Romney’s Leadership & Integrity will Trump Obama’s Four Inherent Advantages

The mission of this website (MRC) is very simple: We are a grassroots blog dedicated to the election of the finest leader to ever run for President of the United States: Mitt Romney. As a blog, we provide information of course to keep you informed, but our mission is to influence readers to take action; to join us in making a difference. If our presence on the Internet does not translate to energetic action in support of Mitt Romney, we have failed. If you have followed MRC for more than a few weeks, you have seen me start some of my posts with “We are going to win!” I have been steadfast in that declaration and I stand by it now.

That said, as in any competitive endeavor, we can lose. This contest is a simple one. The winner will be the candidate that receives the majority of electoral votes, which depends entirely on which candidate gets the largest number of people to cast ballots. Simple. If you are like me, you have gotten a bit nervous these past 10 days or so (or six months) watching with dismay as the mainstream media (MSM) spins everything to favor Mr. Obama. But you know what? It is what it is. The MSM will not change in the next 43 days, so we must overcome this enormous disadvantage with – as my father would say – sheer hard work; we must outwork the opposition.

As I see it, Mr. Obama has four significant advantages that Governor Romney does not and will have between now and November 6th. All of them are inherent with Barack Obama as a person, his party, and his office. In no particular order they are:

  1. Incumbency: As POTUS, Obama has Prestige of Office and Inherent Credibility
  2. A Corrupt and Biased Mainstream Media
  3. Rhetorical Deception
  4. Union Power and Corruption

Incumbency: As POTUS, Obama has Prestige of Office and Inherent Credibility

The advantages of running for re-election as a sitting president are roughly akin to the Yankees (largest payroll in the MLB at $200M) playing the Padres ($55M) in the World Series. Many advantages are obvious such as the unlimited use of Air Force One used to travel to fundraisers and the ability to invite anyone to the White House, etc. The others are less obvious but definitely crucial in a re-election bid, such as prestige of the office and the credibility of actually being the current POTUS. Think about it. The prestige and credibility of the office of POTUS were established by the reputations of predecessors such as Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Lincoln, and other incredible patriots of the last century and modern era. For reasons I lay out below, I strongly believe Barack Obama has not nearly lived up to the high standards Americans expect of their president. But that does not change the fact that Mr. Obama is the beneficiary of the incredible prestige and reputation of the mantle of president as established by his predecessors. How does that matter? Americans almost always, as a matter of course, give the president the benefit of the doubt. This is not insignificant in his re-election bid as he uses deception to his advantage.

A Corrupt and Biased Mainstream Media (MSM)

Volumes have been published on this one topic. Just today, our Paul Johnson posted an outstanding piece on this topic (if you have not read it entirely, I highly recommend you do). The MSM is not just biased, which is bad enough. Decisions are made all the time at the highest levels of news organizations relative to amount of content, type of content, and how the content is presented. A recent, obvious example of corruption in my opinion was MSNBC’s decision during the RNC coverage to cut away each time a minority speaker began their speech, choosing to “open up discussion” to their pundits. A more recent example is the extremely thin coverage last week of the largest destruction of United States aviation since 1968 in Vietnam. Did you hear about this terrible event? Neither had my wife and she follows the news from a number of MSM sources. Why did the MSM bury it? Because it does not fit the narrative that Obama is succeeding as commander in chief in the war in Afghanistan after making the terrible decision to give the Taliban a date certain we will leave. Examples are pervasive and numerous. I could go on and on but Paul Johnson covered it best in his piece.

Rhetorical Deception

What I meant here is Mr. Obama is an excellent liar. I’m not referring to a “poker face” as they say. He routinely lies with a smile on his face. How is this an advantage you ask? When combining intentional deception with a) the high reputation of the office of president, and b) the bias and corruption of the MSM, Mr. Obama can say almost anything to the American public and do so with impunity. Watch him. He is perfectly affable and genial as he lies in the face of major calamity. I believe Governor Romney will hold him accountable in the debates.

