Romney Has Dinner with New Jersey’s Governor Christie – Is There an Alliance in the Works?

Mitt & Chris: My two favorite dudes in politics.

I’ve had my fingers crossed for a long time, hoping that there would be some direct contact between my two favorite politicians (at the moment). Well, I can finally uncross those fingers — it looks like the two met up for dinner at the NJ Governor’s mansion just last night.

Might there be a 2012 alliance in the works? NJ.com reports:

TRENTON — Gov. Chris Christie hosted a frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination on Monday night, sitting down with Mitt Romney for dinner at the governor’s mansion.

Nearly two dozen people, including some of Christie’s top political advisers and party leaders, gathered for the meeting with the former Massachusetts governor at Drumthwacket, according to three sources.

The sources described the dinner as an informal discussion without any specific talk of endorsements in New Jersey’s Republican presidential primary, which is still a year away. Romney has been laying the groundwork for a second presidential campaign, although he has not yet formally announced his candidacy.

What do you think was discussed over dinner? Greedy teacher’s unions? Jersey Shore’s favorite orange phenomenon, Snooki? Future VP picks? …I look forward to your speculation in the comments below.

Addendum by Nate: I screen-capped an interesting Facebook status update yesterday. It’s a little gem that gives us a peek into the true character of Mitt Romney. I thought this event was perhaps a long while ago, but when I saw Aaron’s post just now I put 2 and 2 together…
Rondom Mitt Facebook Post
At first I thought this lady was motivated to post her experience because she was perhaps a fan of Romney, but as I browsed her profile I saw she has no political leanings whatsoever. Rather, this lady, not accustomed to being noticed by “dignitaries” they serve, was quite impressed that Romney stopped to shake hands and thank each of them for their great service. Romney an elitist? I think not.

I’ve said all along that Christie would support Mitt Romney for President. I would say this is a big step toward its fruition. He was probably doing it for the benefit of giving the others invited a good look at Mitt so that they will also come out strongly for Mitt. I like this a lot!!!

  2. Gnostic Priest says:

Mitt’s mercurial mind enhanced with Christie’s rawness might just be the medicine the doctor
    should prescribe.

Someone just wrote the reason evangelicals will vote for Mitt. Mitt will not jepardize church tax
exemptions …………. Personal survival is a very good motivator. Why even take a chance ?

So Mitt can focus on Obama as soon as possible we most support Mitt Romney early.

Christie debating Biden would be worth watching–for the entertainment value.

I don’t think that Governor Christie will join the GOP ticket next year, but his support of Mr. Romney would swing many people to Mr. Romney’s side. I could see him giving a big speech at the convention, and that speech could help introduce him to the country for a future run. I became much more interested in Mr. Romney after hearing his 2004 convention speech.

What a great addendum by Nate! Thanks so much for adding that “gem!” Not that it surprises me at all, but I love to see these stories surface to shine the light of truth on what Mitt really is all about.
