Mitt Romney’s Statement on the Death of Kim Jong-il

December 19th, 2011 Luke Gunderson 2 comments

Tyrant Kim Jong-il is Dead

Mitt Romney made the following statement on the death of Kim Jong-il:

“Kim Jong-il was a ruthless tyrant who lived a life of luxury while the North Korean people starved. He recklessly pursued nuclear weapons, sold nuclear and missile technology to other rogue regimes, and committed acts of military aggression against our ally South Korea. He will not be missed. His death represents an opportunity for America to work with our friends to turn North Korea off the treacherous course it is on and ensure security in the region. America must show leadership at this time. The North Korean people are suffering through a long and brutal national nightmare. I hope the death of Kim Jong-il hastens its end.”

GAMECHANGER: Iowa’s Largest Newspaper Endorses Mitt Romney

December 18th, 2011 Luke Gunderson 1 comment

This is what Iowans will wake up to Sunday morning. Image courtesy of The Des Moines Register. (Click on image to enlarge.)

With a little over two weeks left before the votes are cast in Iowa, this boost from The Des Moines Register could be just what Mitt needs to have a strong showing there. Comparably, Mitt has spent far less time and money in Iowa than some of the other folks, so people aren’t expecting him to steal the gold – but even a silver medal behind Ron Paul would be considered a huge win for the campaign.

Take a look at what The Des Moines Register has to say about their decision to back Mitt:

Sobriety, wisdom and judgment. Those are qualities Mitt Romney said he looks for in a leader. Those are qualities Romney himself has demonstrated in his career in business, public service and government. Those qualities help the former Massachusetts governor stand out as the most qualified Republican candidate competing in the Iowa caucuses.

Sobriety: While other candidates have pandered to extremes with attacks on the courts and sermons on Christian values, Romney has pointedly refrained from reckless rhetoric and moralizing. He may be accused of being too cautious, but choosing words carefully is a skill essential for anyone who could be sitting in the White House and reacting to world events.

Wisdom: Romney obviously is very smart. He graduated as valedictorian at Brigham Young University and finished in the top 5 percent in his MBA class at Harvard, where he also earned a law degree. Romney also exhibits the wisdom of a man who listened and learned from his father and his mother, from his church and from his own trials and errors in life. He does not lack self confidence, but he is not afraid to admit when he has been wrong.

Judgment: Romney disagrees with Democrats on most issues, but he offers smart and well-reasoned alternatives rather than simply proposing to swing a wrecking ball in Washington. He is a serious student of public policy who examines the data before making a decision. His detailed policy paper on the economy contains 87 pages of carefully crafted positions on taxes, energy, trade and regulatory policy, complete with 127 footnotes.

Rebuilding the economy is the nation’s top priority, and Romney makes the best case among the Republicans that he could do that.

He stands out in the current field of Republican candidates. He has solid credentials in a career that includes running and starting successful businesses, turning around the 2002 Winter Olympics and working with both political parties as Massachusetts governor to pass important initiatives. He stands out especially among candidates now in the top tier: Newt Gingrich is an undisciplined partisan who would alienate, not unite, if he reverts to mean-spirited attacks on display as House speaker.

This ability to see the merits of tough issues from something other than a knee-jerk, ideological perspective suggests that Mitt Romney would be willing to bridge the political divide in Washington. Americans are desperate for the Republicans and Democrats to work together. His record of ignoring partisan labels to pass important legislation when he was governor of Massachusetts suggests he is capable to making that happen.

See a PDF of the print edition here.

I also got a big kick out of reading the editors’ opinion on the rest of the candidates in the GOP field. I have to say I agree with thier assesment almost to a tee.

South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley Stands With Mitt

A HUGE get for Mitt from South Carolina:

From Politico: South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, one of the most sought-after remaining Republican endorsements, will come out for Mitt Romney Friday morning, POLITICO has learned.

Haley will offer her formal endorsement on Fox and Friends, giving Romney an important boost ahead of South Carolina’s primary next month.

Romney is heading to South Carolina this weekend, where he’s likely to be joined by Haley at town hall meetings on the coast.

Haley, a tea party favorite who upended South Carolina’s GOP establishment by winning last year, has been courted by all of the GOP presidential contenders. As a state representative, she backed Romney in 2008.

New Romney Ad in Iowa: “We Have a Moral Responsibility Not to Spend More Than We Take In”

December 15th, 2011 Luke Gunderson 2 comments

At a town hall event this weekend in Charleston, South Carolina, 10-year-old Rhame Honeycutt came prepared with a question for Mitt — and he was thrilled when he got the chance to ask it.

“How are you going to prevent my generation from having to pay today’s outrageous government debt?” he asked.

Rhame’s question touches on a concern that is all too common among Americans, young and old. They want a president that will tackle government spending in order to ensure a prosperous future for America’s next generation.

Mitt has said that we have a “moral responsibility not to spend more than we take in.” That’s why he has put forward a plan to turn around the federal government. On Day One as president, he will take action to rein in out-of-control spending and finally balance the budget.

If cutting government spending is an issue that you care about, then read Mitt’s plan and share the video below:

Team Romney has launched a new micro-site today that shows the progression of Al Gore’s push for job-killing climate change legislation. When Al needed support, he went to Nancy; when Nancy wasn’t enough, he went to Newt. And Newt, the unreliable leader that he is, hopped on board.

Mitt Romney’s 2012 Campaign Song: “Born Free”

December 7th, 2011 Luke Gunderson 5 comments

Check out Mitt’s 2012 campaign theme song

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has picked a Kid Rock anthem as his campaign theme song.

Romney, a Detroit native who grew up in southeast Michigan and was the son of former Michigan Gov. George Romney, is using Kid Rock’s “Born Free.”

Ryan Williams, a Romney campaign spokesman, confirmed the move.

Kid Rock, whose real name is Bob Ritchie, was born in Romeo and has been a supporter of the Republican party and George W. Bush. Kid Rock is a big booster of Michigan and Detroit causes.

Kid Rock wrote on his blog on Wednesday that Romney “and anyone else who wants to use my song do not need my permission. I said he could use it and I would say the same for any other candidate. I have to have a little faith that every candidate feels like he or she can help this country.”

What do you think of this choice compared to the 2008 choice?
