New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, shown campaigning for Governor Mitt Romney, was the first national political figure to endorse him during the GOP primary season. Christie will deliver the keynote address at the Republican National Convention (Aug 27-30, 2012).
Great pick!
The keynote speaker for the Republican National Convention August 27-30 has been selected.
The plum assignment goes to New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
Announcement today from Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus:
“As governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie has proven how bold Republican leadership gets results. He has fearlessly tackled his state’s most difficult challenges, while looking out for hardworking taxpayers. He is a leader of principle and conviction, and I am excited to hear him address the Republican National Convention as our keynote speaker. Governor Christie will make the case for America’s Comeback Team and will rally our party and country in support of the Romney-Ryan ticket,” said Chairman Priebus.
“It is an honor to be able to address our party and our nation in just a few short weeks. The challenges we face as a country are great and require the honesty and boldness of the Romney-Ryan team. We have an opportunity in Tampa to make clear that if we tell each other the hard truths, tackle the big problems, and make bold choices, we will see America’s comeback,” said Governor Christie.
“Chris Christie is a national leader in the Republican Party. His leadership proves how the common-sense principles of reducing spending and cutting taxes works in New Jersey and will work for America,” said Republican National Convention Chief Executive Officer William Harris.
Christie’s Bio:
Chris Christie was sworn in as governor of New Jersey on January 19, 2010.
Since taking office, Governor Christie has taken action on an aggressive reform agenda to restore fiscal integrity and accountability to state and local government, combat New Jersey’s highest in the nation property taxes, institute historic reform of the state’s pension and health benefits system, and bring about necessary changes to public education in order to identify and turn around failing schools and give every child access to a quality education.
Under Governor Christie, New Jersey has drawn national attention for taking on the biggest, toughest challenges facing the state with real solutions and bipartisan cooperation.
A lifelong New Jerseyan, Governor Chris Christie, 49, has a deep affection for and strong commitment to the state in which he has spent his entire life.
Governor Christie has been a strong vocal defender of Romney and knows how to deliver a grand slam speech. I’m so looking forward to hearing him!
More convention news…
The nod has been given to Florida Senator Marco Rubio to introduce Governor Mitt Romney when he officially accepts the GOP presidential nomination:
Rubio, who campaigned with Romney in Florida on Monday, told CNN that he thinks the former Massachusetts governor made the right choice in choosing Ryan.
…
Rubio, who was elected in 2010, is well regarded by conservatives and tea party activists.
From the Sunshine State News:
Republican National Chairman Reince Priebus announced Tuesday morning that freshman Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, 41-year-old son of Cuban immigrants, one of the party’s brightest stars, has been chosen to introduce presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney at the Republican National Convention in Tampa.
“This will firmly establish Marco as the man to watch in the GOP,” said political consultant Joel Endelman. “He gets a chance to shine in his own state, a state Romney has to have to win the White House. The boy is on his way.”
On Monday Rubio warmly and enthusiastically introduced Romney, who in turn spent as much time promoting Rubio as his choice for running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin.
…
“Marco Rubio symbolizes the greatness of the American dream. He is the perfect leader to introduce Mitt Romney when he accepts his nomination. We are an extraordinary country because we have fought to preserve individual liberties that are the heartbeat of opportunity and achievement. Senator Rubio has experienced this in his own life, which will help him bring tremendous focus to how Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan’s agenda will lead the way to a better tomorrow,” said Republican National Convention Chief Executive Officer William Harris.
Rubio will be in Texas tomorrow to help raise money for Romney.

Governor Romney’s acceptance address is sure to be knock-your-socks-off powerful and inspiring. More Americans will tune in to watch it than any other GOP election event besides the debates in October. In 2008, more than 38 million Americans watched McCain and Obama deliver their acceptance speeches.
Can’t wait!