The MSM is in the process of revealing a probable cover-up by the Obama administration in which they knew of threats against the consulate prior to the attack. In short order after the news of the rare death of an American ambassador, Mr. Obama was partying it up with celebrities in Vegas and laughing it up on Letterman. Seriously! The assassination of a U.S. ambassador is an act of war. The last time an ambassador was assassinated was during the Carter administration, over 30 years ago! Remember the emotional indignation of President Reagan when the Berlin night club was destroyed by a terrorist and which prompted him to bomb Gaddafi’s home? There was no emotion by Obama or Clinton in any of their speeches. They read from prepared remarks with little emotion of any kind; then they turned those remarks into a video for Pakistanis to view as another form of American apology. Sure, they were serious. Within hours though, Mr. Obama was smiling and laughing again outside The White House. BTW, watch Mr. Obama. He refuses to use these three words: “assassination,” “terrorism,” and “evil.” There are many reasons for this which we can address at a later time.

Why is Mr. Obama’s lying deceit an advantage over Governor Romney? Because Governor Romney values integrity above all other character attributes of leadership. Barack Obama considers deception a tactic to success much like a military leader uses deception to out maneuver the enemy. In other words, for Mr. Obama, the end (getting re-elected because ‘my policies are most needed by the world’) justifies the means (lying). Lying is not an option available to Governor Romney.

Union Power and Corruption

Much has been documented over the decades of union power and corruption. It is not my objective here to prove it out all over again. Suffice to state that union bosses wield tremendous power over their members. They care little about local, state, or federal laws or ethics regulating pressure over their members’ voting freedom. If they can skate by the rules, they will. Do you think for a moment union members are not being bombarded by regular mailers, paycheck stuffers, and flyers handed them from their managers on how to get out the vote and how to vote? Union membership has diminished over the years but union influence among its members is as powerful as it ever was. Why is this advantage so important? The reason is that many of those who voted for Mr. Obama in 2008 may be disenchanted with him and may decide not to vote in November. But not the union members. They will vote in high numbers for Obama and many will vote en masse for him as they are bussed by the likes of Harry Reid and others like him. I will not line out the forms of corruption they are known for. Will Romney volunteers be more or less determined than union bosses and their members?

As volunteers and supporters of Mitt Romney for president, we must do everything we can now and in the next 40+ days to get involved. To make phone calls into the battleground states. Travel to the battleground states when organized and invited by the campaign. Ask your friends and family members to register to vote and ask them to ask their contacts to do the same. And then get them to vote. There is so much to do. There is so much we each can do! We will overcome the inherent advantages Mr. Obama possesses. Truth, honor, and integrity will prevail.

“Brutal Attacks” by Obama will Continue (Karl Rove)

The Wall Street Journal’s print edition today published its weekly op-ed by Karl Rove titled, “Rove: This Too Shall Pass, but What Follows Is Crucial

Karl Rove (Photo: Twitter @karlrove)

You know the old adage? The one that goes something like, “Opinions are like belly buttons . . . everyone has one.” Political junkies, like those of us that contribute to MRC, read a lot of political “chaff” in our efforts to find content we hope will enlighten and inspire. What I have found is that pundits and writers, by their very nature, are compelled to give their opinion one way or the other. And everyone wants to be a critic, even those that want Governor Romney to be president. Most of their content is frankly chaff, even when sailing is smooth.

I have found Karl Rove’s intellect, political insight, and experience to be a steady light in the tumultuous world of politics. For me, his humor also delivers his message with a certain immutable confidence and credibility. Excerpts from this week’s editorial:

It’s over. Gov. Mitt Romney’s statements last week about the storming of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, followed by the release this week of a video of Mr. Romney at a May fundraiser, have brought the 2012 election to an early end.

At least that is what you’d take away from some pundits. But this is a classic example of the commentariat investing moments with more meaning than they deserve.

