The GOP Presidential Endorsement Chart

The following is cross-posted here at MRC with permission from Matt Coulter. The original post “Endorsement Chart Update” can be found at Race 4 2012. I appreciate the work Matt has done in gathering and tallying all this info and laying it out in a snappy table. The tally for Mitt is quite impressive.

This afternoon, Romney announced the endorsement of Alaska’s Lt. Governor Mead Treadwell and former U.S. Congresswoman Susan Molinari (NY). In the week since last publishing the endorsement chart, Romney has added quite a few new backers.

The endorsement categories are below, and the list of the endorsers are below the fold. Remember, this does not take into account every endorsement a candidate announces – it is simply an attempt to keep track of some of the more important ones. Therefore, it is not the end all, be all of candidate endorsements – but hopefully it is a useful tool.

  • Group 1: Sitting Governors
  • Group 2: Current U.S. Senators and Representatives
  • Group 3: Current Lt Governors, Attorney Generals, other notable statewide officeholders
  • Group 4: Former Governors, U.S. Senators, and U.S. Representatives
  • Group 5: RNC Members
Group I Group II Group III Group IV Group V
Romney 3 25 13 17 11
Perry 3 11 2
Gingrich 1 6
Paul 3
Huntsman 1 1
Santorum 1

Names are below the fold. As always, if I missed anyone let me know in the comments.

Herman Cain was endorsed by former Surgeon General C Everett Koop. You said he had no endorsements. Though I’m not sure what category that would fall under.

    Hey guys,
I’m studying film editing, and I’ve decided to use Mitt Romeny’s speeches as the basis for my exercises. Personally, I feel Mitt’s speeches are constantly improving, and are now reaching the universal & historical quality of Reagan’s speeches.

Here’s my first clip based on the opening and closing remarks of Mitt’s citadel speech. I’d love to hear your feedback, so I can improve and create better Romney videos in the future.

    Thanks :)

  5. Graham says:

I’m pretty sure Lt. Gov. Krolicki (NV) has also endorsed Mitt.

    Elazar, that was excellent.

  7. Barbara WAnlass says:

Elazar, I too think this video is very well done. It gave me chills to watch the images as Romney was speaking with Reaganess clarity and appropriate passion, especially that last line.

  8. Barbara WAnlass says:

Elazar, can we share this on facebook?

  9. Barbara Wanlass says:

Name is spelled Wanlass, not WAnlass :-/

  10. Elazar says:

Thanks for the nice comments guys! Can’t wait till Romney is president.
And Barbara, of course, please share this on facebook…
