Breast Cancer Awareness Month: 2007 Flashback Video of Mitt Discussing Cancer and Research Funding

I’ve been watching Major League Soccer with great interest this month, mainly because my team is on a hot streak. It would be hard to watch any MLS game this month and not realize that it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Numerous players are sporting the pink armbands; the normal ball has been replaced with a white and pink ball, and the MLS website had an all bright-pink theme up until yesterday.

In recognition of this month long theme I wanted to share the short video below of Romney discussing breast cancer and research funding. I don’t know the name of the forum that this took place in, but it was while he was a Presidential candidate in November 2007.

My Aunt: Ann Summers

Breast cancer hits close to home for many of us. My aunt, Ann Summers, a great woman with whom I worked for many years fell victim to breast cancer a couple years ago – she was in her late fifties. She was well loved, and is greatly missed.

Early detection is key. This lesson is taught to us by another Ann that we all know and love: Ann Romney. The future FLOTUS was diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2008 while in its very early stages. She discussed her diagnosis and treatment in a Fox and Friends interview she did with her husband in January of this year.

Nate, sorry to hear of the loss of your Aunt Ann to BC.

Listening to Mitt speak about this important topic is another reminder of his expertise in management, the wise use of public funding to maximize results, and that he’s concerned with this vital primarily women’s issue.

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer found in women (besides skin cancer). Each year, in the United States alone, more than 192,000 women are diagnosed with this disease. It may be surprising to know that each year about 2,000 U.S. men are also diagnosed with breast cancer.

It’s a hideous disease and my heart goes out to all who are touched by it. I’m so glad that Ann Romney is doing well and I hope she gets the opportunity to be our next First Lady!

    Jayde,
My little girl’s middle name is Ann for that reason. She was a great lady!

  3. Jayde Wyatt says:

Luke, let me amend my first statement in my original comment:

To the Gunderson brothers and family, I am sorry to hear that your family knows the grief of losing a loved one to breast cancer.

Giving your daughter a middle name that honors your Aunt is a wonderful way to preserve your memories of her and show respect.

Ann is such a lovely name!

  4. Rebel Ross says:

Nate, thanks for sharing about Ann. I’m sorry for your loss. My aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and by the grace of God she was healed when the doctors almost wouldn’t even perform the double-mastectomy because they thought it would just kill her faster. Why God heals some people and allows others to die, I do not fully know. In any regard, God bless Ann Summers and the whole family.

  5. Dave P says:

My mom had a battle with breast cancer 4 years ago, and luckily she’s been cancer free since then. It is a terrible thing though. Although… seeing hard hitting Pittsburgh Steelers Troy Polamalu and James Harrison wearing pink shoes and gloves might be close. ;)

  6. ashley says:

wow, you’ve done a great job with this site. I’m supper excited to support Mitt Romney in his future endeavors, and am so glad that I found this site to keep me updated.

On a different note, I am sorry to hear about your familial experience with cancer. My handicapped child’s physical therapist is a one year survivor this month. It’s such a financially, emotionally, and physically exhuasting disease process; my thoughts are with all the survivors and current battlers.

  7. Aaronius says:

@ashley Thank you for dropping by. We’ve had this site running for just over a year and hope to keep it going until Romney is in the whitehouse. Please let your friends know we exist and come back often!

    Mitt ’12!

  8. Chris Summers says:

My mom was a great mom and I miss her………. She set the bar for me and I try to live like she did.

  9. April says:

I love you Mom and miss you so much everyday!

  10. Sandra Charry says:

Ann Summer was a great woman I had the opportunity to work with her and share great moments. Love you Ann, Love you guys

Oct 28, 2010 – The first Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Israel occurred today. Israelis, Palestinians, Muslims, Jews, and Christians walked together through Jerusalem’s old city streets to raise research funds to help eradicate the deadly disease of breast cancer:
