Mitt Romney Continues His Golden Streak

Over the three major elections since the 2008 presidential election, Mitt Romney has a 3-0 record against Barack Obama when it comes to endorsing candidates that Obama has campaigned for personally.

As he builds political capital, Romney is setting himself up to be a formidable opponent in 2012.

From looking at the exit polls, it might be fair to say “Romneycare defeats Obamacare!”

So if anyone has video of Romney’s introduction of Scott Brown on Tuesday night, we’d love to post it.

In an attempt to sort through the Massachusetts fallout, Politico offers its list of special election winners and losers:

WINNERS: Romney Inc.

While the former governor and presidential candidate himself was mostly absent from the campaign trail, Romney’s advisers were responsible for the strategic vision and execution that helped propel a little-known state senator to a historic upset victory.

The Romney loyalists, now part of the Boston-based consulting shop The Shawmut Group, crafted a series of memorable ads that underscored Brown’s everyday image, including a spot of him driving an old beat-up pickup that’s already an instant political classic. Romney adviser Eric Fehrnstrom, a former reporter, deserves special kudos for his ad imagery and media management, as do aides Beth Myers, Peter Flaherty and Rob Gray.

For frequent updates about Mitt Romney’s upcoming book release, including tour dates, book signings, and media appearances, Go Here.

From GOPToast:

I hope Mitt Romney’s No Apology book tour is huge. Not only have I had this book pre-ordered since September, but I’d love to see him in general. Still haven’t ordered your copy of No Apology: The Case for American Greatness yet? Head over to Amazon and place your order now.

Dave Wedge (Boston Herald) writes:

Former Gov. Mitt Romney could square off with Sarah Palin for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination, but he’s already gearing up to take her on in the world of book sales.Palin’s bestseller has been racking up sales for the former Alaska governor and vice-presidential candidate, and now Romney’s team is planning an ambitious national tour for the March release of his new book, “No Apology: The Case for American Greatness.”

Romney aides in Utah are hoping for up to 10,000 fans at one of the first stops on the planned tour, a March 13 signing at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City. Tickets for the event go on sale later this week at www.MittRomneyUtah.com.

Published by St. Martin’s Press, the book comes out March 3.

“It’s an ideas book,” Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom said. “Governor Romney’s premise is that we have to stop apologizing for America and do what is needed to keep it the world’s superpower with a strong economy, a strong military and strong values.”

Fehrnstrom said details on the national book tour still were being worked out.

UPDATE – Romney will hit key primary states on book tour

Obama, Willing to Work with Anyone on Jobs, Must've Missed Last Week's 'USA Today'

From GOPToast:

Barack Obama recognized today the lack of support across the aisle for his job recovery ideas but claimed that he was ready to work with anyone who had ideas on the issue.

“It is appropriate that I met with leaders of both parties. Spurring hiring and economic growth are not Democratic or Republican issues. They are American issues,” he says. “I am absolutely committed to working with anybody who is willing to do the job.”

Calling for Washington to tackle the issues with “seriousness of purpose,” Obama wraps up: “I hope that as we enter the holiday season, the leaders I just met with will feel the same way.” And that’s all.

Well, Obama, it seems that you missed a certain edition of USA Today last week. And you missed most of the Internet. And, hey, even Twitter. While you were off having your pretend jobs summit, Mitt Romney was doing exactly what you just asked for. The top-ranked 2012 contender published his 10-point plan to fix the economy and create new jobs. Doesn’t that fall exactly in the “seriousness of purpose” range? Yeah, some people are out there claiming to know how to fix the economy or even offering a suggestion or two. Romney laid out an entire plan. How did Obama miss that one?
From Day One of Obama’s presidency he has sworn that he wanted all voices, all ideas. That’s never been the case though. If it was, people like Romney would’ve been asked to help from the beginning. Obama continues to talk one game while playing a completely different one.

Romney Discusses Huckabee and Pardons on Larry King

From GOPToast:

This is a short clip (still looking for video of the entire interview from last night) but it’s not hard to once again see why Mitt Romney is lightyears ahead of the other 2012 contenders. Others candidates, if asked by Larry King to discuss the downfall of their opponents, very likely would’ve torn into those opponents. Romney though quickly brushes aside King’s window to take shots at Huckabee and moves on, offering facts about his own personal record.

Update: Here is the full video. Portion about Huckabee is at about 8:00.

Romney talks about the state of Obama on Hannity

From GOPToast:
This is what a president should sound like. This is what a 2012 contender should sound like. In twelve minutes, Mitt Romney tackles just about every subject America is dealing with today, from the stateside trial of a terrorist mastermind to the economy to Afghanistan … to Sarah Palin. And he does it all without sounding petty or childish. Sarah Palin, this is how you move beyond 2008. Mike Huckabee, this is how you grow up and stop trying to start immature fights with people in your own party.

How many months away does everyone think we are from Romney finally confirming that he’s a candidate in 2012? After the elections next November? End of 2010?

Thanks to ComMITTed to Romney for landing to the audio.

Will Romney Be Invited to Obama's Jobs Summit?

November 12th, 2009 GOPToast 6 comments

Barack Obama announced today that come December, he’ll be holding a jobs summit. Looks like the 10.2 percent unemployment rate and the failure of the massive stimulus bill now has the White House grasping at straws, hoping to find something that works now.

Or, at least give Americans the impression that they’re trying to find something that works.

“I’m hoping that this is not just another press conference,” House Republican Whip Eric Cantor told POLITICO. “We’ve seen a lot of these dog and pony shows out of the White House, but there’s no follow through.” Cantor complained that the White House has not listened to Republican ideas on job creation.

When I first heard this news, my immediate thought was, “Mitt Romney has to be invited to this jobs summit, right? It would only make sense.” But then I realized that Obama would never invite Romney to such a thing. Just like Obama never once considered Romney to be his auto czar. While someone who is truly trying to solve these kinds of problems would include Romney, we have to remember that Obama is still playing politics. I will be shocked if Romney is invited to participate in Obama’s jobs summit.

Think of it this way: Obama holds his jobs summit and invites Romney to participate. Jobs summit is successful. Romney is now able to trumpet his success at jobs summit. In the end, Obama gave Romney the means to prove he can accomplish what Obama has failed to do over the past year. Romney now has this to use against Obama in 2012.

So don’t expect to see Romney’s name on the jobs summit roster. Like Cantor said, this is only a dog and pony show.
