Obama is no longer center-stage; he’s been sharing the limelight with French President Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. World leaders know America is broke.

Meanwhile, Mitt Romney knows the Greek cloud is headed our way, but not if he can help it. Ahead of his major fiscal policy speech today in New Hampshire, he’s written an op-ed on how he’ll tackle America’s spending and debt:

USATODAY OPINION

Romney: How I’ll tackle spending, debt
By Mitt Romney
November 3, 2011

I spent much of my 25-year career in the private sector turning around failing enterprises. With a great team behind me, I helped to turn around the Salt Lake City Olympic Games, and fix a badly broken state budget in Massachusetts. But I have never seen an enterprise as large, as poorly led, and as badly in need of a turnaround as our federal government.

President Obama inherited a severely imbalanced budget, and he made it much worse. Many now question whether we can ever return to fiscal sanity, let alone fiscal strength. A point of no return may well be approaching — a decade of huge deficits could drive our principal payments and interest rates beyond our reach while starving the economy of the capital it needs to grow.

We can still correct course because our economy retains tremendous capacity for growth. As president, I will bring to Washington the turnaround philosophy it so badly needs.

Any turnaround must begin with clear and realistic goals. By the end of my first term, I will bring federal spending as a share of GDP down from last year’s staggering 24.3% to 20% or below. This level is in line with the historical average and nears the tax revenue our economy generates when healthy. With economic growth of 4% a year, meeting this goal will require approximately $500 billion of spending cuts in 2016, and that would still allow us to undo the Obama administration’s irresponsible defense cuts.

There are three ways to reduce spending, which combined, will achieve a fiscal turnaround of this size.

First, eliminate every government program that is not absolutely essential. There are many things government does that we may like but that we do not need. The test should be this: “Is this program so critical that it is worth borrowing money to pay for it?” The federal government should stop doing things we don’t need or can’t afford. For example:

•Repeal ObamaCare, which would save $95 billion in 2016.

•Eliminate subsidies for the unprofitable Amtrak, saving $1.6 billion a year.

•Enact deep reductions in the subsidies for the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the Legal Services Corporation.

•Eliminate Title X family planning programs benefiting abortion groups like Planned Parenthood.

•End foreign aid to countries that oppose America’s interests.

Second, return federal programs to the states where innovation, cost management and reduction of fraud and abuse can far exceed what Washington achieves. I will block grant Medicaid and workforce training, saving well over $100 billion in 2016.

Third, sharply improve the productivity and efficiency of the federal government itself. Where we do want the federal government to act, it must do a better job. For instance:

•Reduce the federal workforce through attrition and align compensation with the private sector, saving over $40 billion by 2016.

•Repeal the Davis-Bacon Act, a union giveaway that artificially raises costs for government projects, and save taxpayers more than $10 billion a year in the process.

•Attack rampant fraud in government programs by enacting far stiffer penalties for those who steal from taxpayers. Cutting improper payments in half could save more than $60 billion a year.

•Consolidate, eliminate and streamline federal departments, agencies and offices following a stem-to-stern review.

(emphasis added ) Continue reading here.

~NOTE from Rebel Ross

I bet Mike Pence is going to especially like the part of Mitt’s plan that says “Eliminate Title X family planning programs benefiting abortion groups like Planned Parenthood.” because he’s been leading that charge for quite awhile now. We’ve been fighting alongside with him for a long time, and it sure would be nice to pick up his endorsement.