Mr. Romney’s comments about Americans who don’t pay taxes were, as he admitted during a Monday press conference, “inelegant.” But every campaign has its awkward moments that the media magnify. Mr. Obama had his after saying on July 13, “You didn’t build that.” For a while thereafter, Team Obama could do little right. Then it passed.

This moment, too, will pass for Mr. Romney. More important, the past week’s events have not significantly altered the contours of the race. A month ago, Gallup had Mr. Obama at 45% and Mr. Romney at 47%. On Wednesday, Gallup reported 47% for Obama, 46% for Romney. A month ago Rasmussen said it was 45% for Mr. Obama, 43% for Mr. Romney. In its Wednesday poll, Rasmussen reported 46% for Obama, 47% for Romney.

Presidential races can look one way now but much differently on Election Day. In mid-September 1980, President Jimmy Carter led Ronald Reagan 44% to 40% in the Gallup poll. By late October, Reagan had slumped to 39% in Gallup, while Mr. Carter had risen to 47%. Reagan won by nine points.

As for the here-and-now, one key number to watch is Mr. Obama’s vote share. In the past month, there have been 83 national polls and daily tracking surveys. Mr. Obama reached 50% in just nine and his average was 47%. That is bad news for an incumbent when attitudes about the No. 1 issue—the economy—are decidedly sour.

This isn’t to suggest the Romney campaign doesn’t have big challenges. But both camps do.

In the two weeks before the presidential debates begin, Mr. Romney must define more clearly what he would do as president. In spelling out his five-point plan for the middle class, he’ll have to deepen awareness of how each element would help families in concrete, practical ways, and offer optimism for renewed prosperity.

Mr. Romney and his team (and supporters) must also steel themselves for more brutal attacks. The Florida fundraising video will not likely be the last surprise. The Romney campaign has largely refused to respond to attacks as a waste of time and resources. But in politics, sometimes the counter punch is stronger than the punch.

There’s little tolerance among Republican donors, activists and talking heads for more statements by Mr. Romney that the media can depict as gaffes. But concerns about avoiding missteps must not cause Mr. Romney to favor cautious and bland. To win, he’ll need to be bold and forceful as he offers a compelling agenda of conservative reform.

Mr. Obama’s challenges may be more daunting. His strategy hasn’t worked. Team Obama planned to use its big financial edge to bury Mr. Romney under negative ads over the summer. From April 15 to Labor Day, they spent an estimated $215 million on TV. But this was more than offset by conservative groups (principally American Crossroads, which I helped found). While Mr. Obama drained his coffers his own negatives climbed, and Mr. Romney partially repaired his image with voters.

Mr. Obama needs a different strategy, but his team seems stubbornly focused merely on disqualifying Mitt Romney by whatever argument or means necessary. Yet as Rahm Emanuel has repeated for most of the year, Mr. Obama must, as he put it on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sept. 2, “lay out an agenda and a clear vision of the next four years” or he’ll lose.
[...]
The campaign’s next likely inflection point will be the debates, which start Oct. 3. Both candidates will be under intense pressure.
[...]

Romney Gains Energy & Strength in Face of Media Firestorm

Governor Romney, Costa Mesa, CA

Please leave a comment if you attended this event or if you have an opinion about the media frenzy over Governor Romney’s comments yesterday.

The speech Governor Romney gave last night in Costa Mesa was as inspiring, energetic, and passionate as I have ever seen him give. “So?” You might ask. The speech I was privileged to attend was given right after his press conference to address the insatiable appetites of the mainstream media relative to the earlier video about the 47%. (I apologize for the terrible quality of the photo at right taken with an Android phone at a distance of about 50 yards) Prior to the reception last night, I had not seen the original video nor had I yet seen his remarks from the press conference, but some might have thought he would have been subdued from the never ending fault-finding of a media hell-bent on shielding their annointed leader, Mr. Obama, from the realities of his failed domestic and foreign policies. To the contrary!

