VIDEO: Mitt Romney on the The Tonight Show w/ Jay Leno

December 2nd, 2010 11:01 am Author: Nate Gunderson

Mitt struck the perfect balance of levity and seriousness in his appearance on Jay Leno’s show last night. The opening skit was short but very humorous – brilliant idea to have it take place while getting their hair done. Watch the video below. How did Mitt do?

Update – I think I know the where Jay Leno found that picture of Mitt with bad hair. Hint: try googling “mitt romney bad hair” I wish all the folks watching the program could know the story behind that picture.

Update 2 by Jayde – Regarding the ‘Romney bad hair’ photo Leno revealed on The Tonight Show last night, Governor Romney doesn’t flaunt his quiet works of service (dialogue re pic seen @ 17:24, pic @ 17: 38). For the real story, click here.

Update 3 – Mitt takes questions back-stage:

Update 4 by Jayde – Photos from Mitt’s appearance on The Tonight Show:

Update 5 by Jayde – (H/t Crystal) Erik Hayden from The Atlantic Wire.com posted a good write-up on Mitt/Leno:

Morning Vid: Mitt Romney Always Says the Right Thing

Memo to Jay Leno: Don’t bother trying to bait Mitt Romney with leading questions about Sarah Palin. He won’t bite. The ex-Massachusetts governor will just smile and give the least newsworthy praise possible about the budding reality TV star (she’s a “remarkable,” “qualified,” and “capable” person). On Wednesday night, Leno tried—again and again—to keep prodding Romney to utter at least one veiled shot at his potential 2012 primary competitor.

To no avail. Asked if he would have quit his Massachusetts post in a way similar to how Palin left the Alaska governorship, Romney merely responded that “being governor is really the best job you can think of” and explained that there was a different set of circumstances involved. When Mitt finally gathered that Leno wasn’t interested in how much he loved being governor, he had this carefully-calibrated quip ready: “If someone’s looking for me to say something negative about Sarah Palin, why, that’s not going to come from me. Did you see what she did to the halibut the other night on her show? I’m not in for that.”

Mitt did AWESOME! …Wonder what other TV spots he will pick from now until the announcement?

He’s doing a good job at staying relevant and underexposed by selecting the media appearances he makes.

    Calm & cool…that’s the Mitt I know.

Calm: He’s comfortable talking about issues because he’s dealt with them. Call me crazy, but I’m tired of people voting for inexperienced candidates. Mitt has more experience than all of them.

Cool: Mitt is a down-to-earth guy. For all the success he’s had, you’d think he’d be full of himself & seeking after power and recognition…but you’d be wrong. His desire to pull America out of this huge hole it’s in and fortify it like never before stems from his gratitude to this great land & the freedom it has given him.

Those who don’t like Mitt simply don’t know him.

People who don’t like Mitt are one of these: bigoted, jealous, or liberal/communist/anarchist.

No one with a rational thinking process can dislike this guy.

I think Mitt did fantastic, to bad he was not put in as President in the first place, we would not be in the mess we are now in. He is very bright and has all the good qualities a President shoul have. I can not wait for him to announce he is running for President. We need him to give us back our Beautiful America that we all have been blessed with.

We have some real Rock Stars that will probably run in 2012.
Mike, Sarah, Newt. But come on, none have the education, business experience, intellect that Mitt has. I get so tired of all the negative post on many sites. If these dembats would just really look at this good man and stop the politicing, they’d see that Mitt is way beyond Obama in quality and knowledge. I guess all the lies and critics that spout this nonsense is just part of the game.

I guess it’s taken three years to realize his fake niceness was actually real.

If Mitt loved being governor so much, why didn’t he run for a second term?

@From Boston Surely, if he thought whipping MA into shape was fun, than bringing America back to greatness would be incredible!

He was simply hungering for something bigger; and so are we.

@From Boston because Mitt decided to run for the 2008 Republican nomination. Is this a trick question?

Well, he’s not the comedian in chief, but he’s right on the issues. He knows what he’s talking about, he has credibility, and EXPERIENCE!!! I know your trying to be likable Mitt, but don’t try so many jokes. Your likable and charismatic just talking about the issues, like Bill Clinton. Maybe a funny story. I love ya man, but I’m just giving you honest criticism.
