Romney Unleashes on Gingrich: “Washington Lobbyist, Disgraced Leader”

Now, we’re talkin’!

Standing in front of a home-building supply business yesterday, Governor Romney kicked off his Florida campaign. And, he’s telling it like it is…

Mitt Romney: Newt Gingrich is a ‘failed leader,’ ‘disgrace’
Politico
Reid J. Epstein – Jan 22, 2012

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – Mitt Romney landed here Sunday with a simple message: Newt Gingrich is a failure and a fraud. And a disgrace. And a hapless showman.

Standing under a brilliant orange Florida sunset, Romney delivered his longest sustained critique of the South Carolina primary winner to date – ticking through a list as if he were reading off Gingrich’s Wikipedia page, and undercutting each item as he got to it.

“Speaker Gingrich has also been a leader,” the former Massachusetts governor said. “He was a leader for four years as speaker of the House. And at the end of four years, it was proven that he was a failed leader and he had to resign in disgrace. I don’t know whether you knew that, he actually resigned after four years, in disgrace.”

Romney continued: “He was investigated over an ethics panel and had to make a payment associated with that and then his fellow Republicans, 88 percent of his Republicans voted to reprimand Speaker Gingrich. He has not had a record of successful leadership.”

Then Romney got into Gingrich’s post-congressional career.

Over the last 15 years since he left the House, he talks about great bold movements and ideas,” he told the crowd of several hundred people gathered at a building materials company here. “Well, what’s he been doing for 15 years? He’s been working as a lobbyist, yeah, he’s been working as a lobbyist and selling influence around Washington.”

Epstein then writes that Romney then tore into Gingrich and his role at Freddie Mac and Florida’s real estate crash. Elaborating on Newt’s bombastic, bellowing stage presence, The Gov went straight to the heart of the election with this zinger:

We’re not choosing a talk show host, all right? We’re choosing a leader, we’re choosing the person who should be the leader of the free world,” Romney said.

It’s high time Gov Romney revved it up! He’s got to. Get the truth out there and take no prisoners. Voters want passion. I’m thrilled.

And, regarding Gingrich’s pious baloney debate performance on Saturday night, leave it to Newt to get sanctimonious about cheating on two wives.

Applause!! Expose Newt far and wide, Mitt. People need to see and hear what he is really about. Best not to assume they already know and educate them until they know it by heart.

  2. Abc123 says:

That’s what I’m talking about mitt! America needs to know the truth. I’m glad you’re playing offense, it’s time newt quit stomping all over u like a door mat.

  3. Stan says:

There’s a time to be cordial and polite and there’s a time to take off the gloves and that time is now. It’s fine everyone is saying the same thing about Mr. Grinch but the people need to hear it from you. A leader will tell the truth and warn the people. Hit it hard in Florida Mitt!

  4. DR K says:

Given today’s increasingly dire polling ratios, Mitt needs to unleash his inner warrior-leader archetype, for, to paraphrase Jung, “he who speaks in archetypes, speaks with a thousand voices.” Studies show that warriorship is a leading factor in the perception of leadership; that’s why candidates, male and female alike, utter and repeat martial terms and concepts (like “fighting for you” and similar bombastic phrases).

So, gird up your loins, Mitt, and fight!

  5. Vic Lundquist says:

Governor Romney will do just fine. He is ready for the fight and will handle the fight well.

  6. ccr says:

Gov. Romney HAS to fight/”smack down” Newt in FL. He’s gotta show not only FL, but the rest of the country he’s got the fortitude……..not just the right kind of economic experience desperately need……..to go after Obama.

He’s got to show the fight and passion to NOT LET a GUY like Gingrich represent the GOP!

Prayers for Mitt today and tonight that he will show that COURAGE, that FIGHT, that PASSIOn to SAVE the SOUL of the GOP and America!

  7. Janet says:

Mitt’s character led him to take the high road through this campaign, but it is clear Newt’s penchant for self-aggrandizing paid off in SC & the debates. Newt’s hypocracy & performance of righteous indignation that his character would be attacked & his triade against the negativity of the press was the height of hypocracy. No candidate is more negative than Newt. Mitt has got to get comfortable fighting in the only way that Newt and Obama have been most successful. That is propaganda stating a lies over & over enough will leave voters believing the lie. We are in a battle for the heart, mind & soul of the United States. Pray for the blinders to be removed from our citizens to see the truth thru the lies. Mitt’s campaign has got to attack Newt head-on from now on! We, as his supporters, must do our part to educate our family, friends, & anyone who will listen to the truth!