As with most California events attended by Governor Romney, this was a fund raiser. He seemed most relaxed, as he spoke without a teleprompter. In the middle of the speech he paused a moment and said, the following, in effect,

“I want to thank each one of you for being here tonight. Your generosity and contributions are greatly appreciated. I am most grateful to every one of you. I realize you have not made your donations for the Republican Party or for conservatism or for me but for our nation — for America. Thank you so much!”

Terry Fator & Maynard the Elvis Impersonator

As he continued his speech, he gave specific, detailed plans that included 1) Energy Independence, 2) The Skills to Succeed, 3) Trade that Works for America, 4) Cut the Deficit, and 5) Champion Small Business. Anybody that states that Governor Romney does not have specific plans to bring America and Americans back into prosperity quickly are either ignoring the facts or are intentionally misleading the nation to shield President Obama from truthletting. Both are happening every day.

David Foster performing one of the many songs he wrote or produced

The evening included brief comments from Spencer Zwick and Craig Romney with his son Miles. David Foster and Terry Fator provided wonderful entertainment along with their assistants.

Given the events of the day and the intense media focus on Governor Romney’s 47% comment, I am going to end this piece with Mr. Obama’s comments from April 2008 when he made patronizing statements of the people from Pennsylvania and the Midwest. Remember this? After a brief brush with the press, Mr. Obama effectively got a pass from the mainstream media:

“And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations,” Obama said, explaining — he thought — some voters’ politics during the long Pennsylvania primary.

“Pennsylvanians don’t need a president who looks down on them,” Hillary Clinton responded then.

Do you think for a moment the media will give Governor Romney a similar pass? Not on your life! They will hammer Governor Romney as long and as hard as they can to keep the focus off the fact that Mr. Obama’s failed leadership allowed advance warnings to go unheeded ahead of September 11th which left an ambassador and his team exposed to assassination — the first time an American ambassador has been assassinated in over 30 years!

As leaders go, Barack Obama has failed at just about everything he has attempted. Unemployment is stuck at a stagnant 8% (or 15% if including those that gave up); the lowest job participation levels in many decades; lower median income; much higher poverty levels; exploding, unchecked deficits, etc. Space does not allow the entire list of his failed leadership and policies.

Governor Romney has succeeded in every challenge and project he has taken on. As leaders go, Barack Obama does not even compare; he cannot even learn on the job! We cannot allow him, his lemmings, and the lapdog media to dictate the direction or outcome of this all-important presidential election. We need President Mitt Romney and we need him now!

Kudos to Stacy Davis and Steve Samuelian for an extraordinarily successful event last night!

FLORIDA: Gov. Romney Needs Your Help Now / Time is Short

Governor Romney in Florida Thursday September 20th

This is your last chance! September 20th! Governor Romney will attend one last reception in Florida before the presidential election. We are entering the home stretch and Governor Romney needs your support now more than ever. Barack Obama will be throwing everything he can get his hands on at Governor Romney in the next 60 days and he will not hold back.

Are you as upset about the Obama demagoguery on Medicare as I am? Are you tired of President Obama saying all the right things about Israel and then watching him turn his back on our closest ally? We need Mitt Romney’s leadership now more than ever. If you would like to get a glimpse into how American relations with Israel will improve under President Romney, click through to any of these three outstanding articles: Netanyahu-as-Friend / Obama’s-Flimsy-Pretense / Romney-in-Jerusalem.

Please join us for an afternoon with Governor Romney at The Ritz-Carlton in Sarasota, Florida Thursday, September 20th. This will be a wonderful afternoon to not only hear Governor Romney speak, but to meet him, and to have your photograph taken with him if you choose.

This is a fund raising event. Obviously, the intent of this reception is to help Governor Romney raise adequate funds to challenge the incumbent, Barack Obama. Mr. Obama’s advantages are enormous when considering his unlimited use of Air Force One and all the resources of The White House.

This is a critical time in our nation’s life. In my lifetime, I have never seen a presidential election of this importance. Mitt Romney is by far the most qualified, experienced, and prepared American to ever run for President of the United States. We need his leadership and character attributes now more than at any time in the history of this nation. Please do whatever you can right away to enlist as many others to contribute now in support of Mitt Romney at this important crossroads. I am most grateful for any efforts you can make in this regard.

