After a late night at the presidential debate and stopping by his campaign headquarters in Manchester for a post-debate party with staffers, it’s no surprise Mitt Romney was on the diner campaign trail bright ‘n early this morning – listening to concerned voters in The Granite State:

Mitt Romney Marches Onward

DERRY, N.H. – This morning, newly minted presidential candidate Michele Bachmann took the first flight out of New Hampshire, but Mitt Romney stuck around. Both candidates helped themselves at last night’s debate — Bachmann especially, since so little was expected of her. After her performance, she’s sure to get a turn in the spotlight. But debates alone don’t win the nomination. Especially in the early states, voters expect plenty of one-on-one attention. So by hitting the campaign trail early this morning, Romney probably did more to help himself.

He hit a couple of breakfast spots before winding up at the Derry Feed and Supply store just before lunch for some empathetic talk with the locals and a short press conference. Several of the locals who showed up mentioned that they had seen him campaign four years ago, and Romney managed to put this experience to use. “I was in these very shops four or five years ago, when I ran for office,” he said. “Things aren’t better now than they were four or five years ago. This has been a tough time for Derry. You see some shops that have been boarded up, and people who are running shops have indicated that business is trailing off. They expected things to get better in 2011. It hasn’t happened. You can’t blame George W. Bush anymore. President Obama is going to have to take responsibility for the fact that we’re still in a very troubled economy.”

Romney also hit on the rising unemployment number, and turned the discussion to jobs. “The president needs to recognize that there’s a crisis in this country and devote every ounce of his energy to getting Americans back to work,” he said. “It’s a loud and clear message that our president is just not connected with what’s happening in America, and his policies have failed us.”

  1. Yes it’s no time for noobs who were an acorn organizer

Did Mitt really say that he doesn’t believe in federal disaster aid? How can I possibly vote for somebody as heartless as that?

  3. Katrina says:

LOL! No plates like chrome for the hollandaise. That sounds just like my dad. This is why voters who meet him instantly like him.

Marilyn, some of us believe in compassion separate from the federal government. I don’t want compassion from any entity who’s going to lord it over me later and require things from me. I want it from the truly charitable. That’s why I’m for individuals, nonprofits, and churches providing necessary aid. Let’s face it. They’re more efficient AND more compassionate than federal government ever could be.

Katrina, I’ve seen it work with individuals, nonprofits, and churches, and I’ve seen it not work. There has to be a fall-back, a safety net. When my father-in-law and mother-in-law lost their trailer home to a tornado, the Mennonites stepped in and built them a little house. However, when local churches tried to take over the health care needs for children in the moderately sized city, they fell miserably short of funds. Some states are HUGE, with limited population. How are things going for the tornado victims in Missouri and Alabama? If you know?

  5. Marilyn says:

Katrina, I heard it for myself and he didn’t say that he doesn’t believe in federal disaster relief at all, he said it would be better for the states to control the program and I have to agree with him on that. It would be better for each state to be given federal funding, or to get some kind of tax break for giving to disaster relief, so that states control it themselves. Who better than the people who live and work in the state to know what is needed where? He’s correct in asking what could the states do better for themselves?

Just a brief note to advise you that a Cleveland based company namely Cardinal Fastner located in Bedford Hts, Ohio filed for a Chapter 11 Bankrupcy restructuring. Interestingly this is the same company that Presdient Obama visited in 2009 prior to his inauguration. “praising the firm as an example of a business that was adding jobs and building the green energy industry. This appeared in the Plain Dealers July 1st edition in the business section. Good luck and God Bless.
