FULL DEBATE ADDED – Who Won the Back-to-Back New Hampshire Debates?

One down, one to go. Before you do anything else, take a moment to VOTE for Mitt in the polls we’ve posted here. We’ll probably add more polls to vote in once the Sunday morning debate is over.

Michael Barone writes: “At about 10:28pm tonight, as Mitt Romney pivoted from a question on tax loopholes and started in with, “the real issue is vision,” I had recorded this thought in my notes, “He just clinched the nomination.””

Mitt is doing a perfect job on this debate. Did you see how he handeled this guy-marriage issue? There is no way to do it better!

    Mr. Romney,

I was giving consideration to voting for you, but a scurrilous remark you made recently relating to ham radio operators gives me cause for concern, grave concern indeed! I don’t know if you are cognizant of the fact that we hams “saved the day”, several of them in fact when Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast a few years ago. Were it not for ham radio operators, the damage would have been far more severe and many more lives would have been lost. When the storm hit, all of that sophisticated cell phone equipment came crashing down and it was down for several weeks. Likewise normal means of public safety communications came crashing down. Police, fire and emergency management departments couldn’t communicate because all normal sources of electrical power were destroyed or severely damaged and when fuel supplies for emergency generators ran out that made the situation all the worse!

Obviously you are not aware of the fact that several thousand American, Canadian and even Mexican hams stepped in utilizing their portable and mobile stations to provide emergency communications to numerous hospitals, police and fire departments, emergency management agencies, the Salvation Army, the Red Cross, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and other agencies far too numerous to mention here. Amateur Radio Operators provided their services to all of these agencies at not one red cent’s expense to any taxpayer, quite an achievement in these days of tax and spend politicians! I would invite your attention to the fact that the word “Amateur” when speaking of amateur radio operators is somewhat of a misnomer in that many, if not most so-called “amateur” radio operators are professionals in every sense of the word! The word “AMATEUR” when used in this context refers to the fact that Amateur Radio Operators are not paid for any of the services that they (we) provide. Many of us are (myself included) are former military communicators. Many of us operated at one time or another from ships at sea as High Seas Radio Officers or from aircraft and naval vessels gathering electronic intelligence or any one of a number of other occupations. Try telling Walter Cronkite (KB2GSD) God rest his soul, that he’s an amateur or even Roy Neal (K6DUE) that he’s an amateur or even the astronauts and cosmonauts on the International Space Station most of whom are ham radio operators that THEY are amateurs. Try telling the crewmembers of the USS Pueblo, the unarmed U.S. Navy ship that got pirated by the North Koreans back on January 23, 1968 (many of whom were my friends) that THEY are amateurs. If you did, you would probably get a response that would turn a Boatswain’s Mate’s face as red as a Harvard Beet!

Mr. Romney, I would urge and counsel you to engage your what seems to be a brain the size of an amoeba before putting your mouth in gear when speaking about any issue that you are not fully conversant on, because if you don’t you’re opening yourself and your campaign and maybe even the presidency to some very serious criticism far worse than you could ever imagine! You pay a great deal of money to your staff to keep you updated on the issues I would suggest that you take their wise counsel most seriously.

    Sincerely,
