Congressman Pence Introduces Bill to Defund Planned Parenthood of Taxpayer Dollars

This isn’t the first time we at Mitt Romney Central have highlighted the efforts of Congressman Mike Pence. The Republican Party is fortunate to have more staunch conservatives who are also very effective communicators than they used to.

While some may think it’s a mistake for us to highlight the efforts of a potential opponent to Gov. Romney for the 2012 Republican nomination for the presidency, we simply feel that the cause Congressman Pence is leading is too important to ignore. Plus, before we all get caught up in the upcoming primary season, it’s important to realize that we’re all on the same team.

Before pro-choice and pro-life activists start getting all riled up, make sure you are aware of what this bill is about. As many of us can remember from the health care debate, regardless of where people stand on the abortion issue at large, a vast majority of the country does not think it is appropriate for tax payer dollars to be spent on abortions. This bill won’t shut down Planned Parenthood or stop people from getting abortions. This bill simply will end the enormous mistake of causing all Americans who pay taxes to also be paying for abortions with some of those tax dollars. Even if you still think that we shouldn’t strip Planned Parenthood of their tax dollars, think about the budget deficit. Tax dollars have been going to far too many places they shouldn’t for far too long and hopefully this is just the beginning to getting the size of our government back in line.

This bill really is a no-brainer and if your representative hasn’t joined the other 123 co-sponsors yet, ask them to sign on.

If you still don’t know why this is such a big deal, check out this blog.

Below is Mike Pence’s statement followed by the video of his introduction of the bill on the house floor:

It is morally wrong to end an unborn human life by abortion. It is also morally wrong to take the taxpayer dollars of millions of pro-life Americans and use them to promote abortion at home or abroad.

Last year, Planned Parenthood received more than $363 million in revenue from government grants and contracts. During that same time, they performed an unprecedented 324,008 abortions.

The largest abortion provider in America should not also be the largest recipient of federal funding under Title X.

The Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act will prevent any family planning funds under Title X from going to Planned Parenthood or other organizations that perform abortions. It will ensure that abortion providers are not being subsidized with federal tax dollars.

I am grateful for the support of more than 122 original co-sponsors….

    As much as I like Congressman Pence, I do hope he runs for Governor of Indiana instead of for President. Wouldn’t it be great if Mike Huckabee doesn’t run in part because Mike Pence looks like he will and then Pence ends up running for Governor anyway?

  2. victoria_29 says:

    Romney doesn’t have to worry a RINO like him is not even in same class as Mike Pence.

  3. victoria_29 says:

    @Dan
    You hope Pence runs for Governor because that is only way a RINO like Mitt Romneycare can have any chance of winning nomination-which even if Pence is out is highly unlikely.

  4. Dan says:

    @victoria_29

    I’m a bit confused by your statement. Are you saying that Mitt or Mike or both are RINOs? I would vehemently disagree with any of those statements, but at least I can take comfort in the fact that someone as confused as you is unable to coherently express your delusions.

    “It is morally wrong to end an unborn human life by abortion. It is also morally wrong to take the taxpayer dollars of millions of pro-life Americans and use them to promote abortion at home or abroad.”

    It is also morally wrong to wage war in places that are no threat to the U. S., to spy on innocent American citizens, to dumb down America for profit, to presume all air travelers are terrorists, etc, but that don’t stop it from happening.

  6. RegretVoting4Obama says:

    Please don’t defund planned parenthood. Think about all the
    social welfare programs we save on when these women abort an
    unwanted baby.

  7. RegretVoting4Obama says:

    Mike I really like you but you are making a big mistake by doing this…If these are early term abortions to low income people think of all the future monies saved in future social welfare programs. I am an Independent voter and Catholic, but I think there should be a planned parenthood in every urban area of America. No, I’m not racist, but I am logical.

  8. Dan says:

    @RegretVoting4Obama
    Planned Parenthood won’t cease to exist if this passes, it just won’t get federal money. It will still get millions upon millions of private donations.

  9. RegretVoting4Obama says:

    If Mike runs on social topics he is going to lose.. Stay away from social topics. It’s one of the reasons Independents went with Republicans last Nov is because they left social topics like gay marriage and abortion out of it. 2012 is way to important for a Republican to screw up getting Obama out of office.

    I agree with the first part of one particular post but the second half is off base. Using taxpayers dollars for anything that address a small minority of people and rides the fence on the morality of what it s doing is wreckless. If it is so important to the minorty, the cause will receive adequate interest to generate profits through fundraising and donations. If musicians can pick a pulpit to preach from about their views and then hold events like, “Farm-Aid” to raise millions of dollars, they can do it for Planned Parenthood. A large percentage of those who donate to these events or pay for tickets to attend are those who are passionate about the cause and the end result is the minority gets their service and the majority doesn’t have to pay for it. It is when we let the government run such programs that we, the taxpayer, foot the costly bill. This same thought process can be placed against any other unnecessarily funded go government programs. Lets no dumb down the people. Let the private industry work and the U.S. will pull out of the slump it is in. As far as the posts in second paragraph, I believe you are disillusioned by the hype of the left. As former Vice President Dick Cheney has so intuitively mentioned, all the words spewed during the last presidential elections condemning the post 9/11 response, Guantanamo Bay, Predator Drone attacks and wire tapping are now slowly being eaten by the current administration. They are realizing that the world view of peace and brotherhood is a hard battle to wage and what the former administration implemented was needed to keep us at peace. Don’t fool yourself in thinking that the average American citizen needs to know what our government has to do behind the scenes to keep us safe. You would not want to experience the alternative. It is a crazy world out there so unless you have been abroad an seen it first hand I recommend you get that knowledge before throwing daggers. I recommend that the people get educated about what is really happening and not base their opinions and views off from MSNBC or Fox News. The couch is not the place from which to preach.
