Mitt Romney Rocks the House at Eagle Manufacturing in Shelby Twp. Michigan

This event could hardly have gone any better. The Campaign provided a Paczki to attendees of today’s townhall which has a great touch. Today is fat Tuesday and Paczki’s are a super-fattening and wildly popular polish tradition here in Michigan. People love to indulge in one last snack before they give up sweets or try to lose weight between now and Easter.

A man from Canada asked a question about healthcare and how to care for mentally ill citizens, and during his question, he informed Gov. Romney that the man wouldn’t give Mitt his Canadian health care card. Mitt said with a smile, “I don’t want it.” to huge cheers.

There were a ton of great questions, no disturbances from protestors (perhaps due to the snow prior to the event), and a much bigger crowd than initially anticipated. Campaign generally like to keep townhall events under 250 people to create a bit of a more intimate setting. However, once this event was announced, the campaign was inundated with people wanting to RSVP. As you can see from the pictures, this event had to be greatly expanded to fit everyone in.

The man in the above picture is a 94-year-old veteran of World War II who told a story about George Romney tossing apples up into the crowd at Michigan football games while he was Governor here in Michigan. I thought it was appropriate that Mitt was providing the townhall guests each with a paczki on the day this wonderful veteran (and retired Chrysler worker) reminisced about Mitt’s father George.

The final question was by a woman who said she came into the event undecided and that she was very impressed by the event even though she had attended a Santorum event last week. She said her mind was almost made up to support Mitt, but that she had just one last question. The question was about abortion and gay-marriage and Mitt hit it out of the park.

As full video of the event surfaces, we’ll post it here.

I do so wish I could attend a Mitt Romney event…I was part of a community chorus in Sault Ste. Marie in the 50′s….during Michigan Week, we dedicated part of our concert to past and the sitting governor…George Romney…we sang appropriate songs for each..Governor Romney was treated to Stouthearted Men!!! during intermission, Gov.Romney raced behind stage to shake hands and thank us for the wonderful tribute…I shall never forget that night…. Mitt Romney has our votes…I want yard signs, I want to volunteer for his Michigan campaign after he wins the nomination.

Mitt will be in AZ tomorrow and the state is buzzing about his arrival. Gooo Mitt!!! MI you’ll forever be grateful for casting your vote for mitt on the 28th. He will do what is right!

  8. Mitt needs to stick with the economy where Obama can’t win. The social issues are and will be a trap sprung by the left to distract from BO’s abject failure and to ensnare Mitt and all our guys. Focus on the message “I FIX broken organizations for a living” relentlessly and provide a few powerful solutions that show the broad philosophical gap between the 2 parties, and we can’t lose.

  9. AfricansforRomney says:

Gov Romney is great as usual. Most of the time his economic messages are around small business, small banks.
I wish Gov Romney talks about the average Joe who gets a pay check and cannot afford $4 gas per gal, the high living costs especially, for elderly passionately.

I want him to talk more about college kids who can’t find a good paying jobs, grown up kids who are still living with their parents with no hope and change under Obama, college costs with possible solution,
I want him to talk how he’s going to change Obama’s 3+ years society entitlement culture…

    Indpendents for Romney!!

:( I wish I was there! MITT, COME TO VIRGINIA!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is what Santorum did for college kids – Rick voted to cut billions in loans that help middle class students afford college, but he voted to give oil companies an additional $2 billion in new tax breaks.Watch our ad about this from 2006:Roll Call 363, H.R. 6, December 21, 2005Santorum voted to concur with the House amendments to S. 1932, the Deficit Reduction Omnibus Reconciliation Act of 2005

Yet the reaction of the American public has been more muted. And that has probably emboldened Congress — which, instead of investigating oil companies, just handed them (by various estimates) anywhere from $1.4 billion to $4 billion in tax breaks in the new energy bill.”