If you have any doubt about what we are up against with a man that will do anything to retain power, read Jeff Fuller’s extraordinary piece in which he exposes how the Democrats at the DNC protested when the party placed “God” and “Jerusalem as capital of Israel” back into their platform. If this video does not motivate you to help Governor Romney at this critical juncture, nothing will.

If you live in another state and therefore cannot attend, do you have relatives or friends from Florida that need to be there? Is there a chance you will be traveling to Florida in the next week on business and can attend? Governor Romney needs your help now. Please tell all your friends about this fun afternoon with Governor Romney.

To secure tickets now, please contact Dr. Peter Wish by sending him a short email requesting information of the event and he will send the details to you right away. Dr. Wish’s email address is: drpeterawish@gmail.com . . . Since this is likely Governor Romney’s last Florida event before becoming President of the United States, we expect a great deal of interest and we hope you can join us there!

Please?

If you cannot attend and are not able to contribute at this time, would you help us get this message out far and wide for Governor Romney? Would you please get all your Facebook friends and Twitter followers to promote this event and retweet it many times over the next week? Your time and effort in social media can and will make a huge difference!

And THANK YOU so much!

Russian Warships used by Democrats as Backdrop at DNC

We’re not making this up! This photograph of Soviet-era combatants used at the DNC is a composite. As such, I find it impossible to believe that the inclusion of not one, not two, not three, but four Russian warships as the central figures of military power was a mistake. Right… Whoever compiled the different images into one photograph had to know the source of the warships photo. This was no mistake! Don’t let them tell you it was.

Retired Admiral John Nathman speaks on stage with military veterans during the final day of the Democratic National Convention on Sept. 6 in Charlotte, N.C. Experts say the ships in the background are Russian.

Sam Fellman of Navy Times wrote:

While retired Adm. John Nathman, a former commander of Fleet Forces Command, honored vets as America’s best, the ships from the Russian Federation Navy were arrayed like sentinels on the big screen above.

These were the very Soviet-era combatants that Nathman and Cold Warriors like him had once squared off against.

“The ships are definitely Russian,” said noted naval author Norman Polmar after reviewing hi-resolution photos from the event. “There’s no question of that in my mind.”

Naval experts concluded the background was a photo composite of Russian ships that were overflown by what appear to be U.S. trainer jets.
[...]
“I was kind of in shock,” said Rob Barker, 38, a former electronics warfare technician who left the Navy in 2006. Having learned to visually identify foreign ships by their radars, Barker recognized the closest ship as the Kara-class cruiser Kerch.
[...]
But the fact they are Russian ships is not in doubt. In addition to the ship’s radar arrays and hulls, which are dissimilar from U.S. warships, the photo features one more give-away: a large white flag with a blue ‘X’ at the ships’ sterns.

Polmar, who authored “The Naval Institute Guide to the Soviet Navy,” recognized the blue ‘X’-mark: “The X is the Cross of St. Andrew’s, which is a Russian Navy symbol,” Polmar said. (An anchored U.S. warship, by contrast, flies the American flag on its stern.)

[emphasis added]

There is no way this is a mistake. The joke is on the American people! The photograph of Russian naval ships is obviously a stock image and as with any stock photograph, rights have to be purchased in order to use the image in any public forum. The person that procured the license to the image would have been completely informed of the source of the image. That is a fact. There is no doubt about that. Let’s watch how Obama’s team dances around this one! They are probably laughing about this.

40+ Million will Vote Weeks before November 6th!

