Obamacare Victory in the Air? Get on the Phones!

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced yesterday (March 12th) that final passage of sweeping health care legislation is now just a very few days away.
Obama smells victory in the air…
President Barack Obama is delaying his trip to Indonesia and Australia by three days in hopes of finalizing a health care deal — and will scrap plans to take along first lady Michelle Obama and his two daughters, according to senior administration officials.
On Thursday, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs brushed aside suggestions that the president planned to postpone or cancel the long-planned trip to his childhood home in Indonesia, even as Hill Democrats groused that the excursion came at the precise time he demanded they finalize a deal.
Instead of leaving next Thursday, March 18 — the deadline he imposed on Congress — Obama will take off on Sunday, March 21, officials said, shortening his itinerary to omit all sidetrips not deemed official business.
On Thursday, both Gibbs and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the House was close to finalizing a strategy for pushing a previously passed Senate bill through the lower chamber, but that the deal might require a few extra days. By postponing his trip, Obama effectively gives the House some breathing room, preserving the hope that members will be able to depart the Capitol for their Easter break two weeks from today with a deal in their pockets.

UPDATE from RedState 3/15/10:
The Democrats have made it clear that they are all in. They’ve also made it quite clear that even the Constitution will not stand in their way. A fundamental change to our Country and the principles upon which it was founded is their ultimate pot. They don’t care if it causes them unpleasantness in the short term. Socialized medicine gives them permanent power in the long term.
They also know this is their last hand at the table. They know they will likely be swept out in the 2010 elections. They need to do it now. And they will stop at nothing to do so. The more ludicrous it sounds, the more likely it is that they will attempt it. Remember, this is their end game; they know they’ve over-played their hand. They are now left with one last bet. They *know* they are in deep trouble in 2010, regardless.
Pelosi has been bluffing all week about having the votes. Perhaps that is a way to create plausible deniability when they pull a sneaky move; they can then try to deflect it by saying “we had the votes anyway”. We cannot fall for their bluffs. And we must make sure that no one else does either.
Melt the phones. Call the Democrats in red districts who may care more about their personal re-elections than the ideological pot. Call Republicans and force them to realize that the Democrats are “all in” and to stop with the dangerous “bi-partisanship” and being polite stuff.
The time for polite is over. We must be on guard for any possibility and the GOP must have the fortitude and the spine to stop each one.
Vigilance is what is needed now.

“Once we pass it”…….IF you pass it, we will immediately start the process that will lead to it’s repeal!
I just tried Dina Titus’s number here in Nevada and her box is full.
Thanks for trying, Makeli.
When her staff is back at work tomorrow, let’s hope the box gets emptied. Then, we can fill it up again!
Linsdey Graham defends MA health care.
(The Hill.com): http://bit.ly/9Z72E1
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) was not happy with David Axelrod’s dismissal of Republican healthcare arguments this morning, calling it “crap.”
There are some differnces, but unforunately a lot of similarities as well. As a result, Axelrod and the rest will continue this line of attack…especially if Mitt wins the Republican nomination. Mitt and his staff know this as well as anyone. They need to refine their message Re: MassCare soon…otherwise, the #1 issue will be off the table.
I really like http://rightosphere.com/blog.php?user=Thunder&blogentry_id=639 which explains in an easy to understand format some of the main differences between what Mitt proposed in Massachusetts, what the democratic legislature did to it, and what the current Obamacare proposal is.
I’d like to see the original proposal… without the ‘easy to understand’ version. I have no problem comprehending the ‘big words’. I’m way past tired of this whole thing. People see two sides here. When will we wake up and realize this is not a republican issue.. not a democrat issue.. not a black issue , or a white issue. This is about healthcare for all people. This is an AMERICAN issue.
I’m currently laid off, seeking work, and no health coverage. I have some serious health issues.. related to heart and blood pressure. I need to see a doctor regularly and the medicine is anything but cheap. I’ve paid taxes all of my life.. since I was 16, and I’m now nearly 50… so I deserve healthcare benefits. I’m sure my tax dollars have helped someone you know and love.. at sometime of another. I should sit here and die because you politicians can’t give even an inch for the betterment of the entire country? I know I’m not the only one in this situation. I don’t qualify for medicaid.. I have to have children under 18 to qualify for that. I’m too young for medicare. So plz tell me.. where do people like me fit into this? My age, or if I have young children should not stop me from receiving decent healthcare.
Also.. thanks for the phone number listing.. I’ll be calling tomorrow, 8am sharp.. for my own reasons.
Every should give Congressman Standford Bishop a call, another dem that is a swing vote.