This election could be nearly 50 percent decided well ahead of November 6th! [see graph below] How many days are left to vote? The ticker on the right side bar of this site shows 55 days. Wrong! North Carolina started voting last week. Wisconsin voters start voting in nine days. The all important Ohio and Florida states begin voting in 21 days! How many people voted early in the 2008 race? 40 million! That is a whopping 33% of all voters and the number of early voters increases significantly each election cycle. Check this graph from today’s WSJ:

The Journal article is titled, Vote Changes Spark Duel — Campaigns Battle Over Extended Ballot Season, ID Laws

The largest change in the shape this year’s vote will come from the rapid expansion of early voting—the process that lets voters cast ballots before Election Day. Thirty-five states now offer early voting, and the share of the vote cast early is certain to rise this year. In 2008, some 40 million people, one-third of the electorate, voted early, Mr. Gronke said.

The early-voting season is just starting. North Carolina, site of the Democratic convention, went first, with mail-in ballots becoming available last Friday.
[...]
The Romney campaign also is pushing supporters to vote early. Republican officials estimate that 75% of the votes in North Carolina, 60% in Florida, 57% in Iowa, and 60% in Nevada—all battleground states—will be cast before Election Day. “There’s a plan in place, and we’ve taken a methodical approach to build our support” through early voting, said Rich Beeson, Mr. Romney’s political director.

[emphasis added]

The runway is a lot shorter than many people think! Now is not the time for complacency. We can rest on November 7th. We need to grab an arm on the right and one on the left and go all out for Governor Romney now.

Obama’s Actions Fully Eclipse the Confidence of his Words

This is the most powerful short documentary I have seen to expose Obama’s empty rhetoric. I cannot imagine any thinking person voting for Barack Obama if they watched this video and really thought about what he has said versus what he has done. There is no narration at all. Nothing is taken out of context. It is all in Mr. Obama’s own words with commentary from the mainstream media! If you are set to vote for Barack Obama on November 6th after watching this video, please leave a comment on this post to enlighten all readers why voting for him is the best decision this election cycle.

(Hat Tip to Kevin Anderson for this short documentary)

My favorite parts of this film include White House spokesman Gibbs trying to change the subject numerous times when he cannot find a better way to lie and to watch President Obama lie about the huge taxing and spending his polices have promoted. We need to make sure people do not ever forget what Mr. Obama has said and what he has done to the great nation of America. We will never forget!

We must do everything in our power to elect Mitt Romney as our next President of the United States of America.

David and Nancy French: A Call to Greater Action

Nancy & David French, founders of Evangelicals for Mitt (co-founder: Charles Mitchell) — Standing with the Tennessee delegation at the 2012 Republican National Convention

Of all content I have posted since writing about Mitt Romney from 2007, I consider this piece written by David and Nancy French to be the most important, by far.

David and Nancy are great American patriots by any definition of that word and they are true friends of Mitt and Ann Romney. This opinion of theirs is directed to members of Governor Romney’s church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but could easily apply to any person of faith.

As you read Nancy’s and David’s call to greater action, please take the time to explore the hyperlinks they included. These are powerful resources in and of themselves.

Whatever you do, you have to watch the video of Chuck Norris and his wife — incredible! Please help MRC publicize this message far and wide. (David’s and Nancy’s bios are included at the end)

Update 1: John Schroeder, an MRC friend and writer for Article VI Blog wrote an awesome piece today that dovetails Nancy’s and David’s call to action. Click here: “Now Is No Time To Be Shy”

Update 2: Hugh Hewitt linked to this post and titled it, “What Will Mormons Do?” — Will Mormons go all in for Romney/Ryan?

By David and Nancy French

Dear Mormon Friends, It’s Time to Go “All-In” for Mitt

Nancy and I started Evangelicals for Mitt in 2006 with one simple idea: To enlist the mighty machinery of evangelical activism behind the single best candidate for President of the United States, Mitt Romney. Even then we could see the need for a man of Mitt’s unique talents and now – with labor participation the lowest in 30 years and with the most sluggish recovery since the Great Depression – the need is even greater.

We were more idealistic back in those days. Convinced of Mitt’s merits, we saw our task as relatively easy. Introduce Mitt to evangelicals, deal with the relatively easy questions about theology and politics, and then watch him win social conservatives on his way to the White House. Of course politics is never easy, and there are always competitors for the same set of voters. First Mike Huckabee won enough evangelicals to hand John McCain the nomination in 2008, then Rick Santorum swept southern conservatives and challenged Mitt for the evangelical vote in 2012.

But now, all that is past. Evangelicals are finally united behind Mitt (even 2008 Huckabee supporter – and coolest action star in the universe – Chuck Norris is pleading with evangelicals to vote Barack Obama out of office), and Mitt’s rivaling George Bush’s astounding share of the evangelical vote in 2008. Pro-Obama evangelicals are coming back home to the Republican Party after Obama’s almost four-year assault on religious liberty and his zealous support for abortion. In short, evangelicals – as theologically and culturally divided as we are – will be there for Mitt on election day.

Curiously, however, we’ve heard disturbing reports that LDS Mitt supporters are hanging back just a bit. Some are afraid of stereotyping (“just because I’m Mormon doesn’t mean I’m going to automatically support Mitt. After all, I can’t stand Harry Reid!”), but many more seem just a bit confused about the role of the church in politics. If the LDS church is politically neutral, how can you use your church relationships to mobilize voters and donors?

But let’s back up a moment. Is the LDS church really “neutral?” Is my Presbyterian Church really “neutral?” Yes, I’ve read the portions of the LDS Handbook that emphasize that the church is politically neutral and doesn’t endorse candidates. But the fact that the church is nonpartisan doesn’t mean that it’s neutral on the key moral issues of the day or that the church’s members must maintain their neutrality. In fact, the LDS Handbook specifically urges member involvement:

“Members are encouraged to support measures that strengthen the moral fabric of society, particularly those designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society.”

Let’s be perfectly clear, after the God-booing abortion celebration masquerading as the Democratic National Convention, the moral choices in this election are beyond stark. Let’s just examine the issue of abortion. In Deuteronomy 30:19, God lays out His will for His people:

“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live . . .”

And now here’s the Democratic party platform:

The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to make decisions regarding her pregnancy, including a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay. We oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right.

By contrast, here’s the Republican party platform:

Faithful to the “self-evident” truths enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children.

Is there anything that threatens the “moral fabric of society” or the “family as the fundamental unit of society” as much as granting mothers the “right” to order doctors to kill their innocent children in the womb?

In addition, the Obama administration’s assault on religious liberty through the HHS contraception and abortifacient mandates represents a clear and present danger to the autonomy of the church. The administration is telling Americans of every faith that if they leave the walls of their church and attempt to reach out to their communities – either as business owners or through ministries – that they can only do so on the state’s terms while advancing the state’s values. This is antithetical to the First Amendment and antithetical to fundamental American traditions.

In other words, while your church and my church will not endorse any candidate for president, that does not mean that individual congregants cannot or should not use our web of church friendships and relationships to invest fully in the outcome of this election.

In the six years that Nancy and I have run Evangelicals for Mitt, we’ve made a huge number of Mormon friends and learned a great deal from the LDS church. In fact, we’ve taken flack for urging evangelicals to emulate Mormons in your approach to missions, service, and church growth. We have long stood on the barricades against anti-Mormon bigots. But now we’re asking you to take a page from the evangelical book: Engage fully, proudly, and without hesitation.

Call your friends from your ward. Make sure they’re registered to vote. Ask them if they’ve given to Mitt’s campaign. If they need more education on the issues, equip them with materials. Don’t use church resources; use your own. Between worship and Sunday School, I can’t tell you how many conversations Nancy and I have had about Mitt, about abortion, about religious liberty, and – yes – about the economy. Politics isn’t a “dirty business;” it’s part of our life and obligations as citizens of a nation and government “of the people, by the people, for the people.”

Now is not the time for concerns about stereotyping, for false worries about “neutrality.” The church will remain nonpartisan, but you don’t have to. There are more than six million Mormons in America, and the causes of life and religious liberty need every one.

It’s time to go “all-in” for Mitt.