Finally got through to Dina Titus’s office.
Great work, Jayde….thank you….This is so shameful…..just the worst they could do….This country does not want this bill…nor can we afford this….
@Christina
It is illegal for a hospital emergency room to turn a patient away because of their inability to pay. So until you get a job you can go get the healthcare. We have 11 kids between the two of us. My husband works Crazy hard to provide for us. Why the hell should we be expected to pay more to support even more people? We are taxed to death to help pay for welfare as it is.
This country will provide a free education to the poor (you included) in the form of grants. Or you can get student loans. Then you can get a job that has insurance.
There is no excuse for anyone to say it is unfair. There are things in place right now that people can use to better themselves and become self sufficient without expecting me to carry their load also!
Also, we pay our bills, we don’t buy a car unless we can afford it. That means no car payments. If we can’t afford to pay for a trip, some clothes, some fun things at the mall, we don’t buy it. We don’t use credit cards to pay for stuff. Ya know cause if we don’t have the money…we can’t afford it!
So why does our Government think it’s OK to spend so recklessly when we can’t afford it? Now my kids generation will be paying the price! It is stealing their future. We simply cannot continue to spend and spend and spend without serious consequenses to our country!!!
@Lauri
I agree with a lot of what you’re saying. I am also like you.. I don’t buy unless I need to. I paid off and got rid of my credit cards many years ago. I surely have never lived beyond my means. Actually.. for most of my life I’ve been deemed the family tight wad. lol I’ve not always been in this situation, so if my previous post made it seem like I’m lacking an education, or college degree.. then I apologize for doing so. I never said anything was unfair… and I realize the dire straits that our country is in. I was speaking of the situation I’m in now specifically.
I think many Americans have lost sight of what our country was built on. Our country was built by compromise, helping each other.. and mostly by the sweat of immigrants backs, including everyone from Chinese, Irish, African American slaves, Polish, Italians.. the list is endless. My point being, we didn’t do it alone. These were all trying times for our country.. but we got through them by thinking beyond ourselves, and looking out for our fellow Americans. I remember hearing stories told by my grandparents about how neighbors would band together to help a family get through hard times. When is the last time TRULY… anyone has seen such random acts of kindness on a regular basis?
Sure, there are people who will abuse the system.. but whose fault is that really? The people who do it, or the system being so inept.. and the people/govt officials who allow it to continue? I personally feel anyone who applies for govt assistance whether it be food stamps, or check.. should be required to take a drug test. There are many ways to work on fixing this problem… or at least cut it down drastically. The immigration system needs a total over-haul fix also.
I do know that the emergency room can not turn me away if I go there. But wouldn’t a simple 45 dollar doctor visit be much more cost efficient? I don’t want hospital emergency room bills following me around until I die. I was even in the military for 5 years.. but since I didn’t retire.. I of course do not receive any health care benefits. Also, I’m sure you’ve heard of the pre-employment physical.. and release of all medical records before being carried by insurance on a new job. Whether they admit it or not.. there IS and always will be discrimination towards people with serious health issues trying to get a job with any type of decent healthcare.
I do feel for your struggle Lauri.. 11 kids!! wow! I’m glad that your family is able to manage in these hard times. I’m sure you feel very fortunate that your husband is able to make enough to provide for all of you. I never thought I’d be laid off and be in this situation.. but I always have tried to see things from other people’s shoes. I try not to judge people, because I, myself don’t like being judged, or put into a category of ‘them’. I just wish people took a little more time to feel other people’s struggles, instead of just sticking them all into one large bunch of needy people. As things are now.. it’s almost like a group of pitch fork and torch bearing vigilantes are running amok spreading hate and civil unrest around the country. It’s not even humane. It’s scary, to be totally honest. Even IF I were a republican I wouldn’t partake in this type of behavior… it’s reckless and childish. It just makes the entire group look like a bunch or nay saying haters. I really don’t know what people were expecting. It took Bush 8 years to run our great country into the ground after filling his pockets with petro tax money.. and running our debt so high by putting us into a war we had no business in. Even Colin Powell backed out on Bush… and he is a republican and pro military. When he left, I knew it could get nothing but worse, and it did. I applaud anyone trying to help our citizens, and our country. I’d like to see anyone attempt to mend this horrendous, gigantic hole we’re in. I applaud Obama.. a standing ovation for trying, amongst the greatest adversities that any president has ever come across. The american public needs to find a way to compromise.. and really try to understand the plight of the other person. We have lost sight of what is truly important here.. and it’s really sad.
